And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie s riveting novel, And Then There Were None, is one that has suspense all the way to
the very end. Eight strangers are invited to Indian Island, off the English coast. Their names are Dr.
Armstrong, Vera Claythorne, Philip Lombard, William Blore, Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Tony
Marston, and Judge Wargrave. All think they are meeting someone different for different reasons.
When they arrive on the island though, they are greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, who are servants for
the host; the host is someone with the name Mr. Owen. The group is told that Mr. Owen will not arrive
until the next day. That evening that they arrive there is a recording played at dinner that accuses each
one of them of committing murder. While discussing this, they come to realize that no one actually
knows who Mr. Owen is.
While the guests discuss what they do for a living, the first victim of this ongoing crime is taken. Tony
Marston chokes on poisoned whiskey which leads to his death. All of the guests come to the
agreement that it must be suicide. As all the guests then go to bed, Mr. Rogers goes into the dining
room and is puzzled to find that one of Ten Little Indian figurines is missing. Getting ready for bed
Vera Claythorne notices the similarity between the death of Marston and the first verse of a nursery
rhyme, Ten Little Indians, that hangs in each bedroom of the house.
The next morning Mrs. Rogers is found dead, but the cause of death is unclear. Meanwhile,

My View Of My Dream House
Generally, I revere everything in life, it illustrates a clear explanation of whom I want to become in the
future. The grade 10 students were introduced to the myp personal project and with this in mind, I had
many vital ideas executed but confused to choose a product that contributes to my interests. I love
learning and discovering new things. After many cups of coffee, I obtained an idea or goal to create a
three dimensional foam architectural model of my dream house. My family built our own house in
India last year and on viewing the stages of building a house became one of my interest. I always
wondered how the workers/builders managed to get the house in perfect shape as the engineer
contemplated. For instance,

His creation inspired many others in the architectural field and has become one of the seven wonders
of the world. My product should impress others and induce them in creating their own dream house
model. I have chosen to focus on the global context of orientation in space and time. My areas of
exploration will be on Homes and Journey . My project specifically deals with the design and
construction of a house in this modern world. I intend to focus on the engineer and construction
workers collaboration towards the completion of a perfect house. In this case, I will be both the
engineer and construction worker as I am going to design my floor plan and transform it into a three
dimensional figure. Based on my global context my question of inquiry is Why humans should know
how to manipulate architectural designs and common construction procedure . To start out with this
personal project I have decided to conquer this quote for my success in this model, If you focus on
design, you can call yourself a designer. If you focus on the implementation of your design, you can
call yourself an architect .(Cameron Sinclair, Architecture for Humanity)
Before I begin my construction work, I need to know basic steps of an architectural model building.
So I Came up with some research questions that would help me throughout this project.

Compare And Contrast Matrice And Where To Find Them By...
Matrices and Where to Find Them Over the ages there have been many struggles in the effort to
describe the universe and its appearance. Seeing is believing and perception is reality are both sayings
that can be found in almost any household, but how much truth can be attributed to these words in
their many variations? The nature of reality has been a controversy for a great many years. Rene
Descartes was the first philosopher to offer the explanation that the world people perceive is simply an
illusion which the called Dream Theory . While Descartes was essential in the development of Dream
Theory, he was unable to address several major flaws in his work. It was only when Nick Bostrom
wrote his paper on simulation theory that these flaws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his work, Bostrom states that every species must fall into one of three categories, each of which
state a different reality and level of technology for that people. The first scenario states that the
civilization in question is not advanced enough to create the technology required to produce a
simulation of an identical nature to the real world. It also states that they will most likely go extinct
before they reach this level of sophistication. The second scenario states that the civilization does have
the ability to produce the technology necessary to produce and maintain a simulation of such a high
level of detail but has no desire to. The third and last scenario is that most likely the civilization in
question already exists in a simulation. In simulation theory, the three scenarios follow a chronological
order in which the disapproval of the previous claim leads to the validation of the next and vice versa.
For example, if the civilization in question is too advanced to fall in the first scenario, then they fall
into the second. If they fulfill the qualities of the second scenario then they would not fulfill the
qualities of the third and the society

Essay on Shell Nigeria
Shell Nigeria
In 1958 the Royal Dutch/Shell Group started drilling for, transporting and refining oil in Nigeria.
Nigeria s large supply of high quality crude oil helped Shell climb to the top, by 1994 Shell made
more money than other company in the world. Everything changed for
Shell in 1996 when the world became aware of their unethical business practices in
Nigeria. Shell had raped the environment, violated human rights of the Nigerian people and
manipulated local governments for profit.

The number of oil spills in the country is outrageously high. An independent record of the spills
reported that the company spilled 7.4 million liters of oil in 27 separate incidents from 1982 to 1992.
This totals around 40% of the total number of Shell s oil spills worldwide in that time period. Shell
uses sabotage as a tactic so as not to take the blame for the spills. However, records indicate that only
11% of the spills between 1976 and 1990 can be attributed to actual sabotage attacks.
Gas flaring is also a significant problem in Nigeria. As much as 76% of the natural gas pumped up
with crude oil in Nigeria is burned off compared to 0.6% in the United
States. The gas flares emit 34 million tons of carbon dioxide and 12 million tons of methane, making
petroleum operations in Nigeria one of the world s largest contributors to global warming. Flaring has
contributed to the death of plants and wildlife, the pollution of air and water and it has left some
residence with hearing problems and respiratory diseases. Social and Political Issues
Shell s presence in Nigeria has also had enormous social consequences, particularly in the Niger Delta
region. The people in this region are dissatisfied for many reasons with Shell s presence on their land.

