This document describes the long wall and short wall method for calculating quantities of work in load bearing structures. The method involves calculating the center line length of walls, then determining the actual lengths by adding or subtracting half the wall thickness. For long walls, the actual length is the center line plus half the thickness at each end; for short walls it is the center line minus half the thickness at each end. These lengths are then multiplied by the wall thickness and height to determine the volume and quantity of materials needed.
