General Motors, Jpy-Usd Exposure

General Motors, JPY USD Exposure
Executive Summary
General Motors Corporation, the world s largest automaker, has an extensive global outreach, which
places the firm in competition with automakers worldwide, and subjects itself to significant exchange
rate exposure. In particular, despite most of its revenues and production being derived from North
America, depreciating yen rates pose problems for the firm indirectly through economic exposure.
While GM possesses passive hedging strategies for balance sheet and income statement exposures,
management has not yet quantified or recognized solutions to possible losses from the indirect
competitive exposure it now shared with Japanese automakers in the U.S import ... Show more content

dollars. Having appreciating USD in their assets column, with depreciating yen in their liabilities
column, this has lowered cost structure and expanded profit margins for firms such as Nissan, Honda
and Toyota. Now, these automakers are able to pass on their reduced costs to consumers via sticker
price reductions between 15 45% of cost savings, or through added incentives. According to Exhibit 6,
as of 2000, per vehicle incentives of GM ($1,969) far exceeds those of Toyota and Honda, at $725 and
664, respectively; this competitive advantage GM currently holds, as well as its relative market share
in the U.S., are endangered if Japanese firms choose to move their incentive values closer to the
industry average. Looking into the competitive threat more closely, the auto industry in the United
States is rather sensitive to price, with a price elasticity of 2, or a 5% increase in price contributing to a
subsequent 10% fall in demand. Thus, based upon the sticker price decreases potentially implemented
by Japanese automakers, Japanese companies combined market share (roughly 4.1m units in 2000)
stands to increase substantially, and could eat into General Motors overall market share. To highlight
the sensitivity to the USD JPY spot exchange rate, GM s VP of Finance, Eric Feldstein, suggests that
just a one yen depreciation increases competitors operating profit by $400m. With $900m in net yen
receivables, $500m in outstanding yen denominated bonds, and more

In The Waiting Room Elizabeth Bishop
The poem, In the Waiting Room shown within Elizabeth Bishop s book The Complete Poems 1927
1979 is an engaging and descriptive poem about a child s self coming into adulthood. Elizabeth, the
child, narrates the story from her point of view, reading the National Geographic while waiting for
Aunt Consuelo to be finished with her appointment. The National Geographic however, is a gateway
which portrays Elizabeth s adult side, showing her as a child what is to come as she grows older. Aunt
Consuelo and those within the waiting room during the time when Elizabeth looks around adds on to
this point, making her ask more questions about her own name, as well as her becoming like her Aunt.
Which started with her picking up and flipping through, the yellow margins of the National
Geographic.
The idea behind the book National Geographic is to transport the reader into a location that they have
not been too. For this poem however, it transports Elizabeth to her being an adult. Showing her what is
to come with adulthood, Babies with pointed heads wound round and round with string; black, naked
women with necks wound round and round with wire like the necks of light bulbs. Their breasts were
horrifying (26 31) Elizabeth is horrified with what she sees as clearly stated, she does not wish to
become an adult. To be given these breasts, or even the experience of a child. But since she was too
scared to stop she kept reading till she heard her Aunt.

Adam Smith Division Of Labor Summary
Ans1.
Starting with Smith, he identified and analyzed the causes in the improvement of the productive
powers of laborers. He defines the division of labor as a process by which an operation is divided into
several sub operations, each of which is carried out by a different person. There is strong emphasis on
the fact that division of labor increases the worker s skill and efficiency. Smith believed there is a
cumulative mechanism that operates in a capitalist system which proceeds in the following sequence
of events: division of labor increase in the size of the markets increase in productivity of labor: a real
cycle of growth.
Moving forward, Smith s contribution to explaining the value of goods, but did not give rise to a
theory of value. His starting point was to recognize that the structure of a productive process can be
represented in terms of the series of quantities of labor employed to produce the goods. He
emphasized on the fact that raw material for one labor process is also a product of someone s else
labour. Hence ,quoting Adam Smith , Labor, therefore, is the real measure of the exchangeable value
of all commodities. The real price of everything, what everything really costs to the man who wants to
acquire it, is the toil and trouble of acquiring it . The deduction we can draw from this fact is that, for
any good or service to have value it must be produced by human labor. He went on to infer that any
potential buyer of a good or service will value the

Russian Revolution After World War I Essay
For many revolutions people may argue different reasons why that particular revolution was caused,
but there often one that is the primary cause. The Russian Revolution began February 1917, many
people in Russia lost faith in their government, especially since they had not done so well to begin
with when they participated in World War I. Which resulted in a lot of expenses. Others may argue
that since Tsar was an unproductive leader and because of the decisions he made when he was in
power that influenced the Russian Revolution. Although Tsar s weak leadership may have influenced
the Russian Revolution, World War I was the main cause of the Russian Revolution because it
destroyed the economy, which led to riots and many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Russia struggled to provide food for its populations. Citizens took control into their own hands,
Ludovic Naudeau wrote in October 1917, One morning recently I was awakened by the cries of my
neighbor in the next room. His boots had been stolen. The same day the manager of a newspaper
office told me that he had been robbed six of pairs of pantaloons, ... Four hundred thefts every night!
he cried; that is the average for the last two weeks, (One Aspect of Bolshevist Liberty). Russia could
not even uphold itself because the economy was not successful compared to other countries. This led
people to desire a change in the government; therefore this led to the Russian Revolution. People went
to different maters to get what they wanted such as stealing since they were not getting the aid that
they needed and they needed financial support. This caused them to protest against their government
because many people from the lower class could not take care of their families. This cause led to a
greater impact compared to Tsarist weak authority. Some may argue Tsar Nicholas weak leadership
help contributes to the Russian Revolution but World War I was be the primary cause. Tsar Nicholas
was not the best leader but that did not have a big enough impact to cause the Russia Revolution
because his actions did not lead to as many problems that World War I had caused. World War I had a
greater impact because it led to many problems within Russia that caused the citizens to be furious.