Persuasive Essay On The Power Of Privacy
Technology and the Internet have evolved over the years to the point where it is used daily by millions
of people. As a result, people s privacy are more susceptible to invasion than ever before. Most people
had no reason to question their privacy until the Snowden revelations of 2013 or the celebrity photo
leak in 2014. However, as demonstrated through the documentary The Power of Privacy by the
Guardian, it is very easy to have your personal information stolen or discovered by others. As
technology continues to advance, Our attitudes and the law, haven t caught up yet (The Guardian
1:53). People are not fully aware of their digital footprint or it s effects on their privacy and need to be
educated on how to protect their digital information. This documentary effectively displays the
importance of protecting digital privacy through demonstrating how easy it is to stalk people, lose
control of personal information and even have devices hacked. Individuals need to learn how to
protect their privacy in the online world in order to prevent such actions against them.
As the Internet has grown to become a popular tool, it has also left people s information available to
the world such as their address, email or telephone number. Most people are aware of the risks
involved with posting online and often implement privacy features on social media allowing only
friends and followers to see their information. However, these actions are not enough. An analysis by

The Detroit Lions And Chicago Lions
The Detroit Lions started the 2016/2017 season on September 11th, with a close win over the
Indianapolis Colts. This game was a major back and forth battle that could ve easily been in favor of
the Indianapolis Colts but instead went to the Detroit Lions with the score of 39 to 35. This game for
sure was a great way to start the season for the Detroit Lions and also showed the potential that they
have going into the season and because of that it raises many questions of how the Detroit Lions are
going to do in the upcoming season. In this essay I will explore the claim that the author uses ethos,
logos, and pathos to express to the audience that years after the great legend Barry Sanders (who
played for the Detroit Lions from 1989 till 1998) the Detroit Lions may once again be a power house
in the run game again. I argue the fact that it is a little too early to make a speculation like that about
the season but only time will tell as the seasons continues.
Now the article, Years after Barry, the Detroit Lions run game pretty sweet again? written by Dave
Birkett starts out by recapping on the Lions vs. Colts game. He then explains throughout the article
about how the Detroit Lions may once again have a strong running force after years of being the worst
when it comes to the run game. He uses stats and also statements from coaches, and players to give the
reader an insight on where he s coming from.
The author of the article, Dave Birkett has an outstanding record

The Internet Is A Threat Vector For All Sizes Of...
The Internet is a threat vector for all sizes of organizations, whether private or public. New
technologies are constantly being introduced in order to keep pace with industry trends and with these
new technologies come new vulnerabilities. Many of these vulnerabilities among software will be
discovered in the testing phases or early days of release, however, there are some vulnerabilities that
will remain unknown to the masses. These unknown vulnerabilities, once discovered, become the
pathway for a zero day exploits (Zetter, 2015). The term zero day does not have a specific definition
but it is often referred to as the amount of time that the IT community has to the newly implemented
attack (Kliarsky, 2011). Zero day exploits are used to open secret doors into user systems and since
they are unknown to antivirus companies as well they may go undetected for years, and are often
times discovered by accident (Zetter, 2015). Some of the most recent and highly publicized attacks
that used zero day threats as essential elements to the attacks are APT, Aurora, Night Dragon, and
probably the most widely known to the general public is Stuxnet (Kliarsky, 2011). Private use of zero
day exploits The discovery, acquiring, and selling of zero day exploits can be a highly profitable
business for private companies. For example in September 2015, a security startup firm Zerodium
announced that they would pay $1 million to anyone that could develop a jailbreak for the iPhone.

Satire In Blessed Are The Poor, By Mark Twain
Mark Twain s writing gives the impression that he follows an unexplored and uncharted path. While
writing for newspapers, he exposed himself as an inventor and he actually patented three inventions.
While he visited places to deliver his lectures he was celebrated for his fine and exceptional sense of
humour. At times his speeches and writings bear the mark of satire about the mentality and behaviour
of people in the United States of America. Satire is a tool for making remarks about absurdities of the
society is a casual and mocking way.
Mark Twain is known for several distinct stylistic traits. His writings are noted for its outstanding and

He thinks the Sunday schools curb the liberty of little boys and girls. According to him religion should
not be taught with a compelling attitude. Mark Twain mocks at the typical and monotonous church

religious sentiments vanishes off and the faith in God gets minimized. When the church service is

My Experience At Connecticut College
When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain point on the floor, it s to enjoy each step along
the way. (Wayne Dwyer) There is no description or analogy more accurate to describe my experience
both watching and performing dance this past semester at Connecticut College. As a freshman, it was
difficult to move forward with dance in a new environment since I have had the same dance
experience for 15 years. I found myself equating movements and steps to styles more known to me; I
was searching for comfort among the abundance of unfamiliarity. The challenge was to embrace
modern dancing for everything it entailed. Through watching both professional dancers and other
students, as well as improving my personal technique, I certainly feel that I have found a new
appreciation for dance. Of all the dance performances this semester, my favorite was the Department
Concert. Even though all of the artists were extraordinary to watch, I was able to connect with the
dancers most during the Department Concert. Watching Connecticut College students perform gave
me a different feeling than the other shows. I could relate to the performers better because I have had
conversations with them outside of dance and they have been there as mentors to me and the other
freshmen. This feeling of inclusion was only possible because of the atmosphere of the department;
everyone, regardless of class year, is genuinely welcomed. I also believe that seeing students perform

Bible Vs Christian New Testament
Before I read this chapter I had absolutely no idea that the Jewish religion had their own bible. The
main differences that I came across after reading and doing research are the number of books, the
arrangement of the books, the primary language that the Bibles are read or studied in, the content of
the two Bibles, and the importance that is given to the oral and the written traditions in making of the
two holy books. The word Bible comes from the Greek word biblia which means books and both
religions call their religious scripture Bible (Frigge 1). Judaism dates back to the 2nd century BCE and
the Jewish Bible is called Tanakh. It consists of 24 books which are in Hebrew and Armanic (Hayes

