King Arthur Archer Biography
I walked by the crowds of people clamoring to take pictures in front of the White House, and towards
the guardhouse just to the side of the front of the building. Along with my PBS mentors, I was buzzed
in and handed my ID and Invitation to the Secret Service officer at the booth. I was ushered inside
with the rest of my group following behind me. We submitted our equipment to the officers to be
scanned and then were issued an honor that very few people ever get to experience: issued White
House press passes. We then were led from the gatehouse up towards the Press wing and the White
House to meet, photograph, and be congratulated by the most powerful man in the world. That
opportunity to go to the White House film festival and receive a press ... Show more content on

I got up at 4 in the morning during winter break and walked to school in the rain to set up a Go Pro to
get a time lapse sequence of the installation of the automatic doors at the school, and I filmed as
Governor Greg Abbott and Archer Hadley unveiled the new doors at the opening ceremony. After we
had finished filming, the PBS NewsHour team began writing the story together and editing it for the
final product. Once completed, we submitted the film to competitions in hopes to attract even more
attention to our cause. Though we knew we had created a strong product, no one expected us to win as
many awards as we did, and we certainly did not expect to be invited to the White House. Not only
was our news team all invited to showcase The Archer Hadley Story in Washington DC, but also I and
one other student were given White House press passes, which gave us exclusive access to get footage
of our experience. At the White House, I had the opportunity to meet actors and industry members
such as director Steve Mcqueen and actor Kal Penn. I also attended a press briefing, which included
Obama s March Madness Picks. I participated in a full day workshop that covered topics spanning
from the ethics of journalism to acting techniques. To top it all off, I had the opportunity to take
pictures of the White House Press Secretary and President Obama.

Article Critique On Carbohydrate And Protein During Training
Article Critiques
Assignment Six
Hall, A. H., Leveritt, M. D., Ahuja, K. D., Shing, C. M. (2013). Coingestion of carbohydrate and
protein during training reduces training stress and enhances subsequent exercise performance. Applied
Physiology, Nutrition Metabolism, 38(6), 597 604.
Despite extensive research on the benefits of carbohydrate (CHO) ingestion improving endurance
performance, there are still a lot of questions in the literature about whether or not the simultaneous
ingestion of CHO and protein is advantageous compared to other methods in enhancing performance
(Hall et al., 2013). According to Hall and colleagues (2013), there have been an number of studies that
have shown potentially performance enhancing benefits of co ingestion of protein and CHO such as
enhanced glycogen synthesis post exercise, decreased muscle soreness, muscle damage, positive net
protein balance, and even modest performance benefits (Hall et al., 2013).
Purpose. Hall and colleagues (2013) looked to determine the potential impact of protein and CHO co
ingestion has compared to isoenergetic CHO beverage during exercise . Specifically, Hall and
colleagues (2013) wanted to explore the impact that consumption of such a beverage would have on
cycling performance after a four hour rest period. Also, the impact that consumption would have on
blood plasma markers of muscle damage and muscle soreness, as well as insulin and glucose levels
(Hall et al., 2013).

Studying Chemical Engineering At Mcgill University
There are numerous ways to teach a new subject to someone, some strategies work better than others
depending on the discipline. Now, I am concluding my final semester of Honours Health Science and
will be going to study Chemical engineering at McGill University. Though I do not see myself being a
teacher in the near future, I hope that I can continue to tutor people in science based classes and
perhaps one day teach the subject after getting the appropriate degree needed to be a teacher in Higher
Education. I hope that one day, I can be a Chemistry teacher at either the CEGEP level, or at the
University level. I am choosing this particular discipline, since I am familiar very comfortable with the
subject, and because of how Chemistry is everywhere; it s in the foods we eat, everything we touch,
and everything we see. Along with that, every science student at CEGEP level must complete at least
2 Chemistry courses before graduating, and 3 for those in the Health Sciences. Based on what I have
seen at College level, certain teaching strategies are better suited than others depending on the course
being taught, and also based on the amount of free time a student has that can be invested in a class.
The best suited educational philosophies for teaching Chemistry would have to be Realism and
Pragmatism. Realism is very well suited to studying the subject, because of how students learn
through studying what goes on in reality (not just in theory) and due to how the philosophy is

Machiavellian Evaluation of Hamlet
Niccolo Machiavelli is undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic figures in the long evolving history of
political thought of modern Europe. No other doctrine of any other political theorist has been so
intensely dissected, read, reread and researched upon even after five hundred years. Machiavelli has
been accused and accepted, revered and rejected, celebrated and condemned very few political
theorists have actually managed to cause such diverse reactions in the minds of people all over the
world. It is understandable that the main cause of such diverse and contradictory reactions is the so
called immorality in the text. Undoubtedly, Machiavelli advices the Prince to be as opportunistic and
immoral as possible. A prince and especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada
When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of
French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become
something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land
continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canada as their land and way of life is special
to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history
when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can
continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and
separation. Quebec is also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4
geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec
allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and
mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual
French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada.
Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the
first permanent French settlement in 1608. The settlement of Quebec was made to establish fur trading
posts, explore more land using the St. Lawrence River, maintain relationships with the Indigenous
people, and travel further and faster

Biological Pathways And Signaling Within The Brain
One field of study in the realm of biology that still leaves much to be discovered is neuroscience, more
specifically, the neurological pathways and signaling within the brain. While there have been many
developments and breakthroughs in identifying areas of activity and neural pathways, there are still
many obstacles to overcome and discoveries to be made. The authors of the journal High fidelity
optical reporting of neuronal electrical activity with an ultrafast fluorescent voltage sensor sought to
overcome one such obstacle. They understood the potential for fluorescent proteins to be used for
visualizing the firing of action potentials throughout neuronal pathways of the brain, but realized that
such proteins were unable to accurately record higher frequency signaling across synapses where there
was frequent action potential activity. Within this journal, they describe the methods used to produce a
new fluorescent protein, accelerated sensor of action potential 1(ASAP1), and the benefits that it can
provide to the field of visualizing the activity of action potentials as they propagate through synapses
in the brain. They hypothesized that ASAP1 should be able to give definitive fluorescent readings for
the activity of action potentials propagating through the brain, even in areas with high frequency
activity that have not been measurable before. In order to create this revolutionary new fluorescent
visualization protein, the researchers had to test it in many

Roles Of Benazir Bhutto And Indira Gandhi Of India
In the contemporary world, references to dynasties refer more often to sports teams than to political
regimes. Yet, not long ago two political leaders owed much of their rise to political prominence due to
their dynastical heritage. These political leaders were Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan and Indira Gandhi of
India. The reasons why dynastic connections have been important to the election of these women
leaders is because of their family legacy and the political instability of their respective nations. In
discussing these two women and these two accompanying themes, insights into the importance of their
gender will be revealed, showing that gender was both irrelevant and significant. It was irrelevant due
to dynastic connections, yet significant when considering Bhutto was prime minister of a Muslim
majority country and both women led societies with a strong patriarchal culture. Both Benazir Bhutto
and Indira Gandhi had fathers who served as prime ministers of their respective nations and both of
their fathers were incredibly popular during their tenure in office. Their popularity created a stable
base of supporters for the Bhutto s and Gandhi s and the last names of Benazir and Indira undoubtedly
carried much weight during their campaign for election due to the success of their respective
paterfamilias. It is interesting to consider socio economic context of the two nations and how this
played a role in voters deciding who to cast their vote for. India and Pakistan share

