What is supervision ?
Bernard and Goodyear (1998) offer
this definition that has come to be
accepted within the counseling
profession:
Supervision is an intervention that is
provided by a senior member of a
profession to a junior member or
members of that same profession.
What is Supervision & Admin
Some overlapping of supervisory and
Administrative functions is inevitable.
As we know, supervisory service is particularly
concerned with instruction and its improvement.
It is directly concerned with teaching and training.
Including teachers and students.
Where as Administration is aimed at the same
goals as supervision but not directly , Budget
making , construction of building, personal
administration and so on are all intended to
improve the educational programs.
What is Administration?
Administration can be defined as a
• Process comprised of
• planning,
• Organizing
• Leading
• controlling00
PlanningPlanning
•Planning is determining in advance what is to be
done.
• how it is to be done, when it is to be done, and
who is to do it.
• It encompasses setting objectives as well as
making day to day decisions on how these
objectives can best be achieved.
• Hence, planning involves the determination of
both ends and means.
Plans should be concise and easy to
understand.
Instructions to individuals and departments
must be incorporated into the plan.
Side effects and implications of the actions
envisaged should be examined.
All alternative courses of action should be
considered.
Plans should not exceed for too far into the
future; accurate prediction of the distant
future is simply impossible.
PRINCIPLES OF PLANNING
ObjectivesObjectives
Objectivesof thePlan should be‘SMART’
S= SPECIFIC
M = MEASUREABLE
A = ACCURATE
R = RELEVENT
T = TIMED
WHY DO WE PLAN?
Planning process provides clarification.
Change can be anticipated and offset.
Gives direction and focus attention on objectives.
It reduces overlapping and wasteful activities.
Continuity of action is improved.
Evaluation and control are facilitated.
WHY DO WE PLAN ?
Important decisions are taken unhurriedly
Decision makers are forced to meet and discuss
problems
The feasibilities of objectives are studied in depth.
Activities will be integrated and coordinated.
To look at strengths and weaknesses.
To encourage team spirit.
Determination of aims and objectives.
Assessment of human and material resources.
Selection of better alternatives.
Implementation.
Evaluation.
Re-definition and re-determination of aims and
objectives.
TYPES OF PLANS
Strategic: Long time frame, broad in scope, input
from many organizational units, formation of
organizational objectives).
Operating or Tactical: Short time frame, a narrow
scope, assume that a set of organizational
objectives exists.
Sectional plans (Planning of sections).
TYPES OF PLANSTYPES OF PLANS
Indicative plans (Planning as a result of indication).
Integrated plans
Imperative plans (A kind of central planning).
CLASSIFIED BY TIME FRAME
Long-term Plans (involve in direction
of the organization’s means and
ends).
Intermediate-term plans (accept the
general structure and strategy as
given).
Short-term plans (structure, strategy,
quantities as fixed).
POSDCoRB
Planning : It involves developing
an outline of the things that must
be accomplished and the methods
of accomplishing them. The
activity attempts to forecast
further actions and directions of
the organization.
POSDCoRB
Staffing: It involves the whole
personnel function of selecting,
training, and developing the staff with
right at right time, for right position,
and maintaining favorable working
conditions
POSDCoRB
Directing: It is closely related to leading,
includes the continuous task of making
decisions, communication implementing
decisions, and evaluating subordinates
POSDCoRB
Coordinating
It is the function of watching that every thing
occurs in conformity with established goals
and express standard in terms of Quantity ,
Quality and Time
POSDCoRB
Reporting: It verifies progress through
records, research, and inspection;
ensures that things happen according
to keep those to whom the chief
executive is responsible
POSDCoRB
Budgeting: It is in the form of fiscal
planning, controlling, and accounting
the costs. Budget is the final decision
about a plan and its priority.
