The Siege Of Jerusalem, Pompeii, Herculaneum, And Jerusalem
City configuration was a big contributor to the vulnerability of Rome, Pompeii, Herculaneum, and
Jerusalem as well as the social importance of class and rule in their leaders. Nero in Rome and Titus
during the Siege of Jerusalem cared for themselves and their materialistic values rather than the lives
of others. Consequently, their people and cities were torn apart. Similarly in 2011, the Fukushima
nuclear disaster effected the city in Japan severely. They withheld important information regarding the
nuclear explosions and radiation because they wanted to save face and avoid the consequences. Japan
and the company in charge, TEPCO, put themselves above the lives of the people in Japan just like
Titus and Nero did in Rome and Jerusalem. In his letters to Atticus, Cicero frequently wrote about the
social and political life in Rome. We get a great idea of what the Roman Republic was like with his
speeches, books, but specifically his letters. He enjoyed writing to Atticus about the problems he saw
with the government and complained to him about the officials and inherited wealth of Roman men. If
he was alive during the time of Nero s rule we would expect to read and see letters to his friends about
Nero s wealth and incapability to rule. Cicero would have been enraged with him about the Great Fire
of Rome just as Pliny, Suetonius, and Dio Cassius were. According to one article by Keresztes, Of the
earliest surviving sources, Pliny the Elder, Suetonius and Dio Cassius all,

Complementary therapies are good for a person s health and wellbeing. It is used as a form of
medicine and treatment to some illnesses. Complementary therapies can be used to help the individual
manage pain and help relieve pain. According to NHS Direct These medicines and treatments range
from acupuncture and homeopathy to aromatherapy, meditation and colonic irrigation.

hospitals for example where a patient will be given complimentary therapies related to their illness.
This includes physiatrist, and general massage therapies. Other settings where complementary
therapies may be offered is in a nursing or care home where the resident may be terminally ill and may
require relaxation therapies such as Indian head massage and aroma therapy. A final example of where
therapies can be accessed is at local therapy clinics where a professional may perform complimentary
therapies on an individual to help them relieve stress or anxiety.
There are many different factors that affect access to complementary therapies. An example of this is a
person s disability. If they are physically disabled they may be unable to attend certain treatment or if
they are in any other way disabled the person may be unable to attend treatment.

Fair Negotiations In Collective Bargaining
I believe if fair representation was negotiated in the collective bargaining agreement, it would be fair
for the court to rules that the union has a duty to present these former employees. The sixteen
employees were still members of the union; the union still had an obligation to represent them on this
issue. Even though the employees were laid off, the union had a responsibility to fairly represent those
employees because they were still paying their dues. One of the benefits that the union negotiated with
the employer and employee was that if the company experience laid off the employees will be offered
future employment opportunities if job opens again. The company laid off hundred employees in 1981
and in 1992 the company started to performance

The Major Causes And Effects Of Overcrowding In Cities
Overcrowding in cities
Many countries of the world are currently experiencing problems caused by rapidly growing
populations in urban areas, and both governments and individuals have a duty to find ways to
overcome these problems. Overpopulation can lead to overcrowding and poor quality housing in many
large cities. Poorly heated or damp housing could cause significant health problems, resulting in
illness, such as bronchitis or pneumonia. Another serious consequence of overcrowding is a rising
crime rate as poor living conditions may lead young people in particular to take desperate measures
and turn to crime or drugs. There are some effects of overcrowding. The first one is loss of fresh
water. According to UN Water, 75% of planet Earth is covered in water. 97.5% of that is ocean and
2.5% is freshwater. 70% of freshwater is divided into glaciers and ice caps and the remaining 30% into
land surface water, such as rivers, lakes, ponds and groundwater. Most of the freshwater resources are
either unreachable or too polluted, leaving less than 1% of the world s freshwater, or about 0.003% of
all water on Earth, readily accessible for direct human use. According to the Global Outlook for Water
Resources to the Year 2025, it is estimated that by 2025, more than half of the world population will
be facing water based vulnerability and human demand for water will account for 70% of all available
freshwater. Furthermore, a report in November 2009 by the 2030 Water Resources Group suggests that
by 2030, in some developing
Saigal 2 regions in the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50% and a report jointly produced
by more than two dozen U.N. bodies states that, By 2030, nearly half of the world s people will be
living in areas of acute water shortage. The planet is in the midst of what the United Nations is calling
a Global Water Crisis. Freshwater is the most fundamental finite resource with no substitutes for most
uses, yet we are consuming fresh water at least 10 times faster than it is being replenished in regions
of northern Africa, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, China, and the U.S.. According to the World
Resources Institute, Freshwater ecosystems the diverse communities found in lakes, rivers,