Delivery Of The Keys To Saint Peter
The aim of this paper is to examine two different pieces of art. In one corner we have Rogier van der
Weyden, Deposition and in the other corner we have Pietro Perugino, Delivery of the Keys to Saint
Peter. Both paintings are innovative with respect to the period that it was done in. As I move along in
this paper, I am going to examine an art piece and compare it to the other.
Let s begin by discussing the difference between the Italian Renaissance and the Northern
Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance was based in the south and common times referred to as the
stage model. The reason that it is called the stage model is because art in that time period were
primary focused on linear perspective. Meanwhile, the Northern Renaissance was based in the north,
in countries like the Netherlands and Germany. From time to time we will hear it be referred to as the
Mirror model. Northern Renaissance art is commonly known for its intricate detail. The Deposition is
a great example of Northern Renaissance art while the Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter is a ... Show

If we zoom in on the Weyden s painting, we can see just how well he was able to capture the detail of
each individual s hair and even the wrinkles in their foreheads. Every strand of hair is accentuated and
every wrinkle is emphasized. To top it off, we are able to see and in some way feel the emotion of
each individual due to the realism of their expression. Then we look at Perugino painting and realize
that it is severely lacking in precise detail. Each individual has the same or slightly modified hair style
and their facial expressions are standard. I am not emotionally connected to the painting. I am not sure
if what is happening in the image is a good or bad thing. A person s expression tells a lot about them
and unfortunately Perugino was not able to reach the level that Weyden did when it comes to

The Middle East And West Perceive Each Other
How the Middle East and West Perceive each other
Followed by a year of continuous terror attacks by ISIS, riots over cartoon portrayals of the Prophet
PBUH, and the ongoing war in Iraq and Afghanistan, many Muslims and Westerners know that they
have developed bad relations these days. The media continuously portrays the Middle East as nation
filled with terrorist whilst the West are portrayed as the nation that is trying to make peace. There have
been so many misconceptions that have made both cultures create a barrier between them because of
how both cultures are portrayed through the media.
Many in the West, view Muslims as fanatical, violent and as lacking tolerance. Muslims in the Middle
East and Asia have the same feelings towards the west as they view them as violent and extremist but
also selfish, immoral and greedy.
How America Perceives Muslims and the Middle East
Islamophobia existed in America before the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, but it was not as
harsh as it was back then, but it did increase after the terror attacks and with the media adding more
misconceptions (Sinlak, n.d.). Some of the perceptions that most Americans had of the Middle East
was that they were rich with oil, lived a lavish life and consisted of deserts. They did not have the idea
of the Middle East being a terrorist region where there was always war. However, after 9/11 the
negative views started to increase, and Muslims and the Middle East were viewed very negatively.

Organizing Function of Management
Organizing Function of Management
The second of the four basic management activities is organizing. By setting up and implementing the
correct organization form or structure for their size and their people, a company can fulfill its purpose
and make the necessary profit to continue, or even to excel. These structures will more than likely
change over time as the company grows and changes, but this is the ‘nature of the beast and what
most of Corporate America have come to expect.
The most efficient way to set up a structure for organization and management is to evaluate their

Human Resources
As so much time has been spent on the other areas I spoke of, no system has ever really been put into
place for human resources. The human resources department consists of one person, who is also the
bookkeeper. When an application comes in, it goes to her and she sorts out the one who just do not
have the qualifications we need. She then calls and sets up interviews for these people. From this
point, it is a bit of a jumble, but typically it hits the same basics. The candidate speaks to the manager
of the area looking for personnel, and usually approves or disapproves of him/her on the spot. Then
the ball goes back into the bookkeeper court and she sends them for a drug test, issues an employment
packet, and a timeport that will record their hours for payroll. This same one woman is also our
benefits coordinator, accountant, bookkeeper, office manager, and any other projects that come down
the pike that the receptionist is unable to handle.
Again, this is an outdated system, which is extremely unfair to the ‘girl Friday . At this time, this

Literary Analysis Of A Personal Narrative In Frank...
Kelley Simon s anecdote, Frank Sinatra s Gum, is a literacy narrative about an outcast teenage girl s
personal account of her riveting interview with the one and only Frank Sinatra. The narrative
illustrates Simon s internal struggle over how to successfully become part of a school clique of girls
and her external struggle with Frank Sinatra. Her motivation for the interview, her self identity, and
her ultimate decision all play a part in her methods. She uses rhetorical devices throughout the
autobiographical sketch of Sinatra that help portray her true feelings. Simon s exaggerated use of
imagery and sensory language, parallelism, and the modes of persuasion all dramatize the main focus
in distinguishing between the allusion of an image and reality. In the beginning of the article, the
author utilizes parallelism to compare her own father to Frank Sinatra. She claims that she liked how
[Sinatra] was Sicilian as many of [her] father s friends and clients were (Simon 1). However, Simon
does admit that he was a pug like Frankie in that both were unreasonable, illogical, and self centered
(Simon 1). Both resorted to a physical means in order to resolve their differences. Sinatra reminds
Simon of her father, and in such a way that allows her to admire him while she struggles with her
uncertainty on whether or not she likes him.
Simon uses descriptive imagery and sensory language to allow the reader a vicarious experience. To
demonstrate how idolized Sinatra was at the

A Summary On Adlerian Theory
Adlerian Theory
Todd Overstreet
Liberty University
Abstract
Adlerian theory, which is named after the famous psychotherapist Alfred Adler, is used mainly to give
emphasis to birth order, theories relating to inferiority and superiority, individual life styles, and social
interests as the main workings of personality. In Adlerian theory, mental well being is decided by the
degree of social contribution that is helpful to the greater community to the extent that one
incorporates and advances the social context, therefore the size of his or her psychological well being.
Social contributions are heightened with the decrease of inaccurate beliefs. This can often steer us to
have maladaptive feelings of inferiority or superiority. The objective of battling untrue beliefs is
achieved through comprehension of family groups, youthful recollections as well as dreams.
(Livingston, 2009)
History of Theory Alfred Adler, who lived from1870 1937, was a world famous theorist and
psychiatrist. He emphasized the need to learn about people inside of their social setting. Throughout
the early 1900 s, he started concentrating on such critical and modern problems such as egalitarianism,
parental education, and effect of the birth order, way of life and the holism of people. He also
understood that everyone has a simple want and objective. That objective is for us to fit in and to feel
substantial. (Corey, 2013) He established the first universal philosophy of

Analysis Of Dragon s Village, Things Fall Apart, And...
In Africa and throughout the world, many countries have been forced to undergo the plight of colonial
rule. Along with this, comes varying external impacts which severely alter the cultural, political,
social, and personal identity of a country both during and long after the Colonial Era. The evidence of
these established changes can be found in the novels; Dragon s Village, Things Fall Apart, and Man of
the People surrounding China and Africa. Along with Deepa Mehta s period films, Earth and Water
and Iciar Bollain s juxtaposition piece, Even the Rain that emphasize the circumstances that occurred
in India and Bolivia.
A master at providing alternative context to Africa and concepts of decolonization, Chinua Achebe
wrote a great amount of literary work, including, Things Fall Apart (1956) and A Man of the People
(1966). The first novel, occurring both before and during Nigeria s neo colonial period, depicts the
relationship between Okonkwo and his Igbo tribe in Umuofia. With an identity heavily dependent on
his social status and structure, Achebe s protagonist communicates his extreme distaste for the
entrance of European colonizers:
Okonkwo was well known throughout the nine villages and even beyond. His fame rested on solid
personal achievements. As a young man of eighteen he had brought honor to his village by throwing
Amalinze the Cat. Amalinze was the great wrestler who for seven years was unbeaten, from Umuofia
to Mbaino. (1.1)

