Dr. Showkeen Bilal Gul
What is Teaching?
The best approach to understanding the nature
of teaching is establishing a harmonious
relationship between teacher, student and subject.
Teaching is the activity of facilitating learning.
Effectiveness in teaching does not relate to
teacher’s age, sex, and teaching experience.

Defective Teaching Learning
Process

• Teaching isn’t an easy profession.
• Teachers must possess the skills necessary to teach young
students and keep them engaged and attentive throughout
a class.
• Micro-teaching skills are essential in teacher training
courses.
Microteaching
Dr. Allen and his group evolved Microteaching in
1963 in America.
5
What is Microteaching?
•Teaching of a small unit of content to the small group of
students (6-10 number) in a small amount of time (5-10
min.)
•To train inexperience student-teachers for acquiring
teaching skills.
•To improve the skills of experience teachers.
.
6
Microteaching Cycle
7
Step- I : Micro Lesson Plan (may take 2 hrs/ a
day)
Step-II : Teach 5 Min.
Step-III : Feedback Session 5 Min.
Step-IV : Re-plan 10 Min.
Step-V : Re-teach Another group 5 Min.
Step-VI : Re-feedback 5 Min.
---------------
Total 30 Min. (Appr.)
Characteristics of Microteaching
1) Duration of teaching as well as number of
students are less.
2) Content is divided into smaller units.
3) Only one teaching skill is considered at a time.
4) Provision of immediate feedback.
5) In micro teaching cycle, there is facility of re-
planning, re-teaching and re-evaluation.
6) It puts the teacher under the microscope
7) All the faults of the teacher are observed.
8) The problem of discipline can also be controlled.

WHY ARE MICRO-TEACHING SKILLS IMPORTANT?
• The different types of micro-teaching skills play a significant role in the
professional development of teachers. Here are a few points why micro-
teaching skills are essential:
• Trainee teachers get feedback from video records, supervisors or peers
directly, which helps them improve and develop their skills
• Microteaching helps teachers prepare themselves well in advance and get
themselves ready to face a real classroom. Through micro-teaching
skills training, teachers learn to become more confident and efficient before
they venture into the real world of teaching
• Micro-teaching techniques play a critical role in developing knowledge and
attitude in teachers, but most importantly, it equips teachers with certain
essential skills. These skills are essential for the modern classroom.
WHAT ARE THE SKILLS IN MICRO-
TEACHING?
• Some of the microlearning skills are as follows:
1.The skill of introduction
2.The skill of explaining
3.The skill of questioning
4.The skill of stimulus variation
5.The skill of reinforcement
6.The skill of illustration
7.The skill of blackboard writing
8.The skill of achieving closure
9.The skill of demonstration
What is Introduction Skill?
• 1)In introduction skill we have to introduce the topic
with our Students .
• 2)For this we ask few questions from students.
• 3)Basically we relate our topic with their previous
knowledge.
• 4)In our last question we get our topic and write it on
our black board.

We all live on earth, so we should have
knowledge about it. We can get it by using-
Globe & Maps.
Globe is a miniature model of earth. A map
is a representation of the earth’s surface on
paper. With a map, we can study any part
of the earth. Atlas is a collection of maps.
Main features of maps:
1. Scale: Relationship between distance on
the map and actual distance on the ground.
E,g. 1cm= 1km on ground.
2. Direction: While using a map it always
points to North.
3. Symbols: Maps denote different things in
an area with symbols.
E,g. Road, schools, Banks, Hospitals, etc.
Q1: Miniature model of
the earth is called?
Q2: What is the
representation of the
earth’s surface on
paper?
Q3: What is the
relationship between
distance on the ground
and distance on paper?
Q4: What do we use to
