Significance Of Dracula
To what extent was Bram Stoker s Dracula based on historical figures?
In 1897, Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, the story of a monstrous Transylvanian count who terrorized
local villages and fed on the peasants who lived in them. The book is today widely recognized as a
historically significant literary work, and its importance has caused many scholars to debate whether
Bram Stoker s main character Dracula was actually inspired by real historical figures.
Many scholars believe that Vlad the 3rd or Vlad the Impaler was the direct inspiration for Count
Dracula. Vlad the 3rd was the son of King Vlad the 2nd Dracul and as Prince, was the heir to the
Wallachian throne. He was born during the year of 1431 and died during a battle in December 1476.

Journey into Night by Eugene O Neill and Macbeth by...
Supposed someone asked you to write a story about death. Would you fill it with strange and
horrifying sounds and sights; gruesome acts and frightening ghosts like Macbeth? Or would you write
about a seemingly normal family from the outside, where the unknown hides from behind common
decisions and objects. First and foremost, Long Day Journey into night by Eugene O neill and
Macbeth by Shakespeare share a common theme with each other. The characters in both of these
dramas lack communication with one another.
Let s examine Macbeth first. The playwright Macbeth begins with Macbeth, who is thane of Glamis
and Banquo being introduced to the Weird Sisters after a victorious battle. The Weird Sisters or
otherwise known as the Three Witches. The Three Witches convince Macbeth that he had a great
destiny awaiting him. All hail, Macbeth! that shalt be king hereafter. (Shakespeare, Act 1, scene 3, line
53) Once Lady Macbeth hears of what the Witches have foretold her scheme starts brewing. She has
one goal in mind and will do everything in her power to influence Macbeth to carry out her
plans.Macbeth believes what these witches have prophesied so much that he is willing to get it at any
cost. Lady Macbeth feels that Macbeth isn t man enough to carry out the deed of killing Duncan.
When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so
much more the man. (Act I,scene VII, line 55 57) She uses Macbeth s weakness to convince him that

Japan s Foreign Policy During The End Of The Twentieth...
In the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan was a strong militaristic country that
held a strong power and influence in the Asia Pacific region. It was an expansionist and strong
imperialist nation similar as the Western colonizers such as England, the Dutch, Russia, France and
Germany. The Japanese empire extended from the Dutch East Indies in the south to Manchuria in the
north before the country surrendered on September 1945 to the Allies. The Allied Power led by
General Douglas MacArthur had occupied Japan for several years before it was fully liberated in
1952. After the occupation, Japan s foreign policy was given back to its government. The country took
the opportunity given to repair its relations with its neighbours. Some historians claimed that the
reconciliation period was successful through several treaties agreed upon the East Asian countries in
the 1960s. However, it was different side of the story when the issue was asked to the Japanese former
colonies. A lot of its people will claim that they could not forget what the Empire of Japan had done to
them. Hence, it would be wise to ask how does Japan war history would affect its relations with its
East Asia neighbours?
This paper will explain the two most significant impacts that the aggressive Empire of Japan history
affects its connections with its neighbours. History has caused the reconciliation process between the
countries to be delayed and continues frictions between them to occur.

Homosexuality In Grey s Anatomy
Grey s Anatomy has been one of the most popular shows on network television since 2005. While
most critics and fans agree that the first three seasons were the shows best, the storylines in the later
seasons have still been able to add new and progressive ideas into the forefront of the show. The
biggest change in storyline is when they introduced their first LGBTQ identifying main character,
Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the addition of Callie s character was extremely
monumental. As highly regarded lesbian and bisexual blog AfterEllen noted, it was quite
unprecedented to have an LGBTQ identifying character on such a popular network television show
(Warn, A Lesbian Relationship on Grey s Anatomy ?). The lesbian and bisexual ... Show more content

This idea has trickled through the LGBTQ community through the years and as Carrie Wofford
explains in Outweek magazine in 1991, it seems that for some members of the LGBTQ community,
bisexuality does not exist and, they say people [who call themselves bisexual] are just afraid to come
out [as gay] (33). Biphobia is real within the community even today. As seen in multiple recent studies
towards bisexual discrimination, it seems that although heterosexuals are more likely to express their
biphobia, [the] discrimination from the lesbian and gay community, was statistically significantly
higher, than it was expected to be (Allen). However, that is not to say that all people have these
feelings. Support for the LGBTQ community within the entertainment industry has been progressing
slowly over time . Since the B in LGBTQ was added in the 1990s, bisexuals have faced many issues
because they fit in, both the straight world and the gay world (Exquis). As this site explains, bisexuals
not only have to deal with biphobia, but many other forms of discrimination that makes it extremely
difficult for them to survive in today s society the same goes for transgender people. Grey s took
notice of this issue and ultimately became an ally for the LGBTQ community during that 2008 2009

Mood Disorders Video Analysis
For this week s reflection assignment, I chose a video titled Mood disorders: Major depressive
disorder, and bipolar Type 1. I chose this video because several family members of mine have (had)
depression, suicidal ideation, and a few others. The video was provided by way of youtube.com, and
was uploaded on 14 Feb 15 by Stomp on Step 1. It features Brian McDaniel as the narrator of the
video. The video begins with a stagnant introduction by Mr. McDaniel, and explains this video is
covering the topic of mood disorders. The common definition of mood disorder is given, a collection
of psychiatric conditions that involve a pervasive distortion of one s emotional state. He also notes that
everyone has normal, periodic changes, and this common occurrence. What makes mood disorders is
the extreme changes unrelated to a person s circumstances. There are more often then not a person will
have a near normal affect in between manic episodes. A normal mood of neither positive or negative is
known as euthymia (neutral). Mood can be classified as happy, or sad on the opposite spectrum. Mr.
McDaniel has am inforgraph that shows the many stages of one s psyche. ... Show more content on

Shaidle On Bully
Is bullying a big deal? Does it scar a child for life? Does it affect a child s mental health in the future?
According to Kathy Shaidle a blogger on Taki s Magazine.com stated that, bullying merely is a fad
that is over dramatized. Kathy minimizes the true problem and prevalence bullying has in society. She
begins by stating I was never bullied. Except for once. This shows that she is ignorant in personal
experience and in the ability to have empathy with those who were bullied for years. Kathy then
argued that pop culture has broadened and over used the term Bullying . Kathy continues that Bullying
lacks medical pedigree and that it will eventually lose momentum. Kathy then turned her attention to