This passage fits into the novel by adding character development and adding to the plot on how

there women are supposed to act a certain way and do as their told. As we begin to meet Pearl, we

Immigration Is A Major Issue
Immigration is a major issue in the 2016 presidential election. Millions of undocumented immigrants
live in the U.S. and border agents spend so much time apprehending illegal immigrants that agencies
cannot focus on criminal and terrorist threats. The growing awareness that our immigration system is
dysfunctional has affected the candidate s position on the issue. The candidates I have chosen to
highlight are Democrat Hillary Clinton, Republican Donald Trump and Libertarian Gary Johnson.
Hillary Clinton, Democratic candidate stated: We have to finally and once and for all fix our
immigration system this is a family issue. It s an economic issue too, but it is at heart a family issue. If
we claim we are for family, then we have to pull together and resolve the outstanding issues around
our broken immigration system. The American people support comprehensive immigration reform not
just because it s the right thing to do and it is but because it will strengthen families, strengthen our
economy, and strengthen our country. That s why we can t wait any longer, we can t wait any longer
for a path to full and equal citizenship. (https://www.hillaryclinton.com)
Clinton promises she will work to ensure a fair and just immigration system. She is fighting for an
America where every family has a sense of belonging. She believes it is important to keep families

being Mendoza and Father Gabriel. Mendoza evolves from a slave trader to a missionary partnered
with Father Gabriel. Their goal is to have a society with the Guarani and not have conflict with either
the Portuguese or Spanish. There are also governors who find them dangerous. Working as opponents,
they make it a goal to shut down missionaries and capture or kill the Guarani. In the end, they are
successful and the movie documents the fall of the mission, and the deaths of Mendezo and Father
Gabriel.

The process for acceptance by the missionaries involved him having to read the bible, become
involved with the sacraments, cooking, cleaning, and other ways to help out. For the Guarani, he just
socialized with them, whether by playing with children, helping the women care for them, going to
hunt with the men, and helping to build the church and housing. In the end, he became a warrior and
forsook his name as a priest. Father Gabriel gave Mendoza a final goodbye, but did not bless him, and
made it clear that he was a bit disappointed. He wanted Mendoza to demonstrate Pacifism, but still

GROUP NO: 9
SUBMISSION NUMBER 5 ON: 22 July 2014
SUBMISSION TITLE: Consumer Behaviour
PRODUCT: Two Wheeler
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT LUCKNOW
Over the years there has been a shift in the consumer buying behaviour of two wheelers. While cost,
fuel efficiency and comfort have been primary influencers throughout, factors such as aesthetics,
brand recognition have gained importance in the recent years.
Following are the key consumer factors that have witnessed a change over the years:
Change in Consumer Behaviour with Affordability
During the early years after independence i.e. in 1950s, two wheelers were considered as a luxury
good. In 1950s most of the people were dependent on agriculture for their earnings, sources of income
were very few, due to which the disposable income with people was also low and only a few could
afford two wheelers. Two wheelers were sometimes given as dowry in marriages and considered as a
status symbol, since very few families were able to afford them. But now as the income levels have
increased and people have easy access to credit and loan facilities, most people can a two wheeler. It is
not considered as the luxury good anymore, it has rather become a necessity for some consumers who
commute daily and look for economical options.
Changing Preference towards Economy
During 1980 90s, the two wheelers became one of the most widely used transportation medium in the
Indian society. It was widely used by the middle

Understanding that every company is at risk for lawsuits is one of the most effective ways to prevent
these events from occurring. The most important thing to prevent lawsuits is to be proactive, not
reactive, states Brad Forsyth author of Bulletproof Your Business. The fact is most lawsuits are
preventable if you proactively manage trouble and have plans already in place. (Forsyth, 2005)
Prevention One of RAPIDS s foundational barriers against lawsuits is to approach the business with
an attitude of prevention. A few of RAPIDS s policies will be to implement a three day orientation

Boxing History
Boxing is one of the oldest known sports, from 2,000 year old depictions on the walls of tombs in
Egypt, to stone carvings indicating that Sumerians, who lived in what is now Iraq, boxed over 5,000
years ago. However, this is not the boxing that we know today, it was once a more exhausting and
brutal sport. In ancient Greece, two men would sit face to face with their fists wrapped in strips of
leather. They would hit each other until one of them fell to the ground unconscious or dead. Roman
fighters wore cestuses, leather straps plated with metal, which promoted shortened bouts. The sport
was eventually prohibited due to the inhumane violence. Boxing would not reappear until the late
1600s in England. Then, in the 1700s modern boxing was introduced, ... Show more content on

One of the most famous incidents dealt with Muhammad Ali in 1967. During this time, he was the
undefeated heavyweight champion of the world and highly acclaimed. Ali was arguably in his prime
when was called to join the Vietnam draft. He did not believe in the Vietnam War, due to his beliefs in
his newfound Muslim faith, and refused to join the draft. He was stripped of his heavyweight title and
on April 28, 1967, he protested by refusing to step forward when his name was called, resulting in his
arrest. The New York State Athletic Commission, the most influential boxing commission at the time,
decided to revoke Ali s boxing license before he was even convicted. For three years, he wasn t
allowed to box, Ali had to speak at various colleges to make enough money to put food on the table
and pay his bills. Ali was reinstated in 1970, but three of his best years as a professional were gone.
Ali was close to 30, leaving the world to only wonder what those three years could have produced.
The other infamous boxing incident was the Mike Tyson vs. Evan Holyfield fight in 1997. Both
fighters had history with each other and the excitement behind the fight was high. Holyfield beat
Tyson the year before saying that, Tyson was no longer the baddest man on the planet. However,

Jung And Carl Jung s Theory Of Personality
There are many psychoanalytical theories on personality that have been observed and studied from
many perspectives with differing and varying views having been debated on and discussed against on
how best to tackle development and therapy of the mind. In the following paper, I will touch on a few
of the great minds that attempted to encapsulate an understanding of traits and the environmental and
biological associations attributed with those traits that purportedly make up our understanding of
personality.
Carl Jung is considered one of the pioneers of contemporary psychiatry and the study into the
consciousness. Jung s particular view of psychology from an analytical standpoint does not place him
fully within the area of behavioral psychology or cognitive psychology. What is now known as the
Jungian Theory was born from Carl Jung s beliefs that all humans share what is known as a collective
unconscious in which is contains common ideas or archetypes (Wade, Tavris, 2012). With this came
Jung s idea of introversion and extroversion within the basic personality. Carl Jung in many ways was
similar to Sigmund Freud, however the two shared many theoretical differences. Much of what Jung
brought to the world of psychology has been used among the beliefs of many New Age practices
(Wade, Tavris, 2012) and as such Jung s work been considered highly controversial in many
psychology circles.

