2. How does your media
product represent particular
social groups?
Social Group
The target audience of my music magazine is of
teenaged girls aged between 15-25. The audience
would be girls who are interested in the pop genre
of the music industry. I chose this category and the
genre through my market research report as
people responded to ten questions that I came
with and put onto Survey Monkey and came out
with the best results to make my music magazine a
success.
Audience
The target audience is mainly teenage girls. Because
of this I have used mid formality in language used in
the magazine. For example I have used slang and
language that teens use such as “Don’t”.
I have used this feature to make the audience more
interested in the magazine as it makes it easier for
them to understand which makes it a successful
magazine.
Examples from my magazine:
J.S: “Yeah it was so much fun.”
“I also used to sing at gigs to try
and get my name out there but
it didn't work.”
House Style/Colour Scheme
The colour scheme that I have used in my magazine clearly
attracts a certain target audience. My music magazine
attracts mainly teenage girls. This is clearly highlighted
through the use of different shades of pinks and a light grey
on the front cover of the magazine. This adds to the house
style as these colours are used throughout the magazine. I
have also used the colour red in my magazine to make the
magazine attract more people. I have also used the colour
red on my front cover for some of the cover lines to make
them stand out. I have used three different fonts through
the pages so the magazine does not look boring and keeps
the reader interested. These colours clearly highlight that it
is a pop magazine. I have used the light grey colour on my
front page to make the logo of the magazine stand out and
the white logo has a light pink box around it.
Layout/Photos
Layout- The layout of the photo on my front cover is well
balanced and the use of the rule of 3rds is used which adds to
a professional level and makes it look like a real music
magazine. I have used a simple layout for the audience to be
able to understand the magazine and I have used a typical Q
and A interview for my article on my double page spread
which makes the magazine easy to understand.
Photos- The photos that I have used in the magazine are
mostly females which adds to the target audience and the
genre of the magazine is pop. This highlights the target
audience of being mainly female as males are not very
interested in knowing everything about girl bands whereas
girls are.