Kathy did not validate her claims when publishing that statement; new organizations against bullying

History Of The Steam Engine
During the early 1770s James Watt, a British inventor, made changes to the existing steam engine by
creating an engine that was not water powered. Watt hoped that the steam engine would be four times
as powerful as earlier models, allowing factories to work more efficiently. Using the steam engine,
Robert Fulton and George Stephenson made different modes of transportation for people and cargo.
Fulton created the first steam powered boat that took people and cargo along the Hudson river.
Similarly, Stephenson constructed a locomotive that carried large hauls over large distances.
An eyewitness from the event, 10 years ago, said, The steam engine that Watt has come up with is not
only extremely efficient, but has also created an influx of jobs in the manufacturing industry . Many
workers were called together to build railroads, construct canals, and even build ... Show more content

These critics also believe that the flow of people creates a greater demand for products which is
sustained by both the labor supply as well as the steam engine that decreased the time and cost that
factories had to spend on making these products. Urban cities created centers that offered a leisure
time for those who were living in the city hoping to ease the stress of the worker class.
Skeptics point to the fact that although leisure time was implemented, there were also problems with
the new steam engine as well as population growth. Builders were sometimes unable to build houses
fast enough to accommodate the incoming peoples and factories run by steam engines caused
pollution. Critics further state that this made living conditions horrifying and made for more
dangerous workplaces. The steam engine had its many impacts, but one can only believe in their own
opinion when it comes to deciding whether the steam engine helped or harmed

Canada is known for its universal health care system. Health care services across Canada are financed
by the government and follows the guidelines of the Canada Health Act (1984) Which states: to
protect, promote, and restore the physical and mental well being of residents of Canada and to

(CITE) Despite its success the Canadian health care system has some concerns associated with it and
It is important for policy makers, and the health management sector to address these issues and
provide solutions for them. Health management is a complex social goal, and a major initiative in
Canada, which is heavily relied on the public sector. One of the major issues the health care system is
currently facing the over crowded emergency departments and extremely long waiting times. . In this
paper I will discuss the issue of overcrowded hospitals as a results of the rising population of the
elderly. Many of our hospitals are over crowned, there are long waiting time, and the elderly are not
provided with sufficient care. Overcrowding will place an increasing amount of burden on the hospital
by delaying testing and diagnosis times, creating a shortage of nurses and doctors, and it may also
have a negative impact on the financial state of the hospital.
Why is it an Issue?
According to statistic Canada their will be a dramatic change in the senior population in Canada, this
mean that the entire baby boomer generation will become part of Canada s senior population which is
those aged above 65. Furthermore in 2010 statistics Canada reported that by the year 2036 the seniors
population will increase to about 23 25%. This change in the aging population of Canada has a huge
impact on the health care services. Many seniors require regular access to health care

The Book Genesis
In the book of Genesis, Jacob had many numinous encounters with God. From an experiential view
God came to Jacob in his dream and spoke with him. He allowed Jacob to see what he could do for
him as long as he obeyed his word. Jacob became enlightened and wanted to do exactly what God
said. It seemed as if Jacob had some type of revelation and began to fear God. Fear him from the point
of having faith that God would do exactly what he said as long as Jacob followed his every word.
When God steps into Jacobs mind and soul the way he did. He showed him that he is God. He is the
creator, the fixer, the almighty. The one that can make all things happen and the one that can make all
things stop. God continued to talk to Jacob in his visions as he slept. Granting him a wife and his
seeds planted gladly be all over the land which is what Jacob wanted. I feel that by Jacob not having
success in the other areas of town not getting a wife was in God s plan. His plan to keep Jacob on his
journey of being alone and in a place where he could experience God for himself. He was constantly
sent on his way receiving blessing from everyone else but God. The one that could really give Jacob
what he wanted and also connected with him spiritually. Once he was alone God entered Jacob s mind
and soul and affected him in a way that could not be done by no other. From the stretching of the
ladder, to the floating up and down of the angles, unlimitedly to God standing right by his side. God

Transgender Equality In Sports
How does one define gender? Is it in terms of sex or is a distinct term with separate qualities and
qualifications? In the past century, sports have wrestled with these questions on how to qualify and
quantify gender. By addressing these issues, whether intentional or not, the sports world has certainly
broken down some barriers to transgender equality. Nevertheless, there is certainly more work to do to
further progress transgender equality in sports and arguably it is the moral obligation of the sports
world to pursue such equality. Ultimately, transgender people should have the right to pursue
competitive careers that match their gender identity. Before addressing the issue of transgender
equality in sports one must first understand what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument centers around the idea that female transgender athletes may have unfair advantages
over their competitors due to their strength or height that is a byproduct of testosterone (Time, 2015).
This proposal has multiple flaws. First, there is the misconception that female transsexual athletes
keep the physical strength of their previously male body, but this claim is not supported by medical
facts (Krane Barak, 2012). Specifically, studies have shown that after one year a transitioning
transsexuals testosterone levels drop to be consistent with those of a cisgender female athlete, their
muscle mass decreases, their body fat redistributed to match their identity, [and] bone density is
decreased (Krane Barak, 2012). Consequently, researchers have concluded that female transsexuals
can compete in sports without having an inherent physiological advantage (Krane Barak, 2012). Now,
some may argue that based on this evidence only transsexual athletes should be allowed to compete,
which brings up my second point: the pervasive idea that male athletes are inherently superior to
female athletes. Not only is such an idea sexist in nature, it is also discriminatory. In general,
transgender males do not tend to face as much opposition to allow them to play competitively (Time,
2015). This difference in

Boarding School Seasons Chapter Summaries
Boarding School Seasons by Brenda J. Child offers a look into the boarding school experiences of
many American Indian students. Child favors unpublished sources such as letters to give an
uncensored inside look into boarding school experiences. However, she also includes other sources
such as school newspapers, oral history collections, photographs, biographies, United States
government publications, and annual reports. Government boarding schools were created to help the
American government gain more control over Indians and to push the Natives to adopt the white ways
of life such as language, skill, and education. While integration was the ultimate objective, Child sets
out to show that even with the challenges of cultural assimilation and a devastating land policy,
American Indian people, even children, placed limits on assimilation and also defined and shaped the
boarding school era. (viii) The boarding schools designed to tear American Indian families apart did
not succeed in isolating children from their tribes, but created bonds and ... Show more content on

