2. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
Throughout all of my production pieces I have shown continuity by using the
same font and colour scheme. The reason I have followed the house style and
ethos of the magazine is that it makes the magazine recognisable to the readers
of the magazine.
I have followed a number of codes and conventions of regional magazine which
will be explained in more detail during this PowerPoint, however sometimes I
have had to go against the codes and conventions In some areas in order to
make my magazine original.
3. Front cover
Firstly my front cover conforms to the codes and
conventions of regional magazines as I have used an
image of the area where the magazine Is based as the
main image, in this case Ramsgate harbour.
My masthead is written in a large bold font.
My front cover image includes little text, this goes against the
codes and conventions of regional magazines, however when I
experimented with more writing it made it look too cluttered.
Having the bar code on the bottom right
hand side of the front cover is a convention
of a regional magazine. As shown on the
right hand side
The advert sticker on my front cover is a
conventions of most magazines as well
as regional magazines.
On the front covers of most
magazines there is a small serif
font describing what the
magazine is about
The small descriptions/subtitles are
conventionally shown at the sides of the
front cover so they don’t take away from
the masthead.
Another way that my font cover follow
conventions of magazines
4. Advert Page
My advert page conforms to the
conventions seen in other regional
magazine as firstly . The images of the
representatives are displayed on the
left hand side of the page. And images
are mid close ups against a plain
background. Also having the number
and email of the representatives
underneath the picture is a convention
of the advert page seen in other advert
pages
The colour scheme of the
advert age is very simple using
colours like white black and
blue again conforming to the
conventions of regional
magazines .
At the bottom of the page it shows the
link to their Facebook and Twitter
page.
5. Double page spread
My double page spread
conforms to the codes and
conventions of regional
magazines is that the articles
is written in three columns
across the double page
spread.
The page number is
displayed at the top of
the page on the right
hand side
Having a column on the right
hand side describing a sub-
story can be seen a lot in
other regional magazines
like Thanet Life .
One way that my regional magazine goes against the codes and
conventions of regional magazines is that I have chosen to use
three images to go with the article instead of just having one main
image. The reason for this is that I felt using three images gave the
reader a better image of what the area is actually like.
Having a small ‘read on’
cell line at the bottom of
the page on the right
hand side is a convention
of double page spreads
across a large range of
genres including regional
and music magazines
