Organized Crime In The 1800s
Organized crime has been present in the history of the United States and can be traced back to the
streets of the early 1800 s. Organized crime occurs when a group of people congregate together and
plan to commit a series of crimes to make money, usually illegally. Organized crime groups have
evolved over time from small rackets to grand organizations like the Italian Mafia. Crime particularly
began to become prominent in urban areas during the prohibition. Organized crime is still just as
visible today as it was back in the early 1800 s. The first successful organized crime group was the
Forty Thieves of New York. This group formed as hundreds of immigrants came together for their
own protection and financial gain. Organized crime became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In January of 1920 the American government banned the sale and supply of alcohol, the government
thought that this would curb crime and violence, prohibition did not achieve it s goals, leading more
toward higher crime rates and excessive violence. The prohibition made bootlegging, the illegal trade
and sale of alcohol a popular activity among the Mafia and other gangs. The distribution of alcohol
turned out to be more complex than other criminal activities. Gangs attempted to secure large
territories where they could establish a monopoly of

Hume
Q. Explain Humes criticisms of the cosmological argument (25 marks)
The cosmological argument is based on the principle of causation. In particular, it is put forward that
any existent thing must have a cause or reason for its existence and that there cannot be more in the
effect than there is in the cause. Hume challenges these assumptions in his Dialogues.
There are three main critiques that Hume makes of the argument. Firstly, he has general concerns
about the way it is structured, and believes that this structure is fallacious. Secondly, he has more
specific concerns related to causation and finally he raises challenges to do with the concepts of
contingency and necessity.
Hume s challenges to the structure of the cosmological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the term necessary being makes no sense, any being claimed to exist may or may not exist. In
Hume s own words All existential propositions are synthetic.
Q. To what extent was Hume successful in his critique of the cosmological argument? (10 marks)
Hume makes some very important challenges to the Cosmological argument. One of the key areas he
questions is the argument s dependence upon what Leibniz named, the principle of sufficient reason.
In this principle an adequate explanation must be a total explanation. The universe requires an
explanation of itself as a whole but many would say, as Russell later told Copleston: Then I can only
say that you re looking for something which can t be got, and which one ought not to expect to get.
Also if we are only entitled to talk about causes when we have had experience of them, then this
argument would seem to be over stretching itself in speculating upon what it cannot know.
On the other hand, there is of course a problem with stopping at a certain point and saying that we
should seek no further explanation, in that it is a basic presupposition of all scientific work. However,
even though a principle of rationality is that we can find an explanation for things, there is no
guarantee that there will be one. So, I think Hume significantly weakens forms of the argument that
depend on the principle of sufficient reason.
However, I think that Hume s criticisms of a necessary being

Abigail Adams Analysis
The author of this document is Abigail Adams, a white female that is married to John Adams. She
lives in a time where women have no form of representation, and they live in the shadow of men.
Because of this, Abigail takes up a woman s traditional role and performs activities such as
manufacture clothing for her family, soap making, creating gun/cannon powder for her husband, and
other chores for the benefit of her household (Adams, Paragraph 12). Fulfilling this role has shaped
her by securing her inferiority to her husband and other males. She as a woman lacks power both
socially and politically when it comes to the opposite gender; however, it is just this that has cultivated
her attitude towards her government, the male sex, and even her own spouse. By requesting that her
husband remember to give rights to women, it shows that she was brave enough to present her
opinions even though they were unwelcomed (Adams, Paragraph 9). She is headstrong in the sense
that she is willing to rebel if she does not receive the proper representation that she is asking for. Also,
by mentioning that the women would rebel, Abigail displays her intelligence because she could
foresee the inevitable future if women s rights were not improved (Adams, Paragraph 9). She sees the
world for what it is, unjust. Moreover, her social and political inferiority did not result in ignorance.
Based on her vocabulary, writing style, and comprehension/expression of such complex ideas, she
reveals that she is

Differences Of The UEFA Champions League And The Super Bowl
Both the UEFA Champions League and Super Bowl in the United States are big sporting events both
nationally and internationally. There are several similarities between the opening ceremony of the
UEFA Champions League and that of the Super Bowl. One of the main similarities is that the two
events attract a huge number of fans. In the 2017 UEFA Champions League final, there were fans
drawn from both Real Madrid and Juventus. The final attracted many people as many people flocked
to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Similarly, many fans flock the Super Bowl event in the United
States. Another similarity is the fact that the two events feature artist s performances. The Black Eyed
Peas performed during the opening ceremony of the 2017 UEFA Champions League. Similarly, the
Super Bowl has in the past featured artists such as Lady Gaga.
There are however some differences between the two events. The UEFA Champions League attracted
more fans compared to the Super Bowl. UEFA Champions League commands a wider fan base
globally compared to the Super Bowl. Another difference is the fact that while the Super Bowl has
halftime performances, the UEFA Champions League only features opening performances. The UEFA
Champions League Final opening ceremony also trends more compared to NFL Super Bowl.
Commercial Sponsors
Several multinational companies sponsored the UEFA Champions League. According to the policies
of the league, not more than eight companies should only sponsor a match. The