The schools were overcrowded, students were malnourished, and the federal government neglected to
provide Native children with even the most basic necessities in the schools where they resided. (32)
This chapter also discussed the assimilation process. Government schools taught students to be
ashamed of their names, their tribal languages, and even family surnames derived from tribal
language. (29) The next chapters speak of the homesickness many students felt because of the
assimilation policies keeping children from returning home on breaks and of the diseases that spread
rapidly throughout the schools such as tuberculosis and trachoma. Through the use of letters between
students and parents, Child paints a portrait of the emotional hardships families faced from being

The Statue Of Donatello s Saint George
Donatello s Saint George is brave, is immovable but still human. Made from marble, the statue stands
monumentally in size at just over 6 10 . It is known that Donatello created the statue using the
subtraction method like many Renaissance sculptors. The figure itself is decorated with many objects
and clothing that are part of the whole build. The knight is seen proudly showing off his shield that has
a size of half his body. He is dressed in knightly clothing such as a chest plate, cloak, plate skirt, boots,
and gloves. The Statue is thought to represent the classical heroes that were masculine yet still
delicate. He appears to be ready for anything that comes in his way but still deep in thought. To add on
to the humanism, it is believed by most scholars that he is in contrapposto; he is resting on one foot
like a normal person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donatello constructed this whole figure from circa 1410 to 1415. However, the idea of the knight s
symbol came from the fact that Saint George was an actual knight in the Roman Army under the
Emperor Diocletian. His famous tale was of his victory against a plague bearing Dragon that lived in a
lake and threatened the neighboring countryside. However, this was not why Saint George was made
into a saint and/or why made into a statue. His Emperor, who thought of him as his best tribune, did
not want to kill Saint George; in fact, he offered him tremendous amounts of wealth to convert from
Christianity to Roman faith. However, with Georges loud and contempt refusals, he was ordered to be
executed and from the 4th century onward became one of the most venerated saints in

Evolution of organisms shows the development of structure...
Grouping of organisms according to the similar anatomy helps to understand their evolution and how
those organisms have being developed over millions of years. Similarly, structures of organisms have
developed over years to function better to survive on the earth. Even though some organisms are
unicellular, while some are multicelliular, both types of organisms have got particular structure to
function that helps to fulfill their needs. Thus, structure and function of the organisms, including
humans, portray the incredible creations of the nature (Campbell et al. 2008).

Even though every class has some common attributes such as segmented vertebrae, specialization of
the structure occurs in each class according to their function and the surviving environment. As such,
organisms in class reptilian have got distinctive features that of aves, chondrichthyes, mamalia, and so

snakes, lizards known as Gecko, crocodiles, and so on. The amniotic egg is the most significant
feature of reptilian. The amniotic egg is an essential stage of the life cycle of reptilian that helps them
to complete their life cycle without water. The body structure of reptilians is specialized to survive in

Locomotion is essential for reptilians to live in terrestrial environments (Campbell et al. 2008).

Rene Descartes Dream Argument
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher and scientist. He is famous for his method of doubt which is
he decided not believe things that are not sure or slightly doubted, he wished to believe things that
cannot be doubted and he knew absolutely certain about these things. So the big goal for Descartes is
to find one foundational belief and one can doubt that everyone who is skeptical about it will say that
is a hundred percent true. And we start build knowledge on it. The motivation for Descartes method
was he found that people always disagree with each other. He wants us all can agree on this one
foundation belief, one central belief then we can resolve this conflict. Descartes also gave an example
to illustrate his opinion: if you have an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the text, he said we have to take everything you think you know, everything you think is true and
doubt it. Be skeptical about any claim. If there is any possibility, even it super small chance that the
belief is wrong. We still treated it as entirely false. Because we are looking for a belief that are a
hundred percent certain about. However, there is something we are not sure or slight be doubt about it,
for instance, why two add two equal four. He knew this is truth but he didn t know why this is true, so
he created the demon argument. He said I will suppose not a supremely good God, the source of truth,
but rather an evil genius, supremely powerful and clever, who has directed his entire effort at
deceiving me. I understand this argument but we are also not a hundred percent sure whether there is a
evil demon actually exist or not. Besides, if Descartes ignore everything he is not sure about it, he may
also ignore some truth even if it s not with absolutely certainty. In the world, there will always be
something we can t explain. So just because we can t prove it, doesn t mean it s totally false. The
danger if his method of doubt is he may miss some truths. I also have some concerns about Descartes
Cogito, he said what makes us human is our minds. And my question is does it mean we are not

The Characterism Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas...
In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is one character who exemplifies the realism of human nature
more than any other, and that is Godfrey Cass. He is painted such a way that the very fabric of his
characterization begs for analysis. Eliot analyzes human nature through Godfrey s actions, or lack of
them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions subsequently make Silas Marner a novel that
draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s
passivity is the driving force of the novel and in true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him
both a victim and a villain. Godfrey is put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man (Eliot,
23). Immediately contrasted against his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to
enjoy his drink the more when other people went dry, Godfrey is painted a victim of circumstance and
bad familial relations. The condition of Godfrey Cass is one among men who had felt the keen point
of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human kindness was never driven into brutality
(Eliot, 29). Godfrey s own circumstances are not his fault, rather he is better for them because he has
not allowed them to change his nature. This framework is faulty, and nearly immediately after it is put
forth, it is revoked. He is praised for being unlike his brother, who mocks him for his good
naturedness when he says I m so easy and good natured. You ll take any

The Effects Of Overpopulation On The Environment
The current world s population is estimated at approximately six billion people in the world and even
this number can be inaccurate. According to Sernau (2012), what is harder to estimate are the effects
that this growth and change will have on our planet. When looking at overpopulation and the effects
on the environment, we look at the overpopulation in cities and countries across the nation. Many
economic problems in our society place an impact on our environment from overpopulation come
from the overuse of resources, lack of resources, and pollution. There are many solutions to this
problem but the common factor is humans have to put controls in place and take care of the
environment, so the required resources do not become extinct.
Human population growth is a major contributor to global warming, given that more people means
more resources. When reading an article on population growth on climate change (Scientific
American, 2017), it reports that many population experts believe the answer lies in improving the
health of women and children in developing nations. By reducing poverty and infant mortality,
increasing women s and girls access to basic human rights (health care, education, economic
opportunity), educating women about birth control options and ensuring access to voluntary family

