This document outlines a 5-year plan for pursuing a career in media. The individual is currently studying creative media to gain practical skills and build a portfolio. They plan to continue their studies and achieve high grades. Potential university courses mentioned are prop making at Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, filmmaking at Leeds Art University, and film at Middlesex University. Work experience with prop makers or on film sets is suggested. Personal skills like motivation and confidence need improvement. The 5-year goal is to complete university and gain experience in the media industry.

2. What are you currently doing to pursue a career in your chosen field?
I am currently doing a number of things to pursue a career in media. Firstly i have decided to take creative
media instead of going into my second year of a-levels because I figure out during my first year that what i was
doing wasn't going to help me get where I want to go. By taking creative media it teaches me the practical side
of media which is really important since it means that I build up experiences and skills which is very important
in media careers. It also means that whilst learning I build up my own portfolio which will come in handy when
applying to universities r jobs as it shows my skills and what I'm capable of.
At the moment I'm still unsure as to what career I want to pursue in, so I'm just trying to build up my skills in
different areas, such as editing in premier, Photoshop and InDesign.

3. What do you plan to do next in the pursuit of your chosen field?
I want to get onto my second year of creative media, and get the best grade I am able to achieve. I'm honestly
not sure exactly what field I want to go into just yet as I am interested in a different areas. Fields that interest me
the most are prop making, visual effects and filmmaking.
In pursuit of these fields I have been practicing filmmaking and editing in my current course(when I made my first
music video).it wasn't the best thing ever, but I learnt a lot of techniques and am able to see what worked and
what didn't.
For prop designing I have been trying to create small props such as masks and trying to learn new skills like
sewing . Becoming a prop maker means that you need to have a broad range of skills under your belt since thee
are so many thing you may be asked to make going from a sword to a book or even fake food.

5. What type of work experience do you think you would need to help you in your future career? How might you
be able to find work experience placements? If you could pick anywhere to do work experience, where would it
be and why?
Prop making companies/theatre- learn new skills and get used to being in that kind of environment. See how
people work together as a group. There are many theatres around York, meaning that it thee will always be
help wanted.
Runner- get used to being around sets, see what a normal schedule is like.
If I could have work experience anywhere it would be at the royal opera house. I would like to see how all
the different departments work both separately and as a team to help produce shows. I would probably like
to work alongside the prop designer and see how they make props from start to finish and how

6. What specific skills do you need to develop? There should be a mix of industry specific skills and also personal
development points. When you identify these, come up with suggestions as to how you might make those
improvements.
Industry skills that I need to develop are as follows. Photoshop editing, video editing(effects). To improve on these
skills I can do mini projects on my own to expand my knowledge and creative skills in those areas. This can be from
editing picture, or practicing how to edit together a simple film, learning how to make shots transition smoother
and make sense to the viewer.
There are a couple of personal skills that I really need to work on, being motivated, my confidence and better
attendance. I think because I struggle with being motivated, it has a knock on effect on everything else , especially
attendance. If I improve on my motivation/positive thinking I think it will help me improve in other aspects of my
life too and over all make me a more productive person.
I'm currently working on this by taking time to realise why I feel unmotivated and checking in with my mental
health. This is really important going forward.

7. In 5 years time I will…
I will have just finished my last year on university. I will probably want to take a break from education and go
travelling. I know finding a job in the area you want can be really hard at times, so it could be a while till I cant even
get the job I'm aiming for. If this is the case I will take whatever jobs I can find, maybe start with any job in the
industry I want to be in, and work my way up.
I hope that in 5 years time I am making enough money to be financially secure.