Social And Cultural Change Prompted
Social and Cultural Change Prompted by Technology
Textile, steam, and metallurgy based innovations amounted to a legacy in Britain and a precedent for
future industrial revolutions for other countries. As urbanization became a phenomenon in Britain,
people migrated to the city centers in an effort to find employment and waged labor. New
technological advancements, during Britain s Industrial Revolution, prompted change in society and
culture. The increased demand for British goods resulted in merchants needed more cost effective
methods of production, which led to the rise of mechanization and the factory system. The separation
of social classes and labor was one major effect of the inventions. Also, women and children were the
new solution for long, hard hours and lower pay. Cultural changes were a direct result of this increase
in technological developments, reshaping familial relations and daily life, while leaving an
agriculturally based culture.
The most important change in society and societal views, that resulted from new technology in
everyday life, was a larger separation in classes and wages. As technology emerged, a new class
system followed. Before the industrial revolution, the average lifespan was higher, the economy was
stimulated by agriculture, and, above all, there was little division in social class and labor. With small
scale productions, the agricultural sector was self sufficient. However, as more people flocked to the
cities in search of employment in

Why Teenagers Should Start Later Essay
Imagine this, it s 10:30 p.m. and you are walking down the street when a cop approaches you. The
next thing you know you re in big trouble for being on the streets after 10:00 p.m. Don t like the sound
of that do you? My city council is considering a curfew that would make it illegal for teenagers to be
out on the streets after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and after midnight on weekends. I disagree with this
consideration because teenagers may have to work late, they could be in danger, or there could be an
emergency.
First of all, some teenagers end up working late at night and can t help that. Working night shift causes
teenagers to get home late. Most teenagers don t have a car, so they walk to and from work. If there is
a curfew it will get the

The Common Pattern Of Alternating Extinctions And Radiations
Extinctions and Radiations

The common pattern of alternating extinctions and radiations has been done through biodiversity
studies which studies the different organisms of species living on earth and where they live. In Stilwell
(2003) journal, Palaeocene faunas are characterized by a perceived rapid evolutionary radiation
involving many new taxa at both genus and species level. Stilwell stated Molluscs living at the
beginning of tertiary period after the K T extinction event was the beginning of modern fauna. There
was research that saw the decimation of scores of marine organisms. Mollusc groups were mentioned
(e.g. Ammonites, Belemnites Rudistid and Trigoniid Bivalves), (Stilwell, 2003).
In Stilwell s research journal, Austral Palaeocene Molluscs focuses on the composition of faunas and
patterns of evolution, it shows diversity and riches. The Southern Hemisphere show the break up of
Supercontinent Gondwana and also changes in oceanic circulation and climate. In the northern
Hemisphere shows major diversity changes in the Marine Realm.
In a journal written by Racki, it was mentioned, with the enlargement and nitrification most likely will
lead to the loss of deep water niches and step by step siliceous faunas go through severe non selective
losses during the end Permian mass extinction, (Racki, 1999). All because of sudden volcanic winter

Business Challenges Of The Salon
After identifying the business challenges, analyzing them, below are solutions recommended for the
three business functional areas.
Marketing:
It is recommended that The Salon establishes its presence in social media like Facebook. The Salon
can use this media for its marketing. furthermore, it is used to establish the connection between The
Salon and its customers. It is also used to build the customers loyalty. Similarly, The Salon s Facebook
page can also be used as a means to gather customers feedback and measure how satisfied customers
are; and therefore creates needed action items to improve the business.
It is also recommended that The Salon establishes its presence in Yelp, which is the top website for
business review. Through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is recommended that The Salon creates new services that differentiate from the competitors. If The
Salon has better services that customers perceive more valuable and creates more satisfaction than
competitors, The Salon may be able to set higher prices without fearing losing customers. Specifically,
The Salon should create different levels for any service if possible. For example, for pedicure, it
should create three or four levels such as basic, deluxe, elite with the price and margin increases as the
level increases. The increase can be justified because the high level of service offers more,e.g. the elite
pedicure has hot rock massage on feets while the others do not. In another way to differentiate is to
increase the value offered in the service, for example, offering free toe nail art/design when customers
have both manicure and pedicure services.
By the same token. it is recommended that The Salon creates service bundles that are compelling to
customers and perceived as good value. The bundles would create differentiation that helps The Salon
stand above the competitors. Better differentiation would allow attract more customers and The Salon
can set a higher profit margin without fear of competition of the identical service. One example of
bundling services is the top to bottom bundle that includes eyebrow lip waxing, manicure, and
pedicure with a price that less than if individual service is performed separately.
Human resource:
To overcome the mismatch

Themes Of Shall We Dance
The movie Shall we dance is about Shohei Sugiyama who was a successful Japanese salaryman who
worked at an accountant firm in Tokyo. Mr. Sugiyama had a beautiful house, a successful job, a
devoted wife, and a teenage daughter. Despite these accomplishments, Mr. Sugiyama is not happy and
his family notices when he comes home late at night depressed. Modernization has forced him into a
job that he isn t happy at. Modernization and Westernization have forced him to buy a house, get
married, and have a kid those ideals represent the modern Japanese society. In a clash between
traditional roles and modern roles in Japanese society Mr. Sugiyama is conflicted. Mr. Sugiyama in
traditional times would embrace whatever passions he had. Poetry, dancing, shopping, whatever that