Watership Down
The extraordinary novel, Watership Down, by Richard Adams is an adventure filled, meaningful piece
of literature published in London around November 1972. Although the plot is about a group of
rabbits struggling to find home, the story can be interpreted as so much more. Of course the book can
be interpreted differently especially as times change. The general meaning however remains intact.
This piece is a great example of an author speaking their voice through writing.
The beginning of the novel takes place at the home of the Owsla Rabbits, which could be classified as
a corrupt democracy. When Fiver, one of the main character s, senses something terrible is going to
happen to his home, he convinces his brother Hazel and several others to ... Show more content on

This idea may be more important than others just because it gives somewhat of a moral lesson on how
to succeed in life. Without the rabbits great work ethic and strong will they would not have made it to
Watership Down. Even after they were worn to the brim and some even injured, they kept on going
because they had a good leader and a bright vision of their future. They continued to go even when
some had became skeptical. This leads into another small side note that, no one was ever left behind.
When Pipkin, a small loyal rabbit was injured, he was not left behind. The group came up with the
water raft idea to get him across the river, because they cared and looked out for one another.Hazel
also took the time to examine him and help to heal his foot so they could continue on with their
journey. You can almost trace this back to the beginning of the book, when Hazel and Fiver were
about to embark on their trip they could have saved themselves and left, but they didn t. They warned
the others and gave an invitation to anyone that wanted to go. They tried to save anyone and everyone
that they could, because they couldn t leave anyone

Prejudice, Stereotyping and Discrimination on the Web
Prejudice, Stereotyping and discrimination on the Web People think that racism and discrimination
doesn t exist anymore, but surprisingly they do; both existed throughout human history.
Discrimination may be defined as a negative, harmful behaviour toward people based on their group
membership. Whereas prejudice which is an opinion rather than a fact; is a negative attitude toward
members of a group, that is often very strongly held. Stereotypes are individuals beliefs that members
of a group share particular attributes; someone might think that Arabs are terrorists, or doctors are

Socratic Seminar On The Hobbit
During a Socratic Seminar about the Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien, many interesting topics were discussed.
We spent the majority of the time talking about the main character Bilbo. During the beginning of the
book, Bilbo was a very quiet and reserved hobbit. When there was a chance of going on an adventure,
though, Bilbo ran out the front door without a second though. We ended up discussing why he did this.
People said that Bilbo ran out for the adventure for a number of reasons, however I thought that he did
it on pure impulse, and I made sure to make that opinion know. I think that, because of the opinions of
the other hobbits, Bilbo was convincing himself that adventures were foolhardy and not worth the
effort. However, Bilbo actually loves adventures,

My First Professional Reflection
Among the numerous School of Pharmacy outcomes, the one I have chosen to evaluate my progress is

The dynamic nature of the practice of pharmacy requires pharmacists to be aware of the need for

After my freshmen year, I was so inspired by how much help I got from the tutors that I decided to
tutor calculus. I was inspired because I knew how tough it was to adjust to a new school system when
one is swamped with many assignments. Although I had gone through a couple of training sessions at
the beginning of the semester, I didn t know what to expect for my first tutoring session. My first
session was with a girl named Jamie. Jamie was having problems solving logarithmic equations. I
started by taking a look at her notes from class and it seemed like the professor went over a few
problems in class. As a result, Jamie was having difficulty with solving questions unlike what had
been solved in class. These were problems I had gone through last year so I knew how to explain the
concept to her. I started by asking her questions so she could think through the questions. She
struggled through answering the questions but as time went on she gained more confidence and was
able to work through the problem herself. I was so proud of her.
I enjoyed a Calculus study hall that met every Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. This study session was

Biography of Carol Johnson
Carol Johnson, born September 6th 1929, is one of the leading ladies in the field of landscape
architecture. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and spent most of her childhood outside hiking
and camping. The love for the outdoors was inspired by her parents; a lawyer and a school principal.
According to Lewis (2014), the parents were avid and skilled gardeners who frequently talked to her
about plants and nature. The family also vacationed on the Massachusetts island; she has memories of
walking along the Gaylord Cliffs, where Native Americans used to live. This created a nature and
culture connection in her mind that has guided her till now (Lewis, 2014).
She is a graduate from Harvard University with a degree in landscape architecture in 1957 and was the
only woman student in the Graduate School of Design s landscape Program then. Her personal growth
is attributed to professors such as Sigfried Gideon, the author of Space, Time and Architecture. During
her time at Harvard, Johnson picked sentiment in environmentally sensitive landscape design and
became acquainted with collaborative design processes (Sickle, 2008). These two concepts formed a
major part of her design approach and ethic.
One of her first employments after graduation was with the Architects Collaborative in 1958. She only
worked there for one year though after which she started her own practice, the Carol R. Johnson
Associates, Inc. A lot of the encouragement and business came mainly from her old

Is it Justifiable to kill?
With killing another you have their life in your hands. Such as last year when I came home to my dog

Is Zionism Still Relevant?
There is no difference whatever between anti Semitism and the denial of Israel s statehood. Classical
anti Semitism denies the equal right of Jews as citizens within society. Anti Zionism denies the equal

Lean Production Is A Benefit For Selling Products
Lean Production In short, lean production is essentially about receiving more from less. The point of
this idea is to lessen the amount of assets or quantity, so the main focus can be utilized as a benefit for
selling products and furthering assistance to customers. All while in sync, it is about making the
association of the business or supply chain more productive, vaulable and more importantly effective.
Lean production can be characterized from various perspectives, however the most mainstream is the
elimination of all waste and continuous improvement of productivity. (Arnold, Chapman, 2012, p.340)
Waste means something besides the base measure of hardware, parts, space, material, creation time
and laborers time which make it completely important to increase the value of the item. Lean
production is built on various effective ideas such as continuous improvement, organizing the
business, and just in time production, which makes lean production so effective in supply chains. Lean
production includes wiping out what might be wasteful and hence utilizing less energy, supplys,
capacity and time. In return, this lessens costs and helps companies, such as supply chains, excel in
business. The three basic values of supply chains are simplicity, consistency and responsibility. Lean
production ties in quite well with these qualities. For instance, supply chain stores are basic in outline
and all stores are fundamentally the same which makes them consistent, which is