Comparing Shintoism And Buddhism
The main goal of any religion is to gain an idea of understanding and reasoning in one s life. Religion
is a vast hole with endless conceptions concerning the purpose for existence, as well as moral
principles for how individuals should live their one life. Religion is sacred and vital in the Japanese
society. Japan is a remarkable country with endless temples and shrines for praying, donating, and
ceremonies. Yet, the modern lifestyle and urbanization in Japan continues to emerge. This realization
had me contemplating the notion of how people can adjust towards contemporary ideals and newly
found social orders, but continue to keep ancient beliefs and teachings like Buddhism. Buddhism
arrived in the sixth century in Japan from the Kingdom of Baekje in Korea, roughly 552 A.D.
However, it began in India with Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha lived within a royal family and was
protected from the real world for most of his childhood until he witnessed the trials of sickness, aging,
and death from a local monk. He wanted to find a way to live his life with those trials, or somehow
accept them. Siddhartha craved for a life of no pain and suffering, so he left his comfortable home and

The Tsunami Of The Earthquake
The Tsunami March 11, 2011 was a day that impacted many lives. Little did anyone know that thirty
seven miles off the east coast of Japan a disaster was brewing. Tension on the Circum Pacific Belt was
released. When this tension released the Pacific Plate was thrusted 5 8 meters above its previous
location(book). This thrust upward displaces water, which will cause a tsunami. A tsunami is large
ocean wave that are set in motion be a major undersea earthquake(book). The upward movement of
the Pacific tectonic was the earthquake. Japan is located on the Circum Pacific Belt. This is the edge
of the Pacific Plate that encompasses many coastal regions, and holds many areas of a lot of tectonic

Earthquakes of magnitudes of 8 or great would have to be a tension snap that occurs along a segment
that is around 600 miles in length(Book). This is an extraordinary length. This is about the distance

Since the earthquake happened 37 miles off of the coast of Japan(Book), there was plenty of time for

The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection
As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually used
as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al., 2017; O
Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008). The
diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and have
existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and hoofed
mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen, 2008;

This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as
caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of natural

Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon morphology to be more
effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through male male competition
enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of male male competition, within
ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received increased attention, despite such studies
being present within the field for over 50 years (McCullough et al., 2016; Bro Jørgensen, 2007; Caro

three times, with a change in habitat from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of
around 15 18kg, which is thought to influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result,
many investigations on horn morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been
completed to environmental factors, scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may

The Marketing Principles of Fruit Winder Essay
The Marketing Principles of Fruit Winder
There are 5 main principles of marketing. They are
* Understanding customer needs.
* Co ordinating functions to achieve marketing aims.
* Adopting a marketing approach.
* Effective customer communications.
* Constraints.
UNDERSTANDING CUSTOMER NEEDS Kellogg s need to identify and understand the needs of
both their existing customers, as well as any new potential customers. They will need to adapt their
marketing approach to meet the need of these customers. If companies continually review all aspects
of their products, making sure they still meet the requirements of the customers using the 4 P s, it will

There must also be well defined lines of communication with other departments throughout the
company.
As Kellogg s is a large organisation, they have a separate marketing department. It will co ordinate
activities with the other departments of the business so that each marketing task will be met. For
example, the marketing department will have to work with the Finance function to organise the funds
available, and the funds needed to carry out any marketing activities. They will also need to work with
the Human Resources department to provide the correct number of properly trained staff necessary to
complete the different tasks required.
ADOPTING A MARKETING APPROACH There are two main marketing approaches that businesses
use; Product Oriented and Customer Oriented. The product oriented approach focuses on the product
and not the market. It does not take into consideration the views/opinions of the customers. The
company may believe that their product is the best on the market, seeing no need for further changes
or improvements. However, following the product oriented approach can lead to the downfall of a
company, particularly if they are functioning in a highly competitive and rapidly changing market. The
customer oriented approach involves a company being in a constant state of development;

Essay On Complex Engineering Systems
Complex engineering systems involve uncertain nature (in analysis, design, production and
operational phases) as well as multidisciplinary essence. Studies show that about 40% of failures are
due to lack of attention to uncertainties in the design phase and rest of failures depends on other
factors such as production phase, operational condition, and etc. so considering uncertainties are
unavoidable in the analysis and design of these systems. In general, uncertainties are divided into two
groups: aleatory uncertainty and epistemic uncertainty. Aleatory uncertainty describes the interior and
or environmental variations of physical systems. Epistemic uncertainty is due to inaccuracy in the
modeling process because of lack of knowledge in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decision maker can evaluate system performance and robustness by analyzing the Pareto frontier
variations due to uncertainties. As well as, the designer can distinguish the favorable or high risk
regions of design space. The robust design of structures is formulated as a multi criteria optimization
problem wherein both mean value and the standard deviation of the objective function are minimized
[4]. In this reference, the two criterion optimization problem is converted into single optimization
problem and is solved by a gradient based optimization algorithm. Jaeger et al. [8] proposed a
procedure for reliable and robust optimization of an aircraft at the conceptual design phase. The main
advantage of this approach is that it permits designers to update uncertainties from the historical
database at each step of optimization. To reduce the computational cost, response surface
approximations are constructed by Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). Jafarsalehi et al. [9] has
implemented deterministic and nondeterministic approaches in the design of Remote Sensing
Satellites (RSS) under uncertainty. In this reference, a composition of multidisciplinary design
optimization and reliability based design optimization methods was introduced. MCS used for
uncertainty modeling. Multidisciplinary Design Feasible (MDF), Collaborative Optimization (CO),

Theropod Dinosaurs Research Paper
Dinosaurs capture the attention of children and adults alike, and many people think that they are long

The theory that theropods evolved into birds was proposed nearly a century and a half ago and is
supported by more and more modern evidence. You will find that the distinction between birds and
dinosaurs will become difficult, as they have so many parallels. The similarities between birds and
dinosaurs strongly suggest that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs.

Ratites and penguins are two groups of flightless birds we have today. The origin of flight is an
ongoing debate from scientists, but there are two main theories: that flight evolved arboreally or that it
evolved from ground dwelling dinosaurs. Both have compelling evidence. The theory that flight
started in the trees begins with WAIR (Wing Assisted Incline Running). Discovered in 2001 by Ken
Dial at the University of Montana, it is the way many ground dwelling birds get into trees to rest at
night. These birds would flap their wings back and forth (rather than up and down) to generate
traction. The larger the wing size, the steeper the angle a bird could run up (Holtz 149). Also
supporting this theory is the presence of toes adapted for perching in several species of dinosaurs.
From there, the dinosaurs could have glided from tree to tree and eventually taken flight. A ground
dwelling origin of flight also has convincing evidence. A study found that non avian feathered
theropods could get a boost of speed by flapping their wings (Sloan 51). Therefore, longer feathers
and bigger wings meant faster speeds until flight could

The Mass-Western Protagonist Essay example
In form, The Tall T is a fairly straightforward melodrama, utilizing familiar stock characters such as
the ignoble swindler, the naïve woman, the honorable bandit leader, and most importantly the cowboy
hero forced into the role of gunfighter and man of action by desperate circumstances. In these
respects, The Tall T, though produced in 1957, is representative of the great mass of simplistic,
histrionic films which constituted the majority of the Western genre output during the 1920s through
the 1950s; the film is perhaps even an exemplar of the subgenre, as director Budd Boetticher most
likely drew upon the most typical of the accumulated conventions of the B Western for inspiration. Yet

