2. Leaflets: leaflets are a very good way for releasing important
information quickly and effectively. Some leaflets will contain
controversy, bias views, information etc. what most of them have in
common is that they are written very clear and they will include all
sorts of typography techniques. For example I have a leaflet from a
college all about sleep and how to sleep better.
If you look at the front cover you can see the design is very basic
and relevant. It includes a picture of the moon and its clearly night
time. This fits with the whole theme of sleep, also it includes a
large title ‘Sleep Difficulties’ It is very clear and easy to read as the
white text colour stands out on the black. The college has also
labeled the York college logo. This is to make sure the viewer knows
that its York college official.
3. Typography: The typography techniques used In this
leaflet is suitable and has it made the leaflet easy to
read. Firstly the headline is a nice light blue, the font is
very simple and inviting. Secondly it has bullet pointed
sections. This has made it look easier to read and it looks
less chunky. This is effective because when the reader
looks at it they will feel less over whelmed. The leaflet is
designed for college students and college students are
young and they wont care for chunks and chunks of text
on a page. Students will want to know quick facts to keep
them interested.
A picture has been included to demonstrate an upset
person trying to sleep, just like the reader who has
sleeping issues. The picture relates to the theme and the
viewer it works very well. The picture works well because
it makes the leaflet look more interesting then just text
on a page. The picture is also of a young adult just like
the students at the college, so it all relates.
4. Firstly, the target audience for this particular product would be children.
This means that the instruction's would have to be quite simplistic. As
you can see here the instructions are very straight forward. There isn't
much text and there is a lot of pictures with simple demonstrations. Its
also all in steps to make sure you are doing everything in the correct
order. The designer has also included a picture of a plane at the top of
the page to show you what its supposed to look like when its done. The
designer has also added and labeled all the parts you need to build the
plane. This is so you make sure you have all the pieces. This is good
because if you buy one of these and it didn't label all the parts and your
missing apart it will cause lots of issues and confusion. If you label the
parts the consumer will know straight away what's missing so they can
send it part or contact support.
Secondly, the typography techniques the designer has used work really
well. This is because, the text on the step by step is in capitals to bring
clarity to the instructions it also, allows for an easier read. This is good
because some of the readers may have poor vision. Overall the text all
together looks spaced out, easy to follow and there isn't much of it. This
is exactly what you want from an instruction book like this. The user will
want to get this plane built fast they wont want to be reading something
that’s going on and on.
5. Here I have a how to guide I have found. Firstly when coming to designing a how
to guide you will want to engage the reader. Doing this you'll need to make it
standout using bright colours, pictures and cool fonts will help grab the readers
attention. Looking at this poster you can see the designer has used lots of colour
and lots of cool fonts. The whole layout of the how to looks easy to follow and it
gets to the point. The whole idea of this how to guide is for you to start reading
from the top and finish at the end. All the main important pieces of text is ether
in bold or in a red. This is effective because it lets the reader read the important
bits on text first and then the extra detail after. This allows for a fluent and more
enjoyable read. Using diagrams helps the reader visualize what's going on and it
and it makes it more interesting to read. The designer has also used text like ’rock
your finals’ using language like this draws in the audience. This is good because
this poster will be put round a college so you want to get the attention of the
younger crowd using language like this. Also the font looks really funky and the
students might like that as it doesn’t look boring. When design things like this
you have to be careful not to offend anyone as this could cause problems. It may
even lend to you getting sued and your reputation could get jeopardised.
6. Here is an online article I found on the guardian, its about the
saddle worth moor fire. If you look at the layout has a whole
is a very straight forward easy to read design. It starts with
the headline and then it releases a bit more information
about the headline underneath In bold. This allows for the
reader to take note of the article and it gives them a little
more information before they make the decision to read on.
Followed by this is a video they have included. Visuals like
videos and pictures really help engage the reader instead of
just a page full of text. It also helps visualize what you are
reading. The main articles text its self is set out into short and
snappy paragraphs filled with the information you need to
learn about what's happened. If it was laded out with just a
big block of text it would look boring. Including quotes and
social media screen shorts also keeps the reader engaged as it
adds for a more interesting read. When writing an article you
will need to keep to the code of practice. This is to make sure
you aren't breaking any rules that could cause you lots of
issues. So no copyright and no offending anyone as it could
ruin your reputation as a designer and writer and you could
lose your job.
