Truman And The Cold War
The United States came out of World War II ready to concentrate on domestic issues, but
unfortunately, the more pressing issue of the Cold War needed addressing. Democracy and
communism challenged the world order and the United States and the USSR took center stage on
determining the world s economic, social and political future for the next forty five years. Each
American president handled the power differently, acted on what he thought was in the best interest of
the United States, and took on the Cold War through words and actions that often translated to real
war but never directly with Russia.
The basis of the idea was clearly spoken in a 1946 cable by U.S. peacekeeper George F. Kennan
during the after World War II management of U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fingerprint Identification and Verification Systems
What is A Fingerprint?
What is Fingerprint Recognition?
There are mainly two systems using fingerprints as a biometric:
Fingerprint identification system (FIS) and fingerprint verification system (FVS)
Fingerprint identification system (FIS) vs fingerprint verification system (FVS)
The algorithms that are used to recognize fingerprints are the pattern matching method and minutia
methods .
pattern matching method :
Pattern matching method verifies the identity of the patterns by directly comparing the objective
fingerprint images with the registered image.[ 1]
Graphical center of fingerprint image (not necessarily defined by the fingerprint core) is cropped a
fixed distance and compressed for subsequent match. The greater the difference between the stored
template and the live comparison, the less likely the match.
http://sales.fingertec.com/download/info/whitepaper 01.pdf minutia method:
Minutia method uses feature information of the terminal points and separate points of ridges of the
fingerprint and their relative positions. [ 1 ] this algorithm is capable of improves the quality of the
fingerprint ridge and
Extracts the characteristic points(end point ,Branching point) from it .
Comparison of previous fingerprint Recognition algorithms:[2]
Template Size vs. Search and Match Speed:
The size of a minutia template is directly related to the number of minutia extracted.
The size of the pattern based template is directly related to the image

The Importance Of Memory And Short-Term Memory
Roger goes to his friend s wedding where he is introduced to over 50 people. Roger s goal at this
wedding is to meet new people, and remember as many names as he can. In order for him to get their
names into long term memory, he first needs to get them past sensory, and short term memory. For
him to be able to do this, he needs to come up with some strategies to remember these names. He will
learn when it is necessary for him to rehearse the names over in his head, group some of them
together, or making connections to the names. By testing out these strategies, we will learn how
information moves from sensory memory to short term memory, and hopefully to long term memory.
All information makes it to our sensory memory, but it only lasts less than one second. When Roger
got to the wedding, there was probably tons of people in all different outfits, but he will probably
never remember any of it. If he were to meet a woman who he thinks is attractive, her outfit could
enter his short term memory so he can spot her out later during the party. If we pay attention to the
information in our sensory memory, in information is sent on to the second stage, short term memory
(Doyle Portillo Pastorino 271). The memory will last only about 20 30 seconds when it reaches the
short term memory. Because the short term memory can hold about seven plus or minus two items,
Roger could have payed close attention to the color of her eyes and hair too. Maybe when he leaves

What Is The Theme Of Mrs. Sen By Lahiri
Mrs. Sen is the sixth story of this collection in which Lahiri has portrayed proficiently and
successfully the problems of immigrants such as displacement, restlessness, discrimination and
marginalization in the migrated country, even after having found a place to settle in. This story
exhibits the troubles faced by an Indian wife in a foreign culture. Mrs.Sen is one of two main
characters in this story. She is a friendless woman who hopelessly misses her native place Calcutta,
her home. Her husband took a job as a professor in a New England town. Life is very different for her
there. She refuses to learn to drive because it s not her interest, but the rejection also limits her
experiences in her new country. She becomes a babysitter for ... Show more content on

Her yearning for the Indian sensibility bears the stamp of a vagrant searching for her lost home. She is
as if in self exile. Thus, the collection of short stories by Jhumpa Lahiri are based on the predicaments
and inner turmoils of Indian immigrants in the United States. These characters have been uprooted
from the secure life mode of a traditional set up and are struggling to cope with the new environment
by learning new strategies and cope up methods, but in order to provide an alternate life mode, such
learning has to be lived and experienced at first hand. Her fiction establishes a certain Indo American
cultural link, in the post colonial context. She had made a search for identity with an emotional
empathy through her female protagonists. The greatness of her writings is in making the tale of human
idiosyncrasies thought provoking and soul searching. Jhumpa Lahiri does not explicitly points out the
remedy. She has presented all women characters as they are in real life, but these characters, in one
way for the other, teach the lesson of humility and equality, and motivate us to retain the good of the
past in the face of the challenge of life with the head held high almost all the stories end on a positive
note, with the hope of a