On the ethical plane, the level of this preëminence is such that it manifests itself as a tangible aura
Frank, the bandit leader, is drawn towards Brennan, even coming right out and saying, I don t know
why I like you, Brennan, in an unconscious recognition of virtue; the woman implicitly trusts Brennan
from the moment he hitches a ride on her stagecoach. As far as physical supremacy is concerned, the
gunfighting scenes in the movie are few, but once Brennan finally gets his hands on a gun, the battle is
as good as over Brennan s marksmanship is clearly superior even to Chingo s. In sum, once Brennan
has been caught up in the dramatic situation of the film, he is unquestionably in control of his fate,
even in captivity.
And yet this unquestionable dominance is plausible only with an equally unquestioning credulity in
the internal logic of the film; the viewer must exert considerable suspension of disbelief in order for
The Tall T to work as it was intended. Such willing involvement is simply acceptance of a genre s
prevailing conventions; Edward Buscombe, in his introduction to The BFI Companion to the Western,
notes that the Western is not merely a milieu or a way of life, but another world, or at least another
country (16). However, the world of the Western is hardly homogeneous and separate; over the years
the iconography of the Western has altered,

Exploring Various Best Practices That Can Alleviate...
Airports can often be described as small cities as they require efficient and effective management to
operate in a productive manner. Like small cities, an airport is comprised of a variety of different
systems, facilities, users, and regulations that are all interconnected. This complex and dynamic
environment has proven to be taxing on existing infrastructure over the past several decades as
passenger enplanements continue to reach record highs with a projected 1 billion passengers set to
travel worldwide by 2021 (Price 2011). For airports to achieve these lofty goals, they must tie
sustainability initiatives and objectives into the capital improvement budget process which requires
coordination with a variety of different stakeholders. This essay aims to explore various best practices
that can alleviate existing waste within the airport infrastructure environment in the United States and
obstacles that may be encountered while attempting to implement such solutions. It will also formulate
arguments for and against the implementation of greener initiatives from various industry
stakeholders. The scope of this research primarily focuses on renewable power generation, innovative
terminal design, and passenger incentives to make greener choices while traveling. These three
components correspond to the critical components that make up the airport system: the source, the
experience, and the passenger respectively. The current environmental impact of airports is one that

Hieronymus Bosch Essay
For my final project I chose to do a study on the artist Hieronymus Bosch, or more specifically I
decided to focus on his use of owls in his various paintings. Bosch was a very interesting lad and his
paintings lean toward the bizarre end of a normalcy spectrum. Individuals likeminded to Bosch
fascinate me. My mind does not function or view things the same way and I find it very intriguing. I
cannot even imagine what types of discussions (much less guess the probable subjects) Bosch would
have had with his fellow artists in his time.
A secondary reason I chose to explore the meanings behind the use of owls is because I have a
personal fascination with owls. I already knew that owls are well known for their association wisdom,
as well as the association with specific knowledge and erudition that can see through obscurity (and as
the bird of Athena/Minerva, the goddess of wisdom), the owl appears frequently in the emblems of

Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense
The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the
film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer understand
the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a boy named Cole
Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees things that other
people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see ghosts, among people as if
living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe tries to help Cole with his
problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other patients, Vincent Grey, who was
a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director uses foreshadowing, symbolism and
motif to construct the theme of communication within the film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth
Sense director M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing to hint to the viewers what will happen next
throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a valuable tool more than just once throughout the
motion picture. For example, in the beginning Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home.
Vincent Grey was a former patient of Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that
he had failed him and then Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That
would be a fatal wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a
flashback. The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example
indicates that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only
person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to
communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see. This
is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe only wore
an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears anything
besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. Another foreshadow is in the beginning, when
Cole speaks to Dr. Crowe in the church he spoke in

Did you know that an astonishing 43.4 percent of the people in America do not pay any income taxes

money. People that pay no taxes still get to enjoy the benefits. The United States needs to look at
which tax is fairer to the people and easier to administer by the government. Although some may

A revolutionary change in our tax system is fundamental to re energizing the American economy and
restoring the American dream (Moore 1). Currently, there are two major plans being considered to try
and fix the tax system in the United States. These two plans are the Flat Tax and the National Retail
Sales Tax. Both the Flat Tax and a National Sales Tax would replace today s discriminatory tax
structure with a single low rate. Either plan would promote the kind of capital formation that America
needs to boost workers incomes and raise long term economic growth (Mitchell 1). This means that
the flat tax would take away the savings from the government and pass them on to the citizens and
businesses. By doing this, there would be a rise in long term economic growth. The national sales tax
would replace our current income tax system by taxing goods and services. Under this system of
taxation, people would pay taxes on every item purchased and not on income. This would help the
economy through sales. There would no longer be an inheritance tax or a capital gains tax. The
government would impose a 17.65 percent tax on the value of all final sales to consumers. To protect
lower income citizens, the government would send all households periodic rebate checks, the net
effect of which would be to offset the tax burden on purchase up to the poverty level (Mitchell 2). This
national sales tax is a popular

look reveals that Almost Famous, like most films worth their salt, is yet another incarnation of the
greatest and only mythological adventure, The Hero s Journey. This relationship can be explained
using the framework of Joseph Campbell s phenomenal book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces, ...

He doesn t refuse the call. It s his mother that needs convincing. As long as I know this is just a hobby,
she says, dropping her son off at a Black Sabbath concert. Her reluctance evokes the protective aspect
of the THRESHOLD GUARDIAN (Campbell 82). Notebook in hand, William knocks at the
backstage door. The surly bouncer that answers is the personification of another aspect of the
THRESHOLD GUARDIAN, an ogre of ill will who slams the door on William because he s not on
the list. William joins a nearby cluster of waiting girls and is instantly smitten by the lovely Penny
Lane not a groupie, but a retired Band Aid. When the girls get whisked backstage, Penny promises to
try to get him a pass, establishing herself as one of his ALLIES.
As William waits, the members of the band Stillwater arrive late to the show. Recognizing them, he
introduces himself as a journalist and asks for an interview. They refuse, yelling, The enemy! A rock
writer. It s no accident that this nickname sticks. The band members particularly Russell Hammond,
the guitarist are the ENEMIES of William s adventure. Far from traditional, out and out villains, these
antagonists take more curiously fluid, ambiguous forms. (Campbell 97) They are the
SHAPESHIFTERS that Lester Bangs has warned him against, the fake friends that will ruin rock and
roll. It s not until William flatters them with his detailed knowledge of their music that they offer up a
fickle form of friendship, bringing

