Materials Evaluation
Where are we now?????!
 Done needs analysis
 Set goals and objectives
 Selected and developed materials
 Organized the contents
 Now it’s time for
EVALUATION.
What is it?
 Evaluation is mainly determining the effect of the
materials that have been prepared on those who
will use them (Tomlinson, 2003).
 There are three types of evaluation (McDonough
and Shaw, 2003):
 External evaluation
 Internal evaluation
 Overall evaluation.
External evaluation
 An overview evaluation of materials where the
cover, the blurb , the introduction and the table
of contents are investigated.
 Task 1:
 In 2 groups and using the book and grid handed to you,
 Look at the items mentioned above and
 Fill in the grid
 You have 10 minutes.
Internal evaluation
 A more detailed in-depth evaluation of the materials.
The main purpose of this evaluation is to investigate
whether the components examined in the external
evaluation stage match with the tasks in the
materials.
 Activity 2:
 In the same groups please,
 Check the materials given to you an
 Fill in the grid.
 You have 10 minutes.
Overall evaluation
 It is an overall assessment of the suitability of
the materials.
 Task 3:
 Look at the book and the materials all together then fill in
the grid. You also have 5 minutes.
Presentations
 Please each group will present a brief evaluation
of the book and the material they have.
Summary
 In this presentation three stages of evaluation
were briefly mentioned and applied.
 We hope that it would be of benefit to you in
assessing your own curriculum.
Thank you.