1. Shift marketing research focus
TiVo s market research efforts were put on understanding current clients while it was not clear the
total number of still available clients in the market as well as other important factors regarding buying
behavior were not being considered.
We cannot assume that everyone with a TV enjoys it as much as current clients do and feel the
necessity to record their TV shows. The focus in current clients behavior and the lack of information
about the rest of the market considering client s cultural, social and personal factors does not allow us
to clearly see the potential for this product and more effort must be put on that rather than simple sales
effort.
Furthermore, it should be noticed that the results of the marketing research carried out by TiVo could
be influenced by a set of other biases: non response bias; web users bias; reward bias; questionnaire
length bias and formulation bias (the bi annual survey asks directly about satisfaction , which makes
respondents typically score high).
2. Influence problem recognition
From these learnings we can see that there was an important element in promoting the product which
is referral and trial. This demonstrates that many clients would only recognize a need once they were

Economic Impact On Germany
The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because it affected virtually every
section of German society, and was significant both in the short and long term. The Great Depression
was caused by the Wall Street Crash in the USA in October 1929. Germany was disproportionately
affected compared to other European countries, as Foreign Minister Stresemann had secured loans
worth millions of dollars from American banks in order to boost its economy in the 1920s, and it had
an impact on Germany economically, socially and politically in the 1930s. The significance of this
impact can be measured by examining the sections of society impacted, the number of people
impacted and the duration. The economic impact was the first to be felt and also affected the majority
of Germans, along with the social impact. However, it was the resulting political impact that would
have a much greater and long lasting effect on Germany and its population. Therefore, it was overall
the most significant outcome. The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because
the volume and nature of foreign trade was greatly affected. This is shown partly by the significant
decline in exports; in 1928 Germany exported £630m worth of goods, but by 1932 that figure had
fallen to just £280m. Imports also saw a drastic fall, as the German government wanted as many
products as possible to be produced within the country to protect the economy during the Great
Depression. In 1928,

Summary Of David Chura s Life
1.Overall David Chura s appearance was impacting enough. As someone who wants to go into this
field it was great to have someone who lived through it come in and talk to us. One component of the
discussion that really spoke out was the fact that each chapter was a reflection of what really
happened. So many authors write from ideas in their head. Even some individuals who went through
something and chose to write about it still change certain aspects about it. David actually took his
journals that he wrote and formed that into the book. It is great because the wording and emotions that
are brought while reading the book were some of what David was actually feeling that day when he
reflected on what happened and chose to write about it. In addition, ... Show more content on

What was learned in the classroom that day, brought some great points that can be beneficial in real
life. For example, when looking at the correctional officers who are power crazy, that is something
that is good to have knowledge of. In addition, even if my career does not end up in a jail, you can see
these characteristics in individuals in just about any workplace. The only difference is it is probably
not to the same extent. Another lesson that can be benefiting is the fact that when working with this
specific population problems can arise when they are released. This is something important to
consider when entering the field. For example, David said that he played a positive role with the
inmates for the most part although he still is hesitant for the individuals he helped. This brought the
idea that what about if the individual does not have a positive role with the inmates and they are
released. What are the concerns with seeing these individuals out in public? David summed it up very
well about acknowledging them if they acknowledge you, but it is important not to bring attention to it
due to the fact that some individuals do not want others to acknowledge their past. Furthermore, a
great component that was learned was the fact that David touched on self care. In this field work it can
be very easy to take the stress from the inmate s home with you. Some are just given a bad hand at life
and did not deserve the abuse they encountered. David said that he would

The Nibelung Hero s Journey
A Hero s Journey consists of particularly long trials and tribulations, internally and externally, that
could shape their character into becoming a true hero or one that for all intents and purposes, fails on
their mission. Campbell has designed his own version of that, with set stages of the path that are
central to the model of the hero s story. The Ring of the Nibelung is a text written by Richard Wagner
consisting of four operas, one of which is titled The Valkyrie. In the Valkyrie, a character named
Sigmund is introduced to us, and his story follows pretty closely with what Joseph Campbell defines
as a Hero s Journey in his book Pathways to Bliss. In it, he argues that every time someone is labeled
as a hero in a story, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sigmund s hero s journey, he eventually is sent the child of Signy and Siggeir as his first trial in
order to build up to his eventual goal of killing Siggeir. He kills two sons through testing them, and
finally stumbles upon a third boy ten years later named Sinfiotli. He immediately hits it off with
Sigmund, he has skin as touch as rocks and Sigmund can see his younger self in this child. Sigmund
and Sinfiotli ultimately attempt to murder Siggeir, but are captured and thrown in pit torture. Once
they sneak out of the pit they kill everyone who works in the castle, sparing Signy only to discover
that Sinfiotli is actually the son of Sigmund and Signy. It is at this exact moment that Sigmund s
journey aligns with how Campbell describes apotheosis, where you realize that you are what you are
seeking, he finds out that he has been seeking someone to aid him in killing Siggeir when he was the
one to do it in the end anyway, with his own flesh and blood son (Campbell 118). Even though the
circumstances were somewhat less than ideal, apotheosis allows Sigmund to discover himself towards
the end of his journey; Sinfiotli is literally Sigmund s offspring, he was the one to help his father kill
Siggeir, and he is what Sigmund was unconsciously seeking. In another compelling example, my
mother realized that what she had spent her time all along doing was searching for herself. In her
marriage she thought she found love but instead found only narcissism and manipulation, driving her
to understand that all she needed to seek in life was herself. She experienced her apotheosis moment
as she broke free and became herself. My mom is what she was seeking, Sigmund is who he was
seeking, their challenging existence led them to the point

