Nestle Maggi was introduced in India in 1982 as a subsidiary of the global FMCG company Nestlé. It created an entirely new food category of instant noodles in India and retained leadership in this category until the early 2000s. Maggi 2-minute noodles has a market share of well over 90% and had no serious rivals for years, although ITC later released a ready-to-eat pasta product. The brand only started featuring celebrities like Preity Zinta in endorsements within the past 25 years.
