What makes you tick?
Is it the…
1. Need for a G & T at 5 o'clock?
2. The tin of ginger biscuits by your bed at night just
in case you get indigestion?
3. The requirement for a bone china tea cup with
Lady Grey tea?
4. The curtains remaining slightly ajar and the
window left open at night?
5. A hot bath every evening?
And who knows this information?
Have you thought about which Nursing Home
you would like to go into if and when the time
comes?
Have you been to any homes which make you
think you would love to move in now?
How do you think you will feel?
We spend so much of our lives planning but do
we ever stop to think where we may end our
days?
Is it a case of…
• It’ll never happen to me
• I’ll be long gone
• I’m sure my children will make the right
decision
On the premise of not being able to make a
decision, having lost capacity – who would
you want to do so?
Have you got your Lasting Powers of Attorney in
place and appointed?
So often we leave it to chance.
One of the biggest decisions to make at a time
of significant vulnerability and we leave it to
chance…
We as Professionals speak and advise our clients
and patients everyday.
We attend conferences and talk about it…
But how will it look and how will it feel for you?
At iMind we want the people who live with
dementia to receive care which is:
i - Inspired
M - Moments of delight
I - Innovative
N - Normal
D - Dignified
It is exactly what we would want for ourselves.
At iMind we are looking to step out of
conventional and offer something different…
Having travelled extensively and studied other
models around the world, we are passionate
to deliver a different approach.
At iMind we have secured the only licence in the
world to replicate the Hogeweyk model.
We want to add and develop their approach
with other methods of caring.
We want to be involved in active research which
will evidence what happens when care is
delivered in such a way.
The project will be centred in an environment of
open access and community integration.
It will cater for different tastes and different
lifestyles.
The common denominator will not be the
diagnosis but the sense of normality for each
and every resident.
The facility will open to residents across the UK.
The site will integrate an eco ethos not only
through the structural build but in how we
care for the environment in which we create.
Admission will be based on agreed ‘indicators’
but this will only be for the latter stages of
dementia.
It is not intended to cover the varying and
earlier stages of the disease process.
Our objective is for people to remain at home
until the ‘model of care’ becomes necessary.
The transition from home to the model creates a
continuum of normality and security.
How will it be funded?
- Private
- CHC
- Our own charitable foundation
Where are we now?
Project team in place
The site is currently under negotiation
The funding is secured for the build
Anticipated opening in 2021/22
If we are to achieve our dream, we will need to
know our residents.
That means you need to know who you are –
who your loved ones really are.
We need families to agree to a different format
of care.
We need the wider society to recognise and
appreciate a different approach to care.
We are designed in Cornwall
Inspired by incredible people
Fuelled by giving back
Thank you