Denmark Vesey
Denmark Vesey was an African American leader of an attempted slave insurrection in 1822. After
many years as a slave, he won $1,500 in a lottery. Vesey used this money to purchase his freedom. He
used his intelligence, energy, and luck to acquire considerable wealth and influence in South Carolina.
All of these factors helped lead to the largest attempted slave revolt in American history. David
Robertson s book Denmark Vesey outlines his life as a slave, to his freedom, to his execution, and the
consequences of the aftermath. South Carolina was one of the only states in which the black slaves
and abolitionists outnumbered their oppressors. Denmark Vesey s slave revolt consisted of over nine
thousand armed slaves, free blacks, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their church meetings, they planned to assassinate the governor and other highly elected state
officials. They also intended to set the city on fire, and then murder the entire white population of the
city, including women and children. Only the lives of those who were captains of the ships that would
help the rebels escape to either Haiti or Africa, would be spared. The plot of the revolt is a significant
incident in American history, with just the thought of it actually occurring enough to terrify citizens of
South Carolina. The Denmark Vesey rebellion is most remembered because of its closeness to success.
The plot internally fell through when informers betrayed him, and confessed to their masters the plans
that had been made. By the end of the summer of 1822, Vesey, along with 34 other leaders, were
arrested and tried. They were then convicted and executed in a place that is still unknown to us.
Although the revolt never took place, the slaves and abolitionists definitely had the resources and
ability to do it. David Robertson obviously thoroughly researched the topic, with 40 pages of notes,
and pictures at the end of the book. He took a very limited source of information, and turned it into a
historical detective novel. That in itself is credible, even though the book is relatively short. Denmark
Vesey gives a good foundation of information on the subject, but is lacking in certain areas.

Comparing the Works of Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto
Family happiness is something that many today focus on as an absolute requirement for happy and
healthy growth in children. And indeed, it is right that this should be so. In reality, however,
challenges such as poverty and racism often affect the happiness that families might experience. When
comparing the works created by Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto, however, it becomes clear that
family happiness is not so much dependent upon wealth as it is upon freedom of expression and
freedom from fear. At first glance, the family in Rockwell s painting appears quite happy, with the
father and mother both smiling at the sleepy children. The children also seem peaceful and warm in
their bed, and the room appears secure and solid against any elements that might attack from outside.
This is, however, where the sense of overprotection begins to reveal itself. The overprotected nature of
the children s life is revealed in several visual elements in the painting. First, and most obvious, the
mother leans over the children as she puts them to bed. The father also stands close, looking down at
them, with a fond smile on his face. While it is clear that they love their children, the parents physical
orientation towards their children can be said to hover. Another interesting element in this regard is
that the father accompanies the process of putting the children to bed. He stands next to his wife as she
works with the children. He does not help, but gives the impression that his

Hippocampus Synthesis Essay
The hippocampus is a component of the brain that is used for memory. Neuroscientist now know this
because of a patient who received surgery on his hippocampus and it caused his memory to be altered.
The study of the patient led to many new discoveries of human memory and how it is specifically
related to the hippocampus.
The patient known as H.M. had surgery on his brain. He received surgery because of a crack on his
skull he got as a little boy was causing seizures. The crack is what caused him to have seizures,
blacking out and lose control of bodily functions (Kean, 2014). The seizures caused him to dropout of
high school making him feel desperate is what caused him to get surgery. The surgery was performed

His explicit long term memory was mainly affected. Meaning that his mind without a hippocampus
was only able to make initial impressions hindering him from keeping the memories for long period of
time and the memories would simply just disappear (Kean, 2014). This is why he was unable to
remember specific facts, events and what made him Unable to form new memories (Kean, 2014). The
surgery also affected H.M. s short term memory. He was able to Remember a random numbers for 15
minutes , with the use of rehearsal this task would lengthen his short term memory but he would forget
that the task had even taken place 5 minutes later (Kean, 2014). Since the sensory memories were
unable to reach the hippocampus this caused him not to properly store short term memories or long
term memories. This is what caused him to only retain information long enough From moment to
moment To finish a sentence (Kean, 2014). H.M. was asked to trace a third star in the narrow space
between the outline of two centric ones while only using a mirror (Kean, 2014). The first drawings he
did horribly but improved after many attempts even though he had

Elizabeth Barrett Browning Influences
The Victorian Period is marked by Queen Victoria s reign from 1837 to 1901. The Romantic Period
preceded the Victorian Period and served as a transition period between 20th century literature. The
salvaging of themes in classical literature and medieval literature were repurposed into the writings of
the English Victorian Period. The Victorian writers exhibited well established styles of writing from
previous eras, while at the same time pushing various customs to new and interesting directions. Every
aspect of society was unstable and suspect to change because of industrialization and technology
evolving. The economy expanded, the Church was being undermined, and factory production
increased. Some writers saw the rapid and unpredictable change ... Show more content on

