How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research
1. How did you use new media technologies in the construction
and research,planning and evaluation stages?
Research
My main source of research was from YouTube and the research that I did into current
pop videos and the way that they are portrayed through the media. Used it as a tool to
compare the three main types of video. Narrative, Artistic and Performance. By using
YouTube I now also have a better understanding of the way that YouTube monetizes its
content to those who would like Ad Free access. My
knowledge has expanded from last year as I have now
been using the advanced search tool to refine the sort of videos that I
am looking for and also to look at different genres of video such as Jazz
and Acoustic. Which I wouldn’t have usually explored. Pinterest has also been a
valuable tool for my ancillary texts as it has given me a wide range of images that I can research but it has
also made it really easy for me to collect these images into one place where they are easily accessible. If I
had used old media to do the same thing I would have had to search through magazines for adverts, cut
them out and they create a collage. So not only does Pinterest save on time but also resources.
Planning
Tumblr has been key to my Planning as it means, that everything
that me and my team did was documented somewhere that was
easily accessible to all of us. We have also been able to look at
our AS coursework and planning and improve form the mistake
we made a year ago. Which has created better planning and therefore a better
production. This, alongside having access to the cameras we would be using when
shooting helped us to see the shot sizes that were available along with the lenses that we
would be using. This meant that we could do test shots to make sure we could fit in all of
the mise-en-scene we felt was necessary to include as well as the action of the actors
that was key to or narrative. We also had the opportunity to play with the manual
settings on the camera and vary the aperture of the lenses, meaning that the light levels we used were key
which made it easier when wanting to colour grade our piece as we had already manually matched the
lighting. Compared to my AS trailer for a horror film. I think my camera work has improved as well as my
planning skills with what equipment I feel would be mandatory and what would create the best shots.
2. Construction
I have had little experience with Premier and now feel that after using the programme in
excess I have a much better understanding of how the software is used as a creation
tool. This has helped me to also create other parts of my project as I have used aspects
of what I have learnt in premier and transferred it to create my ancillary texts in
Photoshop as both programmes are create by adobe. The basics and layout are very similar therefor
transferring my skills has been a relatively calmprocess until premier crashed on
us, therefore it has been tough to complete our project, yet this has also given me
lots of experience with troubleshooting problems in Premier as well as Photoshop.
Putting our video together was easier than I first thought as the concept of using
layers really confused me, yet as I progressed and with group support I quickly
picked up the skills needed to edit. With new media technology, although there
are the issues of crashing and losing data, It would have taken us a lot longer if we
had filmed on a film camera and had to cut bits of filmand stitch them back together.
Evaluation
I have always struggles using Prezi as I find the layout very confusing in the way
that your Prezi is all on the same screen and navigation is very precise.
Whereas, with PowerPoint I find that it is simpler to work on each
screen individually. Yet I find that Prezi’s overall product is one that
looks a lot more professional. Compared to old media, I would have had to
hand write a presentation on a flip chart with diagrams as well as cutting out my
ancillary texts and burning my Music video to a CD to be played through a DVD player.
I have also learnt from PowerPoint how to create self-playing PowerPoint’s where I
have recorded the timings and saved them as a Windows Movie Export. I can now
transfer these skills to other Microsoft software as the basic layout is very similar. This
has clearly improved from my AS work where I would only be able to upload a
PowerPoint with simple Animations and Transitions.