Organizational Behavior And Organizational Behaviour
The above drawn figure shows about organisational behaviour. It highlights the bonding among
human behaviour in organizational settings, the individual organization interface, the organization, the
environment surrounding the organization. In an organization each and every individual brings its own
experience, managerial and effective skills.
Classical Organizational theory: Popovich (2010) said that in this theory, the concentration mainly
goes in how an organization can be structured in effective manner. These three are believed to be
major contributors of organization theory, Henri Fayol, Lyndall Urwick Max Weber. But they all given
same form of structure which was Bureaucratic. Organizational behaviour plays an integral role in
organization s progress, economic growth, and productive results .
Those people who work in organization, they are literally born in there educated in organizations.
They also learn and grab most of their material possessions from organizations and die as members of
organizations. Majority of our activities are regulated by organizations, called governments. Most
adults spend their better part of life working in organizations (Roberts, 2006).
Task no.1.1: Sum up the Leadership Theories: Definition of leadership leader , shows great influence

Scholars As Well As Public Figures Have Suggested That
Scholars as well as public figures have suggested that a world run by women would, fundamentally,
be a more peaceful and equal one. ladies, as the stereotype goes (and, actually, as a decent amount of
empirical research suggests), tend to be more collaborative in work and leadership, more empathetic,
and much, much less violent on an individual level. ,as Vice President Joe Biden recently suggested
foreign policy is a logical extension of personal relationships, and if women are widely acknowledged
to be canny at conducting them, perhaps it follows that female leadership in international affairs would
produce more empathy and collaboration between countries. To the extent that global problems like
violence and inequality are failures of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the precondition for such peace. There cannot be peace between nations until there is peace
between the two halves of humanity, the mothers and fathers of all living and all yet to live. Steinem
sees a connection between what we have chosen to normalize in male female relations, and what we
see at the level of state and society.
The family is the basic cell of the government, she explains, it is where we are trained to believe that
we are human beings or that we are chattel, it is where we are trained to see the sex and race divisions
and become callous to injustice even if it is done to ourselves, to accept as biological a full system of
authoritarian government.
Truly, it should not come as a surprise to us that societies which are rooted in male dominance over
females are in no way peaceful or democratic; as noted by Steinem. We are never going to have
democratic countries or peaceful countries until we have democratic or peaceful families because you
must teach men to dominate in order to maintain a male dominated system and that is a very ugly
education, indeed, where the first to be dominated are those within men s own families who are
different from them
Domestic violence is the seedbed of all other violence based on

The Removal of the Cherokee Essay
The tragedy of the Cherokee nation has haunted the legacy of Andrew Jackson s Presidency. The
events that transpired after the implementation of his Indian policy are indeed heinous and continually
pose questions of morality for all generations. Ancient Native American tribes were forced from their
ancestral homes in an effort to increase the aggressive expansion of white settlers during the early
years of the United States. The most notable removal came after the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The
Cherokee, whose journey was known as the Trail of Tears , and the four other civilized tribes,
Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole, were forced to emigrate to lands west of the Mississippi

Life was never the same after the Spaniards arrived. The Spaniards brought foreign diseases, horses,
chains, knives, and guns to America. The Spaniards did not settle the area north of the Rio Grande
because Spanish explorer Desoto did not discover gold. Spain reacted to news of Desoto s failure by
blaming the Indians for his defeat. The Spanish developed a prejudice against the Indians, which
others followed.#
During the American Revolution the Cherokees, discontented with the colonists expansionist habits
sided with the British. In the early periods of the Revolutionary War Southern militia attacked the
Cherokee people. A peace treaty with the Cherokee s was made on May 20, 1777, acknowledging
defeat at the hand of the Americans. Consequently, the Cherokee Nation ceded large amounts of land
in the Carolinas and Eastern Georgia to the United States. After the Revolution General Elijah Clarke
of the Georgia Militia attacked the Cherokee nation on behalf of the American revolutionaries. In 1787
he defeated Indians at Jack s Creek and prompted the Cherokee nation to cede more land in
Northeastern Georgia. To thank Clarke for his service the Georgia House of Assembly granted him a
plantation, which was located on old Indian land. #

Practical And Practical Theories
Theory : a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on
general principles independent of the thing to be explained .
Practical : of or concerned with the actual doing or use of something rather than with theory and ideas

There are various kinds of knowledge and many different ways to attain them. Theory is one type

The History of the Modern Piano
The History of the Modern Piano Pianos have been around for about three millenniums, and have been
redesigned hundreds if not thousands of times! What has kept this instrument, this form of expressing
deep feeling, so entwined with its owner and all those who hear it? The piano has been around for
such a lengthy period of time that it is described to have an epoch, or an age, which represents its
climb into fame and ends just before the current depression it s going through. This is known as, The
Age of the Piano (Bellis, About). There are many types of pianos that can be divided into groups. The

His first attempt, in 1720, was successful, in the goals he was trying to accomplish, but the music was
soft and the keys were too hard to push down. We still adopt his system of 88 piano keys to create
music. Some of his original pianos still exist today in the world. There are currently ten that are still
kept in museums (Natural History, 5). The piano was first designed without a strong system of
plucking the strings. This initially made the first couple attempts a failure, but some German inventors
got together and developed a better system of making intricate sounds (with deep and light feeling)
with hammers (The Piano, 6). These depths allowed for the expression of romanticism and emotion.
The piano was invented, because the harpsichord was unable of creating depths (Bellis, About). It was
made because of a want or need for music and feeling. Pianos, today, are still used in creating music
and beats which are enjoyed by the people who listen to these sounds. The piano has been a part of
creating, playing, and enjoying music for a long time, but is losing demand. People have been trying
to come up with different methods of creating sound, of playing sound, and of listening to these two

