Object Relations Theory Is A Psychodynamic Theory
Object Relations Theory Object relations theory is a psychodynamic theory that observes our
capability to form long lasting attachments, and is based on our early experiences of disconnection
from and connections with out primary caregivers. We internalize our initial relationship examples,
which means that our first relationships make lasting impressions on us, determining how we
approach future relationships. Also, object relations theory studies how people form various attitudes
towards others and how those attitudes affect their view of themselves as well as social relationships.
There is a central notion of object relation s theory, which is that all people naturally search for
relationships with others, what this theory looks at is how well an individual can form the
interpersonal relationship and what, if any, deficiencies in social functioning may have occurred. For
social workers, this theory is helpful in seeing an individual in the framework of the relationship rather
than an individual being. According to object relations theory, the ultimate situation is to be raised by
caregivers who in turn help us to progressively and appropriately move away from their physical and
emotional direct care while they continue to convey their availability for support (Hutchison, 2013).
These early associations are a major determinant of our personalities and the quality of our
interpersonal performance (Hutchison, 2013; Dorfman, Meyer, Morgan, 1998). Essentially, an

David Schleis Tax Rates
Understanding the Many Different Tax Rates Each Year
David Schleis, and his fellow Tax Preparers at DS Financial Advisors, are waiting to explain the
current and past tax rates to you. These rates, which are applicable to every tax payer, can be
confusing for some. Seeking the help of a qualified accountant and finding a tax professional who is
knowledgeable is the key to prompt and efficient income tax return filing.
What are Tax Rates?
The federal government and the Internal Revenue Service dictates that each dollar of certain income
you earn is subject to taxation. The percentage taxed on that dollar is determined by your individual
tax rate. Tax rates are different for everyone, and will change yearly, depending upon your total annual
income and filing status. For tax payers who are unsure of their unique tax liability, it is important to
find a tax professional for tax rates.
Tax Brackets Explained
There is much confusion between the terms tax rate and tax bracket. Many believe that they are
interchangeable, though they are not. Your tax bracket is determined based upon a formulaic
spreadsheet that uses your filing status and total annual income. When this information is added to the
tax bracket system, the resulting number is the tax rate that some or all of your income will be taxed
at. Using the tax bracket guidelines, you can figure out your own individual tax rate. Keep in mind
that the tax rates change each year. If you are filing

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

Providing a place of employment has lead to numerous benefits for employers and employees. When
having a diversity of people working for a company, different types of personalities intermingle with
each other on a day to day basis. Even though having a diverse group of people coexist in the
workforce can serve a huge benefit to the company, it can also lead to problems amongst coworkers.
In order to make sure everyone is treated fairly, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
(EEOC) was created to enforce federal regulations for equality in the workforce (smallbusiness). The
EEOC pursues complaints about hiring or firing based off of certain factors such as, race, religion,
age, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to, the supervisor may have not been fully aware of what is and what is not appropriate in
the workforce. To avoid all of this confusion, during the on boarding process, all new employees
should sit in on either a lecture or video informing them what is and what is not sexual harassment and
how to handle the situation. A recommendation for the owner with regards to preparing a response to
the EEOC is to inform them that mediation will be taken place first. To prevent any court fees and
legal fees see if the situation can be resolved verbally as well educating all employees on their rights.
Even if the employee is an immigrant with a work visa, the law protecting US citizens still applies to
them.

Flowers For Algernon Analysis
Flowers for Algernon Essay: Was Charlie Gordon better off before or after surgery?
Do you choose intelligence over happiness? I don t know what s worse, to not know what you are and
be happy, or to become what you ve always wanted to be, and feel alone. Writes Charlie Gordon
(Keyes 298). In Flowers for Algernon, Charlie Gordon is a young man who struggles with mental
retardation. His dream is to be intelligent so he can be like the rest of the world. Charlie goes through
an experimental surgery that increases his intelligence. But the consequence of his tripled intelligence
is that Charlie Gordon is not as happy as he was before surgery. Before his surgery, Charlie was
oblivious to his friends being mean to him. After, he realized what kind of people they really were.
Before surgery, Charlie s ignorance hid him from the true, harsh reality. After surgery, Charlie s
ignorance disappeared, making him realize how fake and disappointing the world can be. Before
Charlie s surgery, he was happy, but felt oblivious to the world surrounding him. After surgery, he was
pleased with his intelligence when it reached its peak. But when Charlie s intelligence began to
deteriorate, he became upset that he couldn t think the way he could when he was smart. From the
reasons stated above, In Flowers for Algernon, Charlie Gordon is better off before surgery.
Charlie Gordon is better off before surgery because he wasn t aware of his friends being mean. After
surgery, he realized that

Flaws In Othello Essay
Research Essay: Othello by William Shakespeare
Was Othello a victim of circumstances or his own flaws? by Alijaeh Go 9B4 First performed in the
court of King James I on November 1 1604, The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice was written
by William Shakespeare between 1601 and 1604. The basic premise of the play is the protagonist s
(Othello s) marriage with the daughter of the senator, Desdemona: Their marriage, unfortunately, is
sabotaged by the envious Iago, insinuating to Othello of his wife s alleged infidelity. The play reaches
its climactic peak when the general s jealousy vows to exact bloody revenge on the perpetrators
(Desdemona and Cassio) that caused him to be a cuckold . All of Iago s schemes come into fruition
when the noble Moor smothers his wife to death: The play spirals further downhill with most of the
cast either dead, severely injured or in Iago s case, on the process to be tortured. Based from this
summary, a mere observer would conclude that the reason for Othello s downfall is his hamartia his
incessant jealousy that caused for his rash actions. However, numerous opinions and facts beg to

they are pure hearted, they will sin as it is human nature. Only through Jesus can a person be released
from his worldly desires (the Seven Deadly Sins ) Basically, it is not Othello s tragic flaw (which
everybody should have in accordance to the Christian doctrine) that cause his downfall, but it is the