Benefits Of Cloning In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Cloning and the creation of the monster in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein sounds promising, however,
cloning is highly irresponsible to pursue. Dolly the sheep had a successful cloning but it brought many
questions to the scientists. Cloning may have its benefits, but the outcome may vary. Cloning will
impact the world deeply and cause a tension among the humans. Allowing to clone a human being is
referred to as playing God. It is reasonable to decline the cloning of humans due to the fact it is a
threat to human evolution, high failure rates and the possible life issues that may occur. The cloning of
humans have its advantages, but it is a threat to human evolution. It would decrease the immunity of
human beings to fight off diseases (Putatunda

Polonius Traits
Polonius is an overly devoted character that is portrayed to be more concerned with the preservation

a man bred in courts, exercised in business, stored with observation, confident in his knowledge,
proud of his eloquence, all declining into dotage (Shakespeare s char... 1), and presents no redeeming
quality s In Act 1, scene 3, Polonius orders Laertes and Ophelia, to follow his instructions regarding
proper behavior. He states Give thy thoughts no tongue, Nor any unproportioned thought of this act.

( 2.2.120 ), Claudius replies As of a man faithful and honorable ( 2.2.120). Because of this, Polonius
appears to be relatively vain, and his arrogance becomes greatly pronounced. When questioned upon
his knowledge he even goes as far as to use his own daughter, Ophelia, to gain information on Hamlet
to aid himself and Claudius. These negative manipulative traits are again exemplified as he urges
Gertrude to find out about Hamlets motives. He again masks his instructions as advice he states; Tell
him his pranks have been to broad to bear with and that you grace hath screen d and stood between
heat and him (3.4.5). Polonius s motives for favoring the king so greatly, are not textually funded
because the play does not state much about Polonius s history. Although, It could be inferred that
Polonius had been the counselor of Old Hamlet, which would suggest a motive for Hamlets hostility.
But a more ideal argument is that Polonius had been a part Of Claudius s court prior to Old Hamlets
death. There is support for the nation of royals for having their own Courts, their own Courtiers and
followers ( Bernice W. Kliman 1 ). Polonius in fact, states that he had long been Claudius s counselor
Hath there been such a time, I would fain know that, that I have positively said, tis so, When it proved
otherwise? ( 2.2.150 ). If these arrangements here commonly known, it is arguable that Polonius could
have been among the counselors that advised Claudius to take the throne. (Kliman 1) Giving Hamlet

War Of Glory And Fame Essay
It has been said time and time again that men go to war for glory and fame, yet the First World War
began a little differently. This war began with an assassination that then led countries across the globe
to become involved in a revenge war. Each country that entered the war after Austria Hungary s initial
declaration on Serbia was tied to a treaty. These treaties then lead to each country turning to another
ally for more men, for more power and more weaponry. Then we see each country being able to go
after the neutral countries, and the neutral countries would side with whomever could give them the
best offer. With all this intelligence and military mindedness comes new technology and new weapons,
each country trying out do another. Each country was out for themselves. Germany hoping to gain
more power and trade ports like India, Russia wanting to take out Germany and Austria to have more
control over the Balkans, France in repelling Germany and settle and old score with taking land, and
Britain hoped to retain naval supremacy and keep its African colonies. Do to the global aspect of the
war and the huge numbers then brought in we saw nations and colonies crumbled and torn apart,
thousands of lives lost, for a war no one saw coming and that no one thought would have global reach.
I believe that because of all this The Great War should really be called The Great Treaty War, because
the treaties are truly what pulled countries on a global scale to enter the war. When we

Appeals In Advertising
Newspapers, Magazines, Television, Online... advertising is everywhere. Within the myriad of
advertisements displayed in front of viewers every day, there are appeals. Society neglects and
overlooks these marketing strategies that toy with their minds, resulting in skyrocketing purchases
after the release of an advertisement. In Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals, Jib Fowles identifies the
appeals he believes are implemented in advertisements. These appeals include sexual innuendos,
powerful images, or comforting displays which draw the audience into the desired product. After
analyzing the ads within the Vogue January 2018 edition, an extremely popular fashion and lifestyle
magazine, the demographics can be determined as a market with expensive taste. The graphics are
extremely feminine and contain Fowles s previously mentioned appeals, like the need for prominence.
Although not all of the fifteen appeals apply to these advertisements, Fowles s list is still valid and
does not need revisions as the readership of Vogue magazine is just a small sample of the population.
Through the appeals of each advertisement, this clear readership is developed, rather than using all of
the Fowles s appeals and not addressing the correct audience. When initially looking at Vogue, one
would simply see beautiful women and lots of expensive products. However, referring to Fowles s
article, the advertisements in the magazine display appeals directed at women so they will be drawn

Stereotypes In Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is such an inspiring film. This movie shows the how the stereotypical gender roles
should be. Men should be comprehensive, and they should support women just like Steve did
whenever Diana wanted to go into the battle field. Where Diana comes from all women are viewed as
strong independent girls. As they are growing up they started training, so they became really strong.
Diana was very eager to learn how to fight. Which that is how women should be raised. Instead
women are expected to dress in a feminine way and be sympathetic. I m not saying women shouldn t
be like that but if you make a female feel like she can accomplish anything, that ll be better for them.

was her main goal. Whenever they were in the meeting and no one could understand Dr. Poison s

Predictably Irrational By Dan Ariely
I have always been fascinated by the inner workings of the mind. Why we act the way we do in certain
situations and why we act irrationally. Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely attempts to explore and
answer these questions. He covers irrationality from a variety of topics such as human relationships
and market dynamics, but the implications are valid in any field that requires decision making. Two
topics that Ariely covers in the book are: the zero price effect and the endowment effect. With each of
these topics, Ariely challenges the reader to rethink their current decision making process and to step
outside the irrational mind of the consumer. Dan Ariely states:

From the consumer s perspective, though, there is a huge difference between cheap and free. Give a
product away and it can go viral. Charge a single cent for it and you re in an entirely different
business, one of clawing and scratching for every customer. The psychology of free is powerful
indeed, as any marketer will tell you (Anderson, 2008). Ariely is aware of the power of free and offers
suggestions to policy makers. For example, governments attempt to persuade the population to receive
regular health checks; in some cases running large advertising campaigns and reducing the price of the
health check. Ariely suggests that instead of spending money on campaigns around creating
awareness, put the money towards making the health check free (Ariely, 2008). While this may not
apply to a country with free health care, the same general takeaway is still relevant: free is an
emotional button that can change a rational consumer into an irrational

Immanuel Kant Against Lying
Lying, everybody does it but is it ever really okay? The truth is that lying is never okay as it always
harms others or even yourself. There are others who also believe in honest and have evidence to
support their claims such as Immanuel Kant and Brad Blanton. They have both committed to honesty
and have good reasoning to back up honesty instead of lying.
In Article 2 we learn about a German philosopher named Immanuel Kant. He believes that lying
cannot be justified in any circumstance. He states that a lie, even if it does not wrong any particular
individual, it always harms mankind individually. His statement talks about how a lie will always
harm someone no matter how big or small the lie is and it won t matter whether it was your intention
to harm or not. He also talks about how lying harms the liar by destroying his human dignity and
making him more worthless than a small thing. This statement alone shows how damaging lying can
be especially if you care about your dignity and self worth. His evidence clearly supports honesty and
why lying just can t be justified. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He defines Radical Honesty as simply being completely honest with someone and the only thing
radical about it is that no matter the situation, be it good or bad , you would still have to be completely

others he supports his claim by saying it s likely you ll end up losing people whom you don t want
around you anyway. His thoughts make sense as honesty with others is usually the foundation for trust

My Hybrid Classroom Management Plan
My hybrid classroom management plan that combines the Canter and Canter Assertive discipline style
and Dreikur s Democratic Teaching and Management procedures allows me to incorporate the
students opinions and ideas into the classroom rules and procedures. This allows for a sense of
community and shared responsibility between both myself and the students to insure that the rules are
being met. By allowing the student to have a say in how the classroom will run day to day makes them
feel like they have a place and a value in the classroom. It is also important that I foster a sense of
fairness by upholding the agreed upon rules without any bias so that the student know what to expect
when rules and procedures are either followed or not. This helps the students feel supported in the
classroom as well as nurtures a safe and inclusive learning environment. Throughout the last two field
experiences my favorite part has been getting to know each of the students in the classrooms. By the
end of the semester it became very hard to leave them because I had gotten attached and want to
continue to watch them grow. I have a feeling that having my own set of students that I will work with
every day over the course of a year will make it even hard to let go. I love just talking with my
students on a daily basis. This is something I will start from day one of a new school year. I will start
the school year off with focusing on just learning about the students in my care by playing

The Democratic National Party vs. the Republican National...
Since the beginning of American politics, we have lived in a two party political system. These two
parties play a very important role in our government, they are a source of ideas for public policy, and
they legally oppose each other (class citation), forcing compromises of ideas which are beneficial to
the people of the United States of America. Though these two parties generally always oppose each
other on the issues, some people believe that there are not significant differences between the
Democratic National Party and the Republican National Party. Despite similarities in views on foreign
policy, the Democratic National Party and the Republican National Party are different based on their

The Republicans called for the choice of a public, private, or religious school be given to the parent.
They would do this with the G.I. Bill for children, giving middle to low income households $1000 to
choose the private, public, or religious school of their choice ( Second Presidential Debate, 1992 ).
The Democratic Party called for a balanced budget by the year 2002 in the 1996 presidential election,
and proposed a method of balancing the budget that would secure Medicare, Medicaid, and protect
Social Security ( Draft Democratic National Platform 42).. Presidential candidate Bob Dole, on the
other hand, proposed a constitutional amendment which would require the budget to be balanced (
Second 1996 Presidential Debate ). This constitutional amendment, according to Dole in the second
`96 debate, would allow a broad range of tax cuts for Americans.
Taxes were another issue on which the Democrats and Republicans differed. Dole stated in the first
1996 presidential debate that the balanced budget amendment to the Constitution would allow tax cuts
for Americans. When describing his tax proposal, Dole said, It s a tax cut, cutting capitol gains 50
percent so you can go out and create more jobs and opportunities. It s estate tax relief. It s a $500 per

Mississippi River Symbolism Essay
Symbolism, by definition is the use of symbols to represent ideas and qualities. Arguably one of the
most powerful literary techniques, symbolism aids to create a sense of understanding and awakens a
forthright emotion in the mind of the reader. The adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the novel I have
chosen to read the use of symbolism is made common by the author, Mark Twain. Though there is
more than one, the most critical and influential symbolism is the Mississippi river. Opposing the river
is the pendulum. In the short story, the pit and the pendulum, a horror fiction by Edgar Allen Poe, the
pendulum plays a significant part and is a key element of its plot. Contrasting the symbolisms of these
classic literature works will illuminate their respective strengths and weaknesses. ... Show more