Sugiyama would probably be a peasant or a samurai. However, modern times have forced him to get
an 8 hour job. Shall we dance offers its viewers the realization that sometimes having fun is finding
something you like and embracing it. Dancing offers an outlet from the stress of the modern world and
Mr. Sugiyama s life becomes happier when he dances. He gets his family involved and they find
happiness because he is happy. The theme of the movie is work versus play. Modern society forces
men to work while traditional society fun was more important than work. The affection he displayed
when dancing was absent in his everyday life. He was not excited to work, but excited to dance. He
was serious when it came to work and his family, but when he began to dance he began to see the fun
in life. Dancing enabled Mr. Sugiyama to be in harmony with nature as were men in harmony with
nature in traditional society. The movie s purpose was to inspire people not to take their life so
seriously and to find the fun in life. We only live once, and we should be more interconnected with our
inner beings instead of worried about our jobs and being

Negative Issues In Social Media
Social media has introduced a new dimension to struggles and trivial struggles for private spaces and
personal expression. Teenagers do not want parents to see their profile on the web or check them while
chatting with friends. Parents are no longer worried only for what their children are wearing out of the
house, but also for the clothes they are photographed in the room to publish their photos. First
invisible interactions with adults suddenly leave traces, pushing parents to worry about conversations
they consider inappropriate or when adolescents share too much .
The attendance and use of the social media in recent years has become a global phenomenon. Young
and old spend many hours of their day on social media. The growing interest in the Social media, in
addition to its great benefits, is creating concerns about the potential consequences for the real life of
adolescents. But who are these digital natives? The term Native Digital indicates young people born
since the mid 1990s who have always lived through the Internet and the new media, and have the
following features: A fluid identity, which in some cases accompanies emotional illiteracy; New
modes of relationship, even affective, which have in their social media their center; The loss of the
concept of privacy, with all the advantages and disadvantages of the case; The ability to use the new
media to enhance their social identity and group creativity (Prensky, 2001).

The Primordial Soup Hypothesis
All of these hypotheses are similar and different in many ways. They were all similar in the way that
they revealed many possible ways of how the world started. They were all different, because they
were all different theories of how biomolecules came to be. As technology continues to evolve along
with the world many new ideas of how biomolecules came to be are sure to come up. This helps
increase out knowledge of the world and how it came to be.
The first of the biomolecule hypotheses was the Primordial Soup Hypothesis. The theory of the
Primordial Soup Hypothesis was that, life began in a body of water due to a mix of chemicals in the
atmosphere and a type of energy from amino acids. The scientists ... Show more content on

In 1977, scientists found biological life forms surviving around the sea floor. This suggested the
possibility that the vents provided biological life with the things they needed in order to survive. They
that suggested methanethiol (sulfur containing carbon compound) was the starter dough from which
all life emerged. The first people to test this hypothesis was geochemists, Eoghan Reeves, Jeff
Seewald, and Jill McDermott. They went to the hydrothermal vent sites, there they predicted that they
would find abundant methanethiol, their results had surprised them. Reeves said that their claim from
before was false, What we essentially found in our survey is that we don t think methanethiol is
forming by purely chemical means without the involvement of life. However, the scientists still
believe that hydrothermal vents are a great environment for new life to emerge.
The fourth of the biomolecule hypotheses was the RNA World Hypothesis. The RNA World
Hypothesis was proposed by Francis Crick in 1967. The hypothesis was that life begins with self
replicating RNA molecules. According to Crick s hypothesis genetic information is stored by RNA
and the RNA catalyzed the chemical reactions in primitive cells. However, later in time DNA took
over as genetic material and proteins became the structural components of cells. RNA still catalyzes
several reactions in modern day cells, which can be viewed as molecular fossils of an entire

can pinpoint opportunities I would not have missed had I understood earlier in my career just the
importance of knowing my audience when presenting a researched business proposal and that is only
one thing I learned here.
Every single article since Haas and Flower generated even more understanding and enthusiasm
because I could relate to something in subsequent texts in some tangible way. In understanding that I

The Population Profile Of Australia
The population profile of Australia has created impacting changes to how health care in Australia is to
be delivered in the near future (Charlesworth, 2015). High rates of obesity, diabetes, heart diseases and
poor life style choices such as smoking, alcohol and substance abuse, add to an existing crisis that
imposes more pressure on an overworked healthcare system (Willcox, 2014).
Future challenges for health industry leaders are to develop strategies, for delivery of inclusive and

Clients with complex needs could be left to navigate the health care system on their own, due to
limited resources and over stretched health workforce (Charlesworth, 2015). The World Health
Organisation (WHO) has reported that many chronic diseases such as stroke, diabetes and heart
disease are preventable, creating a vast potential to develop a primary healthcare approach to address
these issues (World Health Organisation, 2013). Studies indicate that Australian indigenous
populations are over represented suffering with chronic diseases (Usher, 2011). In rural Indigenous
communities, the life expectancy is ten years less than the non indigenous populations, expressing the
inequity of a health system that cannot supply the skill share needed to promote health access or
provide comprehensive care to rural areas of Australia (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare,
2016).
Indigenous and Age related, Chronic and acute health issues within the rural communities are
intensified, and as workforce demand is not supported adequately on remote placements, the training
needed to support such placements, pinpoint that the personnel to population ratio is not sufficient.