Why Jane Goodall Should Be Considered A Hero
Jane Goodall
Imagine being tested on by scientists with unsafe products, or being abused just because you are
another species. Jane Goodall stands against that. She believes that animals should have an equally
happy life as humans, and that keeping a clean environment is a way to do it. Goodall has proven
many people wrong through her research and discoveries. This is why Jane Goodall should be
considered a hero, because of the work she has done that has positively affected the environment,
animals lives, and what we have learned. Even though people had doubted her, Jane discovered new
things on chimps, proving many people wrong. When She was a kid, her father gave her a toy

A Civil Action Term Paper
A Civil Action Paper
In class, we have learned many important topics in the legal, ethical, and regulatory environment of
business. However in the classroom setting, we have examined each of these topics individually.
Jonathan Harr s A Civil Action allows us to see how the topics learned relate to one another in the
context of a real world setting. His book provides an engaging read about the legal practice action
while connecting the topics of the relationship between law, business, and ethics; the court system and
litigation; alternative dispute resolution; and the nature of the corporation. A Civil Action
complements the material learned in class, and it helps to create an overall cohesiveness between the

A court can exercise personal jurisdiction over any person or business that abides within a certain
geographic area, or any out of area defendant as long as there was minimum contact with the area to
justify jurisdiction. Each state has its own long arm statue in place that defines minimum contact.
Personal jurisdiction for federal courts is broad, extending to any persons within the United States,
whereas personal jurisdiction for state courts is much more narrow. Different courts have the authority
to hear different kinds of cases. Subject matter jurisdiction for federal courts is relatively narrow.
There must be an issue of federal law, or there must be a dispute between citizens or businesses of
different states and the amount in question must at least $75,000. States have a much more broad
subject matter jurisdiction; they can hear pretty much any matter, whether involving state or federal
law. Jurisdiction played a key role in the outcome of the lawsuit in A Civil Action. The plaintiff s
lawyer, Jan Schlichtmann, filed the original complaint against W. R. Grace and Beatrice Foods in state
court. Schlichtmann, a personal injury attorney, spends most of his time there; personal injury is heard
much less frequently in federal court. William Cheeseman, the attorney for W. R. Grace, almost
immediately removes the case to federal court since W. R. Grace s headquarters is in New York and
the amount in question is clearly over

Holden! I turned around. Jane Gallagher was running towards me. She looked great as hell. Oh,
Holden! It s been so long! I ve missed you!
I gave her a kiss on the cheek. I probably would ve done more, but I was too jittery. When d Phoebe

Well, I heard the poilce here early on this morning. Holden, you should really talk to your mother. You

worldwide atmosphere begins to quickly change, ocean level ascent, and more to come. The interest

business sector disappointment. The supply has went up as interest has gone down because of the
value change in gas. This would bring about business sector disappointment with a colossal generation

Plano Social Environment
In the city of Plano in Texas, hydrogen sulfide has been released by the inadequate sewer lines causing
terrible smells throughout the city. The constant release of the smell can lead to serious health
problems for the citizens. This article relates to Week 3 Lecture about Physical and Social
Environment, which describes the terrible smell, which is hydrogen sulfide has an indoor and outdoor
pollutant. As an indoor pollutant, the smell enters people s homes through their toilets. As an outdoor
pollutant, sewers lines were poorly designed leading to the release of hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen
sulfide as an indoor and outdoor pollutant is detrimental to people s health because people are exposed
to the gas by breathing in the air from all areas. The article relates to the community level of the
ecological model. In the article, the city installed carbon air filters and sealed the manhole covers as
they continue to monitor the levels of sulfide in the air. This shows that the Plano officials are
concerned about the effects of the hydrogen sulfide and the long term effects it could have on people.

Challenging Gender Expectations On Pat Barker s...
Challenging Gender Expectations in Pat Barker s Regeneration
Siegfried Sassoon and Sarah Lumb in Pat Barker s Regeneration (1991) exemplify the bravery of
those fighting against gender norms during the First World War. Sassoon proves his bravery by writing
to protest the war to his military superiors and the broader public. Sarah courageously goes against her
society s and her mother s gender norms by taking on a more masculine role. Sarah is sexually
independent in her relationship with Billy Prior by behaving as an equal as opposed to playing the
passive feminine role. She does not wait for her mother s approval of Prior, and is eager to enjoy the
independence women s war work offers. Sarah worked at a munition factory being paid for manual
labor. She is not intimidated by those trying to control her, but instead courageously takes on a more
masculine role. Sassoon also challenges gender expectations by writing about the emotional traumas
of war, as well as by discreetly exploring his own sexuality, opening himself up to criticisms of
feminine weakness. Though his unconventional acts led to accusations of mental illness, Sassoon
courageously refuses the opportunity to retain his reputation for a more conventional masculinity and
openly demonstrates his weakness and emotions to the public. Though Sassoon and Sarah are
seemingly safe at home and even oppose the war, they both demonstrate a new kind of bravery by
resisting gender norms in the face of social opposition in

