Dhaka | Aug-15 | The Smart Village InitiativeSmart Villages
"As part of the series of regional engagements in South Asia, Smart Villages is organising a workshop on off-grid rural energy provision in Bangladesh. The country has the fastest growing programme in the world with an estimated 70,000 solar home systems (SHS) installed per day. More than 3 million SHS have been installed in off-grid rural areas in the country bringing electricity to an estimated 13 million people.
Dr John Holmes, Smart Village Initiative
The aim of the workshop is to gain insights from the experience of a wide variety of stakeholders in Bangladesh who are involved in rural off-grid energy provision in the country. This workshop will offer a number of potential lessons to other countries within the region. The workshop provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities presented by expansion of solar home systems (SHS) and mini-grids to off-grid rural communities and the challenges faced in this expansion. During this workshop we will also investigate the potential impact of energy access on rural livelihoods in the country.
The workshop is being jointly organised by Smart Villages and Practical Action."

Open Source, Open Data: Driving Innovation in Smart CitiesDataWorks Summit
A city is a system of systems with independent objectives and governance for transportation, energy, healthcare, safety, security, and infrastructure. A smart city relies on data to be the connectivity between independent functions, and open data to be the building blocks for citizen-centered design, inclusion, and sustainability. Big Data is not about size – it is about finding new life-changing and transformational opportunities using data.
From Smart Mobility and Smart Energy to improved Public Health, Safety, & Governance – this session will discuss how cities are delivering better citizen services leveraging open source technology with a consistent governance and security framework that spans the data center and the public clouds.
Data integration is the key to ensuring that a city’s attempts to become an intelligent system of systems doesn’t result in a system of silos. A single view requires the capability to integrate transactional data from traditional data stores with person generated data, unstructured data, and machine sensor (IoT) data. The key to managing such a range of data is a capability that allows for both scaling analytic workloads and the preservation of detailed data with unexplored value, as both are vital to future growth potential.
Key Takeaways:
Understand the common use cases that tier 1, tier 2, and emerging cities are undertaking to deliver tactical results and progress towards policy objectives.
Understand the role of a shared catalog, unified security and consistent governance in building a secure, trusted, and connected capability.

The international system is crumbling not because new powers are expanding their domains but because the United States is shrinking its domination. This tends to turn America's declining hegemony into exploitative domination, which in itself decharacterizes the process of hegemonic domination. Arrighi and Silver find it difficult to imagine a global leadership in East Asian financial centers willing to tackle the task of providing systemic solutions to the systemic problems left by American hegemony, especially as the region also faces with social contradictions that somehow add up contradictions fueled by the United States. While stating that East Asia Still does not sketch any new path of development that points to an alternative to the dead end we live in today, Arrighi seems convinced that the alternative will come out.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MODEL SERVICE ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE TO ANALYZE STUDENT ...AM Publications
The application of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) model may integrate one information system to others. Also, SOA can handle the complexity of hardware platforms, software, and other services development in the college. There are many services systems exist in the university, for instance student satisfaction system by questionnaire. Student satisfaction is very important to be used as an evaluation of the college. Student satisfaction was analyzed using Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) by using quadrants for each competency. This study discusses the application of SOA and IPA model to analyze student satisfaction towards the course. Student satisfaction data was taken using questionnaires sent to the student satisfaction information system for 70 respondents for each course. It is found that sending the data using SOA and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is very efficient with the average value of page generation time for 1,5414 seconds. In addition, the analysis of student satisfaction towards each course is ranged from 3,72 to 4,09 with a satisfaction scale of 1 - 5. Therefore, the level of student satisfaction at the course is categorized in the satisfactory scale.

Up the Ratios Bylaws - a Comprehensive Process of Our Organizationuptheratios
Up the Ratios is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap in STEM education for underprivileged students by providing free, high-quality learning opportunities in robotics and other STEM fields. Our mission is to empower the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and problem-solvers by offering a range of educational programs that foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
At Up the Ratios, we believe that every student, regardless of their socio-economic background, should have access to the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in today's technology-driven world. To achieve this, we host a variety of free classes, workshops, summer camps, and live lectures tailored to students from underserved communities. Our programs are designed to be engaging and hands-on, allowing students to explore the exciting world of robotics and STEM through practical, real-world applications.
Our free classes cover fundamental concepts in robotics, coding, and engineering, providing students with a strong foundation in these critical areas. Through our interactive workshops, students can dive deeper into specific topics, working on projects that challenge them to apply what they've learned and think creatively. Our summer camps offer an immersive experience where students can collaborate on larger projects, develop their teamwork skills, and gain confidence in their abilities.
In addition to our local programs, Up the Ratios is committed to making a global impact. We take donations of new and gently used robotics parts, which we then distribute to students and educational institutions in other countries. These donations help ensure that young learners worldwide have the resources they need to explore and excel in STEM fields. By supporting education in this way, we aim to nurture a global community of future leaders and innovators.
Our live lectures feature guest speakers from various STEM disciplines, including engineers, scientists, and industry professionals who share their knowledge and experiences with our students. These lectures provide valuable insights into potential career paths and inspire students to pursue their passions in STEM.
Up the Ratios relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue our work. Contributions of time, expertise, and financial support are crucial to sustaining our programs and expanding our reach. Whether you're an individual passionate about education, a professional in the STEM field, or a company looking to give back to the community, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
We are proud of the positive impact we've had on the lives of countless students, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher education and careers in STEM. By providing these young minds with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we are not only changing their futures but also contributing to the advancement of technology and innovation on a broader scale.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