Norman an interest case study to analyze both from an operations point of view as well as strategic.
Furthermore, given the challenging market conditions in 2008 and 2009, it would be interesting to
analyze how Harvey Norman responded to the economic downturn. The company observed a
significant improvement in net profit from underlying business operations during the last 6 months of
FY2009 , according to Harvey Norman s 2009 Annual Report. It would be insightful to see what

Mayan Painting Artist At Bonampak
Scott Castruita Art Appreciation Deborah Gustlin Dec 8, 2014 Mayan Mural Painter at Bonampak My
name is Scott Castruita and I live in Gilroy and I am 26 years old. Being an art student, I have learned
that artist reflect certain aspects of their community while preparing any artistic product. This trend
has been in existence for a long time ever since the discovery of art in ancient communities. However,
I must admit that most of us in the modern communities do not appreciate art to the extent that it
deserves. In order to understand and appreciate art, people must have knowledge of its place in time.
As such, I took an initiative of unraveling the Mayan Mural Painter at Bonampak by investigating
various aspects of the Maya community in order to understand their art. In my research, I have
discovered that the Maya people represent some of the most renowned communities in relation to
culture and artistic expressions. Living in the southern Mexico and northern Central America, the
Maya people consist of group of communities with shared cultural values and heritage (Smithsonian
National Museum of the American Indian 1). Considering the close relation of communities
comprising the Maya people, patterns of widely acceptable practices can be easily identified hence the
community culture. In my research, I have learned that there is close relations between cultural values
exhibited by the community and the artistic expressions. It is for this reason that most artifacts

Disadvantages And Disadvantage Of Technology
Nowadays, technology takes over the world as penetrate through human life. The biggest effects
would be teenagers as they use technology more often. The technology impacts the family
environment, social relationships with people; health of people that do not have rational use of
technology, creativity, and focus.
The first reason will cause lack of communication with the people as electronic devices had replaced
the existence of human relationship bond. It caused teenagers to be isolated at home as they feel like
on the phone, as to an example, they can hear each other through a group chat. So, there is no need a
gathering event be created. When technology had become advanced, there are machines created like
treadmill and jogging bicycle. This allows the teenagers to become lazy to go out and instead they
exercise at home. On the other hand, it causes less interaction with people. Nowadays, most of the
parents are busy with their work and buying teenagers video games. This type of devices helps the
teenagers to have the feeling that their parents still care about them, but this actually pulls the distance
away between them. Their parents actually neglect them, and this causes them to consume more time
on playing the game. The times spending with family are lesser than the time of playing games.

Essay about The Flight Path of Airplanes Over Neighborhoods
The Flight Path of Airplanes Over Neighborhoods The houses can t be unbuilt, and the airports can t
be torn down. But maybe the fences can be mended. Robbie Sherwood In the past 10 years, many
cities across the country have outgrown the planner s expectations. Unfortunately the airports that
were built 20 or more years ago, have not grown with the cities. Phoenix has tripled in size in the past
10 years. The tripling of air traffic has not had anywhere to go. The same two runways that have been
serving the city since 1935 when the airport was built have been extremely over loaded. It is not just

The airspace is always changing to support more and more traffic. The older airport system is not able
to support the increased traffic. If all the sides were looked at, the advantages to having a strong air
travel system in a large city far outweigh the drawbacks. When the busiest two runway airport in the
world (Phoenix), has to go through 7 years of red tape bureaucracy to get a runway built, something is
wrong with the picture. The procedure should be modified so that changes can be made to the facility
when it needs to, not 10 years later. The way to get this done is that we need to start an awareness
campaign to let our government know what we want. We live with a democratic government, so we
should take advantage of it to speak out for something we want. The most effective way of making our
congressman aware of the issue is through a writing campaign. We need to write and have our friends
write to get the word out that airports are needed.
If the rule makers are aware that there are many people that do want aviation, it might speed up the
process. Speaking about airport expansion, There are only 3 runways expansion projects in the
country right now on the drawing board, Phoenix, Orlando, and Cleveland. It takes an extraordinarily
large amount of red tape to get a runway built, or lengthened (Sullivan 10 27 98). When I speak of red
tape, I mean the bureaucratic process to get the necessary

inspired by any drug induced hallucination, but by nature and simple anatomy. Herzog film the cave is
filled with simple to interpret mural of animals and palm prints. Especially one of the painting is a
woman s lower body, which was being compared to Venus figures. The researchers link the painting
and Venus figures to beauty, fertility and sexuality featured in sculptures of many other primitive
cultures. Not only that, researchers concluded that the artists associate much of their daily life, their
dreams and what they see to transform them into an art form. Herzog says Everything was alive. And
perhaps this is what truly separates us: not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arguments made by Anthropological studies cannot fully account for the development of Upper
Paleolithic culture or rock arts. However, it could be that arts in the European Upper Paleolithic have
entirely different meanings from other arts that ethnographers have been associated with. Just like in
the film, everything in the cave was associated with human life, and nature. The fact that humans
dived deep into caves, in total darkness, with only torches to light their way. Their journeys sometimes
required a long and dangerous routes to reach the desired locations. This strongly suggests that there
was a powerful and definite meaning associated behind the creations of art in such harsh environment.
Our understanding on the explanation of Upper Paleolithic rock art should not be seen as right or
wrong answer, but only incomplete knowledge of the topic. The artistic style in European Upper
Paleolithic must be viewed within a larger context, both of culture and of the inexplicable change of
archaeological records. Ancient humans may well have produced such great art wherever they went,
but what would inspire them to make such art remain in

Etta James Research Paper
At first you could say This girl is fearless and she had a tough childhood, she was probably the elite of

long career in music, where she soon became one of the best R B artist in the business, she later was
inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame. Etta had a normal but tough childhood. Etta did not really consider
her mom as her mom, she never called her mom because it didn t feel right. Dorothy, made Etta s life
full of pain. She never described her as warm and loving, just rude and immature (Hodgkinson, 2012).
She probably didn t have a good childhood like maybe others had, from having abusive parents and
didn t know what mood they were going to be in the next day, Then at 14 things started to get better
after she got adopted. She ended up being the lead singer in her trio. They played at talents shows and