The United Farm Workers Association Improve The Conditions...
To what degree did the United Farm Workers Association improve the conditions of farmworkers in
California.
Introduction:
In 1910 mexicans fled from Mexico to work in agriculture in America, they labored in inhumane
conditions and the people they worked for ignored state laws on working conditions (Tavaana). This is
how the farm workers would work before the United Farm Workers Union came along. They didn t
have the rights they deserved, they were treated however the growers would like to treat them because
they would go around the law and do what they wanted. Farm workers didn t have unions and the
rights that they do now back in 1910. Research has been done on this topic on how them migrating
started, on how they were treated, and how it has gotten better over the years. This topic is important
because it discusses some of the history of Mexican immigrants. It also demonstrates some challenges
they went through when they came to the United States to find work. My study of the topic is
important because it will give some background information on how the farm workers were brought
and how they were treated. After I will bring in Cesar Chavez and his contributions to helping the
farm workers. Lastly I will be talking about his negative contribution which isn t talked about that
often and comparing it with the positive. My investigation fits into broader questions in the subject
because it is taking two different points of views and comparing them to each other. I choose

The Chemical Compounds Of Synthetic Fertilizer
Once soil is intoxicated, the chemical compounds in synthetic fertilizer create a harmful environment
for microbial life and are later dispersed to surrounding areas through the process of hydrology. In
naturally fertile soil, microbial life is diverse and abundant. In fact, as soil microbiologist David Zuber
has stated in his Soil Microbiology FAQ article, there can be hundreds of millions to billions of
microbes in a single gram (about the size of a navy bean in volume) of soil. These microbes range
from bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, cyanobacteria, protozoa, and microarthropods, all of which play
very specialized roles in maintaining the integrity of soil. Innately, microbes ward off pathogens,
provide root protection, and maintain oxygen and moisture levels. (Hermary). For example, microbes
consume a naturally abundant and potent form of nitrogen (NH4+), along with other compounds, and
excrete preferred forms of nitrogen (NO2 N and NO3 N). This process, fixation, allow microbes to
maintain a fixed levels of essential chemicals. Likewise, through the process of denitrification,
anaerobic bacteria provides oxygen to soil by removing excess nitrate (NO3 N), while other microbes
aerate and disperse the supplied oxygen. While microbes execute an assortment of other tasks, it is
apparent that these organisms create a balance. However, with the introduction of synthetic fertilizer,
this natural balance is ravaged. As a result of repetitive application of synthetic

Sparta Swot Analysis
Most societies that focus on one specific thing is pretty much setting themselves up to crumble to the
ground. One example is Sparta, Sparta lacked many many things to be a successful society, which is
why they only lasted 300 years. Sparta lacked education, they abused their children, and took them
away to harsh army training at such a young age. Sparta banned all foreign education from their city
state, and they only taught reading and writing for purely practical reasons, they also never let in any
foreign teachers into Sparta to teach. They abused their children too, every time a child was caught
stealing food, which they encouraged and said it was ok, they would whip them almost to the point of
death. The strengths in Sparta never even had a chance at outweighing the weaknesses for those
reasons. To start off, Spartans were never taught formal education, Sparta focused on their military
almost all the time, they were taught practical reading and writing, and were never allowed foreign
teachers and were never allowed to travel to other places. It says in Document D that all other forms
of education were banned from the country . They felt that if they allowed other people from other

wrong and kids starve because of the harsh conditions in the agoge system of Sparta, also there is a

Religion Reflection Paper
Religion is practiced worldwide in many different forms. My family and I have been through a
religious journey throughout my lifetime. When I was younger, I would attend a Mennonite church
with my grandmother and my parents would come mostly for holidays. They were not very much of
the church going type until I was older. My dad did not see it was important for us to attend church
until his parents returned home from missionary work in Guadalajara, Mexico when my grandmother
was diagnosed with cancer. I was in third grade when they returned home and we did not start
attending regularly until a few years after. We still lived in a Christian home but as I have grown up,
looking back, I see that it was not much of a Christian home. We only prayed on holidays before we
would eat our meal and that was when we were surrounded by my grandparents of either side.
Eventually we started attending church regularly at a United Methodist church up the road from our
house. I still do not believe we are that dedicated to the church and to God, as we only pray before we
eat on Sundays and holidays as well. We do not speak much of God or ways we could work on being
better Christians, we still go about the same ways of life we had before, except now on Sundays we
attend a sermon. After all of this, I am slightly torn on what I personally believe. I feel as though I am
lost in that part of my life. I hope in the next few years, I find what I truly believe. Religion is

Interventions are planned for all stages to promote detachment from deviant peers, build resilient
bonds, enhance skills, and develop greater social competence in the adolescent. Conduct disorder can
be tough to treat; being fair, being consistent, and being available are the greatest tool is working with
these adolescents.
Working individually with client
Working individually with client would include begin by assessing the client to identify all the
significant problems and developing a treatment plan to help the client with these maladaptive
behaviors. Next, identify strengths of the client, family, or support staff which to build effective
strategies with. Then, identify problems and plan interventions for them (coping strategies and tools).
Interventions will most likely be implemented for a long period of time. Treatment will include
supervision and monitoring as a component. Cognitive behavioral therapy will be utilized to help
modify progress over an extended period of time. Family members are an vital part of a successful
Treatment Team; refining their parenting skills through training can be advantageous to the client. The
family will need to assume some responsibilities for monitoring the client s behaviors. The vast
majority of youth with conduct disorder do not carry them into adult life and most adolescents are
responsive to treatment.