Benefits Of A Successful Business
In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated to
do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be
profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and
showing appreciation.
When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects
negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return.
Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their
friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that
customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad
reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb).
By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those
employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a
company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business
makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform better
at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. Google is an example of a company that is
highly successful and is known for having generous benefits for their employees to par take. The stock
at Google has climbed

What Are The Similarities Between Achilles And Beowulf
Humans are imperfect, created half to rise, and half to fall ...The glory, jest, and riddle of the world!
(15 18). Both Homer s Iliad, which illustrates the story of the renowned warrior Achilles, and the
Saxon Beowulf, which highlights the adventures of the heroic monster killer Beowulf, convey the idea
that humans are in the middle state (line 3), as Alexander Pope once said. Both works offer insights
that still apply to today s society, where human capability and ambition combined with weakness and
emotion can lead to disaster.
The main characters of both stories, Achilles and Beowulf, are larger than life and never satisfied with
mundanity, seeking to boast their superhuman prowess and cement their glory, but in the end are
proven to be mortal. Achilles, a demi god, is impervious to weapons everywhere but his heel, and uses
this ability to gain fame as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even in modern times, there are still some who seek for their own selfish glory and ambitions and
cause massive repercussions to others. The attitudes of the leaders of some politically extreme nations
such as IS, North Korea, and Israel, reflect those of Achilles and Beowulf. The leader of IS in
particular the caliph, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi pursues extreme Islamic ideology, enacting a genocide
and a war in order to win glory in the annals of Islamic history.
Although now we live in technologically advanced world, human nature has remained the same. Our
basic motivations remain the same. Just as in Beowulf and the Iliad, in our modern times corruption,
avarice, and envy are abound, as much as courage, bravery, and honor. Thus remains the vital question
whether humans should choose to be like Achilles and Beowulf; brave, bold, and ambitious, yet
hubristic and

Summary Of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
P 1: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. It was written in
1970 for his album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox . During this time there was a profound shift in the
struggle for equality as the fight for civil rights gave way to the demand for Black Power. Scott Heron
tried to attract and encourage all people to continue being actively involved in the revolution and not
to just watch it from a safe distance. He also warned people to be wary of the media and their
portrayal of African American society. The song looks at the power of the media not just in observing
society s politics but in shaping them. He reminds us that big corporations own everything we see on
television and even when we do get involved in the revolution, there will be no news coverage on it.
The song aims to denounce the elusive nature of political culture in Nixon s America, and the inability
of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people (Smith). The Revolution Will Not Be

This line was a popular slogan during the Black Power movement in the 1970s, and it acts as a stand
in or summary for the entire message of the song. By saying The Revolution Will Not Be Televised ,
Gil Scott Heron is saying you cannot just sit down and watch its progress from the comfort of your
own home; you must be involved on the streets. He is urging his community to resist the pessimism of
passivity and to fight actively for the change they want to see. There is also a sense of immediacy to
the message. The revolution is happening now. It is a live event. Even if the mainstream media and
those capitalist puppets who control it allowed such a movement to be documented, their efforts

The Role Of Buddhism In Heian Art
Buddhism began to dominate Japanese culture during the Heian period from 794 C.E. to 1185 C.E.
and affected both spiritual and political issues in Japan. For example, every time an emperor died
during this period, the capital would have to move, as the people were superstitious. This period is
also marked by Chinese influence with the adoption of Buddhism in Japan and ideally planned cities.
The Head of the Buddha was made during the twelfth century and The Head of the Bodhisattva was
made circa 1053 C.E. These two pieces fit into this time period stylistically, as they relate to Buddhist
ideals during the Heian period. These sculptures demonstrate their nature through their subject

