INTRODUCTION
Saving power is very important ,instead of using the power in unnecessary times it
should be switched off.
In any city “STREET LIGHT” is one of the major power consuming factors. Most of
the time we see streetlights are on even after sunrise thus wasting lot of energy.
Over here we are avoiding the problem by having an automatic system.
our project is to control the switching of Street Lights automatically.
PIR’s will detect the motion and then light will glow with high intensity
MOTIVATION
 The energy sources in the world are decreasing rapidly and there
 Is large energy consumption in street without benefit ,so we
should find way to reduce the losses
 Controlling the street light using the circuit is very useful method
to save and reduce the power consumption add to this it is a very
cheap method
OBJECTIVE
 To design an automatic streetlight that works in conventional Energy
resources
 Reducing the wastage of power
Reducing physical efforts
 Improve the system in our daily life
LITERATURE SURVEY
Richu Sam Alex et al.[2] proposed system which reduce the power consumption of the street
light system about 30% compared to older design. This system is fully automated. It also uses
Zigbee so that control station also analyze all the performance of the system.
Daeho Kim et al.[3] worked on smart LED light system by using Infrared and Ultrasonic sensor.
They proposed a model which continuously track human motion. Output based on human
tracking data which is obtained by these sensor are responsible for determining the On-Off
control of the LED light. Existing system fails in continuously monitoring the motion of object by
using each sensors separately. For same reason, the efficiency of existing system is low. By the
hardware implementation they developed a model to improve the efficiency which helps in
smart light. The proposed approach make use of sensors in which PIR sensor sends the sensed
data to the MCU board which in turn send the same data to the LED control layer.
COMPONENTS USED
1. Arduino
2. PIR sensor
3. LDR sensor
4. 16X2 lcd
5. Potentiometer
6. Resistors
7. Bread board
8. Bulb
9. Connecting wires
METHODOLOGY
 The working of the project can be clearly explained by considering the street lights.
 The main aim of the project is to automatic switch ON/OFF the street light by sensing the vehicle and
also project check the amount of light and street light is turned on and off.
 LDR sensor is used to detect intensity of light
 In this project PIR sensor are used for sensing the vehicles.
 Initially the street lights are in OFF state by using the LDR’S.
 As the PIR senses the vehicle the street lights associated w.r.t that sensor will switch ON and OFF after
certain time

RESULT
The main idea of this project is to reduce the wastage of electricity.
 For this purpose PIR’s and LDR’s are used as sensors.
 The street light corresponding to that PIR will switch-ON
automatically when a vehicle passes and through LDR it will
automatically turn ON and OFF during day and night
ADVANTAGES
• No man power required.
• Simple Construction.
• Efficient method.
• Less Consumption of electrical energy.
• Cheap and economical.
APPLICATIONS
•Parking Lightings
• Street Lights
•Garden Lights
•Highways
CONCLUSION
o Can reduce the wastage of electricity.
o This Arduino based project will provide a competent method for lighting systems and make the whole process
of energy saving easier and efficient.
o With a capability to change the amount of light emitted depending upon the outside condition is no doubt an
innovation with many future application apart from the fact that it can also be used in many present day tech
such as street light, park lights, industrial lights and many more.
o The usage of the smart lighting system will undoubtedly change the world that we see today