Browning wanted to write a novel poem. In her book called Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Spiritual
Progress, Linda Lewis states that Mrs. Browning s poem would fill a volume and it was the romance
she had been hankering after so long, written in blank verse (20). In 1856, Barrett Browning published
Aurora Leigh which is her longest work. In her article Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Expatriate
Women Poetry, Allison Chapman states that Aurora Leigh represents a decisive shift in women s
poetry away from the English poetess and toward a more muscular, political, public, epic poetics (4).
In Victorian England, an educated woman with unusual talents had almost no opportunity to make use
of her skills in a world that was dominated by men (Chapman 4). The poem exemplifies that a woman
could live by herself in London and become prosperous. Two years after Aurora Leigh was published
Elizabeth Barrett Browning was writing again about political turmoil in Italy. Browning published
Poems Before Congress in 1860 which was about Italy struggling for independence and unity once
more. Included in the Poems Before Congress collection is A Curse for a Nation, which criticized
slavery in America (Preston 24). In her book, Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Spiritual Progress, Linda
Lewis explains that the poet was so invested in Italian politics that her obsession weakened her
nervous system (18). On June 20th, 1861, her poor health took a turn

The Korean War And The War
The United States has fought in many wars throughout the years. The Korean War took place from
1950 1953. It has also been called the forgotten war, as people do not recognize it like the Second
World War, the Vietnam War or the Gulf War. This battle consisted of North Korea, South Korea and
the United States. It was fought on sea, land and air. The Korean War was a clash between the
Communist forces and the free world. Additionally, the Korean War Veterans Memorial is located near
the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. (Nurses in the Korean War). This
memorial commemorates the sacrifices of the Americans who served in the armed services during this
time. It was dedicated on July 27, 1995. This monument is unique ... Show more content on

My grandfather lived outside in a foxhole for two years. He stated that the winters were extremely
cold. Many soldiers were killed or severely injured. There was a lack of food and cold weather gear.
Consequently, the draft was enacted when the Korean War began. The response fell short. It was
during this time that women were asked to serve their country in time of need. The Army Nurse Corps
responded to the call. The Army Nurse Corps is an organization that provides health care for military
personnel, their families and also retirees. One of these brave nurses was named Anna Mae Hays. She
served in a hospital unit during World War II. Once the war broke out in Korea, she organized the 4th
Field Hospital in 1950 and participated in the Inchon Landing. This hospital unit cared for more than
25,000 patients during the next ten months, one night receiving 700 wounded men. On June 11, 1970
she became the first woman in military history to attain general officer rank. On March 12, 2013 she
was inducted into the U.S. Army Women s Foundation Hall of Fame (Nurses in the Korean War).
Anna May Hays along with all the other nurses who enlisted put the well being of the wounded above

casualties, hospitals had to extend their capabilities. Without rest and nourishment nurses stayed on

Sears Case Study Solution
Sears is facing a huge problem when it comes to making profits anymore and they are continuing to
shut down stores. They have already shut down over 100 locations due to them not being as successful
as they used to be. They also have a failed stock, drained all their resources, and they are loaded with
debt. This company is not able to pull through and make profits anymore because their CEO is not
capable of making changes to the company to bring it out of it. He sees that the company is not as
presentable as it used to be and it does not have the same appeal. People are not going to want to go to
a store where it does not have anything to offer anymore. How can sears become profitable again if
they are in such debt and trouble with stocks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we can see Sears owns different companies/products within its business. Another strength is that
this company has many employees because it has so many different locations around the U.S. By
having lots of locations you are going to have many employees, which is great. In one article I read I
was able to see some of the weaknesses. As stated, Sears Holdings spent $5.8 billion buying back
shares from 2005 to 2010, draining the company s capital. Now, it has a major cash flow problem
(Rittenhouse, 2017). This shows that this company has to buy back it shares because if it does not they
will lose more money than they are even producing. Another weakness that I read was, From allegedly
rude employees to poor customer service, even loyal customers have lost trust in the company
(Rittenhouse, 2017). As we can see they have poor employees and service, which takes away from the
business because people rather not go to a place like that. This becomes a major threat because when
you have other stores like Amazon, Wal Mart, Costco, where there are all the same products sold and
maybe even at better prices, people are going to want to go to there. These other major stores
definitely attract people because they have low prices and keep up with people s demands. Wal Mart is
even known to match competitors prices and Amazon usually always offers free shipping and low
prices. When you see other stores that do better you go to them. You choose places where you are

positively to the stress within their relationship. Additional evidence, the strain relationships they also
had with their own broken extended families at the time showed they both lacked the skills of
cultivating and sustaining most close long term relationships. However, my parents both did have

Turtles Still Swimming
The article that was more effective on achieving its purpose between the two articles, After Spill, Sea
Turtles Still Swimming and For the Turtles both by Achieve 3000, is After Spill, Sea Turtles Still
Swimming . The reason why I say this is because according to Achieve 3000, she says, To the female
sea turtle, her nesting activity was nothing out of the ordinary for that time of year. But to the crowd,
the reptile s presence was significant; it meant that she and likely more of her species had survived the
disastrous April 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. What the author is saying is that scientists and
citizens are excited to see that the sea turtles have survived. This shows why After Spill, Sea Turtles
Still Swimming is more effective on achieving its purpose because this evidence shows more about
what the article is talking about. Along with that it shows how well the scientists did when saving the
sea turtles. Going along with that, Achieve 3000 writes, According to Shaver s tallies, the Kemp s
ridleys numbers look very good. In May, at the peak of the turtles nesting season, 155 Kemp s ridley
nests were spotted on Texas shores. This is more than were counted in all of 2010, and more than had
been counted by that point in 2009 and 2008. What the author is saying here is that the numbers show
how the sea turtles are recovering well.