There were long term and short term causes of WWI. While the long term causes made war inevitable,
the short term causes provided the spark that started the war. The first long term cause was the rise of
nationalism. This was a general rise in pride for your country, and the belief that your country is better
than anybody else s. Many of the other causes of war contributed to the rise of nationalism, including
imperialism, militarism, and the industrial revolution. Confederations of states that would eventually
link up like Italy and Germany finally unified as one country. Instead of being split up, they were one
force. Part of nationalism was militarism, because one of the ideal things to build up as a country is

In these policies, European countries would claim land as their own in other parts of the world that
weren t as developed, like Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Tension would rise between these
countries because of this claiming of land, especially when it came to Africa. It was called the
Scramble for Africa, and almost all of Africa was taken under control by European powers, so
territorial conflicts were not uncommon. This ties into nationalism because as these countries gained
confidence, they spread their influence throughout the less developed world. Another movement that
could be attributed to the start of WWI is the industrial revolution, It started in England but eventually
spread throughout Europe and even to the new world. In this movement, many new technologies were

How Is Hamlet Aristotelian Tragic Hero
Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, centers around Hamlet s contemplation of killing his uncle in order to
avenge his father s death. Hamlet s decisions and values come into play in determining his fate.
However, Hamlet s intended action to avenge his father s death, rather his motivation, falls short due
to his moral dilemma. Overall, Hamlet s actions and values work together to create a connection
between Hamlet s state of mind and the condition of Denmark as well as, epitomize him as an
Aristotelian tragic hero. At the same time, his motivation is at odds with his need to bring justified
order to the kingdom.
Shakespeare s Hamlet fits the definition the Aristotelian tragic hero. This archetype is shown through
Hamlet s values and actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet believes that he will not be doing his father justice if he kills Claudius after he is forgiven of
his sins. He goes on to say, To take him in the purging of his soul / When he is fit and seasoned for his
passage?... / Up, sword, and know thou a more horrid hent (1659 3.3). Not taking advantage of the
opportunity, Hamlet once again falls short in fulfilling his vow to his father. Although, Hamlet is given
a perfect opportunity to kill Claudius, his tendency to constantly reflect on the situation and whether
he should kill Claudius or not is often delayed. Hamlet s constant contemplation becomes his major
flaw, delaying him from killing Claudius. This flaw is yet another aspect of Aristotle s definition of a
tragic hero. Another element of the Aristotelian tragic hero is the reversal of fate, rather a change for
the worse. Hamlet s continuous delay in killing Claudius determines an alternative course for his fate.
He has the potential to claim the throne, restore order in the kingdom, and keep his family in power of
the nation. However, these outcomes are only possible if Hamlet can execute his plan with swiftness.
Thus, Hamlet reverses his fate by procrastinating in avenging his father s death. Instead, Hamlet
spends most of the play in devising a plan that allows him to take the throne without having to face
punishment for killing Claudius. While Claudius is swift in plotting and carrying out his actions
against Hamlet, Hamlet often puts off his duty to

The Driving Down The Road
There are millions and millions of cars on the road these days. With every car on the road there is a
driver operating the vehicle. Every single driver has habits that they acquired throughout the years of
driving. Some don t use blinkers, others tend to go over the speed limit, and others don t wear
seatbelts. Majority of those drivers can fall into one of the following categories: the carefree reckless
driver, the overly cautious driver, and the normal driver which is the most preferred. We have all seen
it, you are driving down the road and then out of nowhere a car comes flying past you in the other
lane. That is a prime example of what we consider a carefree and reckless driver. You see, a carefree
and reckless driver is one that cares about nobody but themselves when driving. They are the people
that you see going fifteen to twenty miles per hour over the speed limit with no signs of slowing
down. Sure they might have an excuse of I was late for work or a family emergency came up but in
general you are still a reckless driver and carefree. I think we all can relate when I say that we see
enough of these drivers on the daily. But what other traits do carefree and reckless drivers exhibit?
One big trait is that they are always switching back and forth between lanes of traffic. They become so
impatient that they feel the need to constantly switch back and forth between lanes so they are one car

known as the existential humanist approach developed by Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow. Like
most psychologists of his era; Carl Rogers trained psychodynamically (Prochaska Norcross 2010).
However, he didn t stay psychodynamic for long. Rogers disagreed with many of Freud s
presumptions about therapy and more fundamentally, about people. Along with Abraham Maslow,
Rogers pioneered the humanistic movement in psychology. The humanistic approach assumes that

The higher the saboteur scores on the power meter the greater the chance that the project will fail, but
no matter what the case a good project manager finds a way to get things done.
Does project leadership play a role? Leadership also plays a part in managing successful projects. On
the rare occasions when projects run relatively smoothly, the project manager need only manage the
process. However, projects seldom proceed down the WBS path as originally planned. Project
managers often have to deviate from what was originally planned and introduce changes in the project
scope and schedule to respond to unforeseen threats or opportunities. These changes often require the
project manager to do more than simply manage, they require him to step in and lead. That leadership
usually involves recognizing and articulating the need to significantly alter the direction and operation
of the project. It also means aligning people to the new direction and motivating them to work
together to overcome hurdles produced by the change in order to realize the new objectives.
Does this role change under duress? In a situation like the scenario we are discussing, leadership
skills, combined with a more assertive use of the standard interpersonal project management skills,
would need to be put into play. There is an immediate need to gain the trust of the project team
members. They need to feel that they can trust that the new

Bob was said to be very strict with the trio, which consisted of Rita, her cousin Constantine Dream
Walker, and Marlene Precious Gifford, to the point where the group came to dislike him (White).
Much to Rita s dismay however, Bunny pointed out that Bob was in love with her. Soon after, Bob
started sending her love notes. Rita was confused by this display of emotion since Bob held a strict air
in public. She approached him with her confusion, and the result was a two hour long discussion that
brought the two closer together.
During one discussion, Bob explained his night visions of duppies, or ghosts, to Rita.
Because the girl vehemently disbelieved him, he invited her to stay with him in his bed to witness the
apparitions. Rita accepted the offer, and did indeed witness the specters Bob had so accurately
described, but a sexual relationship was not consummated at that time (White).
By then, Rita was still living with her stern aunt. But that didn t prevent Rita from offering her lover a
place to stay. Bob accepted, though he was forced to sneak in after her cousin went to sleep and leave
before anyone awoke. Furthermore, Bob had to share a bed with Rita and her cousin, and be careful
not to awake Sharon, whose crib remained close to the bed. Eventually, Viola discovered the nocturnal
happenings between the lovers. Thinking that Bob could act as Sharon s father figure, Viola invited
Bob to live with Rita in a shed behind the house.