Social Problems Associated With Racial Discrimination
Introduction:
I: People from different backgrounds around the world are being targeted and discriminated by
individuals of other races solely because they are different racially and culturally.
Body Paragraphs:
II: Basic Information on the Issue
A: According to Encyclopedia Britannica, race is determined by physical and personality traits,
intellect, morality, and culture ( Racism ). Racial discrimination is discriminating someone based on
their race or religion ( Racism/Color Discrimination ) or prejudice against an individual or group of
people of a different race because of the belief that one s own race is superior ( Racism ).
B: Problems associated with racism range from social problems to financial problems. Social
problems include alcohol or drug use/abuse and emotional withdrawal. Some emotional problems
include depression, feeling isolated, feelings of guilt and blaming oneself. Body aches, headaches, and
stress problems are some physical problems ( Impacts and Consequences ). Racial discrimination can
also cause people to quit jobs or school, lose concentration, and have a negative impact on grades and
important records. Finally, people can also suffer financially, such as decreases in academic/job
opportunities, loss of jobs, incomes, and/or benefits ( Impacts and Consequences ). III: Impact of the

The Role of Interagency Communication in the Academic Achievement of Foster Youth
Farrah Mitchell
Ashford University
Chapter 1: Background Context Recent research has made clear that children in foster care represent
one of the most vulnerable populations in public education. Though there have been few national
studies studying the overall achievement of foster youth, various state and local investigations
invariably reveal a picture of personal struggle, over or under identified disabilities, developmental
delays, absenteeism, and chronic underperformance relative to peers who are not in foster care. In
Washington state, foster children scored 15 to 20 percentile points below their peers on standardized ...

Because of this mix of confusion, lack of effective cross agency communication, and incentives
brought about by a lack of viable alternate educational resources other than special education, studies
have found both underidentification and overidentification problems with foster youth and special
education services. Moreover, even those who are appropriately diagnosed often receive poorly
written individualized education plans (IEPs) that are often dropped or ignored when the student
moves to a different district (Vacca, 2008). One study found that in Oregon, although 39 percent of
foster youth had received IEPs, only 16 percent actually received services (White, Carrington, amp;
Freeman, as cited in Ayasse, 1995). Clearly, special education is a point of particular importance and
contention for students in foster care. Studies have quantified the negative impact on foster youth
through other means beyond academic performance and placement. Due to traumatic past experiences
with family, prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol, neglect, abuse, or a combination of these and

Pretty Little Liars Research Paper
The Division Between Art and Popularity in Television
The lines of traditional art have blurred over the years as new artistic movements have appeared and
transformed the notion of what is considered art. As these movements have revolutionized the art
world, popular culture has branched off from art, causing a shift; art is no longer a representation of
popular culture and visa versa. In contemporary society art doesn t exist to win any popularity
contests, it exists to please the viewer, and is often deemed art by highly acclaimed art critics who don
t speak from a popular culture standpoint. Art highly regarded by critics often goes against the grain
and makes a statement, while popular culture is dictated by what the general public likes, ... Show

When this idea is utilized in television, a large divide appears between shows that display artistic
elements and series that become the newest popular sensation. This phenomenon is apparent when
comparing the HBO show Girls, with the ever popular ABC Family drama Pretty Little Liars. Girls
presents a complex, carefully detailed plot line along with characters who refuse to abide by social
norms. Pretty Little Liars on the other hand follows a generic and predicable script, complete with plot
holes and lackluster characters devoid of diversity. The fact that Pretty Little Liars reigns more
popular than Girls proves that aesthetic appeal is not valued in today s cultural landscape, uncovering
the separation between art and popularity in television. Girls and Pretty Little Liars represent two
different ends of the artistic spectrum; Girls is widely considered to be art despite its lack of diversity,
whereas Pretty Little Liars is more popular yet is associated with low brow culture given

What Are The Positive And Negative Impact Of Immigration...
LESSON 15 Immigration and Urban Growth
Objectives:
Identify which countries most of the immigrants came from and why immigrants flocked to the United
States
Identify the positive and negative impact of immigrants on the United States
Identify the positive and negative traits of American Politics during this time period
Immigrants and America, the Melting Pot begins.
Between 1870 and 1920, about 20 million Europeans immigrated to the United States. Many of them
came from eastern and southern Europe, which had not provided large numbers of immigrants before.
Some, like Jews, fled religious persecution. Other immigrants came to the United States to escape
economic hardship. Many left Europe full of ideas for reform and political freedom denied to them in
the past.
About 200,000 Chinese immigrants came from 1851 to 1883. Many thousand immigrants came from
Japan as well. From 1880 to 1920, about 260,000 immigrants came from the Caribbean. Many
Mexicans immigrated to the United States as well. Many Mexicans became part of the country when
territory was added after the Mexican War. About a million immigrants came from 1910 to 1930 to
escape turmoil in Mexico.
Most immigrants traveled by steamship, riding in steerage, the cargo holds below the ship s waterline.
Conditions were cramped, with little light or air and were unclean. Immigrants often suffered from
disease. Immigrants who arrived in New York were processed at Ellis Island. The process, which took

