Tech house is a genre of house music that emerged in the 1990s and combines elements of techno and house. It features prominent kick drums, rhythmic buildups, and sampled vocals from 1980s/90s songs. The tempo typically ranges from 120-128 BPM, making it suitable for dancing but not as fast as other genres like hardstyle. The tech house scene involves young adults dressing uniquely and dancing at festivals, clubs, and warehouses often while using drugs like MDMA. Album covers for tech house EPs tend to be abstract with minimal text and colorful shapes that match the underground and groovy nature of the music.

2. Released on the 30 august 2015 trouble maker is a small Ep that contains 3
groovy bassline tracks. The main aim of this album is to make you dance. The
songs have a summer vibe to them and the songs sound abstract in themselves.
Archie samples strange bird sounds on the song ‘Troublemaker’ that gives it that
summer feel.
If you look at the cover its self there isn't much text at all. The main focus on
this album cover is the colour and the abstract shapes. The album itself links
with the songs this is because the tracks on the ep are different to what you
would normally hear on the radio. The sound is underground and groovy so the
album cover designer wanted to replicate that on the album cover. The
audience of this music will be into abstract and different things because they
are listening to strange, groovy, underground music. This audience isn't going to
want to settle for anything mainstream as they are listening to this to get away
from that mainstream sound. The songs on this this album fit the dance bpm
range. One of the songs on this Ep is 125bpm. Most dance tracks are around
120 to 128.
3. Released on Jan 29, 2018 endless jack is a small Ep that contains 4 groovy tech
house tracks. Similer to Trouble maker this ep this ep is filled with
underground, summer sounding tracks that make you want to dance.
If you look at the album cover you can see that it is abstract and there is
minimal text, just like the trouble maker ep. The album itself is colourful and it
cotains shapes. There is a theme running through these ep’s and they all seem
to contain this abstract look and they involve lots of shapes. If you look at the
speed of the track ‘jack endlessly’ it is at a simular speed to the Trouble Maker
ep. I think again the audience of this Ep will enjoy the abstract look of the
album as its differnt to mainsteam album covers.
4. Sunday club was released on the 8 May 2017. Sunday club contains five
groovy tracks this holds the most songs out of the two. The album still
has that warm summer vibe just like the rest of the albums do.
If you look at the design its again very abstract, colourful and its very
quirky. These kind of designs crop up a lot in this kind of genre as the
music itself is underground and a bit different. This music attracts crowds
that are looking for something a bit new and I think this designer has hit
the nail on the head. This is because no one will of seen this design
before as it is very obscure. This will attract the underground scene as it
has a very quirky different look to it and that's what they are seeking.
Again just like the other two albums there is minimal text. If you look at
the text the font is quite quirky also. This also adds the the abstract theme
of the album.
5. Representation
Tech house is a genre that Is made purely for you to escape everyday life, have a laugh and dance. This music has massive
following of young adults that like to dress funky, drink, dance and take drugs. This music has no political views or deep meaning,
it’s a feeling. Its designed to make you dance and its supposed to make you happy. I think this genre is important as it entertains
millions of people across the globe and its aiding you to create happy memory's with friends. This music is also a great way to
meet people, if you go to any of the DJ gigs or if you are just out clubbing having a good time you will meet people that could
turn into a great friendship or relationship. Its music that brings strangers together. The songs themselves are all around the
same BPM rounding from 120 to 128 BPM. This is enough speed to have your feet tapping and your arms swigging.
The only time this genre ever got in the way of anything was back in the 90’s when Margaret thatcher got involved with shutting
down raves that played dance music. Back then people used the genre to escape from the harsh reality life was for the youth
back then. Margaret thatcher's ways left the richer, richer and the poor left off worse. There was a lot of pressure to get
successful back then and youth used to use raves and the intoxicating music to enjoy themselves, wear and do what they
wanted. I think that’s still like that now a days youth use music and go to DJ events to dress a bit different and get away from the
struggles off life.
