2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have completed the
slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.
3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you
changed your video? How/why?
4. 1) When it came to lip syncing, I got the actor to play the song and say the
lyrics out loud so that I would match perfectly with the song
2) I believe that my locations worked very well as it matched up with the
music and the speed of the song, I didn't have any problems with recording
the places I choose and regarding the weather it didn't matter much as I had
back up plans for this as I had locations that were under cover from the rain
3) my actors did let me down as the first day of recording the actor wasn't
interested in the song so they wasn't bothered how it turned out and I didn't
get enough footage and he was unavailable again so I asked someone else
and they couldn't make it on the day, so I didn't get half the footage I wanted
so I had to duplicate my clips
4) I think my planning was very good as I co-ordinated the lyrics to the
places and I then matched up the places and then I put them into columns
so I could see the place names and the lyrics that I was going to be taking
there and it helped significantly with the production
5) in the planning stages I did change my song and this took some time to
go back and change the planning I changed it because I had a better idea for
another video type so I did that one, if I was to do it again, I would make sure
that I get actors that are interested in the music and are willing to do it
5. TECHNICAL
For the shooting of my music video, I used my camera as I
could get a good picture with it and also lets me experiment
with it, however this did die on my halfway through the
batteries that I needed for my camera. This took valuable
time out of my production.
6. LOGISTICAL
My locations worked very well as they turned out exactly how
I wanted however if I got the chance to do it again, I would
change some of the shots that I did in the day like one I
would have taken when it was sunrise as this would have
given me a better shot with the colour change. I did have
backup location in case it rained as these places were
undercover and I still got the same shots that I wanted.
7. PERSONNEL
The cast of my music video were helpful from start to finish,
they helped me to get the shots I needed and were willing to
do what they needed to do to make the music video look
right, and at some points even suggested what we could do
to get better looking videos.
8. PLANNING
The planning of my music video helped me with the filming,
especially the shot list, without this I would not have been
able to get so many shots as I did for the video, for example
it would have been difficult already being out filming and
then having to decide what looks right.
If I were to do the planning again, I would have planned didn’t
camera angles to see if I can get a different effect or to
change the lighting on some of the shots to make it look
more proffesional.
9. EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in
this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc
where possible
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment
• Pick notable moments in the editing process and discuss
them, what worked/didn’t work and why, how you adjusted
to problems. Discuss how you worked and what you
learned from the process
10. WHAT WENT WELL
[3 EXAMPLES]
I thought that the camera angles worked very well as I got to
capture everything, I wanted the audience to see and I could
get their attention on something I wanted them to see or hear
When editing I thought this went very well as I got clean
transitions and nice colour editing to brighten up the video
and to make it more eye catching
My locations worked very well as it fitted with the song that I
was using, and I didn't have to worry about permission at the
places I used or the weather as it ddin't effect my location
choice
11. WHAT PROBLEMS DID
YOU HAVE? [3
EXAMPLES]
One of the problems was that my actors wasn't interested in
the music video so they didn't try, and you can tell when
watching the video as the video as they were unwilling to
take more clips
Another problem was that my camera ran out of batteries this
required me to look for a shop that selled the batteries that I
need to use the camera this was bad as it consumed majority
of my production time
I had to take a lot of retakes when shooting my shots as the
actor kept forgetting the lines and this drained my camera
battery even quicker
12. NEXT STEPS…
What are the main things you’ve learned from this project?
Pick a minimum of 5 to discuss…
How to use different camera angles and their effects on the
audience as it makes the product look more professional and
interacting
How to essentially time map the lyrics up with the video, this was a
challenge that had to be done in order for it to look good quality and
more eye catching
That planning your product is very important as it's a useful guide
on what you need to do and what is happening in that scene
To have more than one backup actor to do the product in case
something happens to the original one or in case they can't make it
or something
To have a time plan or something to make sure that I have enough
time to complete work as I got overwhealmed by the work and the
time period I had to complete it