Undisputed Letters Dbq
As stated there are many letters said to be written (ascribed) Paul, but were not. There are two major
categories: the undisputed letters of Paul and the disputed pseudonymous letters. Scholars look at the
style of the letter to determine if Paul wrote it. In order to decide whether the letter was written by
Paul or not you must look at history during the time of Paul s letters and compare letters ascribed to
Paul with letters written by others of the same time. According to our class lecture, The Jewish War
happened just as the letters of Paul were beginning to circulate and the gospels were being written
down. Therefore, an understanding of the Jewish war is essential to understanding the New Testament.

The author of Colossians has experienced the resurrection of Christ. How can this be since the
undisputed letters indicate believers have not experienced the resurrection of Christ. Colossians was
written after the resurrection of Christ, therefore Paul did not write it (Ehrman, 444). According to
Ehrman, even more scholars are convinced that Ephesians was not written by Paul just as Second
Thessalonians and Colossians were not written by Paul. The primary issue with Ephesians is the letter
is written to the Saints in Ephesus (Eph1:1). When reviewing the best Greek manuscripts of the letter
it appears that scribes added this later. The original was to the saints who are faithful. The change was
so that those in Ephesus would think the letter was written directly to them (Ehrman, 445). Undisputed
One key characteristic of Paul s letters was they were written to deal with different situations. On
example is the disputes at Corinth. If you look at the undisputed epistles, Paul is addressing issues in
those churches. Those issues are wide ranging. Some of the issues are theological issues and others of
practical problems encountered during that day and time in the church. Paul appears to write with an
urgent need to address each one of

The Ocean s Influence To The Development Of The Ocean
Bibliographic Information: Smithsonian. Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice,
oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started
bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or
preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be
the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift
was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the
concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is

The shift in whale size occurred during the beginning of the Ice Age and the increase in ice sheets may
have caused a change in the distribution of food. Before the ice sheets, food would have been evenly
distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the amount of food like krill
and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding mechanism of the baleen whale
would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have been able to utilize the dense
aggregations of prey in the water.

A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity
of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B)
through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists
observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change
and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost,
causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this
study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment.
Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment. Though it s not proven, the

John R Searle Can Computers Think Summary
In Can Computers Think?, John R. Searle argues that strong artificial intelligence is false and
therefore machines cannot think or exhibit understanding like a human mind. Strong AI claims that a
correctly written program running on a machine functions as a mind and there are essentially no
differences between the software exactly emulating the actions of the brain and the mental contents of
a human. Searle uses a thought experiment called the Chinese Room Argument to argue against strong
AI. Various objections, such as the Robot Reply, challenge Searle s argument by further testing the
potential of a machine to possess understanding, intentionality, and subjectivity. In this essay, I will
argue that Searle s argument against strong AI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will explain two objections to Searle but conclude that the Robot Reply is a stronger objection. First,
the System s Reply claims that the person in the Chinese Room does not implement the computer
software. Rather, the person is only part of the machinery and the system as a whole implements the
software. The System s Reply claims the larger system understands Chinese even if the person running
the program does not. I assert that the person running the program can internalize the larger system
and still cannot understand Chinese, that is, gain semantics from syntax. In comparison to the Systems
Reply, the Robot Reply adds the capacity for casual interaction with the world. The Robot Reply
concedes that Searle is correct that a computer trapped in a computer room could not understand the
meaning of the language whose symbols it is manipulating. However, the Robot reply further claims
that such a computer in a robot body, with the ability to move and interact with the world through
sensors, could attach meaning to symbols and actually understand the language. While the Robot
Reply is the strongest objection to the Chinese Room Argument, I oppose this objection to Searle s
argument because the robot system continues to follow a computational set of rules that are
established through its

A Byronic Hero Of Our Time By Mikhail Lermontov
Pechorin A Byronic Hero
A Hero of Our Time, written by Mikhail Lermontov, consists of 5 stories that reflect the life, the idea
and the personality of the main character named Pechorin. Pechorin is not a typical hero in romantic
literature perspective; instead, he is a great representation of a pathetic Byronic hero that more
commonly appears in the time of Lermontov.
Different from a traditional hero and as a typical Byronic hero, Pechorin is reflected to be self centered
and manipulative in many parts of the story. His selfishness is shown through his indifference to
others and through the despicable methods of getting the things he wants. Pechorin is sexually
appealing, and could won the love of many beauties easily. However, he never really cherished his
charming and tried to manipulate the girls in the way he wants. When he flirts with a girl, mostly it is
because he is temporarily enjoying their beauty and the pleasure he can get from them. When he really
falls in love with them, he still only knows to receiving the love from them and never really dedicates
anything for his loves. When he fell in love with Bela, he got her through a despicable trade of the
horse of Kazbich with Bela s brother. This trade made Bela lost her brother and father and deprived
her happiness for a long time. However, because of Pechorin s self serving and manipulative
personality, he failed to consider the consequence for his love and only enjoyed the feeling of

