Introduction:
•Irrigation may be defined as the process
of supplying water to land by artificial
means for the purpose of cultivation.
•Ordinarily water is supplied to land by
nature through rain but generally it is
not enough for the proper growth of
plants
What is microcontroller?
• Devices to control the actions and features
of a product.
• This system proves to be a real time
feedback control system which monitors and
controls all the activities of drip irrigation
system efficiently.
Why microcontroller
• Saves cost.
• Saves power.
• It makes the circuit compact unlike desktop or
laptop computer microcontroller.
• A chemical injection unit is used to mix required
amount of fertilizers,pesticides and nutrients with
water.
• It can control pressure of water when varying
speed of pump.
Define Irrigation?
Irrigation may be defined as the
process of supplying water by
artificial to agricultural fields for crop
production.
Types of drip irrigation:
•Surface irrigation
•Localized irrigation
•Drip irrigation
•Sprinkler irrigation
Surface Irrigation:
•In surface irrigation water is applied and
distributed over the soil.
•It require extensive ground levelling and slope maintenance.
Localized Irrigation:
• It is method of applying water that results in wetting only
a small area of the soil surface and sometimes only part
of the root zone.
• High efficiency rates can be achieved.
• It will allows a farmer to irrigate twice the area possible
with surface irrigation.
Drip irrigation:
• Drip irrigation also known as trickle irrigation or micro
irrigation
• To use water efficiently
• No water to run off or evaporation
• It reduces water contact with crop leaves, stems and fruits.
• Fertilizers can be applied more efficient.
Sprinkler Irrigation:
• Sprinkling is the method of applying water to the
soil surface in the form of a spray which is some
what similar to rain.
• Rotating sprinkler-head systems are commonly
used for sprinkler irrigation.
The components of microcontroller-based drip irrigation
system are
• Pump
• Water Filter
• Flow Meter
• Control Valve
• Chemical Injection Unit
• Drip lines
• Moisture and Temperature Sensors
• Microcontroller unit.
Block Diagram of Drip Irrigation System:
ADVANTAGES:
• This process can be installed in low water pressure
• This is very useful to all climatic conditions.
• It is economic friendly.
• This makes increase in productivity and reduces water
consumption.
• This is safest and no manpower is required.
• Require smaller water sources, for example, less than
half of the water needed for a sprinkler system.
DISADVANTAGES:
• Applicable for large size farms.
• Equipment is costlier.
• Require frequent maintenance for efficient operation.
• Have limited life after installation due to the deterioration
of the plastic components in a hot.
Application
• System can be used in gardens and provide proper
irrigation to garden plant.
• Can also be used in poly houses.
• The system can be used for study of crops under
different water and ph condition.
• System can installed in green house where different
parameters needs to be monitored and controlled
with small changes.
• They are nutrients in quantitative and in accurate.
CONCLUSION:
The Microcontroller based drip irrigation system proves to be a real
time feedback control system which monitors and controls all the
activities of drip irrigation system efficiently.
By using this farmers can save time.
We can save Man power
 Low cost and reliable system
Dependency on rainfall can be avoided
Improve quality and production efficiently

  • 3. Introduction: •Irrigation may be defined as the process of supplying water to land by artificial means for the purpose of cultivation. •Ordinarily water is supplied to land by nature through rain but generally it is not enough for the proper growth of plants
  • 4. What is microcontroller? • Devices to control the actions and features of a product. • This system proves to be a real time feedback control system which monitors and controls all the activities of drip irrigation system efficiently.
  • 5. Why microcontroller • Saves cost. • Saves power. • It makes the circuit compact unlike desktop or laptop computer microcontroller. • A chemical injection unit is used to mix required amount of fertilizers,pesticides and nutrients with water. • It can control pressure of water when varying speed of pump.
  • 6. Define Irrigation? Irrigation may be defined as the process of supplying water by artificial to agricultural fields for crop production.

  • 8. Types of drip irrigation: •Surface irrigation •Localized irrigation •Drip irrigation •Sprinkler irrigation
  • 9. Surface Irrigation: •In surface irrigation water is applied and distributed over the soil. •It require extensive ground levelling and slope maintenance.
  • 10. Localized Irrigation: • It is method of applying water that results in wetting only a small area of the soil surface and sometimes only part of the root zone. • High efficiency rates can be achieved. • It will allows a farmer to irrigate twice the area possible with surface irrigation.
  • 11. Drip irrigation: • Drip irrigation also known as trickle irrigation or micro irrigation • To use water efficiently • No water to run off or evaporation • It reduces water contact with crop leaves, stems and fruits. • Fertilizers can be applied more efficient.

  • 13. Sprinkler Irrigation: • Sprinkling is the method of applying water to the soil surface in the form of a spray which is some what similar to rain. • Rotating sprinkler-head systems are commonly used for sprinkler irrigation.
  • 14. The components of microcontroller-based drip irrigation system are • Pump • Water Filter • Flow Meter • Control Valve • Chemical Injection Unit • Drip lines • Moisture and Temperature Sensors • Microcontroller unit.

ADVANTAGES: • This process can be installed in low water pressure • This is very useful to all climatic conditions. • It is economic friendly. • This makes increase in productivity and reduces water consumption. • This is safest and no manpower is required. • Require smaller water sources, for example, less than half of the water needed for a sprinkler system.
  • 18. DISADVANTAGES: • Applicable for large size farms. • Equipment is costlier. • Require frequent maintenance for efficient operation. • Have limited life after installation due to the deterioration of the plastic components in a hot.

Application • System can be used in gardens and provide proper irrigation to garden plant. • Can also be used in poly houses. • The system can be used for study of crops under different water and ph condition. • System can installed in green house where different parameters needs to be monitored and controlled with small changes. • They are nutrients in quantitative and in accurate.

CONCLUSION: The Microcontroller based drip irrigation system proves to be a real time feedback control system which monitors and controls all the activities of drip irrigation system efficiently. By using this farmers can save time. We can save Man power  Low cost and reliable system Dependency on rainfall can be avoided Improve quality and production efficiently