  • 2. King Arthur Archer Biography I walked by the crowds of people clamoring to take pictures in front of the White House, and towards the guardhouse just to the side of the front of the building. Along with my PBS mentors, I was buzzed in and handed my ID and Invitation to the Secret Service officer at the booth. I was ushered inside with the rest of my group following behind me. We submitted our equipment to the officers to be scanned and then were issued an honor that very few people ever get to experience: issued White House press passes. We then were led from the gatehouse up towards the Press wing and the White House to meet, photograph, and be congratulated by the most powerful man in the world. That opportunity to go to the White House film festival and receive a press ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I got up at 4 in the morning during winter break and walked to school in the rain to set up a Go Pro to get a time lapse sequence of the installation of the automatic doors at the school, and I filmed as Governor Greg Abbott and Archer Hadley unveiled the new doors at the opening ceremony. After we had finished filming, the PBS NewsHour team began writing the story together and editing it for the final product. Once completed, we submitted the film to competitions in hopes to attract even more attention to our cause. Though we knew we had created a strong product, no one expected us to win as many awards as we did, and we certainly did not expect to be invited to the White House. Not only was our news team all invited to showcase The Archer Hadley Story in Washington DC, but also I and one other student were given White House press passes, which gave us exclusive access to get footage of our experience. At the White House, I had the opportunity to meet actors and industry members such as director Steve Mcqueen and actor Kal Penn. I also attended a press briefing, which included Obama s March Madness Picks. I participated in a full day workshop that covered topics spanning from the ethics of journalism to acting techniques. To top it all off, I had the opportunity to take pictures of the White House Press Secretary and President Obama. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Article Critique On Carbohydrate And Protein During Training Article Critiques Assignment Six Hall, A. H., Leveritt, M. D., Ahuja, K. D., Shing, C. M. (2013). Coingestion of carbohydrate and protein during training reduces training stress and enhances subsequent exercise performance. Applied Physiology, Nutrition Metabolism, 38(6), 597 604. Despite extensive research on the benefits of carbohydrate (CHO) ingestion improving endurance performance, there are still a lot of questions in the literature about whether or not the simultaneous ingestion of CHO and protein is advantageous compared to other methods in enhancing performance (Hall et al., 2013). According to Hall and colleagues (2013), there have been an number of studies that have shown potentially performance enhancing benefits of co ingestion of protein and CHO such as enhanced glycogen synthesis post exercise, decreased muscle soreness, muscle damage, positive net protein balance, and even modest performance benefits (Hall et al., 2013). Purpose. Hall and colleagues (2013) looked to determine the potential impact of protein and CHO co ingestion has compared to isoenergetic CHO beverage during exercise . Specifically, Hall and colleagues (2013) wanted to explore the impact that consumption of such a beverage would have on cycling performance after a four hour rest period. Also, the impact that consumption would have on blood plasma markers of muscle damage and muscle soreness, as well as insulin and glucose levels (Hall et al., 2013). Methods. A modest sample ... • 4. Studying Chemical Engineering At Mcgill University There are numerous ways to teach a new subject to someone, some strategies work better than others depending on the discipline. Now, I am concluding my final semester of Honours Health Science and will be going to study Chemical engineering at McGill University. Though I do not see myself being a teacher in the near future, I hope that I can continue to tutor people in science based classes and perhaps one day teach the subject after getting the appropriate degree needed to be a teacher in Higher Education. I hope that one day, I can be a Chemistry teacher at either the CEGEP level, or at the University level. I am choosing this particular discipline, since I am familiar very comfortable with the subject, and because of how Chemistry is everywhere; it s in the foods we eat, everything we touch, and everything we see. Along with that, every science student at CEGEP level must complete at least 2 Chemistry courses before graduating, and 3 for those in the Health Sciences. Based on what I have seen at College level, certain teaching strategies are better suited than others depending on the course being taught, and also based on the amount of free time a student has that can be invested in a class. The best suited educational philosophies for teaching Chemistry would have to be Realism and Pragmatism. Realism is very well suited to studying the subject, because of how students learn through studying what goes on in reality (not just in theory) and due to how the philosophy is ... • 5. Machiavellian Evaluation of Hamlet Niccolo Machiavelli is undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic figures in the long evolving history of political thought of modern Europe. No other doctrine of any other political theorist has been so intensely dissected, read, reread and researched upon even after five hundred years. Machiavelli has been accused and accepted, revered and rejected, celebrated and condemned very few political theorists have actually managed to cause such diverse reactions in the minds of people all over the world. It is understandable that the main cause of such diverse and contradictory reactions is the so called immorality in the text. Undoubtedly, Machiavelli advices the Prince to be as opportunistic and immoral as possible. A prince and especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He should have wiped off the royal clan to eliminate the possibility of revenge and then he should have ruled with an iron fist.. putting down the general population and then satisfying them later. • 6. The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canada as their land and way of life is special to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and separation. Quebec is also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4 geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada. Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the first permanent French settlement in 1608. The settlement of Quebec was made to establish fur trading posts, explore more land using the St. Lawrence River, maintain relationships with the Indigenous people, and travel further and faster ... • 9. Biological Pathways And Signaling Within The Brain One field of study in the realm of biology that still leaves much to be discovered is neuroscience, more specifically, the neurological pathways and signaling within the brain. While there have been many developments and breakthroughs in identifying areas of activity and neural pathways, there are still many obstacles to overcome and discoveries to be made. The authors of the journal High fidelity optical reporting of neuronal electrical activity with an ultrafast fluorescent voltage sensor sought to overcome one such obstacle. They understood the potential for fluorescent proteins to be used for visualizing the firing of action potentials throughout neuronal pathways of the brain, but realized that such proteins were unable to accurately record higher frequency signaling across synapses where there was frequent action potential activity. Within this journal, they describe the methods used to produce a new fluorescent protein, accelerated sensor of action potential 1(ASAP1), and the benefits that it can provide to the field of visualizing the activity of action potentials as they propagate through synapses in the brain. They hypothesized that ASAP1 should be able to give definitive fluorescent readings for the activity of action potentials propagating through the brain, even in areas with high frequency activity that have not been measurable before. In order to create this revolutionary new fluorescent visualization protein, the researchers had to test it in many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Roles Of Benazir Bhutto And Indira Gandhi Of India In the contemporary world, references to dynasties refer more often to sports teams than to political regimes. Yet, not long ago two political leaders owed much of their rise to political prominence due to their dynastical heritage. These political leaders were Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan and Indira Gandhi of India. The reasons why dynastic connections have been important to the election of these women leaders is because of their family legacy and the political instability of their respective nations. In discussing these two women and these two accompanying themes, insights into the importance of their gender will be revealed, showing that gender was both irrelevant and significant. It was irrelevant due to dynastic connections, yet significant when considering Bhutto was prime minister of a Muslim majority country and both women led societies with a strong patriarchal culture. Both Benazir Bhutto and Indira Gandhi had fathers who served as prime ministers of their respective nations and both of their fathers were incredibly popular during their tenure in office. Their popularity created a stable base of supporters for the Bhutto s and Gandhi s and the last names of Benazir and Indira undoubtedly carried much weight during their campaign for election due to the success of their respective paterfamilias. It is interesting to consider socio economic context of the two nations and how this played a role in voters deciding who to cast their vote for. India and Pakistan share ... • 12. Delivery Of The Keys To Saint Peter The aim of this paper is to examine two different pieces of art. In one corner we have Rogier van der Weyden, Deposition and in the other corner we have Pietro Perugino, Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter. Both paintings are innovative with respect to the period that it was done