Turkeys In The Kitchen Analysis
Turkeys in the kitchen by Dave Barry, A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris. Both essays cover two very
different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep as the focus
point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist events that happens
throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right away you can tell that young
David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His essay starts out with his teacher
scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and he doesn t understand why he gets in
trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism
and David Sedaris on mental illness but David Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although
Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that
happens every single day, and A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad
childhood plagued by uncomfortable moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and
covers it up with humor. That is why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay
even though Turkeys in the Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood
exactly what he was trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and
left me slightly confused. Now David s essays takes place in 1967 in Raleigh, North Carolina
normally third graders are between the ages of eight and ten so the date is not exact. Young David is
being scolded by his teacher Miss Chestnut for getting up during class 28 times to lick the light
switch, pencil sharpener and among other things. She decides to send a note home with David to tell
his mother that she will be visiting to talk about his behavior. While this takes place, there is another
form of a power struggle going on inside a young David s head his OCD is whispering to him that he
needs to do abnormal things such as smack the heel of his shoe to his forehead. Now back in the mid
1960s OCD had yet to be categorized as a mental disorder normally the embarrassment when someone

The Axum Empire, Byzantine And Aztec Empires
In many societies, the elites or aristocrats are given the chance to have a more luxurious life than
everyone else. They are handed more political, economic and social power. Specifically in the Indian,
Byzantine and Aztec empires, elites were allowed to have almost complete control over the people of
the land. They are allowed to make, break and enforce rules to their discretion. The aristocrats were
given respect, land, food, and care far superior to anyone else in the region.
The Axum kingdom illustrated the potential of trade to boost economic development and support
political development. Axum was originally a small kingdom whose merchants traded from the port of
Adulis on the Red Sea. While Axumite merchants traded with Muslim merchants on a regular basis,
they were challenged by Muslim forces. However, they were able to maintain independence and
prosperity because of its large participation in trading routes of the Indian Ocean. The term caste
refers to a social class of hereditary and usually unchangeable status. When the Aryans first
implemented the caste system in India, they used the term varna, meaning color, to refer to major
social classes. There were five main varnas: brahmins (priests); kshatriyas (warriors and aristocrats);
vaishyas (cultivators, artisans, and merchants); shudras (landless peasants, and serfs); and
untouchables (people who performed unpleasant tasks such as handling dead bodies or butchering
animals). As society became more complex and

Symbols In The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho
Everything a person encounters in their life affects their view on the world. In The Alchemist by Paulo
Coelho, Santiago does not feel like he is fulfilling his life to its highest potential. In order to achieve
his full potential, he sells his sheep and takes off on a journey to fulfill his personal legend. The story
is not just about a boy trying to carry out his personal legend, it is about the symbolic aspects of life
and how everything in a person s life affects them. Fate and omens are main motifs in The Alchemist
by Paulo Coehlo that helped Santiago find this way through his journey and are shown by the
symbolic stones from the king, the desert he traveled through and the treasure that was found.
Urim and Thummim are magic stones that Melchizedek gives Santiago to take on his journey bring
him comfort as they answer his questions and relieve his doubts about fulfilling his quest. The small
stones he keeps in his pocket remind him of the King who bestowed them upon him, along with
stories emphasizing the importance of following one s dreams. Towards the beginning of Santiago s
journey, he goes to ask the stones a question and realizes that they are not in his pocket. He didn t
consider mending the hole the stones could fall through any time they wanted. He had learned that
there were certain things one shouldn t ask about, so as not to flee from one s own Personal Legend. I

Dendroctonus Ponderosae
In the pacific northwest, there exists an insect the size of an apple seed. It feeds on the phloem of
trees, leaving them mutilated, their bark eviscerated and leaking sawdust. Victims of choice include
lodgepoles, western white pines, and ponderosa, but any gymnosperm will do. For the mountain pine
beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae, the invasion means reproductive success. For the tree, it means slow
death.
Though the beetle chooses the victim, it is the fungus it carries, Grosmannia clavigera, that delivers
the fatal blow (Safranyik and Carroll 2006). Working in tandem with the insect, the fungus spreads
across the surface of the trunk, dismantling all defenses. So refined is this relationship that the beetles
store the fungus in specialized containers. Sap, which trees use to wash out offending beetles,
crystallizes, forming a pitch cap characteristic of infected trees. Cut off from nutrients, the host begins
to wither away. It can be a slow process, with some trees standing, in limbo, for up to a decade. ...

ponderosae looks much like other members of Coleoptera. Its eggs are deposited in the inner bark of
trees, incubating for an average of two weeks. It undergoes four stages of metamorphosis, meaning its
larval form dissolves into itself and, while still incased, begins to sprout wings, with the fully
developed adult emerging only to mate and feed. Hardened wing plates known as elytra help
distinguish adults from other insects, and an appetite for wood helps distinguish the 600 species of
bark beetle from other beetles. Unlike many tree invaders, however, which preferentially target the
weak and diseased, D. ponderosae increasingly besieges healthy