College Is A Time For Young Men And Women
College is a time for young men and women to achieve a higher education in order to grasp their
dreams and hopes for their lives. While on this endeavor, pressures in all forms, shapes, and sizes
attack us nearly every day. As a college student the fear and lack of money show their ugly head all
the time. Learning to budget money, deciding what is important to spend limited funds on, and the
ever present repayment of college loans puts stress on students. But the pressure that weighs the most

Difference Between Drama And Drama
Theater and Drama
Drama means to act or to do from the Greek dran. It means action literally. It is a composition in prose
for enactment intended to portray life or character or to tell a story by action and dialogue. It is a
process geared to the participant and does not require a formal audience.
Theatre is a building specifically designed for the purpose of presenting dramatic performances before
an audience (Collier, 1995). It includes drama activities which may lead to formal presentation of a
scripted play involving acting, directing, designing, and other technical aspects.

It arouses pity and fear in the audience as it witnesses the action. In classical tragedy we find a
protagonist at the center of the drama that is a great person, usually of upper class birth. Tragedy
involves the audience in the action and creates tension and expectation.
Comedy
This genre should have the view of a comic spirit and is physical and energetic. It is tied up in rebirth
and renewal. This is the reason most comedy end in weddings, which suggest a union of a couple and
the expected birth of children. Comedy creates light feelings. The playwright uses comic devices such
as exaggeration, incongruity, surprise, repetition, wisecracks, and sarcasm.
Melodrama
Melodrama is drama of disaster and differs from tragedy significantly. The protagonist is usually a
victim of circumstance. He is acted upon by the antagonist or anti hero and suffers without having to
accept responsibility and inevitability of fate. Melodrama has a sense of strict moral judgment. All
issues presented in the plays are resolved in a well defined way. The good characters are rewarded and
the bad characters are punished in a means that fits the

David Robertson reiterates that the biggest problem concerning the association of drugs with sport is

Yoder-Wiser In Nursing
1. Why are the study of ethics and legal issues relevant to nursing management?
The study of ethics and legal issues are relevant to nursing management because this profession is
about healthcare which we need to provide carefully and correctly to people. Yoder Wiser describes
ethics to be what one feels inclined to do based on one s conscience as opposed to what company
protocols and policies say one must do (Yoder Wiser, 2015). If we don t have a proper study of the
ethical and legal issues, it may lead to a critical problem that will affect not only the profession but the
healthcare industry as a whole. Studying ethics will allow nurses the knowledge and understanding on
how we can provide quality healthcare to our patients. In addition,

Milton Snavely Hershey s Work Experience
Milton Snavely Hershey, born to Veronica and Henry Hershey, on September 13, 1857, grew up

early work experience, Milton learned early on of the value of hard work and perseverance. In 1871,
Milton Hershey left school for good and was apprenticed to a local printer who published a German

Difference Between Adam Smith And David Ricardo
Introduction
Wealth of Nations (1776) by Adam Smith and Principles of Economics (1951) by David Ricardo
heralded the formulation international trade theories. To Adam Smith it was the division of labor that
reduces cost production and that would ensure competitiveness in the international markets. Smith
contended that the problem of monetary adjustment to countries having continuous trade surplus could
be solved by automatic adjustments. Basic premises of the trade theory were formulated by David
Ricardo. Free trade theory as opposed to Mercantilists trade protection was championed by Adam
Smith and David Ricardo. For Smith and Ricardo free was mechanism to increase the productive

When demand elasticity for the same good is different in different countries there is a possibility of
subsidized exporting of goods. There is one more possibility that there are some countries that are
historically above others and have cost advantage of producing some goods and they can offer goods
at lower price than others. In such as situation countries will provide subsidies to industries whose cost
of production is high to enable them to reap the benefit of scale economies. This will pave ways for
advanced countries to follow aggressive strategic trade. A vagary of history determines what a country

To solve this issue, we need to protect the orphans. We need to stop letting orphanages be treated like
daycare, need better background checks and training for volunteers, and stop letting inhumane
behaviors happen in our orphanages. Orphanages need more funding, better trained volunteers and
better resources. Orphans have been through alot and are resilient, but we need to protect orphans
around the world, giving them the closest thing we can to their families. With good volunteers, we can
change these kids lives and get them into the lives they deserve. Children are amazingly resilient... we

New Learnings Of Supply Chain Management
Until the Council of Logistics Management modified the definition of logistics to specify it as a
subsection of supply chain management, many considered the two terms as one in the same. New
learnings in the arena of supply chain management demonstrate the supply chain s ability to support
organizational business strategies. A supply chain in its entirely encompasses a wide range of activities
from basic commodities, to selling finished goods to consumers, to recycling products (Harrison van
Hoek, 2011). This includes the process of planning and controlling procurement, transportation,
conversion, and distribution across the entire supply chain. Collaboration between partners such as
suppliers, third party logistics (3PL) providers, intermediaries, customers, etc., is inclusive in supply
chain management. Simply stated, supply chain management is the method in which business gets
done.
Most people do not realize that the products filling the shelves in every aisle of retail stores are the
result of supply chain management. Cumulative efforts of multiple organizations within a supply chain
enable customers to fill their shopping carts with various goods. Today, managing supply chain
activities in order to maximize customer value and gain competitive advantages in the marketplace is
common business practice. This process involves streamlining the supply side of businesses, which
requires an effort by suppliers to cultivate and implement the most efficient and