The Beginning Of Leadership, Whatarangi Winiata
In the 1880s, the destruction of the Treaty of Waitangi caused a lot of commotion among the Māori
people, especially the leaders. In the beginning of the 1900s, Māori leadership appeared to be
insignificant, but soon a new generation emerged and began to turn things around. These new leaders

contemporary leadership, and leadership attributes to prove how the concepts of whakapapa
(genealogy), iwi (tribe, people), arikitanga (chieftainship), and mana (authority, power) are embedded

everyone knows their immediate ancestors and pass this knowledge on. The power that is passed
down through whakapapa is called mana tūpuna. It is passed down by chiefly lineage from generation

We all make mistakes that we later regret, but that s life. We need to focus more on just accepting to
live with it.
Living with regret. Ambush Literary Analysis
Tim O Brien, a fighter affected by the trauma Vietnam War held, divulge on his participations when
his daughter asks herself if he has ever taken a man s life. At nine years old, nearly 20 years after the
Vietnam War is over, Kathleen asks her father a question. Has he ever killed someone, she wants to
know. O Brien decides to tell her that he has not killed a man. It felt like the right thing to do ; he
thinks when she is a little older she will understand better. Maybe then O Brien will tell her about the
slender young man who still consumes him, whom he still ponders about when reading the newspaper.
Mr. O Brien briefly relives the night in My Khe. He had been on lookout after midnight. He saw the

O Brien acknowledges that he has lied to his own daughter. Again he is drawing attention to the nature
of the story as a story that he decided to tell, rather than something that is essentially true. This is
meant to put the reader on his or her guide against false sources, and unreliable guides to the war. But
O Brien also disputes the notion that there is a stable truth to be found. He views a story s content as
changeable. He writes:
It was a difficult moment, but I did what seemed right, which was to say, Of course not, and then to
take her onto my lap and hold her for a while. Someday, I hope she ll ask again. (129) The difficulty
for O Brien is double pronged. He must decide whether or not to lie to his daughter. He must also
relive and come face to face to a deeply traumatic event. The title is an ironic double entendre. O
Brien ambushed the soldier with a grenade and Kathleen ambushed her father with a wrenching
question. O Brien killed the soldier, and Kathleen threw her father into moral

How Does Ethanol Affect The Rate Of Respiration In Yeast
The effect of ethanol on yeast respiration
Purpose: To use the phenolphthalein indicator to indicate the respiratory activity of yeast cells
Hypothesis: The greater the concentration of ethanol, the slower the rate of respiration will be.
Conclusion
We conducted this experiment in order to observe the rate of respiration in yeast cells. When yeast
cells metabolize glucose, they produce carbon dioxide and that can change the color of water. This
connects to the purpose of this lab because respiration produces CO2 which is acidic and lowers the
solution s pH. Rate of respiration cannot be measured directly; however, it produces CO2 which is
acidic and will lower the pH of a solution, meaning that if the solution s pH drops sufficiently, the
color (huge indicator) would change. In this scenario, phenolphthalein, which changes color from pink
to colorless at pH 8.2, was used. The time taken for decolorization corresponds to rate of CO2
production which is inversely proportionate to rate of respiration (shorter time = greater rate).
Prior to this lab, we were aware of the fact that most of the time, the ... Show more content on

Even though a water bath is still better at maintaining temperature than other methods (eg: heating the
glassware over flame, etc), they can also have fluctuating temperatures which in this case, would be
very significant since temperature has a huge effect on the rate of respiration. There is no knowing
whether there were temperature changes from the time we put the samples into the water bath and the
time we took them out, meaning that the rate of respiration may have been affected in other ways
instead of just the amount of ethanol present in the sample. In order to prevent this limitation, we
could consistently monitor the temperature by adding a thermometer in the water so that we can be
aware of any changes if they

Explain Why The United Kingdom Is A Developed Country
The United Kingdom is a developed country which is located in the most western part of Europe on an
island to the east of Ireland. This country is developed because of it s economy, population, and
amount of modern conveniences.
Based upon the economy of Great Britain, it is very well developed. It is in the tertiary sector of the
economic structure which means that more services are given out than goods, the higher in the
structure the more developed a country is. In the United Kingdom, 83.5 percent of everything that is
output into the economy are services and only 16.5 percent of the economy is either industry of
agriculture which again, proves the fact that the United Kingdom s economy is a part of the third
tertiary. To compare with a well known developed country, the United States, the economy is 79.1
percent services which shows the fact that the economies are not at all far off from each other.
The population in the United Kingdom also provides evidence that it is a developed country, the infant
mortality rate is about 4.3 deaths/100,000 live births which translates to about .000043 deaths which is
a rather low infant mortality rate. The lower the rate, the more developed the country s medical care is.

Great Britain is the world s 17th most connected country in the world with an astonishing 83,100,000
telephones for about 64,100,000 people which is about 1.29 telephones per person. Another example
are the cars, there are about 0.519 cars per person in the United Kingdom, which is the 34th highest
amount of motor vehicles in the world. The amount of modern conveniences per person shows how
developed a country is because they are able the more advanced the technology, the more developed
the civilization so the more modern conveniences you have the more advanced and or developed a