As these two pieces are made of wood, the outward appearance of them is a brown color. The Head of
the Bodhisattva, however, has some residue on the surface that turns the color of the wood white and
even black in some places. At first glance, one would think this could be some kind of rot in the wood,
but it could also be some residual traces of paint along the surface. Although not apparent on the
exterior, The Head of the Buddha has traces of polychromy like the Bodhisattva head. This would
indicate that these wooden sculptures would have been more decorated when they were first
completed. The Head of the Buddha also takes on characteristic surface patterns that are common
among Buddha figures. The hair has a pearl like quality, as the Buddha was of Indian origin. He has a
serene face, which is highlighted through his slit eyes. It was also common for a Buddha to have
multiple chins, and long elongated ears that are proportionally larger than they should be in reality.
One of the less common features, but also sometimes included, is the hole in the center of the Buddha
s forehead, which represents his third eye. The Bodhisattva also showcases common features. Like the
Buddha, it was common for the Bodhisattva to have elongated ears as well. Unlike the Buddha s hair,
the Bodhisattva has flatter hair with the occasional bump to make it appear curly. It was also common

Essay on Robert Frost Mending Wall
It is no secret how Robert Frost feels about walls after reading his poem Mending Wall . To say that
Frost admired and favored walls would be a lie. On the contrary, based on his poem it is apparent that
he would prefer there be no walls present. I was led to ask myself, what type of wall is Frost referring
to? It is not merely a physical wall made of stone, but a barrier that people place among each other to
create an illusion of separation and protection. The style of the poem makes it simple to read, however
when you take a closer look into the poem, you discover a whole new meaning. Frost uses a variety of
techniques throughout his poem such as metaphor, symbolism and imagery to help us understand his
feelings and how those feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isn t it/ where there are cows? But there are no cows here (Line 29 31). Ironically he also states, I have
come after them and make repair/ where they have left not one stone on a stone (Line 6 7). He is
otherwise saying that although he feels the repairing of the wall is unnecessary, in order to maintain
peace between his neighbor he will rebuild the unnecessary wall. It would make sense to simply have
Frost leave the wall alone, thus ending the separation, but he chooses not to, indicating that he too
finds comfort in the presence of the wall. One of the first things that I noticed about the style of the
poem was that it was not broken up into stanzas, when looked at sideways gave the illusion of a wall
with gaps. It is a series of lines which become a poem that is written as a blank verse iambic
pentameter. Each line consists of ten syllables with the exception of Lines 8, 16, 24, 26, 27, 28, 37, 43,
45, which contain eleven syllables. At first glance it is easy to overlook this detail, but once it is noted
the question arises, what is the significance in these particular lines? In lines 26 and 45 the neighbor
says to Frost, Good fences make good neighbors , we also learn in line 43 that, He (the neighbor) will
not go behind his father s saying . These particular lines are important because they help us to
understand that the presence of the wall is something that was instilled in the neighbor. By taking note
that the mending of the wall

become more powerful by working in the homeland. The fact even a girl in her late teen years is
working, whether she s actually working in the military or she s indirectly contributing to the Empire s
military, her mother sees her daughter s work with pride and honor. The benefits of having a husband
or a father in the army are also frequently noted. All of these things are so hard to come by nowadays,
but soldiers families get the best. (Takahata,0:24:25) In this scene, Seita brings everything he has left
from his home and give the food to his aunt. This scene reveals how much honor and pride it brings to
a family just by having a family member in the navy. You need nourishment. You can t be a soldier if
you don t grow up healthy. (Takahata,0:36:35). This is a scene that connects to the other two
references. Here, the Aunt shows her expectations of Seita to become another honorable soldier like
his father. In this scene, The aunt convinces Seita to trade her mother s kimonos(traditional Japanese
dress) for white rice, a privileged food during the war. It seems that only Setsuko understood the
sentimental value of the dresses when she tried stopping Seita from trading them. The last objects with
sentimental value that he was able to hold on to until the end was his father s cap and picture. Looking
back when Mr. Minkus asked what 5 things would I bring a picture of my family just made that list. I
thought having a phone on that list was not a bad idea at all. I would argue that a phone and other
items of high value to society we re actually the best things to be on that list. Just like how Seita

The 1997 Film Adaptation Of Lolita
#1 The 1997 film adaptation of Lolita centres around the romance between middle aged professor
Humbert Humbert and a (very, very) young girl named Dolores Haze. Taking place in 1947, the story
starts when Humbert, a French literature professor, begins living with the recently widowed Charlotte
Haze. Being attracted to young girls his whole life, Humbert marries Charlotte to be around her
daughter Dolores, who he calls Lo . Humbert and Lo then proceed to run away and go on a sex filled
motel hopping road trip before eventually settling in Beardsley, a college town where Humbert gets a
teaching job. Lo, becoming increasing bored with Humbert and seeking adventure, leaves Humbert for
a writer named Clare Quilty. Three years pass and Humbert receives a letter from Lo asking him for
money. Quilty had tried to convince her to star in the child pornography he was producing, and when
she refused, abandoned her. Now with Lo married and pregnant, Humbert tries to convince her to
leave her husband to no avail. He then tracks down and murders Quilty. As the film ends, Humbert
dies in prison awaiting trial and Dolores dies from complications in childbirth. The film was Directed
by Adrian Lyne, known for the cult classic horror film Jacob s Ladder, as well as box office hits Fatal
Attraction and Indecent Proposal. Jeremy Irons co stars as Humber Humbert alongside Dominique
Swain, who plays Dolores Haze. The film was released in 1997, which was 35 years after Kubrick s