Commentary on the Bat by Roethke
Aliona Fezoua My Expert Commentary The Bat Theodore Roethke: By day the bat is cousin to the
mouse. He likes the attic of an aging house. His fingers make a hat about his head. His pulse beat is so
slow we think him dead. He loops in crazy figures half the night Among the trees that face the corner
light. But when he brushes up against a screen, We are afraid of what our eyes have seen: For
something is amiss or out of place When mice with wings can wear a human face. Theodore Roethke s

important message to the reader. One could interpret this poem in various ways; however a prominent
theme would be that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By comparing the bat s depiction during both day and night, Roethke may be trying to convey that the
bat is actually no more than a simple and peaceful being, which has been wrongly portrayed for years.
From another point of view, the author could be wanting to convey, through the image of a bat, that
everyone has a dark side . Roethke ingeniously does so in the final line of the poem with the latter s
twist metaphorical ending; when mice with wings can wear a human face (Roethke, 10). As previously
discussed, bats are usually associated with slyness and darkness, by making the bat wear a human face
, Roethke is trying to express that bats can sometimes resemble humans and vice versa. Ultimately,
humans can also sometimes wear a bat face and have a darker side. The author also gives the poem a
very descriptive tone through a significant amount of imagery. For example, the metaphor; his fingers
make a hat about his head (Roethke, 3), provides a detailed description of the bat s upper body in such
a way that the reader is able to picture the bat as what Roethke wants him/her to picture it as. One
could also infer that the author may again be trying to make the connection between bat and man;
since men wear hats and not bats. Another metaphor would be; by day the bat is cousin to the mouse
(Roethke, 1). Of course, mouse

Authoritative Parenting Analysis
My group members and I discussed how parenting in an authoritative style is key in any scenario
presented. Authoritative parenting is shown when parents use warmth, firm control, and rational issue
oriented discipline, in which emphasis is placed on the development of self direction (Steinberg,
2017). My group members and I decided to focus on scenario one and we believe that an appropriate
response to a situation, where a daughter disobeys her mother s rules of no boys in the house alone,
would be using authoritative parenting. An authoritative parent would sit her daughter down, after the
boy has left, and ask her why she broke the rules. The parent would then lecture the daughter and
explain to her the reason she believes these rules need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives the daughter the feeling that she is involved in the rules. The mother isn t disciplining the
child harshly, but rather is being warm and firm with her child. She is explaining to her daughter why
these rules are set, making the daughter feel intellectually sufficient in the situation. If the mother were
an authoritarian parent, a parent who use[s] punitive, absolute, and forceful discipline, and who
place[s] a premium on obedience and conformity then she would have probably yelled at her daughter
(Steinberg, 2017). She would have enforced a more drastic form of punishment, like taking away her
phone and computer for two months and forbidding her from ever seeing the boy again. My group
members and I agreed that if the mother were an indulgent parent, who [is generally] mainly
concerned with the child s happiness, then the mother would be overly understanding (Steinberg,

No One Will Steal My Car Because It s An Old Clunker
Car theft usually happens when you least expect it. You may be walking to your car after a hard day at
the job only to find an empty spot where you thought you left it. As you walk through the parking lot,
hoping against hope that you may have parked it in another spot, the awful feeling finally sinks home:
your car was stolen. Unfortunately, this all too common experience happens to many people because
they weren t prepared. They thought it couldn t happen to them because they acted on common car
misconceptions about theft that left them without a car. Here are three of them: No One Will Steal My
Car Because It s an Old Clunker There are at least two reasons why this is a myth. First, old cars are
easier to steal because they lack the latest anti theft technology of the newest cars. While it s true that
smart thieves do find ways of defeating state of the art anti theft devices, there are fewer of them
around. It s basically a bell shaped curve thing. The more smarts required to steal a car, the fewer the
thieves around with the required smarts. The rest simply go after easy targets like your old clunker.
The second reason is that professional thieves often prefer older cars because ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Poem The Old Testament
One of the most interesting details of this picture is its shape. Most pieces that we see are rectangular
or square. This piece is circular. Not only that, but there are also words around the border of the scene.
After my first look at this picture, I think that there is a strong feminist undertone here. A woman is
the main focal point, and not only that but she is also about to kill a man. She is exuding power. This
scene is reminiscent of a biblical story in the Old Testament where a woman drives a stake through a
man s head during wartime.
Descriptive Analysis One of the first elements of this piece was the contrast. The piece was done in
black and white so there are mainly just highlights and shadows. Highlighted the most is what I ...

So here we have a woman who has all the power in this situation. She is holding a hammer to the head
of this man who we can see is very strong, and he cannot stop her. To create the contrast in this scene,
the artist relied heavily on the use of lines. There is a boundary line that encompasses the entire
picture. The fact that the boundary line of this piece is in a circle makes the scene feels as if it holds
some sort of significance. There is a type of painting the tondo where the artist creates his/her piece
with a circular boundary line. This style of art was very popular in Italy during the Renaissance and
was usually used to convey religious ideas. This evidence would support the idea that this scene
depicts a biblical story from the Old Testament. The artist also uses the method of hatching and cross
hatching to give a sense of depth. The use of hatching is very heavily defined on the curtains around
the backside of the tent. Cross hatching is used to define a shadow on the left side of the curtain. This
effect makes it feel as though this area of the tent is farther away from the viewer s vantage point. The
artist also uses hatching on the two main subjects to define their bodies even under their clothes. This
method helps the artist contribute to the effect of contrast. Areas where there is little to no hatching
seem lighter and thus closer to the viewer.