Holden Caulfield Psychoanalytic Analysis
Rab Sinay Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP English, Period 1 2 March 2017 Hidden Motive J. D. Salinger s novel
The Catcher in the Rye introduces Holden Caulfield, the adolescent protagonist who has struggled
through a complete disconnect with the outside world after suffering through traumatizing events as a
child. Through a psychoanalytic lens, Holden can be scrutinized by his actions, dialogue, and
thoughts. He is described as a judgemental individual who does not conform to social norms. As it is
revealed that the troubled youth has been kicked out of his third school, and what Holden went
through earlier in his life, the reader becomes aware of Holden s emotional and psychological
instability. This is confirmed throughout the book as Holden narrates his own experiences from the
past, as well as the present, which is basically a three day span. Early on, Salinger starts with Holden
stating, I ll just just tell you about this madman stuff that happened to me around last Christmas just
before I got pretty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hall claims that the environment also plays a major role in the wide and dramatic psychological
variations that exist among individuals (106). However, while Holden has definitely been affected by
the tragedy, other events took place as a result of the passing of Holden s brother, which also
contributed to the decay of Holden s state of mind, and eventually led to a chain reaction. For
example, soon after Allie died, Holden s parents practically ignored him and just sent him off to
schools. This definitely was detrimental to Holden s success as his parents neglected him, which likely
corresponds with Holden having struggled and failed in three schools already. Salinger writes, they
kicked me out... I was flunking four subjects and not applying myself and all (4). Ultimately, these
events led to several psychological and behavioral issues, such as depression, emotional instability,

Intel Antitrust
Intel Corporation is a technology company out of Santa Clara, California and is one of the world s
highest valued chipmakers and very well known microprocessors. A micro processer is to a computer
what a brain is to a person. They were investigated for antitrust behavior after there were reports that
that Intel was paying Dell large sums of money so that they would force customers not use a specific
original equipment manufacturer Advanced Micro Device on their computers. Intel of course denies
any and all reports of wrongdoing and even justified their actions to be beneficial to consumers. This
was not the first or last time the multi billion dollar company was told they are not playing a business
fair monopoly. Even the Federal trade commission has accused Intel of abusing their market power.
According to Leveue, The FTC accuses the chip maker of numerous anticompetitive unfair practices,
including various payments to its customers in the form of lump sums or discounts . ... Show more

Securities and Exchange Commission antitrust allegations to in the past. This article explains
somewhat how Intel was buying out there competitors like a monopoly. If there is only 1 company
called Intel that sells these advanced microchips then they could set their price at what they wanted.
This is bad for customers at that time because there was less market of options to choose from and as
the price of AMD s went up the other industries were sinking and could not compete with lower prices
that Intel offered. Consumers could have benefited through Intel s monopoly at that time by enjoying