Two U.S. Vacation Hot Spots Essay
In all of my travels across the United States of America, the `hottest vacation spot hands down is in
Key West, Florida and the `coolest place to travel to is Denali National Park in Denali, Alaska. These
vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally
have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of
them in the future because I had such a great time. Even though these are both awesome places to
spend a week of vacation time, they differ in weather and climate patterns, they each have unique
attractions and activities to do, and both vary in travel costs and various other expenses.
Weather and climate conditions are one major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since both vacation spots have different climates, they both offer a variety of different activities to do
and adventures to have. In Key West, vacationers are literally surrounded by water and have numerous
water activities to partake in like deep sea fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet
skiing, going to the beach, etc. I would suggest packing your travel bags full of shorts, tee shirts, water
apparel, and extra sunscreen! In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking,
climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various
exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing,
hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food.
One of the most important issues about traveling and vacations is the cost and the overall expense of
the trip. From Allentown, Pennsylvania, a round trip ticket for a week to Key West, Florida is going to
cost between four hundred and five hundred dollars, including a rental car and gas. However, a round
trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to
Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. It is going to cost between six hundred and nine
hundred dollars to travel. These costs do not even cover food, hotels, or shelter you are going to stay
in. There will also be numerous activity costs like boating, fishing

Yellow Wallpaper Influence
Wallpaper, in general, is never appealing, but usually most wallpaper does not make one go
completely crazy and lose their mind. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper,
created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife,
who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible
for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with
hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and
more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife
believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind the wallpaper. The story ends when the wife
completely loses it and tears down the wallpaper in an effort to free the trapped woman. This causes
her husband to faint and she continues to creep around the room. Gilman s influence for this
challenging story comes mostly from her own personal background. The Yellow Wallpaper relates to

Gilman was unhappy because she felt as though her marriage and being a mother weighed her down.
She only got married because it was expected of women at the time, as one article points out about
Gilman. Charlotte followed tradition and married Stetson on May 2, 1884, though still fearful that her
marriage would put an end to her hopes of having a career (Beekman). In The Yellow Wallpaper , the
wife clearly is not pleased with her marriage, just like Gilman. Several times throughout the story, she
makes comments that hint at her unhappiness. One example of this is in the beginning of the story,
John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage (Gilman 1). One does not expect that in
a happy marriage and the wife seems to know that, but really has no other choice in

Mass Shootings Essay
A mass shooting is defined as one that kills or injures 4 or more people. In 2015 alone there was 372
mass shootings in the U.S in 2015 that killed 475 people and wounded 1,870. The largest mass
shooting in America happened in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017. In Las Vegas, the gunman (Stephen
Paddock) opened fire on a crowd at a Route 91 Harvest music festival. Stephen Paddock killed 59
people and injured 527. Before this, the largest mass shooting had been in June 12, 2016 when a 29
year old security guard killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in a hate crime/ terriost attack inside a
nightclub in Orlando, Florida. More gun control is needed in this country to bring down the death toll

The amount of mass shootings in Australia dropped to zero after the gun control laws were made.
Australia is an example that if we enforce gun laws the amount of mass shootings will drop. Since
2013, there has been 242 school shootings, an average of nearly one a week. Research states that these
incidents resulted in 59 deaths and 124 non fatal injuries. Nearly one in six of the shootings occurred
after an argument intensified because of the presence of a gun rather than in spite of it. Research also
shows that more than half of the kids obtained a gun at more (most likely because their guardian did
not store it correctly.) In 2013 2015 there was 84 K 12 school shootings and 76 college of university
shootings. The U.S Department of Education statistics show that the number of students killed on
campus per year is approximately 15 homicides and 5 students annually in primary and secondary
schools. In over half of the incidents did the perpetrator intellionally injure/kill at least one other
person with a gun (In eight of those incidents, the shooter the shot and killed themselves.) Between
2013 and 2015, 56% were perpetrated by minors. Research provides an extra reason that gun control
is needed, because more than half of these school shooters are getting these guns from their guardians

The Importance Of A Long Distance Relationship
An unknown source once said, Absence makes the heart grow founder. Many have heard this because
it is such a popular saying but what does it mean? When parted from a loved one a heightened sense of
affection and devotion occurs. Couples who are in a long distance relationship (LDR) can relate to
this. A long distance relationship is a romantic relationship between two people who are
geographically separated. Distance relationships transpire for many reasons including career advances,
educational development, military service and/or deployment, imprisonment, immigration and family
responsibilities or obligations. Likewise, couples that are in a long distance relationship often face
hardships but have brighter outcomes. Being in a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, distance couples often share the same feelings of commitment and dedication. It seems likely
that the higher demand for investment and sacrifice inherent to long distance relationships might be
associated with higher levels of dedication among individuals in these relationships (Gretchen 259). It
is human tendency to prolong a task that has taken a tremendous amount of time and effort. In short,
those of distance will work harder at their relationship than those of proximity because; they have
worked to produce a relationship that is stable from afar. A feature that aids in the stability is trust.
Some level of trust must develop as each individual is not able to observe the others daily life (M.
Firmin, R. Firmin, and Lorenzen 59). Yes, trust is important is any relationship but, it is essential for a
LDR. Being away from the other half is unsettling because, watching the others routine is nearly
impossible. Those of proximity may never get to fully develop these skills because they are around to
see the others ordinary cycle. These skills are key details for a LDR and can be fulfilled in life outside
of each other. Comparatively, it is important through this journey that couples do not lose sight of their
individuality. Long distance couples are provided the time to seek out independence. In short, being in
close proximity is not an essential variable for relationship satisfaction (Phillips). Too often, people
who enter

The first game of theirs that I was exposed to was Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the 5th game in the

realistic, but they acted like real people too. Like movies, there is a director, but games can have two
specific directors: a technical director, whose focus is gameplay, and the creative director, who focuses
on the story. Unlike movies, multiple directors need to work together to blend the story and gameplay
to keep players engaged. One of Naughty Dog s most popular games, and possibly my favorite game,
The Last of Us is a perfect blend of story and gameplay. The Last of Us fits into the survival horror
genre in a zombie apocalypse scenario, limiting the player s resources to fight and defend themselves
which works effectively within the story. It develops every character thoroughly, even minor ones, as
well as their relationships with one another. Gameplay and story work together to explain why the
world they live in is so brutal, and why characters work so hard to