Carney And Rosomoff s The Shadow Of Slavery
Carney and Rosomoff s In the Shadow of Slavery is a historical account of the role foodstuff, both
botanical and animal, from Africa played in the Columbian Exchange. The book begins by discussing
Africa s agricultural history and trade with the Old World. It continues with the need for food during
the Atlantic slave trade, how African plants came to the New World, and who was responsible for the
planting and care of African plants. Carney and Rosomoff deal primarily with the time period in which
the Atlantic slave trade occurred, though they do discuss African agricultural history as far back as
10,500 B. P. They focus on the Columbian exchange on the West Coast of Africa and Latin America.

The expansion of Islam allowed for the spread of item like coffee and sorghum the Middle East as
well as Muslim Spain. African plants like finger millet, tamarind, okra, and castor beans made their
way to South Asia via two trade routes, one connecting the Ethiopian Highlands and the Horn of
Africa and the other connecting the East African Highlands to Zanj. (Carney, 33) The banana, of
Southeast Asian origin, arrived in Africa and became a food staple in African farming.
African foods were vital to the support and continuation of the African slave trade. The slave trade
created an incredible demand for food both on the West coast of Africa and on the slave ships bound
for the Americas. Slaves had to be fed from the time they were captured to the time they arrived at the
destination. The food brought from Europe was not suitable for the conditions in tropical Africa. The
food necessary to provide for the enslaved, this included plants and live animals, on board the ships
was grown and bought in Africa. Significantly, locations of known food supplies along the coast came
to be identified by the food available in that location, for example the Rice Coast. The rise in demand
for slaves caused the populations of slaves and traders along the West coast of Africa to grow, which
increased the demand for food.

Essay about An Analysis of Fairy Tales
Sagas about princes and princesses, beauty, magic, and love, fairy tales like Snow White and
Cinderella among others have become children s favorite bedtime stories. However, as parents tuck
their sons and daughters in, they fail to realize that there is a much more daunting purpose to these
stories. American writer and poet, Jane Yolen suggests that fairy tales indicate life values.
Furthermore, Yolen insists that these tales are thumbprints of history (Yolen 27). Studying fairy tales
in depth, she proves that the functions of myths consist of creating a landscape of allusion [and]

However, few realize that there are many communal ideas imbedded in the plots that often go
unrecognized. Fairy tales, more often than not, highlight a multitude of social aspects which might
seem inappropriate for children. Constantly evolving, fairy tales, as indicated by Yolen and Zipes,
illustrate the sexist views of the dominating class, the societal beliefs as they change throughout
history as well as the community s values especially during crisis.
First of all, a rather sexist view of women has emerged from the evolution of a variety fairy tales. In
older versions of many fairy tales, on can see the female dominant, matriarchal societies through the
strong female protagonists. For example, as Yolen reminds, Cinderella until lately has never been a
passive dreamer....The forerunners of the Ash girl have been hardy, active heroines (33). One of the
earlier Cinderellas belonged to a hunting community where most important is the function of a female.
She was at the center of this society and maintained a nurturing element (194). As time went by Zipes
concludes, women lost their supremacy and fairy tales...reinforced the patriarchal symbolic order
based on rigid notions of sexuality and gender (qtd. in Tatar 338). As Zipes explains, the heroines in
these fairy tales remain pathetic , passive, and pale in comparison to the more active characters ,
usually the men, when compared to those of the first generation of fairy

Cadmium Essay
Cadmium is present on earth crust as heavy metal and its exposure in environment is very big
challenge to environmentalist because cadmium is non degradable in nature. In environment cadmium
transfers from one trophic level to another and finally accumulated in human with toxic effects. There
is an emergent need to remove the cadmium from environment. Microbes are very helpful in this area
to remediate the cadmium from environment. Microorganisms used biotransformation and adsorption
mechanisms for regulation of translocation of heavy metals. In present time many research have been
done on the toxicity of cadmium in microorganisms. Microorganisms release many types of organic
and inorganic substances by which they can detoxify the cadmium. Such character of microorganisms
is regulated by genes organized at operons and heavy metal resistance genes mostly present on
plasmids. Out of several mechanisms active export is the main mechanisms in cadmium tolerant
bacteria. Several metal specific sensor strains have been formed and applied in many laboratories.
PGPR (plant growth promoting rhizobacteria) are particularly important for enhancing plant growth in

Analysis Of Stairway To Heaven
No matter how many times somebody is asked to give an explanation to what the song Stairway to
Heaven really perseveres, different answers will be given every time. The song Stairway to Heaven
was written by Led Zeppelin in 1971. Throughout all these years, still everybody has their own
interpretation to the song, and they will respond differently based upon what the true meaning of the
song really is. The reason being is, the song represents many different values throughout it, and it is
the others choice to determine the outlook on it.
In 1980, Led Zeppelin could have had the biggest tour in the history of rock and roll. Although, this
never happened because one of the members, Rob Plant, refused to be a part of it. He rejected to

that the lyrics took some rough shots. In the beginning of it, he claims that it is meant towards a
woman who strives for money, only to find out the unpleasant way that is going to be keeping her
from reaching her stairway to heaven. Rob Plant had no other reason for stating what his meaning was
towards writing the song, but he did note that he saw it as a woman getting everything she wanted