Cultural Anthropology The nature of the culture: farming, hunting, gathering, fishing, cattle raising,

order to provide them with a number of agricultural products they could sell on the world markets.
The most notable include: sugar cane, coffee, bananas, yams, citrus fruits, vegetables and fish. As the
country developed, is when industrialization began to occur. This took place with tourism becoming
the most dominant industry. At the same time, there was a focus on bauxite, chemicals, paper, cement

Speech On Children With Disabilities

Children with disabilities
Research Question:
Why does it become difficult for the most of parents to accept their children with disabilities?
Literature Review:
Being told that your child has a disability can be traumatizing. Many parents get stunned by such
news. Receiving such a message can produce overwhelming emotions of shock, disbelief, anxiety, fear
and despair. Within that moment, research has shown that some parents cannot distinguish between
the unconscious wish for an idealized normal child from an unthinkable, sudden reality of one who is
not. Life of people with disabilities is not an easy life to have. There are many challenges that they

they are effectively barred from realizing their rights to healthcare, education, and even survival.
Estimates suggest that there are at least 93 million children with disabilities in the world, but numbers

are less likely to attend school, access medical services, or have their voices heard in society. Their

Regression Analysis For A Dependence Method
Regarding the testing of the hypotheses of this research, regression analysis or structural equation
modelling techniques is best suited for a dependence method (Hair et al., 2014). We employed
regression analysis to specify the extent to which the independent variables predicted the dependent
variable. The analysis conducted in this study was therefore intended to test the hypotheses of the
study. The regression output provided some measures which allow assessment of the hypotheses.
Following from the hypotheses, Brand Engagement was used as the dependent variable while the
independent variables consisted of Monetary Savings, Exploration, Entertainment, Recognition, and
Social Benefit. Results from the model assessment are presented in the Table VI. Insert table VI
Results from the model assessment indicate strong and significant reliabilities among the constructs
used in the study (F = 87.362, Prob.F stats 0.001). This was followed by Exploration (β = 0.102, t =
2.271, P = 0.024 0.05), as well as Entertainment (β = 0.081, t = 1.712, P = 0.068 0.10). Although
Recognition was positively related to Brand Engagement, it was not statistically significant (β =
0.051, t = 1.084, P = 0.279 0.05). It was however discovered that Monetary savings was inversely
related to Brand Engagement (β = .009, t = 0.194) as well as statistically not significant in the current
study (P = 0.846 0.05). In consequence, hypotheses one and four (H1 and H4) were rejected in our

John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Analysis
In 1630, Puritan leader John Winthrop delivered perhaps the most famous sermon in American history
entitled A Model of Christian Charity, in which he stressed to his fellow Puritans to adopt a sense of
unity by setting aside self interest for the sake of the community (Cohen, 2). Winthrop s idea of
putting community first has played a major role in American history, but as Winthrop probably knew
would happen, his idea of unity has always been at odds with those of self interest; as America is very
much a history of these competing forces. The forces of those willing to put aside their own interest
for unity, the common good, and for the preservation of the Union vs. those who have pursued their
own selfish ways. This paper will offer insights into how Winthrop s remarks have played out during
the first half of American history by examining certain individuals and events that have followed
along with Winthrop s idea, or those who have posed a challenge to it. Twenty three years before
Winthrop gave his sermon conflict over self interest vs. the common good was being played out in
Jamestown. Jamestown had been established in 1607 as a purely economic venture as Englishmen
traveled to the New World in pursuit of riches, following in the footsteps of the Spanish. These men
were consumed with their own self interest of finding gold and becoming rich as opposed to working
for the betterment of the colony, causing Jamestown to teeter on the edge of extinction for nearly a

sex in exchange for money and those who lived during particular historical periods. However, with the
knowledge and awareness about what it means to be gay or lesbian has increased considerably, there
remains an ignorance on a number of homosexual issues. Explanations of why sexual orientations

Support Organizations
The presence of women and gay men on the police force challenges the traditional heterosexually
masculine definition of the occupation. Recognizing the need for gay and lesbian police officers and
other criminal justice professionals to have an arena to discuss needs and concerns in an atmosphere
free of job related reprisals, the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) was established in 1981. GOAL
continues to provide a safe environment for people who have been, and continue to be, victims of
harassment and discrimination in the workplace, while at the same time attempting to change
homophobic attitudes in the workplace and in the community at large (Dahir, 1999). Other
organizations such as Law Enforcement Gays and Lesbians (LEGAL) also offer support for gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender workers in the criminal justice system. According to Dahir (1999),
The Gay Police Association (GPA) was formed in 1990 by a handful of officers in the Metropolitan
Police. Since then it has grown into a formally recognized and respected staff association with
members in all 52 UK police forces. The GPA is the only national organization that specifically
represents the needs and interests of gay police staff in the United Kingdom (para.1). Membership is
open to all Gay, Lesbian, Bi sexual, Transgender and Transsexual Police Officers and Police Staff.

