Dr. Maria Liakata and her team are developing a tablet application to collect longitudinal conversation and writing data between people with dementia and their caregivers. By analyzing patterns of language change over time in areas like vocabulary, syntax and coherence, they aim to develop computational techniques for effective, low-cost dementia diagnosis and monitoring without intrusive medical tests. The application will use images from the past to facilitate dialogue and written responses, engaging people living with dementia while generating data to study language alterations linked to the condition.

“Community Wellbeing Services tender – involvement team”
This engaging presentation will demonstrate how Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) practiced: People first, working together for patients in everything we do. The team of service users, carers and staff supported the development of a Community Wellbeing Service bid from June to September 2014. All involved were valued as experts and important in the development of a robust tender submission. We are looking forward to sharing with you the journey experienced by the people involved in developing the service delivery model including the lessons learnt. We are hoping that you will be inspired to involve others more and to consider how our learning can support your organisation to take the next steps.

Designing Social Prescription Services to Support People with Long-Term Condi...Ulster University
This paper outlines a small study undertaken to assess user perspectives on the concept of social prescription services. Social prescribing is a mechanism linking patients in primary care with non-medical sources of support within the community. The work presented here supports the idea of patients becoming ‘active partners’ by providing health literature that is designed to suit their health literacy along with a service which introduces patients to actual programmes and services in their local area which suit their specific condition. By using innovative digital technology patient engagement is encouraged leading to greater self-care and independence in relation to long-term condition management.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Up the Ratios Bylaws - a Comprehensive Process of Our Organizationuptheratios
Up the Ratios is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap in STEM education for underprivileged students by providing free, high-quality learning opportunities in robotics and other STEM fields. Our mission is to empower the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and problem-solvers by offering a range of educational programs that foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
At Up the Ratios, we believe that every student, regardless of their socio-economic background, should have access to the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in today's technology-driven world. To achieve this, we host a variety of free classes, workshops, summer camps, and live lectures tailored to students from underserved communities. Our programs are designed to be engaging and hands-on, allowing students to explore the exciting world of robotics and STEM through practical, real-world applications.
Our free classes cover fundamental concepts in robotics, coding, and engineering, providing students with a strong foundation in these critical areas. Through our interactive workshops, students can dive deeper into specific topics, working on projects that challenge them to apply what they've learned and think creatively. Our summer camps offer an immersive experience where students can collaborate on larger projects, develop their teamwork skills, and gain confidence in their abilities.
In addition to our local programs, Up the Ratios is committed to making a global impact. We take donations of new and gently used robotics parts, which we then distribute to students and educational institutions in other countries. These donations help ensure that young learners worldwide have the resources they need to explore and excel in STEM fields. By supporting education in this way, we aim to nurture a global community of future leaders and innovators.
Our live lectures feature guest speakers from various STEM disciplines, including engineers, scientists, and industry professionals who share their knowledge and experiences with our students. These lectures provide valuable insights into potential career paths and inspire students to pursue their passions in STEM.
Up the Ratios relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue our work. Contributions of time, expertise, and financial support are crucial to sustaining our programs and expanding our reach. Whether you're an individual passionate about education, a professional in the STEM field, or a company looking to give back to the community, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
We are proud of the positive impact we've had on the lives of countless students, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher education and careers in STEM. By providing these young minds with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we are not only changing their futures but also contributing to the advancement of technology and innovation on a broader scale.

Sensing language for dementia
monitoring and diagnosis
2. Why it is important to find innovative ways for diagnosis and
monitoring of dementia
• It is estimated that 41% of people currently living with
dementia do not have a formal diagnosis.
• Both false positive and missed diagnoses can be
detrimental to both dementia sufferers and their carers,
as well as the economy overall.
• Current methods for diagnosis are expensive and
intrusive (including brain scans and expensive blood
and spinal fluid tests)
• Innovative and non-invasive methods are sought for
early diagnosis and monitoring of progression.
3. Language, dialogue and dementia
• Studies have shown that language usage can be affected
by dementia.
• Interpersonal communication, emotions and humour, all
conveyed by language, can also be affected.
• Studies of authors before and after the onset of dementia
compared to authors who never had dementia showed a
dramatic change in :
• Vocabulary usage
• Use of syntax
• coherence between sentences
4. What our project is about
• If we could observe and automatically analyse
language changes over time for everyday people, we
could have an effective, low-cost, non-intrusive means of
dementia diagnosis and monitoring of disease
progression.
• How can we do this in a way that engages people
living with dementia?
5. Collecting dialogue data and written logs based on images
• The importance of dialogue and communication for
people living with dementia is becoming increasingly
better understood.
• Sarah Reed from http://www.manyhappyreturns.org/
has developed a set of cards containing everyday images
from past decades to help facilitate the communication
between people living with dementia and their carers
and families, often from a younger generation.
6. Our project goals
1. Create a platform for collecting longitudinal
conversation data between people living with dementia
and their carers as well as written logs by people living
with dementia on the basis of meaningful images from
the past.
2. Use the longitudinal data collected to develop
computational techniques for studying patterns of
language change in terms of syntax, vocabulary and
coherence.
