June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. What are you currently doing to pursue a career in your chosen field?
When it comes down to my career path my main hope is to be a director one day. There are
different baby steps that need applying when taking a career this deep further on. I will be
studying at university next year that will hold a media or media related course. This all depending
on the amount of UCAS points I get this year and the amount that are required to get into
university next year. Whilst I do want to be a director one day. Anything with a media aspect I find
enjoyable even if I'm not yet fully developed at the skills that are needed for it. I enjoy making
posters and any other artwork. That I can make on Photoshop. I currently have many different
social media accounts ranging from reddit, instagram, twitter ETC. To help promote the material
than I am producing. If a lot more people like then I will start putting my artwork onto a
Redbubble account where people can purchase it from there. Eventually as well it would be nice
show the breakdown of the posters I'm making. So I'm thinking about screen recording the
processes of these posters and uploading them to YouTube as tutorials. This will give me more
experience in video editing and will also demonstrate promotion when it comes to your artwork.
Though from an education side I will be continuing my studies at college for the rest of year. I am
in high hopes that I will be getting a distinction level grade in order to get into university. I got a
distinction when I did my first year of level two last year. So I'm just going to have to work extra
hard. Knowing that I will capably be able to reach that level grade. I am also looking for a job
will be able to do whilst I am working. With the coronavirus outbreak things have been a little
rocky with everyone lately.
3. What do you plan to do next in the pursuit of your chosen field?
Like I said in the previous slide I am aiming at looking towards a university to go to. Possible St
John’s as it’s relatively close and I have already been to the opening day to look at the
It’s equipment is extremely professional and it will be an honour to get go there. In order for this
to happen however. I need to hand in my personal statement as well as get the right amount of
points from my grades this year. I would like to spend three years at St John’s university. This will
give me the experience and the qualifications to move on up to the career path that I want be in.
This will be the best option for me moving forward. This way I can assess everything that I have
done up to this point and decide where or not want to go to further my career path. Whilst I
to stay in education a little longer. Not just find out what it is I exactly want to do but also so that
my qualifications in my education path also has improved. So St John’s is the main University that
want to go to but there are others. St John’s impresses me a lot but there are some universities
that have a higher percentage rate on its students grades. There much higher expectations need
other universities but I think if I work at my best I will be able to achieve these targets of being
welcomed in. My five year plan is still quite vivid and not very clear in my head yet. I know what I
want to be doing next year but where the future will take me when I have chosen that path is
impossible to guess and will remain a mystery until something unique happens whilst I am at that
course. Anything could happen whilst I'm still at university or I could develop a different mind
structure and work out what's best. That last thing I doubt quite a lot as my passion for media is
very deep and I can really see it taking me somewhere. However it’s better sometimes to go with
the flow when you have your career path ahead of you because you don’t know if that what you
want to do for definite in the future.
4. Select at least three potential University courses that would help you further your career aims. You should state what the
course is, which university it is run by, the entry requirements and why you think it would help you.
ST John’s university – Media Production: Film and Television :
• The minimum entry requirements to get into this university are 96 UCAS Tariff points
and 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including English Language. Meaning that if I get
points this year I’ll be able to get into this university
• I think get into this university will be extremely beneficial for me as I have already been to the opening
there and equipment that was being used was really advanced. I would consider goin to this university
be great for me because
University of Sheffield – Digital Media and Society BA
• An A-level qualification grade of ABB. GCSE English Language at grade C/4; IELTS grade of 6.5 with a
minimum of 6.0 in each component. The last just access to the university that has to be provided from
obviously. Though recommendation can also be stated there.
• I've looked at some of modules that the students are being tasked in over the year and it very much
intrigued. The structure of the courses they have to years by year and not only that but the digital side
thing seems very professional.
Harvard university – film and visual studies:
• 15-20 page writing sample about on a particular film or piece of media that I want to study. An average
no lower than A- in courses related to film and visual studies. Three letters of recommendation from
previous professors/lectures/teachers you have worked with. Statement of purpose: letter stating who I
and why I want to be there.