The Evolution of Visual Media As all art depends on the vision so the different kinds of art depend on
the different ways in which minds look at things This is a quote from the English philosopher George
Henry Lewes Lewes talks about how art is subjective he says that not everyone sees things the same
which plays a huge role in visual media Visual media can be referred to as pretty much anything you
can look at that carries a message whether it be through pictures or words To begin our journey we are
going to start way back 40000 BCE to be exact
When the average person hears 40000 BCE and thinks about what was happening that time period not
a lot comes to mind This period in time is known as the Upper Paleolithic period The ice age had just
ended leading to a making it easier for the Homo sapiens to live which lead to an increase in the
population of the Homo sapiens which eventually killed off the neanderthals the same homo sapiens
also began to start living together instead of roaming by themselves Modern day scientists and
archaeologists believe that this is where modern day language comes from with the discovery of cave
paintings The concept of cave paintings make a lot of sense now that we understand the time period
better The paintings in the caves depict hunting and animals They are different ways of telling what
animals they hunted and how many they killed during a season this lead to modern day languages

Macbeth Good Vs Evil Essay
Can the evil part of a man overcome his good heart? The Tragedy of Macbeth is a Drama written by
William Shakespeare that takes place in Scotland, England. In the story, the main character, Macbeth,
kills King Duncan to become King. He is so blind with his evilness that he does not see that his reign
of power will come to an end. The theme, good vs. evil, shows one just how quick another can have a
change of heart through Macbeth s conflicts with himself, his wife, and the son of the King. To begin
with, Macbeth has had internal good vs. evil issues. Macbeth contemplates about killing King Duncan
when he says First, as I am his Kinsman and his subject, strong both against the deed; then, as his
host, who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife myself. (Act I, scn vii, ln 13

Already at a point, was set forth. Now we ll together, and the chance of goodness be like our

equals the justice of their cause. Malcolm is hopeful when he says Tis his main hope, for where there

constrained things whose hearts are absent too. (Act VI, scn vi, ln 10 14) With this, Malcolm is
hopeful because Macbeths men will be in battle physically but not in spirit. After reading the play, the
reader realizes how good vs. evil can overturn one another. Macbeth and Lady Macbeths evil plan
were stopped by Malcolm. Macbeth ended up dead and Lady Macbeth was so consumed by guilt that
she ended up taking her own life. Malcolm became King of Scotland in the end. Therefore, this
convincing evidence proves that the evil part of a man can overcome his good

The Importance Of Setting In The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
Could anybody ask for a better name then Sleepy Hollow for this town. All the people of the town are
sleepy and inactive. There is also a hollow along the Hudson River which is right up close to the town.
In this short story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Irving captures the setting well through
description, how it affects the characters, and the way it fits with gothic attributes of this time. In the
first couple paragraphs it shows how much Irving wants us to get the creepy and scared feeling. Not
far from this village, perhaps about two miles, there is a little valley or rather lap of land among high
hills, which is one of the quietest places in the world (1). This is saying that even around the village it
is quiet and still. There is emptiness surrounding the village, lurking and waiting for somebody to pass
by. This short story has the characters behaviors reflecting the way the setting is described. In this by
place of nature there abode, in a remote period of American history, that is to say, some thirty years

Social Class And The Middle Class Essay
Social class can be defined as a social construct which is used to describe a group of people with
similar levels of wealth, influence and status. They tend to have dramatically different values and
mannerisms to others groups, for example, the working class are seen as uneducated and unskilled
workers, whereas the middle class are seen as highly educated people with high incomes (Harcourt,
2016). Despite there being other social class groups, including, the upper class, this essay will explore
the portrayal of the working class, lower class, also known as the underclass , and the middle class in
reality television, using the example of Wife Swap.
The working class and the lower class groups have been increasingly visible on British television
screens in recent years, mainly because the increasingly popular genre of reality television features
them heavily (Morley, 2009). Debates have sparked on whether the use of ordinary people on such
programmes is democratising or exploitative. It could be argued that because the working class were
not on such programmes, audiences and society therefore had no access to them and their lifestyles.
However, the great exposure of working classes on reality television programmes now provides access
to them and allows people to observe and judge how they behave and how they live.
It is not a recent discovery that disadvantaged individuals, families and communities are portrayed in
negative lights by the media (Crossley and Slater, 2014),