The Ashley Treatment
The Ashley Treatment has been, and still remains, controversial. A statement written by Ashley s mom
and dad stated that Ashley had a normal birth, but her mental and motor faculties did not develop.
Over the years, neurologists, geneticists, and other specialists conducted every known traditional and
experimental test, but still could not determine a diagnosis or a cause. Doctor s call her condition static
encephalopathy of unknown etiology , which means an insult to the brain of unknown origin or cause,
and one that will not improve.
The The Ashley Treatment is now a generic phrase coined in the health profession that refers to
growth stunting procedures for children with severe disabilities. This name was given in reference to a

It is not clear whether or not the court would have stopped Ashley s parents from modifying her body
in the way they did. It seems likely that, at a minimum, the mastectomy would have been delayed until
it was clear that Ashley had in fact developed large uncomfortable breasts, something that was merely
speculative at the time of her surgery. It is certain, however, that imposition of limitations and process
in her case would have gone a long way toward reducing the risk that the procedures caused Ashley
more harm than any benefits they achieved. Obviously, time cannot be turned back for Ashley, but
future cases can and should be regulated more carefully (Ouellette, 2009). It has been more than five
years since the Ashley Treatment but the topic is still very much alive for a few reasons. One being,
that the treatment is still being given (at least 12 given so far in the U.S.), secondly because of the
legal issues raised and thirdly due to the moral issues it raises. In my opinion, the moral issues it raises
are enough to oppose the treatment in itself.
The justification behind the parents giving their daughter The Ashley Treatment were to improve her
the quality of life by keeping Ashley from suffering from menstrual pain, and enabling her to become
more mobile due to her lack of weight and height. This argument also states that the lives of the
parents will be made easier in caring for their terminally disabled

Beloved Analysis Essay
In Toni Morrison s Beloved, the author explores the deeper effects of the pain of Sethe s past in
chapter six through synesthesia, tone, double meaning, and diction. When Beloved becomes peculiarly
obsessed with Sethe, she prompts the harrowing times of her cobwebbed past with unusually specific
questions. Throughout the novel, Beloved s appetite for information spawns Sethe and Denver s desire
to fulfill her wishes, their level of eagerness increasing accordingly. With Beloved s insistence on the
context of Sethe s diamonds, it became a way to feed her...Sehte learned the profound satisfaction

Sethe s storytelling begins to release the pressure built up inside of her mind, leaking out through each
breath in and out. It s described as a way to feed and a substance to thirst for, implying it s necessity
when equated to food or drink. The release of her painful emotions are essential to Sethe s recovery,
and they are intensely stimulated through synesthesia. By connecting the necessity of food to Sethe s
necessity of opening up the coffin of the past, the reader is handed the ability to see how important it
is for her to relinquish those stories to not just Beloved, but herself as well. Next, Morrison felt the
need to give this quote not one meaning, but two! She begins the quote with, it became a way to feed
her , but the her that is referred to can be interpreted ambiguously. The ambivalence of the pronoun
her serves the purpose as the storytelling can be construed to feed both Beloved who is curious about
Sethe s ghosts and Sethe who appears to find a maturing pleasure in it. By providing this double
meaning within the text and throughout the whole novel, we see many contrasting ideas of Sethe s
painful past and Beloved s taxing amusement of her

Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince
Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The Apology.
Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of turmoil where
the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods cause the views and
purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of
turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain
power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more cynical and pessimistic in comparison to
Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince, he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem
his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but
from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and
publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and
effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince
should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just
having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable
to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot
start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because
Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune.
However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy.
Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna.
Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected
figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased
remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. Although
Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so he is a figure that is

Steven Spielberg s Classic Saving Private Ryan
A film genre is a motion picture category based on similarities in either the narrative elements or the
emotional response to the film. While films have at least one major genre, there are a number of films
that are considered crossbreeds or hybrids with three or four coinciding genre or sub genre types that
they can be identified with them and most can be filed into categories that are easily recognizable to
audiences (Goodykoontz Jacobs, 1998, p. 4.1). However, ever so seldom a film comes along that
breaks free of its invisible bounds of genre and it leaves the audiences confused about the actual
existence of genre. One such film is a film that most are familiar with Steven Spielberg s classic
Saving Private Ryan. Saving Private Ryan will always be remembered among the best war movies
ever made. It does what every prodigious war movie should, it takes a realistic look at war and shows
us the horrific side of war intelligently. The plot is marvelously original; eight men are sent behind
enemy lines to rescue one soldier, Private Ryan (Matt Damon). Ryan is the only remaining son in his
family; his three brothers have all died in action recently. Gen. George Marshall is so touched by Mrs.
Ryan s dilemma, who unfortunately learns of the deaths of her three sons on the same day, and orders
that her only remaining heir, Ryan, be returned home immediately. The holdup to the plan is that Ryan
parachuted into Normandy on D Day, and the Army has no idea where Ryan is or if he is