• The reason that I want to go to Harvard is in the same reason I want to go to ST Johns but on a much
greater scale. With such great facilities and such a high success rate. It would be hard to turn down
Harvard if I had the chance to go down there.
5. What type of work experience do you think you would need to help you in your future career?
How might you be able to find work experience placements? If you could pick anywhere to do
work experience, where would it be and why?
I think currently at the age I am at I shouldn't be doing anything can be counted
too professional because then there could be the worry of me getting stuck in
job for too long. Possibly working at a shop but its got to have relation to the
media world so then its adds to my CV for when I want to move up to something
more challenging. I have being looking at some cinema jobs or DVD shops. As I
would consider them to be the perfect place to work at for myself at this current
time. It will also help pay of most of my debt at the end of my three year
education. My university course will expand to one day a week possibly when
estimated. So the rest of the days would be spent working. I think this is a great
schedule ahead and a subtle transition of education to work. Whilst the majority
m days are spent working at where I am going to work. I would still consider the
work that I would be doing at ST John’s to be more beneficial as it has a lot more
benefits and looks impressive on my CV when I comes to the end of my three
run. Wherever these work experience jobs take me I hope that they lead me on
right path of where it is I want to and what it is want to do, that being something
behind the camera.
6. What specific skills do you need to develop? There should be a mix of industry specific skills
and also personal development points. When you identify these, come up with suggestions
as to how you might make those improvements.
One major skill that needs developing is camera work. I do have a camera and
I have mastered the basics of it. I do need to get a better understanding of it. It is
vital that I learn these skills for the filmmaking that will be taking place at university.
It’s better if I get a better understanding of my camera now rather than at
September because I will be already learning a lot about how the equipment
operates there. Whilst I do think I am good at Photoshop. I always see room of
improvement and I am very critical when it comes to my work on that side. I have
been thinking about 3D modelling on Photoshop but where that will take me. I
don’t know. I think if I concentrated on that do then that could effect my
performance on other thinking such as just photoshopping images or camera
The most important thing now is getting a better understanding of camera work
and that can be done through practice. Maybe getting someone two has more
expertise on that side to teach me a few things that are important. The first time I
had used Photoshop was when I came to college. Now after having doing this
course for two years. I can successfully say that I know quite a lot about the skills of
Photoshop. Now having gained that knowledge. I want to say I can do the same
photography. As for improving my Photoshop work. I don’t know how. I'm just
going to have to look deeper into the different things that could be experimented
with. Perhaps looks at tutorials on YouTube and see if there's a few complicated
7. In 5 years time I will…
Hopefully be working for a media company in the right mind set and optimistic about where my
career path is going. As for who or what that company is. Is the question. My plan is stay a little
further in education, so I can learn all the requirements that are needed for that area of work.
Where that will take me whilst I am currently in education is unknown. Companies can show
interest and send out offers if you promote the work you are doing enough. This is not a definite
chance. Meaning that you really have to sell yourself and rely on word of mouth. I hope that in 5
years time I will have finished my university course and will be doing more professional work. I
hope that in five years time I will have gained the skills and the knowledge that will be needed for
me to find this as a profession. My main hope is that in five years time. I will have settled down
a job that has a link to what it is I want to do in the future. Now whilst my dream job is to become
director. Anything that links to the media world would be appealing to me when facing a job in
five years time. It could be involved with advertising for a company or an assistant that is going to
give me more experience from some who is on a higher ground of that profession. One key
important factor to focus on when it comes to future thinking. Is thinking about how impressive
CV may appear when I have done media at university and had a few extra media jobs on the
In five years time this is what my CV will look like. A major difference and improvement as to how
it looks currently. Hopefully through putting myself out there I will have better understanding of
the media world and will be seen as more recognisable to a few companies. Whether they are
public or private sectors isn’t important. The important thing is where the companies that are
offering placement will be able to take me and will it really be making an huge impact on my life
take a certain job offer.
