INTRODUCTION
 In this project, We have shown how to make a motion
sensor light switch using the CD4017 IC and IR proximity
sensor.
 We can use this motion activated light circuit as an
automatic room light switch.
 We have not used any microcontroller or Arduino for this
CD4017 project.
 Each time the IR proximity sensor sense detects any
motion, it send the clock pulse to CD4017 IC. Then the
4017 changes it’s previous state.
LITRETURE SURVEY
• Soyoung Hwang et al. proposed a remote monitoring and
controlling system which is based on zigbee networks.
Realtime monitoring is implemented with JMF. It is a
multimedia extension API of java..
• Richu Sam Alex et al. proposed a system which reduces the
power consumption of the street lighting system about30%
compared to conventional design. This system is fully
automated. It also uses Zigbee so that control station can also
analyze all the performances of the system.
• Daeho Kim et al. worked on smart LED lighting system by
using Infrared and Ultrasonic sensors together. Here they
proposed a model which continuously tracks the human
motion. Output based on the human tracking data which is
obtained by these sensors are responsible for determining the
On-Off control of the lights.
OBJECTIVES
 To lower electricity wastage and as well as light’s life time.
 To enhance safety of children and mentally retarded people.
 To enhance safety from infectious diseases.
METHODOLOGY
• The IR emitter LED continuously emits infrared.
When any object comes within the range, some
amount of infrared reflects from the object surface
and that reflected infrared can be detected by the IR
receiver LED.
• The LM358 compares the voltage across the IR
receiver LED with the predefined value. When any
motion detected the voltage across the IR receiver
crosses the predefined value, so the output pin (pin
1) of LM358 becomes high.
• The clock pin (Pin-14) of CD4017 IC is connected
with the output pin of LM358. So when any motion
detected, the 4017 IC receives a clock pulse and
CONTINUED-
• The Pin-2 of CD4017 is connected with the base of
the BC547 NPN transistor, So when the Pin-2
becomes high the transistor turns on.
• When the transistor turns on, the current can flow
through the relay coil. So the load connected with the
relay also turns on.
• When the IR LEDS detecs any motion second time, it
sends the next clock pulse to CD4017 IC. Then the
Pin-2 becomes low
• . If the Pin-2 becomes low, the transistor turns off and

ADVANTAGES
• Simple to Install
• Energy saving
• Ecofriendly
• Long life span
• Low budget
DISADVANTAGES
• It cannot withstand voltage above 1000V.
• Sensor can detect human being within approximate 10
meter range.
• Luminaires may burn out.
APPLICATIONS
• It can be used in washroom lights to switch on and off automatically.
• It can be used in Educational Institutions, MNC’s, Hospitals, Hotels and
Restaurants etc.
• It is very useful for blind peoples and also for mentally retarded.
• It is suitable for installing in Public Toilets to avoid infectious diseases.
• It is used to in detecting microwaves, it measures the reflection/shadow of the
moving objects.
• It is also can use in the home appliances like AC, fan etc to reduce electricity
bill.
RESULTS
CONCLUSION
 The project constructed and implemented with lightning module.it can detect
motion and then sensor senses the motion and actuate the lightning to work to
maximum intensity.
 The results shows that the implemented module is functional and proposed
system can be useful for energy saving purpose.