Health promotion has been defined as the process of enabling people to increase control over their
health and to improve it. This process requires personal participation and supportive environments.
For people with disabilities, however, personal participation is often limited by non supportive
environments. Lack of knowledge on how to modify programs to meet specific needs, poor attitudes,
and unfriendly environments often creates insurmountable barriers to participation for many people
with disabilities. While innovative medical technology has increased the life span of individuals with

Essay about Todd Gitlin Summary on Media
Michael S. Earl Ms. Welch Eng 111 4177 Essay 2 10 March 2011 Gitlin s View Todd Gitlin is a
notable author born in New York City. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he
received a PhD in sociology and was heavily involved in the Students for a Democratic Society group.
Gitlin is now a professor at New York University where he teaches culture, journalism, and sociology.
Gitlin s selection, Supersaturation, or, The Media Torrent and Disposable Feeling, comes from his
book Media Unlimited: How the Torrent of Images and Sounds Overwhelms Our Lives (2001). In this
selection, Gitlin describes how private lives and domestic spaces have evolved from the seventeenth
century until now. He feels as though our once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have become immune to true feelings for individual images and stories, and thrive on the idea of
the next gossip that will follow. In this selection of the book, Gitlin discusses a seventeenth century
Dutch painter by the name of Vermeer. Vermeer was known for being able to fr[ee]ze instants, but
instants that spoke of the relative constancy of the world in which his subjects lived (Gitlin 558).
People collected Vermeer s paintings for display throughout their homes. Gitlin sees Vermeer as the
seventeenth century version of the media. In that time, the images painted were relative to the people s
era and private world. In today s world Vermeer would be the equivalent to a celebrity photographer or
movie director. If Vermeer, or any other artist of his time, were to see today s households, they would
find that the once private space inside the home is now much more dominated by images of the
outside world than what would have been possible in the 1600 s. As mentioned in Gitlin s research,
statistics show that, watching TV is the dominant leisure activity of Americans, consuming 40 percent
of the average person s free time as a primary activity [when people give television there undivided
attention] (Gitlin 560). Even the wealthier parts of poor worlds have access to some sort of media. It
would take someone from a third world country to be stunned by the fact that our lives are constantly
portrayed through television, radio, internet

The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Family in Cry, the Beloved Country
One cannot run from hardships, for they occur every day, appear suddenly, and can quickly consume
hope. Instead one must face these difficulties and overcome them. However, to rise above obstacles
alone would only cause further misery and despair. The struggler s family should rally behind him to
comfort and assist him in his time of need. In Cry, the Beloved Country, a 1948 contemporary novel,
Alan Paton uses parallelism to emphasize the importance of family because when individuals
encounter hardships they need support from others to help them.
Primarily, tribal families encourage those who suffer with kind words and actions. Stephen Kumalo, a
man filled with pain and suffering , speaks of the hope he receives from others when he says, There is
my wife, and you, my friend, and these people who welcomed me, and the child who is so eager to be
with us here in Ndotsheni so in my suffering I can believe (261). Paton uses the parallel structure
polysyndeton to show how many people from one s family will go out of their way to lift one s spirits
and renew one s faith in God. Cry, the Beloved Country shows readers that even in difficult times one
can find family eager to provide solace to those in need. Whenever there comes trouble, one can
always count on family to rekindle lost hope.
Although family cannot entirely relieve one of misery, their presence can soothe the pain. When
Kumalo hears of his sister s sickness and must leave

Advantages Of Competitive Advantage
Competitive advantage and sustainable competitive advantage
All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which
victory is evolved. By Sun Tzu
Tactics may represent a brief competitive advantage. Strategy might signify a constant competitive

for the customer, fulfilling their requirements with the goal that they will pay for the value to contend

Value chain analysis is a capable instrument for the organization to distinguish its important actions as
having the capacity to finish competitive need and make predominant routines. The value chain has
been utilized as an intense tool for management as it comprises of the various activity the company
uses to produce value and its profit. (Edwards, 2002)
Value Chain
The idea of the value chain is based on the process view of JULIA JUICE, the idea of seeing a JJ
organization as a system, made up of subsystems each with inputs, (mindtools, 2017) Conversion
procedures and productivities. Inputs, conversion procedures, and productivities include the
procurement and utilization of assets cash, work, materials, hardware, structures, land, organization
and administration. How value chain exercises are executed, decide expenditures and generate
benefits.

How Important Were The Purges In The 1930s To Stalin s...
How important were the purges of the 1930s to Stalin s control of the USSR? The purges that occurred
in Russia started in 1934 when Sergei Kirov, a leading politician, was murdered. Using his death as an
excuse, Stalin started a wave of terror known as the great purges which led to the death of thousands
of people. These purges contributed to Stalin s control over USSR, as it was able to put the Russians
in fear and eliminate Stalin s opponents. However, there were other key and integral factors that
helped Stalin gain control of USSR such as his use of propaganda, social and cultural policies, as well
as the Stalin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the purges, Russians were able to realize how brutal Stalin was. Since the Russians feared
Stalin, they restrained themselves from going against him. The Moscow trials were often recorded and
shown to the public to ensure that everyone is aware of what would happen if they attempted to
oppose Stalin. In many occasions, people would report their neighbors and even their family members
of criticizing Stalin. This was done in order to create a good image of themselves, and show their
loyalty to the communist government in hopes that it would prevent them from being purged or
getting sent into gulags. Due to the frequent reports and accusations, 1.2 million people were shot and
another 60,000 people were sent to gulags where most of them died because of the harsh working
conditions and the lack of basic necessities. Thus, the purges helped Stalin retain his control over
USSR because the purges created fear in Russians to the point that they would go to great measures
such as accusing their families of betrayal to Stalin just so that they wouldn t be purged or sent to
labor