How Does The Energy Output Of Ethanol And Determine The...
Background Information
Calorimeters are devices used to indirectly calculate the energy output of burning fuels by measuring
the changes of heat in a system which can then be converted to energy by known mathematical
relationships. This investigation seeks to calculate the energy output of Ethanol and determine the
optimal calorimeter apparatus for its combustion considering different types of insulation and the best
substance in the Calorimeter to absorb the heat of the reaction.
Alcohols are an organic compound whose molecule contains one or more of the hydroxyl functional
group ( OH) that is bonded to a carbon atom of an alkyl (Nave, 2014). When alcohol is burnt, a
combustion reaction occurs with the oxygen in the air, releasing energy in the form of heat. The
specific ethanol reaction is as follows:
(ΔH = 1300 kJ/mol)
According to The First Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in a system is constant; it can be
transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed (Purdue, 2004). Energy in
chemical reactions is released as heat, which gets transferred from a substance of higher energy, to that
of a lower energy, most commonly by conduction. Conduction occurs best with metals because their
molecules are close and they can absorb and release energy quickly, whilst mediums like air are
considered insulators because their particles are distanced (Nave, 2014).
The specific heat capacity of the substance provides a means of relating the energy

Orangeburg Massacre Essay
Eventually, the occurrence of the Orangeburg Massacre led to the racial integration of Orangeburg and
many other parts of South Carolina. If the Orangeburg Massacre had not occurred, South Carolina
might not have become the racially equal society it is today. However, not everybody agreed with the
change that was being brought as a result of the event. Many caucasians at the time attempted to cover
the incident up, and to blame whatever could not be hidden on the protesters. Nevertheless, civil rights
protesters were not going to let the killing of their fellow pupils be in vain. The students of
Orangeburg demanded the punishment of highway patrolmen and other law enforcers on scene the
night of the massacre. They wished to see the officers punished to the fullest extent of the law so that
justice could be served to the families of the three young men who were killed (Pulaski 10). But, as an
attempt to hide the massacre, many white owned newspaper companies either simply refused to report
the event, or blamed the massacre on the protesters that participated that night (3 Negroes 1). A
skirmish line of highway patrolmen and city police returned the fire of demonstrating college students
last night (3 Negroes 1). After a scant two weeks, no white owned newspaper business covered the
event at all.
However, African American and civil rights supportive newspapers refused to give up. The New York

Compare And Contrast The Giver And Divergent
The Giver written by Lois Lowry is set in a so called perfect world free from fear and harm but also
from emotions, choices and memories. Jonas is seen to become the new receiver of memory within the
community, changing his views and feelings on the community and caused him to run away and
escape with Gabe. Themes such as the importance of memory, the relationship between pain and
pleasure and no feelings or emotions can be identified throughout the novel. Divergent directed by
Neil Burger is set in a dystopian city damaged by a great war. Beatris (Tris) finds that she is a
divergent within her community, and starts to become hunted by the leaders to destroy their existence
causing her and others to run away to safety from the factions. Fear, identity, values and family can all
be identified as major themes within the text. Through these settings, characters, storylines and themes
countless differences and similarities can be found between both The Giver and Divergent.
Various similarities are highlighted between The Giver and Divergent through their settings,
characters, storyline and major themes throughout the texts. Numerous amounts of similarities can be
identified in The Giver s setting and Divergent s setting. Such things as both settings are seen to be set

A Study Of Personality Between Samsung, Samsung And Motorola
Against: ========= The inner characteristics, unique to individuals define their personality it
reflects the individual differences. Some individuals are very social, some are timid, some adventurous
and some methodical. While one s personality is often interpreted by those we interact with, the
person has their own vision of their personality this influences their buying behaviour. Thus, a study
of personality is very important for marketers, as it can help them differentiate and segment consumers
into separate groups on the basis of their personality traits. Consumers associate they choices with
their personality, physical activities, associations with others and their interests. Thus their buying
behaviour is mapped to their choices with their psycographic measures (how they live, work and
play). Personality of the buyer defines the items that are more likely to be valued. Consumers are
willing to pay a premium for items that reflect their personality. Motorola did a spectacular job with
the mobile Moto X . It is Motorola s flagship phone, priced appropriately for a flagship device.

