1. Media and Materials Assignment:
!
For our media and materials assignment, we were required to make two different posters
that would be useful in a classroom. We were advised to make them pertaining to our unit plan
subject, and given two different means to making them. The first poster was to be made on
powerpoint. We had to change the powerpoint’s size to that of a vertical poster and use different
graphic tools on the application to design and create our poster. We then had to go to our
college’s technology resource room to print it out as a full sized poster.
!
The second poster was created on a website called Glogster. It is an application that has
templates and free posters to design. We had choices from many templates or to make our own
design for our poster, and it enables you with the ability to link and embed videos, pictures and
more online resources within your design.

Media and Materials Assignment Review:
!
I have always enjoyed making posters for classes, but I have always just used the same
old poster board and cut out letters method. I have used powerpoint with pictures before, as a
means to put them together and print them out on one sheet, but the idea of using it to actually
design a poster was really appealing. This way, you don’t have to focus on the tiny details, such
as printing and cutting out your pictures the correct size, because on a powerpoint you can easier
2. move and resize them to your liking. In this assignment, I was able to take advantage of
powerpoint’s many embedded graphics, and typefaces. For my Glogster, after I really began to
understand how to use it, I really enjoyed the way it connects different technological
applications, such as videos, and sound with the idea of a poster. Both of these assignments
would fall under the project based learning pillar of 21st century education, as well as the
critical thinking pillar. We were given a task to do, and we proved that we could carry that task
out by creating an original project. In a classroom, I could use this type of assignment in place of
having a student use a poster board and markers to make a poster. Teaching children to use
Glogster, I could make posters for them to explore and learn, and eventually have them create
one of their own. In this way, students would be able to find their own pictures and videos to
feature and teach someone else with. I might modify the instruction time working on a poster,
and I would have to make sure that students had prior knowledge on how to use powerpoint. I
would make sure that students understand that Glogster was just like a poster but online, and I
would help them look through different templates to see how they can work with their subjects. I
think that this would help children get excited again, about the now worn out idea of making a
poster.
