Market Research Report- Lauren Statter
The market research ask was carried out to find a suitable
target audience and a style of content for a new music
magazine. The market research was done though primary
research survey gathering qualitive and quantative data. I
also showed me what music magazine were popular and which
were not so popular.
My first question was “What is your age?” I chose
this question to help me identify my target
audience for my music magazine. The two
categories used were 16-21 at 90.91% and 40 or
over at 9.09%.This proves ha he music magazine
will attract to teenagers.
My second question was “What’s your gender?” I
chose this question to help me identify my
gender audience for my music magazine. The
gender I am going to aim the magazine at is
females as the female percentage is at 80% and
the male percentage is at 10%.This also shows me
that if my magazine is aimed at females I will use
softer colours such as pink and purple.
My third question was “Are you employed?” I
chose this question to help me identify how
much I should sell my music magazine for
because if people are employed they will be
able to spend more money on a magazine
than people who are not employed. My music
magazine has to be relatively cheap because
the percentage of unemployed people is
72.73% and the percentage of people who are
employed was 27.27%.
My fourth question is 'do you read music
magazine?'. In my results I found out that
27.27% of the people who took my survey said
they did. This helps me with making my music
magazine because it lets me know how big the
audience will be for my music magazine.
My fifth question was 'How often do you read music magazines?' In my results I found out that
72.73% of the people who took my survey said that they do not read music magazines. From my
results I also found out that the amount of people who read a music magazine once a week was
9.09% and the amount who read twice a week was also 9.09%. From these results it would help me
determine when the magazine would be issued from example once every week or once a month.
My sixth question was 'What music magazine do you read?'. From my results I found out that
11.11% read Q, 22.22% read NME, 11.11% read Kerrang! And 66.67% said none of the above. These
results helped as it would help me determine the target audience and the genre of my music
magazine to get the most amount of people to read it.
My seventh question was 'What genre of music do you like?' From my results I found out that the
majority of people who took my survey voted for Pop music as it was at 63.64%. Another popular
genre of music that was selected from my survey is indie at 54.55%. These results would help me
determine the genre of my music magazine to get a big audience and to attract more people to it.
My eighth question was 'What artists do you like?'. From the results of my survey I found out that
the most liked artist on the survey was Coldplay as 63.64% of the people who took my survey voted
on them. The second most liked artist from my survey was a tie between Florence and the Machine
and Oasis. These results will help me determine who I will put in my music magazine to get the
biggest audience and it also helps with the genre and target audience of the music magazine.
My ninth question that I asked was 'Do you prefer a paper copy of a magazine or a digital copy. From
my results I found out that 54.55% of the people who took part in my survey said they would prefer
a paper copy of a music magazine. These results would help me determine is my music magazine
should be made online or as a paper copy from these results the music magazine would be make
into a paper copy.
My final question was 'How much would you pay for a magazine'. From my results I found out that
63.64% of the people who took my survey would pay between £1.01-£2.00 for a magazine, 18.18%
of people said they would pay between £0.00-£1.00 and 18.18% of the people who took my survey
said they would pay between £3.01 or more for a magazine. These results would help me determine
how much my music magazine would be which would be between £1.01-£2.00 as more people are
willing to pay this much to get a magazine which could increase the audience.