  • 2. Significance Of Dracula To what extent was Bram Stoker s Dracula based on historical figures? In 1897, Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, the story of a monstrous Transylvanian count who terrorized local villages and fed on the peasants who lived in them. The book is today widely recognized as a historically significant literary work, and its importance has caused many scholars to debate whether Bram Stoker s main character Dracula was actually inspired by real historical figures. Many scholars believe that Vlad the 3rd or Vlad the Impaler was the direct inspiration for Count Dracula. Vlad the 3rd was the son of King Vlad the 2nd Dracul and as Prince, was the heir to the Wallachian throne. He was born during the year of 1431 and died during a battle in December 1476. • 3. Journey into Night by Eugene O Neill and Macbeth by... Supposed someone asked you to write a story about death. Would you fill it with strange and horrifying sounds and sights; gruesome acts and frightening ghosts like Macbeth? Or would you write about a seemingly normal family from the outside, where the unknown hides from behind common decisions and objects. First and foremost, Long Day Journey into night by Eugene O neill and Macbeth by Shakespeare share a common theme with each other. The characters in both of these dramas lack communication with one another. Let s examine Macbeth first. The playwright Macbeth begins with Macbeth, who is thane of Glamis and Banquo being introduced to the Weird Sisters after a victorious battle. The Weird Sisters or otherwise known as the Three Witches. The Three Witches convince Macbeth that he had a great destiny awaiting him. All hail, Macbeth! that shalt be king hereafter. (Shakespeare, Act 1, scene 3, line 53) Once Lady Macbeth hears of what the Witches have foretold her scheme starts brewing. She has one goal in mind and will do everything in her power to influence Macbeth to carry out her plans.Macbeth believes what these witches have prophesied so much that he is willing to get it at any cost. Lady Macbeth feels that Macbeth isn t man enough to carry out the deed of killing Duncan. When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man. (Act I,scene VII, line 55 57) She uses Macbeth s weakness to convince him that he ... • 4. Japan s Foreign Policy During The End Of The Twentieth... In the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan was a strong militaristic country that held a strong power and influence in the Asia Pacific region. It was an expansionist and strong imperialist nation similar as the Western colonizers such as England, the Dutch, Russia, France and Germany. The Japanese empire extended from the Dutch East Indies in the south to Manchuria in the north before the country surrendered on September 1945 to the Allies. The Allied Power led by General Douglas MacArthur had occupied Japan for several years before it was fully liberated in 1952. After the occupation, Japan s foreign policy was given back to its government. The country took the opportunity given to repair its relations with its neighbours. Some historians claimed that the reconciliation period was successful through several treaties agreed upon the East Asian countries in the 1960s. However, it was different side of the story when the issue was asked to the Japanese former colonies. A lot of its people will claim that they could not forget what the Empire of Japan had done to them. Hence, it would be wise to ask how does Japan war history would affect its relations with its East Asia neighbours? This paper will explain the two most significant impacts that the aggressive Empire of Japan history affects its connections with its neighbours. While most critics and fans agree that the first three seasons were the shows best, the storylines in the later seasons have still been able to add new and progressive ideas into the forefront of the show. The biggest change in storyline is when they introduced their first LGBTQ identifying main character, Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the addition of Callie s character was extremely monumental. Using the steam engine, Robert Fulton and George Stephenson made different modes of transportation for people and cargo. Fulton created the first steam powered boat that took people and cargo along the Hudson river. Similarly, Stephenson constructed a locomotive that carried large hauls over large distances. Health management is a complex social goal, and a major initiative in Canada, which is heavily relied on the public sector. One of the major issues the health care system is currently facing the over crowded emergency departments and extremely long waiting times. . In this paper I will discuss the issue of overcrowded hospitals as a results of the rising population of the elderly. Many of our hospitals are over crowned, there are long waiting time, and the elderly are not provided with sufficient care. Overcrowding will place an increasing amount of burden on the hospital by delaying testing and diagnosis times, creating a shortage of nurses and doctors, and it may also have a negative impact on the financial state of the hospital. Why is it an Issue? According to statistic Canada their will be a dramatic change in the senior population in Canada, this mean that the entire baby boomer generation will become part of Canada s senior population which is those aged above 65. In the past century, sports have wrestled with these questions on how to qualify and quantify gender. By addressing these issues, whether intentional or not, the sports world has certainly broken down some barriers to transgender equality. Nevertheless, there is certainly more work to do to further progress transgender equality in sports and arguably it is the moral obligation of the sports world to pursue such equality. The argument centers around the idea that female transgender athletes may have unfair advantages over their competitors due to their strength or height that is a byproduct of testosterone (Time, 2015). This proposal has multiple flaws. First, there is the misconception that female transsexual athletes keep the physical strength of their previously male body, but this claim is not supported by medical facts (Krane Barak, 2012). Specifically, studies have shown that after one year a transitioning transsexuals testosterone levels drop to be consistent with those of a cisgender female athlete, their muscle mass decreases, their body fat redistributed to match their identity, [and] bone density is decreased (Krane Barak, 2012). Consequently, researchers have concluded that female transsexuals can compete in sports without having an inherent physiological advantage (Krane Barak, 2012). Now, some may argue that based on this evidence only transsexual athletes should be allowed to compete, which brings up my second point: the pervasive idea that male athletes are inherently superior to female athletes. • 19. The Characterism Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas... In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is one character who exemplifies the realism of human nature more than any other, and that is Godfrey Cass. He is painted such a way that the very fabric of his characterization begs for analysis. Eliot analyzes human nature through Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions subsequently make Silas Marner a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him both a victim and a villain. Godfrey is put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man (Eliot, 23). Immediately contrasted against his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his drink the more when other people went dry, Godfrey is painted a victim of circumstance and bad familial relations. The condition of Godfrey Cass is one among men who had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human kindness was never driven into brutality (Eliot, 29). Godfrey s own circumstances are not his fault, rather he is better for them because he has not allowed them to change his nature. According to Sernau (2012), what is harder to estimate are the effects that this growth and change will have on our planet. When looking at overpopulation and the effects on the environment, we look at the overpopulation in cities and countries across the nation. Many economic problems in our society place an impact on our environment from overpopulation come from the overuse of resources, lack of resources, and pollution. There are many solutions to this problem but the common factor is humans have to put controls in place and take care of the environment, so the required resources do not become extinct. Human population growth is a major contributor to global warming, given that more people means more resources. When reading an article on population growth on climate change (Scientific American, 2017), it reports that many population experts believe the answer lies in improving the health of women and children in developing nations. By reducing poverty and infant mortality, increasing women s and girls access to basic human rights (health care, education, economic opportunity), educating women about birth control options and ensuring access to voluntary family planning services, women will choose to limit family size (Scientific American, 2017). We spent the majority of the time talking about the main character Bilbo. During the beginning of the book, Bilbo was a very quiet and reserved hobbit. When there was a chance of going on an adventure, though, Bilbo ran out the front door without a second though. We ended up discussing why he did this. People said that Bilbo ran out for the adventure for a number of reasons, however I thought that he did it on pure impulse, and I made sure to make that opinion know. I think that, because of the opinions of the other hobbits, Bilbo was convincing himself that adventures were foolhardy and not worth the effort. However, Bilbo actually loves adventures, ... She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and spent most of her childhood outside hiking and camping. The love for the outdoors was inspired by her parents; a lawyer and a school principal. According to Lewis (2014), the parents were avid and skilled gardeners who frequently talked to her about plants and nature. The family also vacationed on the Massachusetts island; she has memories of walking along the Gaylord Cliffs, where Native Americans used to live. This created a nature and culture connection in her mind that has guided her till now (Lewis, 2014). She is a graduate from Harvard University with a degree in landscape architecture in 1957 and was the only woman student in the Graduate School of Design s landscape Program then. Her personal growth is attributed to professors such as Sigfried Gideon, the author of Space, Time and Architecture. During her time at Harvard, Johnson picked sentiment in environmentally sensitive landscape design and became acquainted with collaborative design processes (Sickle, 2008). These two concepts formed a major part of her design approach and ethic. One of her first employments after graduation was with the Architects Collaborative in 1958. She only worked there for one year though after which she started her own practice, the Carol R. Johnson Associates, Inc. A lot of the encouragement and business came mainly from her old ... Many of the other causes of war contributed to the rise of nationalism, including imperialism, militarism, and the industrial revolution. Not taking advantage of the opportunity, Hamlet once again falls short in fulfilling his vow to his father. Although, Hamlet is given a perfect opportunity to kill Claudius, his tendency to constantly reflect on the situation and whether he should kill Claudius or not is often delayed. Hamlet s constant contemplation becomes his major flaw, delaying him from killing Claudius. This flaw is yet another aspect of Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero. Another element of the Aristotelian tragic hero is the reversal of fate, rather a change for the worse. Hamlet s continuous delay in killing Claudius determines an alternative course for his fate. He has the potential to claim the throne, restore order in the kingdom, and keep his family in power of the nation. However, these outcomes are only possible if Hamlet can execute his plan with swiftness. Thus, Hamlet reverses his fate by procrastinating in avenging his father s death. How Does Ethanol Affect The Rate Of Respiration In Yeast The effect of ethanol on yeast respiration Purpose: To use the phenolphthalein indicator to indicate the respiratory activity of yeast cells Hypothesis: The greater the concentration of ethanol, the slower the rate of respiration will be. Conclusion We conducted this experiment in order to observe the rate of respiration in yeast cells. When yeast cells metabolize glucose, they produce carbon dioxide and that can change the color of water. This connects to the purpose of this lab because respiration produces CO2 which is acidic and lowers the solution s pH. Rate of respiration cannot be measured directly; however, it produces CO2 which is acidic and will lower the pH of a solution, meaning that if the solution s pH drops sufficiently, the color (huge indicator) would change. In this scenario, phenolphthalein, which changes color from pink to colorless at pH 8.2, was used. The time taken for decolorization corresponds to rate of CO2 production which is inversely proportionate to rate of respiration (shorter time = greater rate). In order to prevent this limitation, we could consistently monitor the temperature by adding a thermometer in the water so that we can be aware of any changes if they ... This definitely was detrimental to Holden s success as his parents neglected him, which likely corresponds with Holden having struggled and failed in three schools already.