in. As I move along in this paper, I am going to examine an art piece and compare it to the other. Let s begin by discussing the difference between the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance was based in the south and common times referred to as the stage model. The reason that it is called the stage model is because art in that time period were primary focused on linear perspective. Meanwhile, the Northern Renaissance was based in the north, in countries like the Netherlands and Germany. From time to time we will hear it be referred to as the Mirror model. Northern Renaissance art is commonly known for its intricate detail. The Deposition is a great example of Northern Renaissance art while the Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter is a ... If we zoom in on the Weyden s painting, we can see just how well he was able to capture the detail of each individual s hair and even the wrinkles in their foreheads. Every strand of hair is accentuated and every wrinkle is emphasized. To top it off, we are able to see and in some way feel the emotion of each individual due to the realism of their expression. Then we look at Perugino painting and realize that it is severely lacking in precise detail. Each individual has the same or slightly modified hair style and their facial expressions are standard. I am not emotionally connected to the painting. I am not sure if what is happening in the image is a good or bad thing. A person s expression tells a lot about them and unfortunately Perugino was not able to reach the level that Weyden did when it comes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The media continuously portrays the Middle East as nation filled with terrorist whilst the West are portrayed as the nation that is trying to make peace. There have been so many misconceptions that have made both cultures create a barrier between them because of how both cultures are portrayed through the media. Many in the West, view Muslims as fanatical, violent and as lacking tolerance. Muslims in the Middle East and Asia have the same feelings towards the west as they view them as violent and extremist but also selfish, immoral and greedy. How America Perceives Muslims and the Middle East Islamophobia existed in America before the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, but it was not as harsh as it was back then, but it did increase after the terror attacks and with the media adding more misconceptions (Sinlak, n.d.). Some of the perceptions that most Americans had of the Middle East was that they were rich with oil, lived a lavish life and consisted of deserts. They did not have the idea of the Middle East being a terrorist region where there was always war. However, after 9/11 the negative views started to increase, and Muslims and the Middle East were viewed very negatively. When we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The human resources department consists of one person, who is also the bookkeeper. When an application comes in, it goes to her and she sorts out the one who just do not have the qualifications we need. She then calls and sets up interviews for these people. From this point, it is a bit of a jumble, but typically it hits the same basics. The candidate speaks to the manager of the area looking for personnel, and usually approves or disapproves of him/her on the spot. Then the ball goes back into the bookkeeper court and she sends them for a drug test, issues an employment packet, and a timeport that will record their hours for payroll. • 16. Literary Analysis Of A Personal Narrative In Frank... Kelley Simon s anecdote, Frank Sinatra s Gum, is a literacy narrative about an outcast teenage girl s personal account of her riveting interview with the one and only Frank Sinatra. The narrative illustrates Simon s internal struggle over how to successfully become part of a school clique of girls and her external struggle with Frank Sinatra. Her motivation for the interview, her self identity, and her ultimate decision all play a part in her methods. She uses rhetorical devices throughout the autobiographical sketch of Sinatra that help portray her true feelings. Simon s exaggerated use of imagery and sensory language, parallelism, and the modes of persuasion all dramatize the main focus in distinguishing between the allusion of an image and reality. In the beginning of the article, the author utilizes parallelism to compare her own father to Frank Sinatra. She claims that she liked how [Sinatra] was Sicilian as many of [her] father s friends and clients were (Simon 1). However, Simon does admit that he was a pug like Frankie in that both were unreasonable, illogical, and self centered (Simon 1). Both resorted to a physical means in order to resolve their differences. Sinatra reminds Simon of her father, and in such a way that allows her to admire him while she struggles with her uncertainty on whether or not she likes him. Simon uses descriptive imagery and sensory language to allow the reader a vicarious experience. To demonstrate how idolized Sinatra was at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. A Summary On Adlerian Theory Adlerian Theory Todd Overstreet Liberty University Abstract Adlerian theory, which is named after the famous psychotherapist Alfred Adler, is used mainly to give emphasis to birth order, theories relating to inferiority and superiority, individual life styles, and social interests as the main workings of personality. In Adlerian theory, mental well being is decided by the degree of social contribution that is helpful to the greater community to the extent that one incorporates and advances the social context, therefore the size of his or her psychological well being. Social contributions are heightened with the decrease of inaccurate beliefs. This can often steer us to have maladaptive feelings of inferiority or superiority. The objective of battling untrue beliefs is achieved through comprehension of family groups, youthful recollections as well as dreams. (Livingston, 2009) History of Theory Alfred Adler, who lived from1870 1937, was a world famous theorist and psychiatrist. He emphasized the need to learn about people inside of their social setting. Throughout the early 1900 s, he started concentrating on such critical and modern problems such as egalitarianism, parental education, and effect of the birth order, way of life and the holism of people. Along with this, comes varying external impacts which severely alter the cultural, political, social, and personal identity of a country both during and long after the Colonial Era. The evidence of these established changes can be found in the novels; Dragon s Village, Things Fall Apart, and Man of the People surrounding China and Africa. Along with Deepa Mehta s period films, Earth and Water and Iciar Bollain s juxtaposition piece, Even the Rain that emphasize the circumstances that occurred in India and Bolivia. A master at providing alternative context to Africa and concepts of decolonization, Chinua Achebe wrote a great amount of literary work, including, Things Fall Apart (1956) and A Man of the People (1966). The first novel, occurring both before and during Nigeria s neo colonial period, depicts the relationship between Okonkwo and his Igbo tribe in Umuofia. With an identity heavily dependent on his social status and structure, Achebe s protagonist communicates his extreme distaste for the entrance of European colonizers: Okonkwo was well known throughout the nine villages and even beyond. His fame rested on solid personal achievements. As a young man of eighteen he had brought honor to his village by throwing Amalinze the Cat. In this reference, the two criterion optimization problem is converted into single optimization problem and is solved by a gradient based optimization algorithm. Jaeger et al. Eli, the temple priest prophesied to Hannah that her desires to bear a child will be answered. It came to pass where Hannah bore Samuel, and joyfully offered him as a nazirite for all time to remain in the presence of the Lord forever (**). After Samuel was ... I am not certain if the issue is so much about having Kings rather than judges, but the posture of their hearts and the motivations to have this new type of leadership. It appears to some degree that to be a unified nation that will soon become a distinguishable nation, a form of government was needed quite possibly to some degree. But it does appear evidently clear that the Lord was displeased with their motives. The posture of their hearts were not seeking the Lord s will above all else. • 34. Theropod Dinosaurs Research Paper Dinosaurs capture the attention of children and adults alike, and many people think that they are long gone. You might be surprised to find that they are not extinct, but rather perching in your backyard. The theory that theropods evolved into birds was proposed nearly a century and a half ago and is supported by more and more modern evidence. You will find that the distinction between birds and dinosaurs will become difficult, as they have so many parallels. The similarities between birds and dinosaurs strongly suggest that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs. The theory that theropod dinosaurs are the ancestors of modern birds originated after the discovery of Archeopteryx lithographica in 1861 in Solnhofen, Germany. Thomas Huxley, a strong supporter of Charles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ratites and penguins are two groups of flightless birds we have today. The origin of flight is an ongoing debate from scientists, but there are two main theories: that flight evolved arboreally or that it evolved from ground dwelling dinosaurs. Both have compelling evidence. The theory that flight started in the trees begins with WAIR (Wing Assisted Incline Running). Discovered in 2001 by Ken Dial at the University of Montana, it is the way many ground dwelling birds get into trees to rest at night. These birds would flap their wings back and forth (rather than up and down) to generate traction. The larger the wing size, the steeper the angle a bird could run up (Holtz 149). Also supporting this theory is the presence of toes adapted for perching in several species of dinosaurs. From there, the dinosaurs could have glided from tree to tree and eventually taken flight. A ground dwelling origin of flight also has convincing evidence. A study found that non avian feathered