Dog Park Building
I firmly support the building of a public dog park in the residential area in the city of Muscatine, Iowa.
Apartment buildings have very little yard space, which leaves the only exercise alternative a daily
walk in the neighborhood. I have lived in cities that have ordinances with no dogs aloud off leash in
public areas, it makes exercising dogs properly very difficult. My dog used to go crazy when I couldn
t get her the proper exercise after being cooped up all day.
Exercise is very important to dog s mental and physical health. Being socialized around other dogs is
important for proper behavioral issues to avoid attacking a strange dog or a person. New York City
reports the use of off leash dog parks lowered the dog bite incidents from 40,000 to fewer than 4,000
per year. Those numbers show over 90% decrease in reported incidents, making safety an added bonus
for the neighborhood residents as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dogs loose in empty lots or city parks to exercise. Everyone in the community would benefit with

On the other hand, interpretative strategies refer to those activities that will help the students to
develop their ability to unravel meanings and improve their critical approach to the literary text. Some
literary theorists argue that interpretation only takes place when the reader has developed more
influence on his/her construction of meaning from a text (Schade, 2002). Consequently, through the
interpretative activities, the student will be able to (Beach, Appleman, Fecho, Simon, 2017):

Personal Identity In The Overcoat And The Nose
In Gogol s The Overcoat , an every man apparently becomes something more by replacing his
overcoat. In Gogol s The Nose , a man is temporarily reduced to nothing upon literally losing his nose.
In both texts, the interplay of dreams and reality serve to highlight Gogol s issues with the fabric of
Russian society and personal identity by creating unconventional narration, a dynamic perspective,
and characterization.
In the beginning stages of both the The Overcoat and The Nose , the reader is introduced to the
respective protagonists through an unconventional first person narration. In both stories, the narrator

Again, the transition in perspective makes the state of reality unclear, and serves to highlight the
supreme importance rank holds in Gogol s society. If The Nose was only told from Kovalyov s point
of view, for example, it may have been possible he hallucinated or dreamed the entire thing. By
initially making the perspective that of the barber, Gogol makes his story much more surreal; either
Kovalyov s nose is literally walking about St. Petersburg, or St. Petersberg is experiencing some kind
of surreal, shared phantasm. This surrealism allows Gogol to highlight the absurdity of the situation:
At first, the barber is afraid that he has found Kovalyov s nose, but after the nose is masquerading
about the streets with certain clothes and minor embellishments, it is treated with such reverence that
even Kovalyov treats his own nose as an official of higher rank. It is only when Kovalyov files a
report with the police that his nose is finally returned to him, and even then the police officer had
trouble recognizing the nose as not being a high ranking official. Through the surrealism brought
about by dynamic perspective, Gogol highlights the absurdity of how much his society focuses on
rank. While the interplay of dream and reality generate the dynamic, surrealist perspective in The
Nose and The Overcoat , the nature of dreams and reality also directly affects

Technology Is Not A Distraction
Technology is not a distraction, it is a benefit. Technology is one of the most controversial and
innovative subjects in recent history. It has been said that technology will preserve the human race,
and we will survive longer in the future due to technology breakthroughs. However, many claim that
technology is destroying our minds and causing us to remain distracted throughout daily life activities.
Recently, teachers and professors have struggled with their students with being distracted by current
technological devices during lectures. Teachers should use technology in the classroom because it
improves student s achievements, keeps student s involved, and promotes higher thinking. For
example, US News journalist Ryan Lytle wrote an article stating an Advanced Placement Calculus
teacher named Stacey Roshan, an instructor at Bullis; a private school for students in grades three
through twelve in Potomac, Maryland. According to Lytle, the students in her class faced the problem
of trying to keep her engaged as she walked them through the difficult mathematics curriculum.
During her previous three years at the school, Roshan notes, students were routinely stupefied by the
traditional classroom lecture and often left class with more questions than answers (Lytle). They
wanted so much more time in the classroom to work on problems, Roshan Says. Ms. Roshan decided
to act on her own initiative and take her students lack of answers from her lectures into her own hands.

High School Students
Young adults, or adolescents, begin their last four grades of statutory education in a place called high
school. The purpose of this arduous journey is to teach a large range of prosperous skills, information,
and knowledge that will aid students throughout college and ultimately the real world. In the society
we live in today, however, people never question the pressure this quantitative form of education
imposes upon students. This crushing, mortifying stress plummets the mental and physical health of
pupils sometimes to the point of no return. Colleges contribute greatly to this injustice as well: tuition
fees and acceptance rates result being the primary concerns of families across the nation. Today s
society should not endorse the over pressurization of college, as that in return results in the declination
of health of high school students.
¬Stress plagues almost every high school student, and while miniscule amounts may not result in
negative consequences, excessive amounts will (Palmer). Pressure by parents and schools to achieve
top scores has created stress levels among students beginning as early as elementary school that are so
high that some educators regard it as a health epidemic, stated Denise Clark Pope, a lecturer in the

Materialistic and Miseducated Students. Societal pressure about achieving high quality grades