Staffing System For A Job

and (c) questions about previous work experience. To determine scores for qualitative responses such
as interview questions, letters of recommendations and previous work experience questions, a scale
would have to be created. To determine these scores, the answers would have to be looked at
subjectively by the reviewer and given a number on a rating scale. Once the answers are given a

more valuable to the company. 3. Give examples of when you would want the following for a written

The Causal Effects Of Oil On Regional Conflict
Introduction
Oil, although a natural resource should be seen as a harmless, plentiful substance, in the modern world
it is now considered a symbol of wealth; which in my view is representative of political and economic
power. Countries that have oil reserves, or who can exploit oil ownership are often seen and
acknowledged of the most powerful nations in the world. China, Russia, and the United States of
America all have vast reserves of oil and are widely considered to be the top three Super Powers as
they are categorized as being .

Their leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, wanted greater control of the natural resources within the
Delta, and to have a national conference to renegotiate Nigeria s federal constitution. Many activists
have wanted these negotiations to be held for years, but Asari is willing to use force to get these talks,
and that is where he varies from many of these other political activists. Asari has links to organised
crime within the region. The protests in this region have been described as being akin to American

These attacks on the oil companies are serious enough for the government to reward the violence by

means that the country s economy relies heavily on oil revenue, about 50 per cent of the GDP, 95 per

Does A Person s Socioeconomic Background Influence...
Does a Person s Socioeconomic Background Influence Altruistic Behavior? During the Middle Ages,
the majority of peasants in Feudal Europe were loyal and submissive to their nobles, motivated by the
values taught in their strong Catholic belief system. According to Chapter XVI: The Life of the
Peasants , the successes of many nobles and knights were due to the faithfulness of their peasants,
whom they had oppressed and wronged (Davis 46). Modern day altruism is also influenced by
socioeconomic status and religion, similar to how the religious members of the third estates supported
the upper social echelons.

According to Judith Warner, a New York Times journalist who specializes in psychology, the
charitable giving deficit is due to the lack of empathy towards the hardships of the poor among their
rich counterparts (Warner 2). In light of this, it is important to determine how socioeconomic
background influences donation patterns in order to bridge the charitable giving gap. Altruistic
behaviors in their quintessential form are selflessly motivated prosocial actions; they influence
virtually all human interactions. In America, altruism is ostensibly embodied in the giving patterns of
wealthy philanthropists who have a history of creating endowments and donating assets to higher
education and other charitable programs. However, in reality, the lower and middle classes account for
most of the charitable giving in America. Furthermore, altruism is identified with prosocial behavior,
or actions that benefit society as a whole, in sociological interactions. Individuals who come from
lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more altruistic because their increased empathy for human
welfare and intrinsic self transcendent value systems motivate them to give more readily.

In sociology, altruism characterizes virtually all human interactions. Whether it be marginal acts of
kindness or donations to local charities, altruism allows for society to function by helping those in
need. Individuals from lower social echelons endure

The Importance Of Historical Writing
Historical writing can be done in a number of ways. Based on the approach, historical writing can be
very compelling or lack usefulness. In Stono, there are four different historical approaches to writing.
All pertaining to the same event, the Stono slave rebellion. In New Social History, Hoefferle
approaches history in an analytic, more scientific approach. Looking at the social economic factors,
and using social science methods, to understand history. Hoefferle argues that race, and gender, shaped
the social history. In The Power of History, Appleby argues that historical writing, historiographical
analysis, is translating. She argues that historical writers are translators to the rest of society, of what
history is most relevant. In When Fish Walk on Land, Eustace argues that since 1970, social history
has broken the one synthesis mold. She argues there has to be a compilation, and balance, of synthesis,
fragmentation, and a narrative, in historical writing. In Conflict and the Slave Community, Forret
argues the psychological and social implications of slavery. He argues that they were put in situations
that led them to violence. In interpreting the Stono slave rebellion, Forret s argument contributes the

