EVALUATION
RESEARCH
Research was the key factor that positively influenced my
planning as well as production process. Through my
research process I have watched reference products,
observed techniques and conventions that are typical for
the genre and might be helpful in the creation of my own
music video.
Although I found this stage very beneficial, in perspective,
If I explored more music videos genres it would help me
make my music video a little more creative and individual.
Music videos I have researched mainly focused on
cinematic shots, often sacrificed narrative for the visuals.
If given a chance of doing the project again, I would look
into narrative based music videos and tried to produce a
similar product.
PLANNING
The biggest strength and the most beneficial part of my
planning is the brief storyboard I have produced in order
to prepare myself for shooting. Although many of
planned shots were removed/ changed during the actual
shooting, the storyboard was still a massive help. It gave
me an idea of what I need to film and where I will locate
the taken shot when editing.
The mind map was also very beneficial in the planning
process. It gave me a chance of exploring themes and
ideas I ended up featuring in my final product,.
If given a chance of re-doing the whole project, I would
focus on creating a better storyboard, one wit more
details and more potential shots. Although the one I
worked with this time acted as a core of my production
process, I feel it could be a much bigger help if more
polished.
TIME MANAGEMENT
When it comes to the time management, I think I have
managed to organise everything well, but there’s still
room for improvement.
I wish I did no spend that much time on planning, but
more on actual production. Although the process of
planning was crucial, I have spent too much time
contemplating about my options when it was not that
necessary.
As a result of postponing production, I feel like some of
the parts of my filming/editing were rushed. I did not get
enough time to organise filming of a certain sequence,
purely because the actress was not available. I see it as a
mistake on my side as I did not give her time in advance
to plan the shooting.
I’m also convinced that, if given more time, I would
explore more editing techniques and re-do certain
TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
Skrillex & Damian "Jr. Gong"
Marley - Make It Bun Dem
When it comes to the camerawork featured in my
music video production, I was primarily focused on
featuring medium long shots of actors, often
appearing centrally in the picture rather than on the
sides of it. I have done so, in order to capture the
essence of spontaneous, unlimited joy the
characters get from dancing. The way my character
has been filmed makes them appear like they are on
their own, adding to the feeling of freedom and
intimacy, just like in ‘Make I Bun Dem’ and ‘Weapon
Of choice’ music videos.
My music video Fatboy Slim ft. Bootsy Collins - Weapon Of Choice
TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
When editing my
video, I have mainly
focused on how I
could possibly make
the dancing
sequences look more
interesting to watch, I
have taken inspiration
from the music video
to 'Make It Bun Dem'.
Just like in the
reference product, I
have used the slow-
motion effect. This
made the footage
more appealing, as
well as easier to edit.
AUDIENCE APPEAL
You could say that my music
video has one protagonist,
that being the teenage boy
who appears walking around
college and dancing outside.
The fact I have featured a
person of the same age as my
target audience is the key
part of my audience appeal
factor. However, I have also
made sure to include
character of another ages, as
this can easily expand the
targeted audience. All age
groups featured in my
product are connected by
dancing, making them

FEEDBACK
FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
• I liked the idea of featuring dancing that contrasts wit everyday-life
• Really good editing, it fits the pacing and dops of the music.
• Slow motion dance looks professional and really complements the
music
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
•I think the product would be better if more characters were featured
•I don’t understand the meaning behind shots of toys and record
players
FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
• I really enjoyed the theme of family connection through
dance
•Slow-motion shots look good
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• some of the featured takes look odd in comparison to
others: change in light and quality of the footage
•The shot of a woman’s back is blurred, not focused on
the right object
FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
 I enjoyed the vast selection of locations that were included in the
product. It helped keep each segment fresh and contributed to what
felt like a larger narrative.
 I enjoyed the variety of shots included and the way that the shots
were edited together to keep coherence between them but also keep
them random enough to leave the meaning ambiguous.
 I enjoyed the use of colour and lighting. It also added greater
variation to the piece and kept it fresh from itself all the way through
to the end.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
 If you were to do it again, I would recommend having some of the
shots locked off or using a tripod. The shots being shaky sometimes
made it feel a little unprofessional.
 I would also say to gather multiple of one shot so that you could get
the one that looks the best out of them all and use that in the final
product.
 I would also maybe have some more lip syncing or interaction with
PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I most definitely agree with most criticism my product
received. Most feedback raised some valid points regarding
the quality of my production.
Theme of a family connection is an odea I was happy with; I
am also proud of how well my editing matched the song
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
In honesty, the only bit of feedback I disagree with is the
suggestion of adding lip-sync sequences in my future
project. Although I have nothing against using footage like
that, I feel like this level of product-viewer connection is not
what I was going for in this music video.
PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
If given a second chance of redoing the whole project, I would listen
to the feedback given to me, starting with the use of tripod as a way
of making my footage less shaky. Although I used a tripod to film
sone of the shoots, I would make sure to have it with me at all
times.
I would also make sure to set up focus for the shots so all of them
are as clear and well-looking as possible. I would also try not to rush
the process of filming as much as I did, gathering as much footage
as possible would be my key priority.
Additionally, I would try to think about better lit locations, some of
the ones I used in my project were unfortunately too dark.