Summary Of The Book An Invisible Thread
Your book An Invisible Thread was very inspiring and a heartwarming story of a friendship that has
reached thirty years and brought life to an over scheduled professional and hope to a hungry and
desperate boy. When you first met Maurice on a New York City street corner, you had no idea that you
were standing on the edge of an incredible and unlikely friendship that would naturally change both
your lives. As one lunch at McDonald s with Maurice turns into two, then into a weekly occurrence,
you learn heart wrenching details about Maurice s dreadful childhood. Scattered throughout the book
is also your own story of your tempestuous childhood. Every now and then, something about Maurice
s struggles reminds you of your past, how your father s alcohol induced rages shaped the person you
became and led you to Maurice. As your friendship grows, you offer Maurice simple experiences he
comes to treasure: learning how to set a table, trimming a Christmas tree, visiting your nieces and
nephew on Long Island, and even having homemade lunches to bring to school. ... Show more content

between urban and rural poverty? In what ways is privilege obvious in An Invisible Thread? What

with today? The title, An Invisible Thread suggests several meanings about the bonds that connect us

  • 2. Organized Crime In The 1800s Organized crime has been present in the history of the United States and can be traced back to the streets of the early 1800 s. Organized crime occurs when a group of people congregate together and plan to commit a series of crimes to make money, usually illegally. Organized crime groups have evolved over time from small rackets to grand organizations like the Italian Mafia. Crime particularly began to become prominent in urban areas during the prohibition. Organized crime is still just as visible today as it was back in the early 1800 s. The first successful organized crime group was the Forty Thieves of New York. This group formed as hundreds of immigrants came together for their own protection and financial gain. Organized crime became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Hume Q. Explain Humes criticisms of the cosmological argument (25 marks) The cosmological argument is based on the principle of causation. In particular, it is put forward that any existent thing must have a cause or reason for its existence and that there cannot be more in the effect than there is in the cause. Hume challenges these assumptions in his Dialogues. There are three main critiques that Hume makes of the argument. Firstly, he has general concerns about the way it is structured, and believes that this structure is fallacious. Secondly, he has more specific concerns related to causation and finally he raises challenges to do with the concepts of contingency and necessity. Hume s challenges to the structure of the cosmological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So the term necessary being makes no sense, any being claimed to exist may or may not exist. In Hume s own words All existential propositions are synthetic. Q. To what extent was Hume successful in his critique of the cosmological argument? (10 marks) Hume makes some very important challenges to the Cosmological argument. One of the key areas he questions is the argument s dependence upon what Leibniz named, the principle of sufficient reason. In this principle an adequate explanation must be a total explanation. The universe requires an explanation of itself as a whole but many would say, as Russell later told Copleston: Then I can only say that you re looking for something which can t be got, and which one ought not to expect to get. Also if we are only entitled to talk about causes when we have had experience of them, then this argument would seem to be over stretching itself in speculating upon what it cannot know. On the other hand, there is of course a problem with stopping at a certain point and saying that we should seek no further explanation, in that it is a basic presupposition of all scientific work. However, even though a principle of rationality is that we can find an explanation for things, there is no guarantee that there will be one. So, I think Hume significantly weakens forms of the argument that depend on the principle of sufficient reason. However, I think that Hume s criticisms of a necessary being ... • 4. Abigail Adams Analysis The author of this document is Abigail Adams, a white female that is married to John Adams. She lives in a time where women have no form of representation, and they live in the shadow of men. Because of this, Abigail takes up a woman s traditional role and performs activities such as manufacture clothing for her family, soap making, creating gun/cannon powder for her husband, and other chores for the benefit of her household (Adams, Paragraph 12). Fulfilling this role has shaped her by securing her inferiority to her husband and other males. She as a woman lacks power both socially and politically when it comes to the opposite gender; however, it is just this that has cultivated her attitude towards her government, the male sex, and even her own spouse. By requesting that her husband remember to give rights to women, it shows that she was brave enough to present her opinions even though they were unwelcomed (Adams, Paragraph 9). She is headstrong in the sense that she is willing to rebel if she does not receive the proper representation that she is asking for. Also, by mentioning that the women would rebel, Abigail displays her intelligence because she could foresee the inevitable future if women s rights were not improved (Adams, Paragraph 9). She sees the world for what it is, unjust. Moreover, her social and political inferiority did not result in ignorance. Based on her vocabulary, writing style, and comprehension/expression of such complex ideas, she reveals that she is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 2017 UEFA Champions League final, there were fans drawn from both Real Madrid and Juventus. The final attracted many people as many people flocked to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. There are however some differences between the two events. The UEFA Champions League attracted more fans compared to the Super Bowl. In an organization each and every individual brings its own experience, managerial and effective skills. Classical Organizational theory: Popovich (2010) said that in this theory, the concentration mainly goes in how an organization can be structured in effective manner. These three are believed to be major contributors of organization theory, Henri Fayol, Lyndall Urwick Max Weber. But they all given same form of structure which was Bureaucratic. Organizational behaviour plays an integral role in organization s progress, economic growth, and productive results . Those people who work in organization, they are literally born in there educated in organizations. They also learn and grab most of their material possessions from