  • 2. General Motors, Jpy-Usd Exposure Daniel Pinga AEM 4290 General Motors, JPY USD Exposure Executive Summary General Motors Corporation, the world s largest automaker, has an extensive global outreach, which places the firm in competition with automakers worldwide, and subjects itself to significant exchange rate exposure. In particular, despite most of its revenues and production being derived from North America, depreciating yen rates pose problems for the firm indirectly through economic exposure. While GM possesses passive hedging strategies for balance sheet and income statement exposures, management has not yet quantified or recognized solutions to possible losses from the indirect competitive exposure it now shared with Japanese automakers in the U.S import ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... dollars. Having appreciating USD in their assets column, with depreciating yen in their liabilities column, this has lowered cost structure and expanded profit margins for firms such as Nissan, Honda and Toyota. Now, these automakers are able to pass on their reduced costs to consumers via sticker price reductions between 15 45% of cost savings, or through added incentives. According to Exhibit 6, as of 2000, per vehicle incentives of GM ($1,969) far exceeds those of Toyota and Honda, at $725 and 664, respectively; this competitive advantage GM currently holds, as well as its relative market share in the U.S., are endangered if Japanese firms choose to move their incentive values closer to the industry average. Looking into the competitive threat more closely, the auto industry in the United States is rather sensitive to price, with a price elasticity of 2, or a 5% increase in price contributing to a subsequent 10% fall in demand. Thus, based upon the sticker price decreases potentially implemented by Japanese automakers, Japanese companies combined market share (roughly 4.1m units in 2000) stands to increase substantially, and could eat into General Motors overall market share. To highlight the sensitivity to the USD JPY spot exchange rate, GM s VP of Finance, Eric Feldstein, suggests that just a one yen depreciation increases competitors operating profit by $400m. With $900m in net yen receivables, $500m in outstanding yen denominated bonds, and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. In The Waiting Room Elizabeth Bishop The poem, In the Waiting Room shown within Elizabeth Bishop s book The Complete Poems 1927 1979 is an engaging and descriptive poem about a child s self coming into adulthood. Elizabeth, the child, narrates the story from her point of view, reading the National Geographic while waiting for Aunt Consuelo to be finished with her appointment. The National Geographic however, is a gateway which portrays Elizabeth s adult side, showing her as a child what is to come as she grows older. Aunt Consuelo and those within the waiting room during the time when Elizabeth looks around adds on to this point, making her ask more questions about her own name, as well as her becoming like her Aunt. Which started with her picking up and flipping through, the yellow margins of the National Geographic. The idea behind the book National Geographic is to transport the reader into a location that they have not been too. For this poem however, it transports Elizabeth to her being an adult. Showing her what is to come with adulthood, Babies with pointed heads wound round and round with string; black, naked women with necks wound round and round with wire like the necks of light bulbs. Their breasts were horrifying (26 31) Elizabeth is horrified with what she sees as clearly stated, she does not wish to become an adult. To be given these breasts, or even the experience of a child. But since she was too scared to stop she kept reading till she heard her Aunt. Continuing further within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Adam Smith Division Of Labor Summary Ans1. Starting with Smith, he identified and analyzed the causes in the improvement of the productive powers of laborers. He defines the division of labor as a process by which an operation is divided into several sub operations, each of which is carried out by a different person. There is strong emphasis on the fact that division of labor increases the worker s skill and efficiency. Smith believed there is a cumulative mechanism that operates in a capitalist system which proceeds in the following sequence of events: division of labor increase in the size of the markets increase in productivity of labor: a real cycle of growth. Moving forward, Smith s contribution to explaining the value of goods, but did not give rise to a theory of value. His starting point was to recognize that the structure of a productive process can be represented in terms of the series of quantities of labor employed to produce the goods. He emphasized on the fact that raw material for one labor process is also a product of someone s else labour. Hence ,quoting Adam Smith , Labor, therefore, is the real measure of the exchangeable value of all commodities. The real price of everything, what everything really costs to the man who wants to acquire it, is the toil and trouble of acquiring it . The deduction we can draw from this fact is that, for any good or service to have value it must be produced by human labor. He went on to infer that any potential buyer of a good or service will value the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Russian Revolution After World War I Essay For many revolutions people may argue different reasons why that particular revolution was caused, but there often one that is the primary cause. The Russian Revolution began February 1917, many people in Russia lost faith in their government, especially since they had not done so well to begin with when they participated in World War I. Which resulted in a lot of expenses. Others may argue that since Tsar was an unproductive leader and because of the decisions he made when he was in power that influenced the Russian Revolution. Although Tsar s weak leadership may have influenced the Russian Revolution, World War I was the main cause of the Russian Revolution because it destroyed the economy, which led to riots and many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Russia struggled to provide food for its populations. Citizens took control into their own hands, Ludovic Naudeau wrote in October 1917, One morning recently I was awakened by the cries of my neighbor in the next room. His boots had been stolen. The same day the manager of a newspaper office told me that he had been robbed six of pairs of pantaloons, ... Four hundred thefts every night! he cried; that is the average for the last two weeks, (One Aspect of Bolshevist Liberty). Russia could not even uphold itself because the economy was not successful compared to other countries. This led people to desire a change in the government; therefore this led to the Russian Revolution. People went to different maters to get what they wanted such as stealing since they were not getting the aid that they needed and they needed financial support. This caused them to protest against their government because many people from the lower class could not take care of their families. This cause led to a greater impact compared to Tsarist weak authority. Some may argue Tsar Nicholas weak leadership help contributes to the Russian Revolution but World War I was be the primary cause. Tsar Nicholas was not the best leader but that did not have a big enough impact to cause the Russia Revolution because his actions did not lead to as many problems that World War I had caused. World War I had a greater impact because it led to many problems within Russia that caused the citizens to be furious. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Social And Cultural Change Prompted Social and Cultural Change Prompted by Technology Textile, steam, and metallurgy based innovations amounted to a legacy in Britain and a precedent for future industrial revolutions for other countries. As urbanization became a phenomenon in Britain, people migrated to the city centers in an effort to find employment and waged labor. New technological advancements, during Britain s Industrial Revolution, prompted change in society and culture. The increased demand for British goods resulted in merchants needed more cost effective methods of production, which led to the rise of mechanization and the factory system. The separation of social classes and labor was one major effect of the inventions. Also, women and children were the new solution for long, hard hours and lower pay. Cultural changes were a direct result of this increase in technological developments, reshaping familial relations and daily life, while leaving an agriculturally based culture. The most important change in society and societal views, that resulted from new technology in everyday life, was a larger separation in classes and wages. As technology emerged, a new class system followed. Before the industrial revolution, the average lifespan was higher, the economy was stimulated by agriculture, and, above all, there was little division in social class and labor. With small scale productions, the agricultural sector was self sufficient. However, as more people flocked to the cities in search of employment in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next thing you know you re in big trouble for being on the streets after 10:00 p.m. Don t like the sound of that do you? My city council is considering a curfew that would make it illegal for teenagers to be out on the streets after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and after midnight on weekends. I disagree with this consideration because teenagers may have to work late, they could be in danger, or there could be an emergency. First of all, some teenagers end up working late at night and can t help that. Working night shift causes teenagers to get home late. Most teenagers don t have a car, so they walk to and from work. The Common Pattern Of Alternating Extinctions And Radiations Extinctions and Radiations W 1, A 3 Bio 1021 By Roxanne Fortune South University Submitted: November, 16th, 2016 The common pattern of alternating extinctions and radiations has been done through biodiversity studies which studies the different organisms of species living on earth and where they live. In Stilwell (2003) journal, Palaeocene faunas are characterized by a perceived rapid evolutionary radiation involving many new taxa at both genus and species level. Stilwell stated Molluscs living at the beginning of tertiary period after the K T extinction event was the beginning of modern fauna. There was research that saw the decimation of scores of marine organisms. Mollusc groups were mentioned (e.g. Ammonites, Belemnites Rudistid and Trigoniid Bivalves), (Stilwell, 2003). In Stilwell s research journal, Austral Palaeocene Molluscs focuses on the composition of faunas and patterns of evolution, it shows diversity and riches. The Southern Hemisphere show the break up of Supercontinent Gondwana and also changes in oceanic circulation and climate. In the northern Hemisphere shows major diversity changes in the Marine Realm. In a journal written by Racki, it was mentioned, with the enlargement and nitrification most likely will lead to the loss of deep water niches and step by step siliceous faunas go through severe non selective losses during the end Permian mass extinction, (Racki, 1999). It is recommended that The Salon creates new services that differentiate from the competitors. If The Salon has better services that customers perceive more valuable and creates more satisfaction than competitors, The Salon may be able to set higher prices without fearing losing customers. Specifically, The Salon should create different levels for any service if possible. For example, for pedicure, it should create three or four levels such as basic, deluxe, elite with the price and margin increases as the level increases. The increase can be justified because the high level of service offers more,e.g. the elite pedicure has hot rock massage on feets while the others do not. In another way to differentiate is to increase the value offered in the service, for example, offering free toe nail art/design when customers have both manicure and pedicure services. By the same token. it is recommended that The Salon creates service bundles that are compelling to customers and perceived as good value. The bundles would create differentiation that helps The Salon stand above the competitors. Better differentiation would allow attract more customers and The Salon can set a higher profit margin without fear of competition of the identical service. One example of bundling services is the top to bottom bundle that includes eyebrow lip waxing, manicure, and pedicure with a price that less than if individual service is performed separately. They that suggested methanethiol (sulfur containing carbon compound) was the starter dough from which all life emerged. The first people to test this hypothesis was geochemists, Eoghan Reeves, Jeff Seewald, and Jill McDermott. They went to the hydrothermal vent sites, there they predicted that they would find abundant methanethiol, their results had surprised them. Reeves said that their claim from before was false, What we essentially found in our survey is that we don t think methanethiol is forming by purely chemical means without the involvement of life. However, the scientists still believe that hydrothermal vents are a great environment for new life to emerge. The fourth of the biomolecule hypotheses was the RNA World Hypothesis. The RNA World Hypothesis was proposed by Francis Crick in 1967. The hypothesis was that life begins with self replicating RNA molecules. According to Crick s hypothesis genetic information is stored by RNA and the RNA catalyzed the chemical reactions in primitive cells. However, later in time DNA took over as genetic material and proteins became the structural components of cells. RNA still catalyzes several reactions in modern day cells, which can be viewed as molecular fossils of an entire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being an art student, I have learned that artist reflect certain aspects of their community while preparing any artistic product. This trend has been in existence for a long time ever since the discovery of art in ancient communities. However, I must admit that most of us in the modern communities do not appreciate art to the extent that it deserves. In order to understand and appreciate art, people must have knowledge of its place in time. As such, I took an initiative of unraveling the Mayan Mural Painter at Bonampak by investigating various aspects of the Maya community in order to understand their art. In my research, I have discovered that the Maya people represent some of the most renowned communities in relation to culture and artistic expressions. Living in the southern Mexico and northern Central America, the Maya people consist of group of communities with shared cultural values and heritage (Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian 1). The technology impacts the family environment, social relationships with people; health of people that do not have rational use of technology, creativity, and focus. The procedure should be modified so that changes can be made to the facility when it needs to, not 10 years later. The way to get this done is that we need to start an awareness campaign to let our government know what we want. We live with a democratic government, so we should take advantage of it to speak out for something we want. The most effective way of making our congressman aware of the issue is through a writing campaign. We need to write and have our friends write to get the word out that airports are needed. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper, created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife, who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind the wallpaper. In short, those of distance will work harder at their relationship than those of proximity because; they have worked to produce a relationship that is stable from afar. A feature that aids in the stability is trust. Some level of trust must develop as each individual is not able to observe the others daily life (M. Firmin, R. Firmin, and Lorenzen 59). These skills are key details for a LDR and can be fulfilled in life outside of each other. Comparatively, it is important through this journey that couples do not lose sight of their individuality. They tend to have dramatically different values and mannerisms to others groups, for example, the working class are seen as uneducated and unskilled workers, whereas the middle class are seen as highly educated people with high incomes (Harcourt, 2016). Despite there being other social class groups, including, the upper class, this essay will explore the portrayal of the working class, lower class, also known as the underclass , and the middle class in reality television, using the example of Wife Swap. The working class and the lower class groups have been increasingly visible on British television screens in recent years, mainly because the increasingly popular genre of reality television features them heavily (Morley, 2009). However, the great exposure of working classes on reality television programmes now provides access to them and allows people to observe and judge how they behave and how they live. It is not a recent discovery that disadvantaged individuals, families and communities are portrayed in negative lights by the media (Crossley and Slater, 2014), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