It is their best choice of transportation as it helps them be unobtrusive. The river also protects them as
there is a reward of $300 for Jim, the slave who used to work for the widow. Rivers are generally
considered to be placid and to have a sense of tranquility. These characteristics, in a figurative aspect
are similar to that of hope. In Greek mythology hope was the last thing that came out of Pandora s
Box, the one thing that would help mankind cope with all the evil in the world. Likewise the
Mississippi river is a symbol of hope that helps Huck and Jim on their onerous and bizarre adventure.
Huck is hoping he will escape his abusive father, the widow s efforts to sivilize him, but most
importantly he seeks an adventure made apparent with the title itself. For Jim it is hope, that one day
he will free his family from slavery that pushes him on. Both Jim and Huck knowingly or
unknowingly, depend on the river. The bottom line is that Twain uses the Mississippi river to
symbolize the great hope that resides in the main characters, thus elevating the reader s outlook

The Pros And Cons Of Legal Rules
Legal rules are ethical rules or norms, for every legal pattern of conduct can be expressed in a
proposition with the predicate ought to be . At the same time legal patterns of conduct are supported
by centralized power and its coordinating activity, and not merely by the mutual social interaction
which produces and reinforces the ethical group conviction[ Timasheff, 1939, p. 15]. Timasheff based
his conception of law as the union of ethics and power on four propositions: 1) legal rules are
recognized by group members; 2) legal rules are obeyed by group members; 3) legal rules are
recognized by the members of active power centers; and 4) legal rules are supported by the members
of active power centers[ Timasheff, 248]. Timaheff s second and ... Show more content on

Timasheff noted that modern jurists often deny the proposition that legal rules are obeyed. They assert
that legal rules are not commands, but directions for proper conduct. Timasheff rejected this assertion
on the ground that if legal rules are merely directions, they are indistinguishable from friendly advice.
The only way to make this important distinction, Timasheff argued, is by reference to power
structures: legal rules always express dominance and therefore, they are commands [ Timasheff 253].
Timasheff identified three specific motivations for obeying legal rules: the direct imperative
motivation, the direct attributive motivation, and the indirect motivation[ Timasheff 253]. For our
purposes here, the first is the most pertinent. Timasheff contended that the roots, instruments and
forms of the direct imperative motivation to obey the law are exactly the same as the roots,
instruments and forms of obedience within power structures, i.e., dominance, submission, unequal
social interaction and power relationships[Timasheff,

Matta Ballesteros Propaganda
Matta Ballesteros essentially served as a middleman between Mexico s Guadalajara cartel and the
Colombian cartels. He had been arrested as early as 1970 in the U.S. with 26 kilos of cocaine, but
escaped prison within a year. He also had many connections with the Honduran military and helped
finance a different unofficial cocaine coup. That one took place in Honduras in 1978 and the CIA
supported the military coup because the Honduran dictator, General Paz Garcia, was a military ally.
Clearly the U.S. government prioritized national security goals over drug trafficking. Even the timing
of Matta Ballesteros s capture was suspect. Ioan Grillo, author of El Narco, noted how the U.S.
government eventually used extreme and illegal means to capture Matta Ballesteros, but the raid didn t

In our system, several characteristics should be clarified in the beginning:

Essay On Insanity Defense
The insanity defense is the most controversial criminal defense that is used in courts (The Insanity).
Ironically, it is the defense that is used the least. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara
University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half
the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media
which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the
exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a
guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American
Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of
insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the
insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the
mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing
this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it.
The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the
mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have
committed a crime (Martin). The basis for insanity was introduced when Daniel M Naghten attempted

Questions On Health Care Industry

UNIVERSITY 1) List factors under the control of healthcare managers that contribute to the decrease
in the number of people applying to health professions schools. Describe the steps that healthcare
organizations can take to improve this situation. Health care industry is a huge growing industry, the
percentage of people aging in America is increasing, According to The New York Times In 2010, there
were 40 million people age 65 and over in the United States, accounting for 13 percent of the total
population. The older population in 2030 is projected to be twice as large as in 2000, growing from 35
million to 72 million and representing nearly 20 percent of the total U.S. population. The demand for
medical care is expected to increase in the near future, so in order to meet this demand there is need
for more people to enter into the field of healthcare. But, the number of people applying to health
professional schools is decreasing due to a number of reasons 1) Increasing cost of education The
tuition fees and cost of education is increasing making it difficult for middle class and poor people to
get into the healthcare field. According to a survey over the past 20 years, public medical school
tuitions have increased by 312 percent. 2) Continuous and life long learning Unlike other professions

Senior Project Basketball is more than just a sport Dwayne Wade was born January 17, 1982 in
Chicago, Illinois. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most people
don t know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA. When
Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother. Then
because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is where
Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a star on
his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play for his
first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn t play he still practiced
with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the NBA draft
and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All star and still is an all star

Appalachian Mountains And Appalachians
Appalachians
The Appalachian Mountains region is roughly 360,000 km squared, taking up about 3.6 percent of
Canada s land surface. This region locates itself on the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova
Scotia, New Brunswick, and a bit of Quebec, with Moncton and Halifax as some of its major
cities. The rocks, most of which are mostly sedimentary, were changed drastically when Europe and
North America collided, causing its geography to be uneven, with many jagged peaks. Forestry,
agriculture, fishing, tourism, coal mining, logging, and manufacturing are their main industries.Their
overall population lands at a bit more than 25 million. Some interesting facts are that they have the
oldest mountains and the richest fishing.
Canadian Shield Despite covering 5 million km squared of land (over 50 percent) it does not have
ideal soil for crops while having the richest area for mining. The Canadian Shield occupies most of
Quebec, much of Ontario, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories and a small portion
of Alberta. Some of the jobs in this area of only 7 million are lumbering, mining, and manufacturing.
Their land contains mostly igneous and metamorphic rock plus many minerals (gold, nickel, lead,
copper, zinc,). When the tectonic plates collided the mountains, later eroded to flatland or rounded
hills. Its geography also contains rivers and lakes from glaciers. Some of their largest cities are
Montreal and Kugluktuk.