I m the King of the Castle by Susan Hill
Susan Hill, In the Set of the King of The Castle is based in a large house called Warings; it was once
before a countryside Mansion but now it all decayed. In this specific passage the reader is given a
clear idea of the reason behind it. Yet also, the whole extract gives us full details to understand Joseph
Hooper s wanting E Hooper s power, compassion and not respecting People s human rights. Your
father should have left you some money... to pay off all this debts , Since the Beginning it was
observed how Hooper abuses his social class to bully Kingshaw s Social class and his fathers. In the
end of the passage a small fight occurs between both characters where Kingshaw punches Hooper and
attempts to escape Warings. This specific incident sets the scene where in chapter #3 he is attacked by
a crow. The crow symbolises Hooper who is very protective of his territory and will not let Kingsshaw
threaten his privilege position at the Warings. The most significant aspect of this Red room is the
mention of the Moths.
The symbolism of the moths is to add a environment of death to the passage. The author uses the
Moths to add a sordid tone as the rest of the novel is taking place. The author uses the death of the
moth s to show how Hooper is slowly killing or taking Kingshaw s life hope or free spirit. The glass
cabinets filled with Moths are used to symbolise the death and disintegration of Hooper s power, this
can be shown through a simile glass showcases of moths and

How To Find A Reliable Health Website
Overview
In the era we are living in, the internet has become the number one source of information (it is the
reason you are reading this by the way). This is due to its convenience and speed. Nowadays you no

It is this tendency that has led to the emergence of consumer health information that helps persons

Briefing Arlington County s Stormwater Management Staff on the Four Mile Run Watershed Model
Oct 26, 2017
Meeting Notes
In Attendance: Sayedul Choudhury, Riyam Alobaidi, Elizabeth Thurber and Guosheng Qui
Sayedul provided an update on the Four Mile Run SWMM5 Model. A model summary and a map of
model components (see attached) were handed out.
The Four Mile Run SWMM5 Model results were found to match observed flows at the Shirlington
gage, especially for large storms (5,000 cfs or larger). However, for the tributaries, small streams and
upper Four Mile Run segments, the model performance cannot be validated until local wet weather
flow data are collected.
Sayedul requested Arlington County to

Sayedul will collect a copy of the data from Riyam.
CH2M added storages to a number of subwatersheds in the tributary models to account for water that
cannot enter the pipes, especially if the pipes are too small to carry the peak watershed runoff. Streams
Tech will evaluate the need for such storages in other subwatersheds to ensure that no water is lost
from the system.
Arlington County and Streams Tech personnel will walk along the key or questionable areas of the
stormwater network to identify potential problems and verify the connectivity and representation of
network (nodes, links, storages and subwatersheds) in the model.
Arlington County will provide data for an initial update of the model and then provide data annually to
update the model.
Streams Tech will coordinate NVRC to set up meeting to provide a project update to the Technical
Advisory Committee (TAC).
Arlington County wants to use the model results for various projects and programs including the MS4
Program.
Four Mile Run SWMM model Summary
1. Four models for the following subwatersheds were developed by CH2M Hill and incorporated in
the FMR SWMM model:
a. Arlington County Crossman Run subwatershed
b. Arlington County Lubber Run subwatershed

Gauis Petronius The Satyricon
The Satyricon by Gauis Petronius Arbiter (Petronius) (d. 66 CE) is in various ways an extreme
exaggerated narrative of Roman dining practices in his time period. The section regarding the Dinner
with Trimalchio illustrates this notion through his character Encolpius first hand experience in
attending this event. The satirical portrayal of self made millionaire , Trimalchio goes to an extreme
where he invited guest to his abode for a dinner to honor him, and to show off his grand status.
Petronius satirical novel stems around social manners within the world of classical antiquity, where it
seems his intent is to amuse his audience, but in that amusement also demean the aristocracy with his
light wit. The author shows his audience, the lengths to which Trimalchio goes to portray his idea of
grandeur. Despite Trimalchio s portrayal of over the top wealth and grandeur, his excessiveness is not