organizations and die as members of organizations. Majority of our activities are regulated by organizations, called governments. The family is the basic cell of the government, she explains, it is where we are trained to believe that we are human beings or that we are chattel, it is where we are trained to see the sex and race divisions and become callous to injustice even if it is done to ourselves, to accept as biological a full system of authoritarian government. Truly, it should not come as a surprise to us that societies which are rooted in male dominance over females are in no way peaceful or democratic; as noted by Steinem. We are never going to have democratic countries or peaceful countries until we have democratic or peaceful families because you must teach men to dominate in order to maintain a male dominated system and that is a very ugly education, indeed, where the first to be dominated are those within men s own families who are different from them Domestic violence is the seedbed of all other violence based on ... By comparing the bat s depiction during both day and night, Roethke may be trying to convey that the bat is actually no more than a simple and peaceful being, which has been wrongly portrayed for years. From another point of view, the author could be wanting to convey, through the image of a bat, that everyone has a dark side . Roethke ingeniously does so in the final line of the poem with the latter s twist metaphorical ending; when mice with wings can wear a human face (Roethke, 10). As previously discussed, bats are usually associated with slyness and darkness, by making the bat wear a human face , Roethke is trying to express that bats can sometimes resemble humans and vice versa. Ultimately, humans can also sometimes wear a bat face and have a darker side. The author also gives the poem a very descriptive tone through a significant amount of imagery. For example, the metaphor; his fingers make a hat about his head (Roethke, 3), provides a detailed description of the bat s upper body in such a way that the reader is able to picture the bat as what Roethke wants him/her to picture it as. One could also infer that the author may again be trying to make the connection between bat and man; since men wear hats and not bats. Another metaphor would be; by day the bat is cousin to the mouse (Roethke, 1). Of course, mouse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Authoritative parenting is shown when parents use warmth, firm control, and rational issue oriented discipline, in which emphasis is placed on the development of self direction (Steinberg, 2017). My group members and I decided to focus on scenario one and we believe that an appropriate response to a situation, where a daughter disobeys her mother s rules of no boys in the house alone, would be using authoritative parenting. Not only that, but there are also words around the border of the scene. After my first look at this picture, I think that there is a strong feminist undertone here. A woman is the main focal point, and not only that but she is also about to kill a man. She is exuding power. This scene is reminiscent of a biblical story in the Old Testament where a woman drives a stake through a man s head during wartime. She is holding a hammer to the head of this man who we can see is very strong, and he cannot stop her. To create the contrast in this scene, the artist relied heavily on the use of lines. There is a boundary line that encompasses the entire picture. The fact that the boundary line of this piece is in a circle makes the scene feels as if it holds some sort of significance. There is a type of painting the tondo where the artist creates his/her piece with a circular boundary line. This style of art was very popular in Italy during the Renaissance and was usually used to convey religious ideas. This evidence would support the idea that this scene depicts a biblical story from the Old Testament. The artist also uses the method of hatching and cross hatching to give a sense of depth. The use of hatching is very heavily defined on the curtains around the backside of the tent. Cross hatching is used to define a shadow on the left side of the curtain. This effect makes it feel as though this area of the tent is farther away from the viewer s vantage point. The artist also uses hatching on the two main subjects to define their bodies even under their clothes. This method helps the artist contribute to the effect of contrast. We have become immune to true feelings for individual images and stories, and thrive on the idea of the next gossip that will follow. In this selection of the book, Gitlin discusses a seventeenth century Dutch painter by the name of Vermeer. Vermeer was known for being able to fr[ee]ze instants, but instants that spoke of the relative constancy of the world in which his subjects lived (Gitlin 558). People collected Vermeer s paintings for display throughout their homes. Gitlin sees Vermeer as the seventeenth century version of the media. In that time, the images painted were relative to the people s era and private world. In today s world Vermeer would be the equivalent to a celebrity photographer or movie director. If Vermeer, or any other artist of his time, were to see today s households, they would find that the once private space inside the home is now much more dominated by images of the outside world than what would have been possible in the 1600 s. • 44. The Beloved Country By Alan Paton Family in Cry, the Beloved Country One cannot run from hardships, for they occur every day, appear suddenly, and can quickly consume hope. Instead one must face these difficulties and overcome them. However, to rise above obstacles alone would only cause further misery and despair. The struggler s family should rally behind him to comfort and assist him in his time of need. In Cry, the Beloved Country, a 1948 contemporary novel, Alan Paton uses parallelism to emphasize the importance of family because when individuals encounter hardships they need support from others to help them. Primarily, tribal families encourage those who suffer with kind words and actions. Stephen Kumalo, a man filled with pain and suffering , speaks of the hope he receives from others when he says, There is my wife, and you, my friend, and these people who welcomed me, and the child who is so eager to be with us here in Ndotsheni so in my suffering I can believe (261). Paton uses the parallel structure polysyndeton to show how many people from one s family will go out of their way to lift one s spirits and renew one s faith in God. Cry, the Beloved Country shows readers that even in difficult times one can find family eager to provide solace to those in need. Whenever there comes trouble, one can always count on family to rekindle lost hope. Although family cannot entirely relieve one of misery, their presence can soothe the pain. When Kumalo hears of his sister s sickness and must leave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