Robert K. Merton s The Rich Get Richer And The Poor Get...
Matthew effect has different meaning in each field. For example, in sociology is the where the rich get
richer and the poor get poorer. Robert K. Merton states in his book Social Theory and Social Structure
In both its original and typical usage it is meant metaphorically to refer to issues of fame or status but
it may also be used literally to refer to cumulative advantage of economic capital (Merton, 7) Matthew
effect or the story of success can be the answer of same question that many people might have. Why
some people are more successful than others? The answer couldn t be just their intelligence or hard
working, as Malcolm Gladwell explains in his book. There would be many more reasons to make a
person successful. If we want to understand that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also
we need to spend more time and research about everything around him such as culture, family, and
their habit. One of Gladwell mention in his book is about the hockey players. The players don t have
same situation and opportunities to be chosen in the team. It is hard to imagine the difference of the
age for some months will effect on the young student chance to be elected on the team. As well
Barnsley in Outliers argues that these kinds of skewed age distributions exist whenever three things
happen: selection, streaming, and differentiated experience. (Gladwell, 25) However, Gladwell named

Assess Interpretations of Hatshepsut
Assess interpretations of Hatshepsut
The female pharaoh, Hatshepsut, is arguably one of the most influential people of ancient Egypt. For
thousands of years, the workings of Hatshepsut have been subject to multiple interpretations, from
both her time and the modern day. An evaluation of the effectiveness of her reign can be resolved from
the reliability and validity of evidence presented today, both primary and secondary.
In one respect, Hatshepsut is viewed as the female pharaoh who had a particularly unsuccessful reign
that was devoid of any real achievements. Historians writing in the 1970 s and 1980 s often made
sexist and unfounded assumptions about Hatshepsut s rule, including her apparent scheming to take
the throne from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some ancient interpretations of Hatshepsut can also be perceived as negative, such as those of Seti I
and Ramses II who deliberately excluded her from the King list under the presumption that he rule
was a threat to order. Also, Thutmose III s defacement of her monuments is thought to have been done
in the act of re establishing ma at and order, as it was believed that a female ruler ultimately defied
this natural balance and therefore male dominance had to be restored.
Other interpretations deduce Hatshepsut as a highly successful pharaoh whose reign significantly
contributed the prosperity and stability of Egypt at the time. Ineni, for example, was an official under
Hatshepsut who talked highly of her; she settled the affairs of the Two Lands...whose plans are
excellent, she who satisfies the two regions when she speaks . This quote demonstrates that officials
from her context believed that she was an effective and efficient ruler who had the support of the
official and peasant class. Modern day historians such as Callender, Tyldestry and Redford also
present a balanced, more positive view of Hatshepsut as a competent and effective pharaoh who
brought peace and prosperity to Egypt. J. Tyldesley, for example, names Hatshepsut as the woman
who led a stable government, had a successful trading mission, and maintained impressive
architectural advances in her building programs. She emphasises how rather than

Critical Race Theory Definition
Critical Race Theory During the 1970s, in the field of law a group of legal scholars sought to uncover
the influence of race on legal decisions and legislation. This discipline expanded beyond the field of
law into other social spheres. Critical Race theory (CRT) provides a relevant framework for examining
the peristent and pervasive negativity experienced by Blacks. The theory places race at the center of
its analysis of social structure and phenomena. Its origins are in critical legal scholarhsip and
conventional legal principles but where doctrine and policy are the roots of these inquiry types,
context is fundamental within the critical race theory paradigm. Critical Race Theory seeks to
explicate how race influences the social experiences of subordinate groups within a society that makes

inequality and the erosion of many supposed gains resulting from the civil rights movement of the

1. Racism is acknowledged as a permanent fixure of society, and is central to discussions on
differences thereby negating the need to explain that it persists. CRT aims to expose and interrogate

The Minimum Wage
There have been multiple debates on whether or not the minimum wage should be raised. Minimum
wage can produce an impact on everyday life more than most may think. It is not just about more
money in a person s pocket; it can affect the economy in multiple ways. Many people think it would
be a good idea to raise the average minimum wage, but they do not understand or take the time to
think of the disadvantages. The minimum wage is the least amount a worker can be paid at a job, by
federal law. The present minimum wage is set at seven dollars and 25 cents. The wage can be
determined by votes of the public or the average living cost. Before the Fair Labor Standards Act,
corporations were free to choose any pay rate of their choice. This ... Show more content on

Another disadvantage to a rise in pay includes the possibility that some people may lose their
government benefits due to their new annual income, such as food stamps or health insurance.
The loss of federal and state aids could produce a greater hardship on people and their families than
the preexisting minimum wage. For those who have already earned a higher pay due to noticeably
hard work or time spent working for a company, the raise of minimum wage would cause the
experienced workers to demand more. If the company is already struggling to pay the difference of the
raised minimum wage, there will be no option but to either refuse the request of an experienced
worker or fire employees. Even though workers have dreamed of a pay raise for years, it has been
concluded that the money will not be coming very soon. It is expected to be a few years until an
increased minimum wage could be developed (Mcgeehan). This does not include all of America due to
larger cities usually having higher wages. Some states have more of a demand due to the different
living conditions and different prices of products. Smaller towns have been known to produce smaller
prices for average products due to supply and demand. This means the ratio of pay to living expenses
averages out. The outcomes aren t all bad. There are also some good

There were many calendars before the current one we have today. One example was the Iraq calendar.
The Iraq calendar had divided the days into 12 periods. There were also many errors in the making of
calendars, like the Gregorian calendar. Other calendars predicted a lot of things. The Mayan calendar

