The document summarizes the results of a survey about audience preferences for a proposed rock music magazine. Key findings include:
- The target audience is 16-30 years old, primarily male and Caucasian.
- Rock and indie rock are the most popular genres of music among respondents.
- Most respondents read magazines monthly or less often and attend gigs a few times a year.
- £2-3 is what most would happily pay for the magazine.
- Articles on new releases, gigs/festivals and music news are most interesting to readers.
- A monthly publication in an informal style focusing on bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers would align best with the audience.
This is my target audience questionnaire analysis. I asked ten students to participate in answering 11 questions for my questionnaire. I did this so i could find out what i could put on my music magazine, that would appeal to my target audience.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2. Age
My target audience is between 16 - 30 years of age. In my questionnaire I made
sure that my age range options covered my target audience's age range. The
majority of the people said that they were between 15-20 with a percentage of
90.32%. One person said they were between 20-25 and two people said they
were between 25-30. No one answered with over 30 which means that every one
taking the questionnaire is in my target audience age range.
3. Gender
54.84% of people said that they were Male. 32.26% said that they Female and
12.90% said they were other. This means that a variety of different genders took
this questionnaire. My target audience was originally aimed at males but a third of
the results were from females.
4. Ethnicity
70.97% of people said that they were Caucasian so I know from this that the
majority of people who will be reading the magazine will be of this ethnicity. Apart
from this I had one Black African, one Black Caribbean, one British Indian and one
British Pakistani which shows a wide variety of people from different ethnicities
answered this.
5. Prefered genre of Rock
Rock and Indie Rock were both the most popular genres of music. They both had
23.91% of people answer them. It tells me that I should focus my magazine on
these sort of genres because this is what the majority of my audience are into. If I
focus on Rock and Indie Rock bands more people will be interested in reading my
magazine which will allow it to be more popular. Also a smaller amount of people
liked the other genres such as Psychedelic Rock and Punk Rock. This means I
should also include areas on these genres of Rock but I should not include them
as frequently as Rock and Indie Rock because they are not as popular.
6. How often people read magazines
33.33% of people said that they read magazines less than once a month.
However 26.67% of people said they do read them once a month. This helps me
gain an understanding of how frequently my music magazine should be published.
7. How often do the audience goes to gigs
67.74% of the people go to gigs. In this 67.74%, the majority of people go to gigs
a few times a year. This information tells me that I should include a regular article
in every issue based on upcoming gigs and festivals because this will attract my
audience to read it.
8. How much would you happily pay for a magazine?
£2-£3 was the most popular answer as 48.39% of people said this is what they
would pay. The second most popular answer was £1-£2 but only 22.58% of
people answered this so £2-£3 was what the majority would happily pay. I will
therefore set my magazine price between £2 and £3.
9. Why do you enjoy reading magazines?
Most people said that they like reading music magazines because they inform
them on upcoming gigs and festivals. 27.12% of people chose this option. The
other popular answers were finding out about latest artist releases which 20.34%
of people agreed to and latest music news which 22.03% of people agreed with.
This tells me that I should include these three areas in my music magazine as this
is what attracts my audience the most and is what my audience find interesting.
10. What is your Social class?
Most of the people said that they are from a middle class background which
means that my magazine will be read mostly by people in this social class. The
percentage of people that said that they were in this class was 51.61%.
11. What colour do you think would be most suitable for a Rock magazine?
I gave a range of simple colours which I thought were appropriate to use. I didn't
include black or white in this list because those colours will be used anyway. Red
was definitely the colour which people prefered because 51.61% of people agreed
that this is the colour which should be used in a rock magazine. About 9% of
people agreed to each of the other colours which suggests that red is the colour I
should use.
12. Do you like reading about the latest artist releases?
Having a section about artist latest releases is something I should consider
including in my magazine. This is because 74.19% of people said they would like
to read about artists latest releases.
13. Where do you find out about new artists?
The most popular way that people find out about new artists is by using online
music websites. 32% of people agreed to this and only 12% of people said that
they find out about new artists through music magazines which tells me that this
feature wouldn't be that popular because 88% of people find new artists on other
media products.
14. Which artist(s) do you like from this list? (Tick as many as you like)
The answers for this question were spread out over 11 possible choices. The
bands that had the most answers were Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Arctic Monkeys
and Foo Fighters. This means that I will focus my magazine around similar bands
because this will attract my audience into reading the magazine.
15. Do you play a musical instrument?
61.29% of people said that they don't play a musical instrument so including
articles on learning new ways of playing or tips should not be a large area in my
magazine. Instead I could maybe advertise having lessons and buying
instruments so that the magazine encourages some of its audience to learn an
instrument.
16. If you play a musical instrument, what do you play?
This question was only for those that played a musical instrument so this question
was skipped by half of the people who took the survey. The results I got from the
people that answered it showed that the most common rock instruments are all
played by my target audience. The most popular instrument was the electric guitar
which signifies that I should include information on electric guitars more than the
other instruments. Vocals was least popular so therefore I would probably not
include this in my magazine.
17. Type 3 words that describe Rock music?
This question would give me some ideas of what to name my magazine. The
name had to be related to rock so I created this question which gave me different
words. From the results I could decide which one I thought was most suitable and
was most catchy and appealing. I chose the name “THRASH” in the end because
it describes the sound of rock music. It is a unique name aswell that has not been
used on any professional magazine before.
18. How many pages would you expect to be in a Rock magazine?
I gave a range of answers to choose from to stop any unnecessary answers and
to make sure my magazine would have a page count similar to professional
magazines. The most popular answer was 50-70 pages which is also the amount
of pages in a Kerrang magazine. Based on these results I will make my page
count within this range.
19. Would you prefer to read the magazine in a formal or informal style?
96.77% out of the 31 people who did my survey said they would prefer an informal
style of writing which definitely tells me my articles should be informal.
20. Have you ever read any of these music magazines?
61.29% said that they had read one of the 5 magazines I had asked them about
which tells me that more than half of the target audience have previously read
magazines similar to mine. Kerrang was the most popular answer magazine read
by the audience and Kerrang is similar to my magazine. This tells me that the
audience are likely to read my magazine because they like reading Kerrang.
21. What do you dislike about Rock music magazines?
This question is designed to let me know what not to include in my magazine so
that it is as enjoyable as possible. The answers that were similar and came up
often was that the magazines often have to much writing and are often to
confusing. This tells me that I should try and give the audience the most amount of
information but in the most simple or most interesting way. This can be done by
including images or should sentences that stand out from the rest of the body.
When I am giving the information though I should be careful not to confuse the
audience by using too much music jargon.
22. How often would you like a Rock magazine to be published?
The most popular answer with 51.61% is once a month. This means that I will
publish the magazine monthly to satisfy the audience.
23. What free item would you like to recieve with a Rock magazine?
Most people said that they would like a free T-shirt with the magazine. This allows
me to understand what my audience like to get free. This information tells me that
my audience would be interested in looking at music T-shirts sales in the
magazine as well. This gives me the idea of having a page on merchandise.
24. What font would you prefer to read?
The results for this question were spread almost equally across the answers I
provided. This lets me know that all of these fonts are popular and therefore it
would be fine if I used any of them. Arial was the most popular which means that I
will use this for my body because this is the most amount of text in the magazine.
