2. What are you currently doing to pursue a career in your chosen field?
Currently I am studying Level 3 Media Production in College, and hope to study for another year before university.
In the course, I have completed mini 5 week projects in Print and Magazine work, Music Video Production, Video
Game Concept and Production, and also an Audio Play exploring Foley Sound. I am also currently working on my
Final Major Project (FMP), where I am exploring perfume advertisements, to create my own marketing project for
my own perfume brand.
3. What do you plan to do next in the pursuit of your chosen field?
After I have completed my course in college, I hope to go immediately onto University, to study further media
production and gain more experience. I think currently, I would like to work in production for TV more than for
Film, as TV is more easily accessible, however I think it could be a stepping stone to potentially working on bigger
productions like feature films.
4. Select at least three potential University courses that would help you further your career aims. You should state
what the course is, which university it is run by, the entry requirements and why you think it would help you.

5. What type of work experience do you think you would need to help you in your future career? How might you
be able to find work experience placements? If you could pick anywhere to do work experience, where would it
be and why?
I think for the career I want to go into, experience is really important, and I would like to do some work experience
maybe in the summer before university, and also during holiday time as university. I think the experience I would
need would really need to be on a set, shadowing people such as camera men, directors and other mangment
rolls. I learn well be observing what others are doing, so I think that would be a good place for me. As of how I
would find that work experience, I could look online at different production companies and enquire about unpaid
work or asking if I could shadow some of their productions, and I could also look at paid weekend courses to get
some experience working on smaller projects with new people. Also through my university courses, I hope to
make connections with people working in the industry and I could enquire to them about observing and unpaid
working days where I could join.
I think if there was anywhere I could get work experience, I would love to be able to work at the BBC in house and
seeing the insides and out of what a working day would entail there and how I could prepare myself for a job like
that, or on a film set as a runner or just as an observer learning the way production works.
6. What specific skills do you need to develop? There should be a mix of industry specific skills and also personal
development points. When you identify these, come up with suggestions as to how you might make those
improvements.
I think I need to work on my management skills, and the way I take information and translate it to what I need to
do, as on a set or in a stressful environment, it is important that I know what I am doing, and can take instruction
and execute it swiftly and well. I think for my industry skills, I need to work on my camera skills, as sometimes
when filming my camera movements and the composition in them can look sloppy. Also looking at the smaller
details like where things are places in a scene, making sure everything comes together nicely and is executed well.
I also have a tendency to rush certain things, such as print work, so I need to improve on taking my time and
evaluating my work as I go to improve it and fix things that I have the opportunity to in that moment. I don’t really
see myself as a leader, and I feel unconfident in important top tier rolls, so I need to improve my confidence in
that area, for when I start doing bigger projects that involve more people, and be ready for projects in university
and outside of it.
7. In 5 years time I will…
Depending on the university course that I choose and depending on if it is 4 years or 3 years, will either be in my
final year of university, I may be studying abroad for the year, again depending on the course I choose, making
oversea connections for my future projects and career, and possibly learning a new language at base level, making
me more attractive to future employers, and also giving me some new personal and cultural skills and knowledge.
Or, if I have left university, I hope to be in a job or internship working for a TV company such as the BBC, ITV or
channel 4 either in their production department, working on set or in post production, or in a roll that allows me
to widen my career opportunity's within other aspects of media such as journalism. I think the reason why I am
leaning more towards TV, is because these companies tend to be large and are always producing new content,
such as reality TV, drama etc, and I think having that wide variety of permanent and temporary TV makes the idea
of getting a job with one of them feel more safe, and more realistic than going into a film production role straight
away, although that would be amazing. There are also more chances to go up the ladder and have the chance to
begin and end somewhere totally different. The idea of working freelance is also quite nerve wracking for me, as I
prefer to work with other people and have a good support network of colleagues and more networking
opportunities than if I were working for myself and by myself