Dr. Strange Love Conspiracy Theory
I must say that Dr. Strange Love is my favorite movie we have watched thus far.
There are many interesting aspects to this movie. First I found it interesting that the paranoid ultra
nationalist Brigadier General, Who orders the nuclear strike is named Jack D Ripper. When read and
when spoken the name sounds incredibly similar to serial killer Jack the Ripper. I truly don t think this
was coincidental. The movie was filmed at Shepperton Studios near London, Whitechapel , the
neighbor in which the serial killer mostly stalked is also in London. Perhaps this was Kubrick s way of
framing members of the military industrial complex during the Cold War as serial killers. Instead of
brandishing surgical knives, they are detonating nuclear weapons. This theory is furthered by the fact
that President Muffley refers to Ripper as a psychopath and repeatedly uses the term mass murder.
Furthermore, in a scene with Mandrake, Ripper states he denies women his essence. The physical
nature of sexual intercourse and his wariness of it, drives Ripper s irrational impulse to guard the
purity of his bodily fluids against ideological incursion. It seems that Ripper s conspiracy theory is
born of misogyny. This is intriguing because Jack the Ripper exclusively killed women involved in ...

The Technological Advancements Of World War II
William Pollard once said, Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to
think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient tomorrow. Maybe the generals of World War 1
(WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and rifles and
machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the time
of technological innovations and changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I will
write about are machine guns, planes and tanks.
On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they
provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere
between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army defending a
position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as
breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to
do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated that around 20% of the
casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is very high considering all the
possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of WW1
significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all
areas of the world ever since these first guns were used in WW1.

narrator in Dusting believes that her mother had achieved as much as anyone else but that her mother s

Impact Of Television On The Western Europe
The Impact of Television on Democracy in Eastern Europe
After the second World War , a large part of central Europe was controlled by the Soviet Union and
was forced to adapt to the Communism ideology. While the year 1989 was a turning point that some
effective revolution interrupted and the Soviet hegemony was destroyed, the demand for democracy
and freedom was increased and people tried to find their ways to speak out. With the development of
technology, mass media emerged to help address the problem. Among the mass media, radios,
newspapers, and televisions were extremely prominent because of their high speed way of spreading
information and direct expressions of images and sounds. During this period, people tended to believe

The television was used as a transmission platform for people who gained the freedom of words to
express their thoughts. Televisions were involved in politics in the Post Communist Czech Republic.
Before, and during the Communism era, television stations were strictly controlled by the government.
It was impossible for those people who were considered to dissent and fight against the Communism

Havel and Dubcek appeared on the screens. Thousands of people could now hear their voices and
messages at the same time (Hester Reybold 46). In accordance with the institutionally guaranteed
freedom of expression, word and press,

His problems, arose when he entered into Princeton University in 1906. He held strongly to the
philosophy of all play and no work (Miller p4), and he was eventually suspended. This was because he
was caught by the yard master breaking power cables and windows in the University train station. His
suspension was to last only for two weeks but he never returned to campus. Officially he was expelled
from the school for poor academic standing. Eugene moved into a New York apartment with his friend

Findlater who was to become his best friend and bases for the character Jimmy Tomorrow from
Iceman Cometh and was the same character in Tomorrow which was one of O Neil s only short
stories. James would eventually introduce Eugene to Kathleen Jenkins, the daughter of a wealthy New
York business man. Her parents objected to any marriage taking place and so did his. They would