The Siege Of Jerusalem, Pompeii, Herculaneum, And Jerusalem City configuration was a big contributor to the vulnerability of Rome, Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Jerusalem as well as the social importance of class and rule in their leaders. Nero in Rome and Titus during the Siege of Jerusalem cared for themselves and their materialistic values rather than the lives of others. Consequently, their people and cities were torn apart. Similarly in 2011, the Fukushima nuclear disaster effected the city in Japan severely. Cicero would have been enraged with him about the Great Fire of Rome just as Pliny, Suetonius, and Dio Cassius were. According to one article by Keresztes, Of the earliest surviving sources, Pliny the Elder, Suetonius and Dio Cassius all, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Major Causes And Effects Of Overcrowding In Cities Overcrowding in cities Many countries of the world are currently experiencing problems caused by rapidly growing populations in urban areas, and both governments and individuals have a duty to find ways to overcome these problems. Overpopulation can lead to overcrowding and poor quality housing in many large cities. Poorly heated or damp housing could cause significant health problems, resulting in illness, such as bronchitis or pneumonia. Another serious consequence of overcrowding is a rising crime rate as poor living conditions may lead young people in particular to take desperate measures and turn to crime or drugs. There are some effects of overcrowding. The first one is loss of fresh water. According to UN Water, 75% of planet Earth is covered in water. 97.5% of that is ocean and 2.5% is freshwater. 70% of freshwater is divided into glaciers and ice caps and the remaining 30% into land surface water, such as rivers, lakes, ponds and groundwater. Most of the freshwater resources are either unreachable or too polluted, leaving less than 1% of the world s freshwater, or about 0.003% of all water on Earth, readily accessible for direct human use. According to the Global Outlook for Water Resources to the Year 2025, it is estimated that by 2025, more than half of the world population will be facing water based vulnerability and human demand for water will account for 70% of all available freshwater. Furthermore, a report in November 2009 by the 2030 Water Resources Group suggests that by 2030, in some developing Saigal 2 regions in the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50% and a report jointly produced by more than two dozen U.N. bodies states that, By 2030, nearly half of the world s people will be living in areas of acute water shortage. The planet is in the midst of what the United Nations is calling a Global Water Crisis. Freshwater is the most fundamental finite resource with no substitutes for most uses, yet we are consuming fresh water at least 10 times faster than it is being replenished in regions of northern Africa, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, China, and the U.S.. We cannot assume that everyone with a TV enjoys it as much as current clients do and feel the necessity to record their TV shows. The focus in current clients behavior and the lack of information about the rest of the market considering client s cultural, social and personal factors does not allow us to clearly see the potential for this product and more effort must be put on that rather than simple sales effort. Furthermore, it should be noticed that the results of the marketing research carried out by TiVo could be influenced by a set of other biases: non response bias; web users bias; reward bias; questionnaire length bias and formulation bias (the bi annual survey asks directly about satisfaction , which makes respondents typically score high). 2. • 11. Economic Impact On Germany The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because it affected virtually every section of German society, and was significant both in the short and long term. The Great Depression was caused by the Wall Street Crash in the USA in October 1929. Germany was disproportionately affected compared to other European countries, as Foreign Minister Stresemann had secured loans worth millions of dollars from American banks in order to boost its economy in the 1920s, and it had an impact on Germany economically, socially and politically in the 1930s. The significance of this impact can be measured by examining the sections of society impacted, the number of people impacted and the duration. The economic impact was the first to be felt and also affected the majority of Germans, along with the social impact. However, it was the resulting political impact that would have a much greater and long lasting effect on Germany and its population. Therefore, it was overall the most significant outcome. The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because the volume and nature of foreign trade was greatly affected. This is shown partly by the significant decline in exports; in 1928 Germany exported £630m worth of goods, but by 1932 that figure had fallen to just £280m. Imports also saw a drastic fall, as the German government wanted as many products as possible to be produced within the country to protect the economy during the Great Depression. In 1928, ... • 12. Summary Of David Chura s Life 1.Overall David Chura s appearance was impacting enough. As someone who wants to go into this field it was great to have someone who lived through it come in and talk to us. One component of the discussion that really spoke out was the fact that each chapter was a reflection of what really happened. So many authors write from ideas in their head. Even some individuals who went through something and chose to write about it still change certain aspects about it. David actually took his journals that he wrote and formed that into the book. It is great because the wording and emotions that are brought while reading the book were some of what David was actually feeling that day when he reflected on what happened and chose to write about it. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was learned in the classroom that day, brought some great points that can be beneficial in real life. For example, when looking at the correctional officers who are power crazy, that is something that is good to have knowledge of. In addition, even if my career does not end up in a jail, you can see these characteristics in individuals in just about any workplace. The only difference is it is probably not to the same extent. Another lesson that can be benefiting is the fact that when working with this specific population problems can arise when they are released. This is something important to consider when entering the field. For example, David said that he played a positive role with the inmates for the most part although he still is hesitant for the individuals he helped. This brought the idea that what about if the individual does not have a positive role with the inmates and they are released. What are the concerns with seeing these individuals out in public? David summed it up very well about acknowledging them if they acknowledge you, but