WHAT IS LISTENING?
Listening is the ability to accurately
receive and interpret messages in the
communication process. Listening is
key to all effective communication
Hearing is simply the act of perceiving
sound by the ear. Listening, however,
is something you consciously choose
to do.
Importance of Listening
● Devlops Understanding
● Builds the feeling of respect and trust
● Helpful in getting knowledge
● Reduce chance of
miscommunication.
● Make more aware about surrounding.
● Key method in Learning
TYPES OF LISTENING
Main four types of Listening are:-
● Active Listening
● Selective Listening
● Emphatic Listening
● Ignoring Listening
ACTIVE LISTENING
● Requires concentration
● Proper Understanding
● Remembering what is said?
● Builds deep trust
● Strengths patience
● Increase completeness
● Help in problem solving
SELECTIVE LISTENING
● Listening what we want
● Involve filtering and summarising
● Ignoring non critical information
● Focusing priority information
● Summarising ideas of speaker
● Less than full attention
EMPHATIC LISTENING
● active listening or reflective
listening.
● Improves mutual understanding
and trust.
● structured listening and
questioning technique
● understanding the person who's
talking
● Develop good listening habits
● Avoid misunderstandings
IGNORING LISTENING
● lowest level of listening
● Not listening at all
● Spending zero effort in
listening
● distracted by anything while
the speaker is talking.
PROCESS OF LISTENING
● Receiving - 'hearing’, recieving message
● Understanding - To learn meaning of
message
● Remembering - remembering what was
said
● Evaluating- evaluation of message
● Responding- 'feedback’ reaction to
message

● Face the speaker

● Be attentive