  • 2. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie Agatha Christie s riveting novel, And Then There Were None, is one that has suspense all the way to the very end. Eight strangers are invited to Indian Island, off the English coast. Their names are Dr. Armstrong, Vera Claythorne, Philip Lombard, William Blore, Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Tony Marston, and Judge Wargrave. All think they are meeting someone different for different reasons. When they arrive on the island though, they are greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, who are servants for the host; the host is someone with the name Mr. Owen. The group is told that Mr. Owen will not arrive until the next day. That evening that they arrive there is a recording played at dinner that accuses each one of them of committing murder. While discussing this, they come to realize that no one actually knows who Mr. Owen is. While the guests discuss what they do for a living, the first victim of this ongoing crime is taken. This game for sure was a great way to start the season for the Detroit Lions and also showed the potential that they have going into the season and because of that it raises many questions of how the Detroit Lions are going to do in the upcoming season. New technologies are constantly being introduced in order to keep pace with industry trends and with these new technologies come new vulnerabilities. Many of these vulnerabilities among software will be discovered in the testing phases or early days of release, however, there are some vulnerabilities that will remain unknown to the masses. These unknown vulnerabilities, once discovered, become the pathway for a zero day exploits (Zetter, 2015). The term zero day does not have a specific definition but it is often referred to as the amount of time that the IT community has to the newly implemented attack (Kliarsky, 2011). Zero day exploits are used to open secret doors into user systems and since they are unknown to antivirus companies as well they may go undetected for years, and are often times discovered by accident (Zetter, 2015). (Wayne Dwyer) There is no description or analogy more accurate to describe my experience both watching and performing dance this past semester at Connecticut College. As a freshman, it was difficult to move forward with dance in a new environment since I have had the same dance experience for 15 years. I found myself equating movements and steps to styles more known to me; I was searching for comfort among the abundance of unfamiliarity. The challenge was to embrace modern dancing for everything it entailed. Through watching both professional dancers and other students, as well as improving my personal technique, I certainly feel that I have found a new appreciation for dance. Of all the dance performances this semester, my favorite was the Department Concert. Even though all of the artists were extraordinary to watch, I was able to connect with the dancers most during the Department Concert. Watching Connecticut College students perform gave me a different feeling than the other shows. I could relate to the performers better because I have had conversations with them outside of dance and they have been there as mentors to me and the other freshmen. This feeling of inclusion was only possible because of the atmosphere of the department; everyone, regardless of class year, is genuinely welcomed. These negative manipulative traits are again exemplified as he urges Gertrude to find out about Hamlets motives. He again masks his instructions as advice he states; Tell him his pranks have been to broad to bear with and that you grace hath screen d and stood between heat and him (3.4.5). Polonius s motives for favoring the king so greatly, are not textually funded because the play does not state much about Polonius s history. This war began with an assassination that then led countries across the globe to become involved in a revenge war. These treaties then lead to each country turning to another ally for more men, for more power and more weaponry. Arguably one of the most powerful literary techniques, symbolism aids to create a sense of understanding and awakens a forthright emotion in the mind of the reader. The adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the novel I have chosen to read the use of symbolism is made common by the author, Mark Twain. Though there is more than one, the most critical and influential symbolism is the Mississippi river. Opposing the river is the pendulum. In the short story, the pit and the pendulum, a horror fiction by Edgar Allen Poe, the pendulum plays a significant part and is a key element of its plot. Rivers are generally considered to be placid and to have a sense of tranquility. These characteristics, in a figurative aspect are similar to that of hope. In Greek mythology hope was the last thing that came out of Pandora s Box, the one thing that would help mankind cope with all the evil in the world. Likewise the Mississippi river is a symbol of hope that helps Huck and Jim on their onerous and bizarre adventure. Huck is hoping he will escape his abusive father, the widow s efforts to sivilize him, but most importantly he seeks an adventure made apparent with the title itself. For Jim it is hope, that one day he will free his family from slavery that pushes him on. Both Jim and Huck knowingly or unknowingly, depend on the river. At the same time legal patterns of conduct are supported by centralized power and its coordinating activity, and not merely by the mutual social interaction which produces and reinforces the ethical group conviction[ Timasheff, 1939, p. 15]. Timasheff based his conception of law as the union of ethics and power on four propositions: 1) legal rules are recognized by group members; 2) legal rules are obeyed by group members; 3) legal rules are recognized by the members of active power centers; and 4) legal rules are supported by the members of active power centers[ Timasheff, 248]. They assert that legal rules are not commands, but directions for proper conduct. Timasheff rejected this assertion on the ground that if legal rules are merely directions, they are indistinguishable from friendly advice. The only way to make this important distinction, Timasheff argued, is by reference to power structures: legal rules always express dominance and therefore, they are commands [ Timasheff 253]. Timasheff identified three specific motivations for obeying legal rules: the direct imperative motivation, the direct attributive motivation, and the indirect motivation[ Timasheff 253]. For our purposes here, the first is the most pertinent. Timasheff contended that the roots, instruments and forms of the direct imperative motivation to obey the law are exactly the same as the roots, instruments and forms of obedience within power structures, i.e., dominance, submission, unequal social interaction and power relationships[Timasheff, ... According to a professor of law at Santa Clara University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it. The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have committed a crime (Martin). Why some people are more successful than others? The answer couldn t be just their intelligence or hard working, as Malcolm Gladwell explains in his book. There would be many more reasons to make a person successful. If we want to understand that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also we need to spend more time and research about everything around him such as culture, family, and their habit. For thousands of years, the workings of Hatshepsut have been subject to multiple interpretations, from both her time and the modern day. An evaluation of the effectiveness of her reign can be resolved from the reliability and validity of evidence presented today, both primary and secondary. In one respect, Hatshepsut is viewed as the female pharaoh who had a particularly unsuccessful reign that was devoid of any real achievements. Historians writing in the 1970 s and 1980 s often made sexist and unfounded assumptions about Hatshepsut s rule, including her apparent scheming to take the throne from the ... Some ancient interpretations of Hatshepsut can also be perceived as negative, such as those of Seti I and Ramses II who deliberately excluded her from the King list under the presumption that he rule was a threat to order. Also, Thutmose III s defacement of her monuments is thought to have been done in the act of re establishing ma at and order, as it was believed that a female ruler ultimately defied this natural balance and therefore male dominance had to be restored. Other interpretations deduce Hatshepsut as a highly successful pharaoh whose reign significantly contributed the prosperity and stability of Egypt at the time. Ineni, for example, was an official under Hatshepsut who talked highly of her; she settled the affairs of the Two Lands...whose plans are excellent, she who satisfies the two regions when she speaks . This quote demonstrates that officials from her context believed that she was an effective and efficient ruler who had the support of the official and peasant class. Modern day historians such as Callender, Tyldestry and Redford also present a balanced, more positive view of Hatshepsut as a competent and effective pharaoh who brought peace and prosperity to Egypt. It is not just about more money in a person s pocket; it can affect the economy in multiple ways. Many people think it would be a good idea to raise the average minimum wage, but they do not understand or take the time to think of the disadvantages. The minimum wage is the least amount a worker can be paid at a job, by federal law. The present minimum wage is set at seven dollars and 25 cents. The wage can be determined by votes of the public or the average living cost. Before the Fair Labor Standards Act, corporations were free to choose any pay rate of their choice. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another disadvantage to a rise in pay includes the possibility that some people may lose their government benefits due to their new annual income, such as food stamps or health insurance. The loss of federal and state aids could produce a greater hardship on people and their families than the preexisting minimum wage. For those who have already earned a higher pay due to noticeably hard work or time spent working for a company, the raise of minimum wage would cause the experienced workers to demand more. If the company is already struggling to pay the difference of the raised minimum wage, there will be no option but to either refuse the request of an experienced worker or fire employees. Even though workers have dreamed of a pay raise for years, it has been concluded that the money will not be coming very soon. It is expected to be a few years until an increased minimum wage could be developed (Mcgeehan). This does not include all of America due to larger cities usually having higher wages. Some states have more of a demand due to the different living conditions and different prices of products. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient tomorrow. Maybe the generals of World War 1 (WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and rifles and machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the time of technological innovations and changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I will write about are machine guns, planes and tanks. On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of WW1 significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all areas of the world ever since these first guns were used in WW1. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