6. TECH HOUSE
Tech house is sub genre of house music that came about in the 90’s. Tech house in its simplest description is a genre that contains some of techno’s dark, heavy, trance-inducing grooves
combined with the funk and the slower swing of house music. In this article I will be talking about the sound, scene and the feeling of this up coming, infectious genre.
The sound
Tech house is a genre packed with strong kick drums, rhythmic build ups and sublime drops. Tech house producers like to include classic old school vocals stripped from the 80’s and 90’s. For
example ANOTR’s - Let Me Tell You sampled Loleatta Holloway’s ’Love sensation’ ANOTR turned that classic into a booming, hard hitting, foot stomper. With the song getting currently 134,852
plays on Spotify and 82k views on YouTube. The song was also dropped in a famous sound cloud mix by Michael Bibi. Tech house can range from sounding dark and hypnotic to soft and funky. For
example you have Jamie Jones who has a warm, funky vibe to Michael Bibi who has a darker, harder hitting style. The good thing about this genre is that every tech house artist has their own
musical flare that they interoperate into their work. There's also quite a bit of disco that gets thrown into tech house tracks for example Indeep - Last Night A DJ Saved My Life (Nautica Dub) has a
very funky disco feel that gets played about in raves over in London, Ibiza etc. Overall the sound does a good job of getting you off your behinds and on the dance floor. The BPM in this genre is
around 120bpm to 128bpm, this is enough speed to get you moving. This is a lot different to genres like Hardstyle as Hardstyle is 135bpm to 150bpm, this is a lot faster then Tech house. Tech
house is supposed to get you grooving and two stepping. You cant groove to a song that’s pounding at 150bpm. Tech house has no political view’s or deep meaning. Tech house is designed to
make you feel happy it’s also a great way to escape, dance and a its good way to meet people and form friendships. I think its important to have something to escape to as it takes your mind off
the struggles of life. Its also important to meet new people and socialize as you could create friendships and that creates better memory's for you to enjoy when you are older.
The scene
The scene is riddled with young adults, students, weekend warriors and old schools ravers. The scene has always been about having fun, dancing, dressing funky and escaping from reality's harsh
ways. The style has influence from the 90s people love to dress in funky shirts, see through tops and lots of glitter. The sound is underground and its not what you would normally hear on the
radio. This attracts party goers that are looking for something a bit different from mainstream music. People who want to be different tend to dress different, this is why everyone dresses in all
this outgoing, funky gear. The scene is also riddled with drug users, this will be because of the crazy light shows, euphoric basslines and rhythms. Drugs have been a massive part of the scene
since the late 80’s including drugs like MDMA and acid were frequently used. MDMA also known as pills, E’s, tinger’s, disco biscuit’s are the scenes most popular drug as it releases intense
feelings of euphoria. The drug also keeps you awake, this keeps hardcore party goers going to the early hours of the morning. Tech house events normally end at five or six in the morning so
some ravers will use that as an extra kick to keep going. Tech house ravers nowadays are legal and are set up by lots of different company's and labels. The events can be held at festivals, fields,
clubs, warehouses, aircraft hangers, beaches the list goes on. An example of a massive tech house event is Elrow. Elrow is a over the top party that gets held all over the world, in places such as
Ibiza, London, Miami, Croatia etc. Tech house fans go to get wowed by confetti, smoke machines and the paid actors that roam about the rave pulling stunts and dancing. Elrow event goers dress
up in their funkiest outfits, if you are wearing something that’s bland you look out of place.
Overall this genre is a great way to escape and let of steam. I think everyone should experience a rave and have a listen to the music as it is a good way to socialize and dance. Tech house recently
has taken off in the dance music scene and its even starting to hit the mainstream scene. Camelphat is an artist that produces Tech house and they released a song called cola. Cola has almost
reached 50 million views on YouTube. There are articles out there stating that Tech house is the new EDM, this may drive the underground scene away. Until that day comes ravers will always find
a new genre to dance to.