theropods could get a boost of speed by flapping their wings (Sloan 51). Therefore, longer feathers and bigger wings meant faster speeds until flight could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Mass-Western Protagonist Essay example In form, The Tall T is a fairly straightforward melodrama, utilizing familiar stock characters such as the ignoble swindler, the naïve woman, the honorable bandit leader, and most importantly the cowboy hero forced into the role of gunfighter and man of action by desperate circumstances. In these respects, The Tall T, though produced in 1957, is representative of the great mass of simplistic, histrionic films which constituted the majority of the Western genre output during the 1920s through the 1950s; the film is perhaps even an exemplar of the subgenre, as director Budd Boetticher most likely drew upon the most typical of the accumulated conventions of the B Western for inspiration. Yet the final product does not transcend the subgenre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the ethical plane, the level of this preëminence is such that it manifests itself as a tangible aura Frank, the bandit leader, is drawn towards Brennan, even coming right out and saying, I don t know why I like you, Brennan, in an unconscious recognition of virtue; the woman implicitly trusts Brennan from the moment he hitches a ride on her stagecoach. As far as physical supremacy is concerned, the gunfighting scenes in the movie are few, but once Brennan finally gets his hands on a gun, the battle is as good as over Brennan s marksmanship is clearly superior even to Chingo s. In sum, once Brennan has been caught up in the dramatic situation of the film, he is unquestionably in control of his fate, even in captivity. And yet this unquestionable dominance is plausible only with an equally unquestioning credulity in the internal logic of the film; the viewer must exert considerable suspension of disbelief in order for The Tall T to work as it was intended. Such willing involvement is simply acceptance of a genre s prevailing conventions; Edward Buscombe, in his introduction to The BFI Companion to the Western, notes that the Western is not merely a milieu or a way of life, but another world, or at least another country (16). However, the world of the Western is hardly homogeneous and separate; over the years the iconography of the Western has altered, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Exploring Various Best Practices That Can Alleviate... Airports can often be described as small cities as they require efficient and effective management to operate in a productive manner. Like small cities, an airport is comprised of a variety of different systems, facilities, users, and regulations that are all interconnected. This complex and dynamic environment has proven to be taxing on existing infrastructure over the past several decades as passenger enplanements continue to reach record highs with a projected 1 billion passengers set to travel worldwide by 2021 (Price 2011). For airports to achieve these lofty goals, they must tie sustainability initiatives and objectives into the capital improvement budget process which requires coordination with a variety of different stakeholders. This essay aims to explore various best practices that can alleviate existing waste within the airport infrastructure environment in the United States and obstacles that may be encountered while attempting to implement such solutions. It will also formulate arguments for and against the implementation of greener initiatives from various industry stakeholders. The scope of this research primarily focuses on renewable power generation, innovative terminal design, and passenger incentives to make greener choices while traveling. These three components correspond to the critical components that make up the airport system: the source, the experience, and the passenger respectively. The current environmental impact of airports is one that leaves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Hieronymus Bosch Essay For my final project I chose to do a study on the artist Hieronymus Bosch, or more specifically I decided to focus on his use of owls in his various paintings. Bosch was a very interesting lad and his paintings lean toward the bizarre end of a normalcy spectrum. Individuals likeminded to Bosch fascinate me. My mind does not function or view things the same way and I find it very intriguing. I cannot even imagine what types of discussions (much less guess the probable subjects) Bosch would have had with his fellow artists in his time. A secondary reason I chose to explore the meanings behind the use of owls is because I have a personal fascination with owls. I already knew that owls are well known for their association wisdom, as well as the association with specific knowledge and erudition that can see through obscurity (and as the bird of Athena/Minerva, the goddess of wisdom), the owl appears frequently in the emblems of scholarly publishing houses and book stores (Biedermann, 250.) However, Bosch chose to give his owls different, unconventional symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other depiction is the owl as a sinner being dark and having fallen away from God evidenced by the passage in Leviticus 11:6 which identifies owls as unclean creatures, therefore in a negative light. The concept of owls symbolizing the turning from spiritual light is supported additionally through a passage from Dictionary of Symbolism: Cultural Icons and the Meanings Behind Them in which it is explained that this new symbolic meaning is derived from many factors including nocturnal habits, solitude, silent flight, and plaintive cry (Biedermann, ... • 39. Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer understand the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a boy named Cole Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees things that other people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see ghosts, among people as if living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe tries to help Cole with his problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other patients, Vincent Grey, who was a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to construct the theme of communication within the film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing to hint to the viewers what will happen next throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a valuable tool more than just once throughout the motion picture. For example, in the beginning Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home. Vincent Grey was a former patient of Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that he had failed him and then Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That would be a fatal wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a flashback. The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example indicates that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see. This is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe only wore an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears anything besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. Another foreshadow is in the beginning, when Cole speaks to Dr. Crowe in the church he spoke in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Replacing the Income Tax With the Flat Tax Essay Did you know that an astonishing 43.4 percent of the people in America do not pay any income taxes (McCullagh 1)? This is roughly 65.6 million people that aren t paying taxes and this is putting our economy and country at its breaking point. Our current tax system penalizes those that work and save money. People that pay no taxes still get to enjoy the benefits. The United States needs to look at which tax is fairer to the people and easier to administer by the government. Although some may disagree, the Flat Tax should replace the income tax to simplify and bring fairness to the system, increase income, and create jobs. Currently, the United States has a federal income tax that is very difficult to understand, to comply with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A revolutionary change in our tax system is fundamental to re energizing the American economy and restoring the American dream (Moore 1). Currently, there are two major plans being considered to try and fix the tax system in the United States. These two plans are the Flat Tax and the National Retail Sales Tax. Both the Flat Tax and a National Sales Tax would replace today s discriminatory tax structure with a single low rate. Either plan would promote the kind of capital formation that America needs to boost workers incomes and raise long term economic growth (Mitchell 1). This means that the flat tax would take away the savings from the government and pass them on to the citizens and businesses. By doing this, there would be a rise in long term economic growth. The national sales tax would replace our current income tax system by taxing goods and services. Under this system of taxation, people would pay taxes on every item purchased and not on income. This would help the economy through sales. There would no longer be an inheritance tax or a capital gains tax. The government would impose a 17.65 percent tax on the value of all final sales to consumers. To protect lower income citizens, the government would send all households periodic rebate checks, the net effect of which would be to offset the tax burden on purchase up to the poverty level (Mitchell 2). This national sales tax is a popular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hero s Journey in Cameron Crowe s Film Almost Famous Almost Famous (2000) is a dramatization of writer/director Cameron Crowe s real life experiences as a teenage rock reporter for Rolling Stone. Based on thinly veiled autobiographical material from the precocious beginnings of Crowe s early career, the screenplay shapes sentimental memories into movie magic. But how did Crowe give his own coming of age tale such universal appeal? A closer look reveals that Almost Famous, like most films worth their salt, is yet another incarnation of the greatest and only mythological adventure, The Hero s Journey. The surly bouncer that answers is the personification of another aspect of the THRESHOLD GUARDIAN, an ogre of ill will who slams the door on William because he s not on the list.