It also has a lower cabin noise and the effects of jetlag than the Boeing 747.
At 555 passengers, the A380 s seating capacity represents a 35% increase over the 747 400 in a
standard three class configuration, along with a 50% larger cabin volume producing more space per
passenger. If, however, the plane is ordered in an all economy class configuration, it can hold up to
853 passengers; its maximum certified carrying capacity.
Airport compatibility
The A380 was designed to fit within an 80 x 80 m airport gate[33], and can land or take off on any
runway that can take a Boeing 747. However, airports used by the A380 in commercial service may
need infrastructure modifications. Its large wingspan can require some taxiway and apron
reconfigurations, to maintain safe separation margins when two of the aircraft pass each other.
Taxiway shoulders may be required to be paved to reduce the likelihood of foreign object damage
caused to (or by) the outboard engines, which overhang more than 25 m (80 ft) from the centre line of
the aircraft. Any taxiway or runway bridge must be capable of supporting the A380 s maximum
weight. The terminal gate must be sized such that the A380 s wings do not block adjacent gates, and
may also provide multiple jetway bridges for simultaneous boarding on both decks. Service vehicles
with lifts capable of reaching the upper deck must be obtained, as well as tractors capable of

The At San Francesco Or Collegio La Salle
If you are from Gejeret then you might just as well remember where Gejretians found refuge in 1975.
I was one of those who took refuge at San Francesco or Collegio La Salle, which was administered by
the Kerenite Fratelli, Fr. Michael, Fr. Kahsay, and Fr. Demsas. Later on, I heard Fr. Demsas joined the
struggle but I ve no information if he made it to Independence Day. Also, rumor had it that afterwards,
Fr. Misghina quit the La Salle seminary, got married and left for Sweden. And there is more of such
news.
The year 1975 ushered a turbulent and terrible times for Asmara residents who hitherto escaped the
ugliness of the raging terror that was being carried out by the Derg. Most people from Gejeret stayed
at home during daytime, and at night moved to La Salle to spend the night. Usually in the late
afternoon, most of the people packed necessary supplies, took along mattress and blankets, and
bagged other items, and headed to La Salle to spend the night. After some time, that became the daily
routine, people were convinced it was the only way to evade falling victim and face the unimaginable
cruelty and looting in the hands of the Derg security forces, the Tor Serawti who became extremely
active during the night.
Two safe places became safe havens for the residents of Gejeret: San Francesco and La Salle. They
offered relative security and peaceful night. Meanwhile, many residents of Asmara trekked to the
countryside around Asmara where they found refuge. The rural areas