it is important not to bring attention to it due to the fact that some individuals do not want others to acknowledge their past. Furthermore, a great component that was learned was the fact that David touched on self care. In this field work it can be very easy to take the stress from the inmate s home with you. Some are just given a bad hand at life and did not deserve the abuse they encountered. David said that he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Nibelung Hero s Journey A Hero s Journey consists of particularly long trials and tribulations, internally and externally, that could shape their character into becoming a true hero or one that for all intents and purposes, fails on their mission. Campbell has designed his own version of that, with set stages of the path that are central to the model of the hero s story. The Ring of the Nibelung is a text written by Richard Wagner consisting of four operas, one of which is titled The Valkyrie. In the Valkyrie, a character named Sigmund is introduced to us, and his story follows pretty closely with what Joseph Campbell defines as a Hero s Journey in his book Pathways to Bliss. In it, he argues that every time someone is labeled as a hero in a story, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Sigmund s hero s journey, he eventually is sent the child of Signy and Siggeir as his first trial in order to build up to his eventual goal of killing Siggeir. He kills two sons through testing them, and finally stumbles upon a third boy ten years later named Sinfiotli. He immediately hits it off with Sigmund, he has skin as touch as rocks and Sigmund can see his younger self in this child. Sigmund and Sinfiotli ultimately attempt to murder Siggeir, but are captured and thrown in pit torture. Once they sneak out of the pit they kill everyone who works in the castle, sparing Signy only to discover that Sinfiotli is actually the son of Sigmund and Signy. It is at this exact moment that Sigmund s journey aligns with how Campbell describes apotheosis, where you realize that you are what you are seeking, he finds out that he has been seeking someone to aid him in killing Siggeir when he was the one to do it in the end anyway, with his own flesh and blood son (Campbell 118). Even though the circumstances were somewhat less than ideal, apotheosis allows Sigmund to discover himself towards the end of his journey; Sinfiotli is literally Sigmund s offspring, he was the one to help his father kill Siggeir, and he is what Sigmund was unconsciously seeking. In another compelling example, my mother realized that what she had spent her time all along doing was searching for herself. In her marriage she thought she found love but instead found only narcissism and manipulation, driving her to understand that all she needed to seek in life was herself. She experienced her apotheosis moment as she broke free and became herself. My mom is what she was seeking, Sigmund is who he was seeking, their challenging existence led them to the point ... • 15. Benefits Of A Successful Business In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and showing appreciation. When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return. Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb). By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business makes money if the employees are pleased. It was written in 1970 for his album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox . During this time there was a profound shift in the struggle for equality as the fight for civil rights gave way to the demand for Black Power. Scott Heron tried to attract and encourage all people to continue being actively involved in the revolution and not to just watch it from a safe distance. He also warned people to be wary of the media and their portrayal of African American society. The song looks at the power of the media not just in observing society s politics but in shaping them. He reminds us that big corporations own everything we see on television and even when we do get involved in the revolution, there will be no news coverage on it. It would make sense to simply have Frost leave the wall alone, thus ending the separation, but he chooses not to, indicating that he too finds comfort in the presence of the wall. One of the first things that I noticed about the style of the poem was that it was not broken up into stanzas, when looked at sideways gave the illusion of a wall with gaps. Background Information Calorimeters are devices used to indirectly calculate the energy output of burning fuels by measuring the changes of heat in a system which can then be converted to energy by known mathematical relationships. This investigation seeks to calculate the energy output of Ethanol and determine the optimal calorimeter apparatus for its combustion considering different types of insulation and the best substance in the Calorimeter to absorb the heat of the reaction. Alcohols are an organic compound whose molecule contains one or more of the hydroxyl functional group ( OH) that is bonded to a carbon atom of an alkyl (Nave, 2014). When alcohol is burnt, a combustion reaction occurs with the oxygen in the air, releasing energy in the form of heat. The specific ethanol reaction is as follows: (ΔH = 1300 kJ/mol) According to The First Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in a system is constant; it can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed (Purdue, 2004). Energy in chemical reactions is released as heat, which gets transferred from a substance of higher energy, to that of a lower energy, most commonly by conduction. Conduction occurs best with metals because their molecules are close and they can absorb and release energy quickly, whilst mediums like air are considered insulators because their particles are distanced (Nave, 2014). In Stono, there are four different historical approaches to writing. All pertaining to the same event, the Stono slave rebellion. In New Social History, Hoefferle approaches history in an analytic, more scientific approach. Looking at the social economic factors, and using social science methods, to understand history. Hoefferle argues that race, and gender, shaped the social history. In The Power of History, Appleby argues that historical writing, historiographical analysis, is translating. She argues that historical writers are translators to the rest of society, of what history is most relevant. In When Fish Walk on Land, Eustace argues that since 1970, social history has broken the one synthesis mold. She argues there has to be a compilation, and balance, of synthesis, fragmentation, and a narrative, in historical writing. In Conflict and the Slave Community, Forret argues the psychological and social implications of slavery. He argues that they were put in situations that led them to violence. In interpreting the Stono slave rebellion, Forret s argument contributes the most to understanding why, when, and how. Forret s argument aids in understanding the revolt, pertaining to psychological, and societal influences. In Anatomy of a Revolt, Peter H. Wood provides a classic interpretation of the revolt.
