2. About me
My name is Jacquelyne Maycock and I am an 18 year old student
currently in my first year of BTEC Level 3 extended diploma Multi-
media Journalism. My ideal job role is to become a magazine
editor for preferably Cosmopolitan Magazine. I would like to work
in this area as it allows you to have freedom and have an artistic
attitude whilst focusing on journalism.
I would be able to oversee the layout of the magazine, the
structure, appearance and content of feature articles. I would also
be able to generate ideas overseeing art work, design and
photography for the features.
Because of the irregularity of the job role, the expected hours to
work differ depending on many factors, including deadlines, what
publication you work for or if you work for specialist trade journal.
This means that hours can vary dramatically and the role is
specified for extremely flexible individuals as working weekdays as
well as weekends is sometimes essential.

5. SWOT
My strengths for this job role is that I am an artistic person with an authentic,
original perspective. I enjoy being very creative and I’m very good at it. In
addition to this I am also an open minded person with a lot of optimism, this
helps me with the creative aspect of my chosen career. Another strength is
that I am a patient person with self-preservation which enables me to think
and make the best out of the situation I am handed. Also, I am able to take
care of my time and spread it out proportionally which enables me to meet
the deadlines I am given and have my tasks competed to the best of my
ability.
One of my weaknesses is that I allow stress to build up very quickly and make
me feel very tense if I do not complete a task fully or on time.
My opportunities would be to track my grades in individual lessons so I can
identify my strengths and work on my weaknesses to get the grades needed.
A threat of me getting the career in the role I aim for is that more educated
candidates could apply for the same role and be seen as more applicable than
myself.

6. Plan of action
For starters, I will continue my first year of college in BTEC Level 3 Extended diploma
Multi-Media Journalism. Whilst I am in this year I plan to start looking for work
experience and start to investigate different opportunities. In my second year I plan to
continue my studies and try to gain work experience in Sky Television.
Once I have finished college I plan to go to the University of Westminster and study
digital design for 3 years whilst having a part time job in a graphic print work place to
gain experience and knowledge along the way. In addition to this I can also continue
my work experience with Sky in their London department.
After I have completed my 3 years in university I will then try to get a job in digital
content. As I would have previous experience in working with Sky industry I plan to get
a job in their media department.
After being within the company I then want to work my way up within the department
and become a manager taking more responsibilities and control.
If I am unable to get a job in digital content then Sky also offer apprenticeships in all
areas. Therefore I would finish University and then apply for an apprenticeship in
digital content.