  • 2. Truman And The Cold War The United States came out of World War II ready to concentrate on domestic issues, but unfortunately, the more pressing issue of the Cold War needed addressing. Democracy and communism challenged the world order and the United States and the USSR took center stage on determining the world s economic, social and political future for the next forty five years. Each American president handled the power differently, acted on what he thought was in the best interest of the United States, and took on the Cold War through words and actions that often translated to real war but never directly with Russia. • 4. The Importance Of Memory And Short-Term Memory Roger goes to his friend s wedding where he is introduced to over 50 people. Roger s goal at this wedding is to meet new people, and remember as many names as he can. In order for him to get their names into long term memory, he first needs to get them past sensory, and short term memory. For him to be able to do this, he needs to come up with some strategies to remember these names. He will learn when it is necessary for him to rehearse the names over in his head, group some of them together, or making connections to the names. By testing out these strategies, we will learn how information moves from sensory memory to short term memory, and hopefully to long term memory. All information makes it to our sensory memory, but it only lasts less than one second. When Roger got to the wedding, there was probably tons of people in all different outfits, but he will probably never remember any of it. If he were to meet a woman who he thinks is attractive, her outfit could enter his short term memory so he can spot her out later during the party. If we pay attention to the information in our sensory memory, in information is sent on to the second stage, short term memory (Doyle Portillo Pastorino 271). The memory will last only about 20 30 seconds when it reaches the short term memory. Because the short term memory can hold about seven plus or minus two items, Roger could have payed close attention to the color of her eyes and hair too. Maybe when he leaves the ... What Is The Theme Of Mrs. Sen By Lahiri Mrs. Sen is the sixth story of this collection in which Lahiri has portrayed proficiently and successfully the problems of immigrants such as displacement, restlessness, discrimination and marginalization in the migrated country, even after having found a place to settle in. This story exhibits the troubles faced by an Indian wife in a foreign culture. Mrs.Sen is one of two main characters in this story. She is a friendless woman who hopelessly misses her native place Calcutta, her home. Her husband took a job as a professor in a New England town. Life is very different for her there. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her yearning for the Indian sensibility bears the stamp of a vagrant searching for her lost home. She is as if in self exile. Thus, the collection of short stories by Jhumpa Lahiri are based on the predicaments and inner turmoils of Indian immigrants in the United States. These characters have been uprooted from the secure life mode of a traditional set up and are struggling to cope with the new environment by learning new strategies and cope up methods, but in order to provide an alternate life mode, such learning has to be lived and experienced at first hand. Her fiction establishes a certain Indo American cultural link, in the post colonial context. She had made a search for identity with an emotional empathy through her female protagonists. The greatness of her writings is in making the tale of human idiosyncrasies thought provoking and soul searching. Jhumpa Lahiri does not explicitly points out the remedy. She has presented all women characters as they are in real life, but these characters, in one way for the other, teach the lesson of humility and equality, and motivate us to retain the good of the past in the face of the challenge of life with the head held high almost all the stories end on a positive note, with the hope of a ... All of these factors helped lead to the largest attempted slave revolt in American history. David Robertson s book Denmark Vesey outlines his life as a slave, to his freedom, to his execution, and the consequences of the aftermath. Only the lives of those who were captains of the ships that would help the rebels escape to either Haiti or Africa, would be spared. The plot of the revolt is a significant incident in American history, with just the thought of it actually occurring enough to terrify citizens of South Carolina. The Denmark Vesey rebellion is most remembered because of its closeness to success. The plot internally fell through when informers betrayed him, and confessed to their masters the plans that had been made. By the end of the summer of 1822, Vesey, along with 34 other leaders, were arrested and tried. They were then convicted and executed in a place that is still unknown to us. Although the revolt never took place, the slaves and abolitionists definitely had the resources and ability to do it. David Robertson obviously thoroughly researched the topic, with 40 pages of notes, and pictures at the end of the book. He took a very limited source of information, and turned it into a historical detective novel. That in itself is credible, even though the book is relatively short. Denmark Vesey gives a good foundation of information on the subject, but is lacking in certain areas. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing the Works of Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto Family happiness is something that many today focus on as an absolute requirement for happy and healthy growth in children. And indeed, it is right that this should be so. In reality, however, challenges such as poverty and racism often affect the happiness that families might experience. When comparing the works created by Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto, however, it becomes clear that family happiness is not so much dependent upon wealth as it is upon freedom of expression and freedom from fear. At first glance, the family in Rockwell s painting appears quite happy, with the father and mother both smiling at the sleepy children. The children also seem peaceful and warm in their bed, and the room appears secure and solid against any elements that might attack from outside. This is, however, where the sense of overprotection begins to reveal itself. The overprotected nature of the children s life is revealed in several visual elements in the painting. First, and most obvious, the mother leans over the children as she puts them to bed. The father also stands close, looking down at them, with a fond smile on his face. While it is clear that they love their children, the parents physical orientation towards their children can be said to hover. Another interesting element in this regard is that the father accompanies the process of putting the children to bed. He stands next to his wife as she works with the children. He does not help, but gives the impression that his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Romantic Period preceded the Victorian Period and served as a transition period between 20th century literature. The Victorian writers exhibited well established styles of writing from previous eras, while at the same time pushing various customs to new and interesting directions. Browning wanted to write a novel poem. In her book called Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Spiritual Progress, Linda Lewis states that Mrs. Browning s poem would fill a volume and it was the romance she had been hankering after so long, written in blank verse (20). In 1856, Barrett Browning published Aurora Leigh which is her longest work. In her article Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Expatriate Women Poetry, Allison Chapman states that Aurora Leigh represents a decisive shift in women s poetry away from the English poetess and toward a more muscular, political, public, epic poetics (4). In Victorian England, an educated woman with unusual talents had almost no opportunity to make use of her skills in a world that was dominated by men (Chapman 4). The poem exemplifies that a woman could live by herself in London and become prosperous. Two years after Aurora Leigh was published Elizabeth Barrett Browning was writing again about political turmoil in Italy. Browning published Poems Before Congress in 1860 which was about Italy struggling for independence and unity once more. Included in the Poems Before Congress collection is A Curse for a Nation, which criticized slavery in America (Preston 24). The reason why I say this is because according to Achieve 3000, she says, To the female sea turtle, her nesting activity was nothing out of the ordinary for that time of year. But to the crowd, the reptile s presence was significant; it meant that she and likely more of her species had survived the disastrous April 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This shows why After Spill, Sea Turtles Still Swimming is more effective on achieving its purpose because this evidence shows more about what the article is talking about. Regression Analysis For A Dependence Method Regarding the testing of the hypotheses of this research, regression analysis or structural equation modelling techniques is best suited for a dependence method (Hair et al., 2014). We employed regression analysis to specify the extent to which the independent variables predicted the dependent variable. The analysis conducted in this study was therefore intended to test the hypotheses of the study. The regression output provided some measures which allow assessment of the hypotheses. Following from the hypotheses, Brand Engagement was used as the dependent variable while the independent variables consisted of Monetary Savings, Exploration, Entertainment, Recognition, and Social Benefit. Results from the model assessment are presented in the Table VI. Insert table VI Results from the model assessment indicate strong and significant reliabilities among the constructs used in the study (F = 87.362, Prob.F stats 0.001). John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Analysis In 1630, Puritan leader John Winthrop delivered perhaps the most famous sermon in American history entitled A Model of Christian Charity, in which he stressed to his fellow Puritans to adopt a sense of unity by setting aside self interest for the sake of the community (Cohen, 2). Winthrop s idea of putting community first has played a major role in American history, but as Winthrop probably knew would happen, his idea of unity has always been at odds with those of self interest; as America is very much a history of these competing forces. A prince should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune.
