2. ABOUT ME
I’m Heather Wilkinson, I’m sixteen, go to South Downs
College where I study Multi-Media Journalism. I work at
Monsoon Accessorize as a sales assistant for which I
have made posters for, including our charity week In
which I was in charge of, using my graphics knowledge.
Although I'm not sure what I want to do after college, I know I
want to travel and I would like my job to be creative. I have
thought about university, maybe Bournemouth or Brighton
but I don’t know if I want to go yet or what I would do but it
would involve more creativity than written work.
I like talking to people and feel as though I have the skills
to work with others to get the best out of a situation, but I
also think that when I have a way that I want something
to look I try to make that happen the best way I can.
3. FUTURE
Visual Culture at Brighton Uni looks interesting as it involves lots of different aspects of
media and art as I would want to do something that involves a lot of practical work
because I think I work better like that. The entry requirements are DMM which I think
would be achievable. There is no placement year, in the first year students get to learn a
lot about the history of art and the core modules and the final year is more independent
studies. It costs £9000 a year.

4. FUTURE
Retail Marketing BA (Hons)
The course combines marketing and management, as I work in retail now the subject matter is
relevant to what I already know. A placement year before the final year gives you opportunities in
businesses like Walt Disney World in the USA and Superdry. I’m not sure if I would want to pursue this
as a career though because I don’t think I want to work in retail in the future.

5. IDEAL JOBS
ART EDITOR
An Art Editor makes sure that magazines are appealing to the reader, they look good and are
easy to read, additionally need to make it visually appealing.
• They need to be creative with expert IT skills with an understanding of the customers and
readers to make sure the work is completed at a high level of standards as well as
finishing in time for tight deadlines.
• To get into being an art editor many people often have a degree in an art subject.
However, there are no set entry requirements into becoming one, having an artistic talent
that can be shown to employers through a portfolio of work could get someone a job
without a degree.
I would like a job like this because my ideal job would be something creative and that I
could in-cooperate my own ideas into and have a say in what the final piece looks like.
6. IDEAL JOBS
LOCATION FINDER
A location finder finds ideal locations for film/TV/music shoots as well as negotiating fees, terms, conditions and
managing the location during the shoot.
To do this some of the skills I need are:
• Have plenty of initiative and be able to work within budgets
• Be able to visualise and find potential locations
• Have excellent organisational skills
• Have good negotiating/communication skills
• Have good problem solving skills
• Be reliable and enthusiastic
• Be flexible and able to work long hours
Creativeskillset.com says you don’t need a formal qualification but a health and safety course can be useful. The
best ways to get into this job would be to start out as a runner, to gain experience then progress to a location scout
or assistant location manager
7. CAMP
AMERICA
Camp America allows people too work and live in one of the summer camps in the USA.
You can look after the kids or be a ‘Campower’ which are roles such as ‘kitchen and dining hall’,
’office’, ’maintenance and grounds keeping’ and ‘housekeeping and laundry’. I think I would
want to be in the office or kitchen/dining hall as I wouldn’t be very good at looking after the
children.Although I don’t have any office experience I feel like I would be more than capable to
do the role- which involves taking calls from parents concerned about their children, organising
mail etc.The kitchen doesn’t require much experience however some knowledge of kitchens/
restaurants is helpful, as I used to work in a café I feel like it may support the application.
To apply for the Campower programme you have to be a student in full-time education so I
would have to get into University to apply.

8. WHAT I CAN DO
I created this bookmark to
be aimed at all age groups,
specifically that like the
story, by including most of
the main characters it can
appeal to a wide target
audience.
This is a portfolio I have created to demonstrate
some of my work online, as I am still adding to it, it
isn’t published; it includes photos I’ve taken.

9. WHAT I CAN DO
• My magazine is called ‘IC’ which stands for ‘Independent Culture’.
The cover has an image of my model on with the story of her being
a fashion designer as the main story. ‘Review’ is in bold font as that
is my double-page spread subject. My double-page spread has the
masthead ‘Independent cinemas under spotlight’, spotlight is the
film I am reviewing so is used as a pun.
assignment.html - this is the link to my blogger where I did some
research into the type of magazine I wanted too get inspiration
from.
12. TARGET AUDIENCE
To make sure my magazine was as appealing as it could be to my
target audience I created a questionnaire so I could use the results to
base my subject content around their interests, for example the
results suggested that many people don’t have much money left at
the end of the month but like to go out so ‘10 free exhibitions near
you’ covers both those bases.
Having a target audience is very useful gives the mag guidance and
foundation on what I want to achieve such as having a review for my
double-page spread because that is what they said they like to see.