Ip Address Scenario
Unit 1 Exercise 1 IP address scenario There are many factors involved in this scenario. For example,
the building may lend itself to certain network designs. You may have multiple floors or a single floor.
Multiple data closets or just one. You may have virtualized servers or desktops. You will want to
accommodate all these into your design. 50% may seem like too much now, but realistically, 200 or
300% might be more acurate. A simple design you can consider is 1 floor with a single data closet
serving 150 users. You need: A core network Networks for your firewall, dmz, remote vpn clients, etc

have not yet identified, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you can imagine wanting multiple networks for servers in the future for security reasons, this makes
sense. You may not want to lump your security camera video servers in the same network as your
email server. You may want a dedicated development network. You may have remote users that don t
need access to all servers. Things like that will influence your final design. Another recommendation
would be to leave 10.1.0.0/21 for network usage. Then make 10.1.8.0/21 for your access. This can be
carved up as above, 10.1.8.0/24 for pc s, 10.1.9.0/24 for voip and so on. You can also go with smaller
chunks if you are planning multiple data closets. 10.1.8.0 /22 would give 10.1.8.0 10.1.11.254 with
a/24 network for pc,s voip, other then floor 2 10.1.12.0/22 10.1.12.0 10.1.14.254. In any case, your
design needs to be flexible enough to handle massive change without needing a complete overhaul. If
you have 50 pc s per network now and you allow for 254 and you have separate networks already in
place for voip, wireless and 4 other networks that can be carved into smaller networks as needed, you
will have enough to go around without redesigning anything for a long time. There are lots of pages

Analysis of The Moose Essay examples
Analysis of The Moose
Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas are
not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six
syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between
verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive
details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained.
The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick.
While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The
appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly ... Show more content on

The thirty six line introduction is the most sustained piece of writing in the poem. It forms a sequence
of red leaved and purple Canadian landscapes through which the blue bus journeys. Then, in smaller
units, for another thirty six lines the bus route is reviewed, main stops mentioned, and further details
concerning the passengers, the weather, and the scenic sights duly recorded. Day is replaced by
evening, and light gives way to darkness. The eleventh stanza brings in a climactic moment of
equilibrium and economy of design. Beginning with the thirteenth stanza, the first quotes are used, as
they will again be in the twentieth, twenty fourth and twenty fifth, and, finally, in the twenty seventh
stanza. Stanza 14 the moonlight episode is the very center of the poem. This section is rhymeless,
though this is amply compensated for by the triple epithets in the third line, and it marks the transition
from the outer, natural world to the inner, human concerns of the second part of the work, which
includes lines 85 129. Usually unchronicled and unheroic human tragedy receives an indirect
presentation, culminating with the moving and dramatically rendered twentieth stanza. The third part
of the poem begins, appropriately, in mid stanza with line 130. The encounter with the moose the
climax of the entire poem is allotted two descriptive stanzas (the twenty fourth and the twenty sixth).
The remaining two stanzas form a kind of a coda,

Seven Pounds With Will Smith Movie
I watched the movie seven pounds with Will Smith starring as the main character. The movie presents
a phenomenal message and enables the audience to decide what is their purpose in life, and how it
could change if their life suddenly changed drastically. In the movie seven pounds Will Smith, the
character Ben Thomas was in a tragic accident, he caused while texting and driving that took seven
lives, one in particular so happen to be his wife. Furthermore Ben s perspective on life changed. Three
ethics portrayed in the movie kindness, justice, and compassion which Ben blessed upon seven people
he encountered to overcome his guilt. Although Ben ignored the laws of man, and risked getting into
trouble, he realized the lives of others were important and they needed help. The first ethic kindness
was shown, Ben decides to donate critical organs to people to change their lives. When a social
worker illegally gives Ben contact information for an abused wife so Ben could help her. The ... Show

Ben exemplified compassion in many cases, were he would sacrifice himself or his personal trails for
someone else troubles. In reality this scene can compare with real life cases in the world today how
compassion can be shared with people to impact others. In the movie Ben finds himself falling in love
with a girl name Emily, who has an enlarged heart that he later gave his life for her to survive. Ben
shared compassion with 6 other people, but given the most compassion to Emily. The third ethic
Justice came towards the end of the movie, sadly Ben committed suicide at a great cost. Accepting, the
guilt he faced physically, mentally, and emotionally after killing seven people, including his wife he
love the most. Ben could not forgive himself, because he was the cause of lost lives. So he decided
that he would find seven lives to change to deal with his agony for his

Fight Against Texas Immigration Law Case Analysis
The article titled City of Dallas to join fight against Texas immigration law 1 summarizes Dallas
Mayor, Mike Rawlings, recently shared opinions on the Senate Bill 4 that will begin on September of
2017. Like many of the Texans, he currently opposes this bill and states that [it] is unconstitutional
and [will] infringe upon the city s ability to protect public safety. 2 To conclude the article, it states
that Dallas will join other cities and take legal action in opposition to this bill, but it is still uncertain if
they will file their own lawsuit.
The Senate Bill 4 was passed on the early morning of April 27, 2017, and many oppositions have
arisen over the course of the past month. This bill will ban sanctuary jurisdictions once it begins later
this year and the opinions about it vary from person to person. Personally, I am against it, for Texas is
known for its large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a Hispanic myself, I would absolutely hate to be asked my legal status if I was ever stopped by
a police officer since that is not something one usually screams out to the public. Before this past
school year ended some of my teachers were very worried with how these new laws would affect our
school since most public schools in this region don t necessarily ask for a legal status when registering
a student. This wasn t the problem; however, various clubs and organizations have trips to cities
outside of this county and require passing through the checkpoint in Falfurrias. Typically, the teacher
in charge notifies the officer that we are traveling as a school and no one gets asked individually if
they are citizens or residents of the United States. Our fear now is that this might not happen anymore
and students that are immigrants may not participate in these kinds of trips. This is very unfair to them
and many can agree with the fact that leaving them behind shouldn t be an

  • 2. Object Relations Theory Is A Psychodynamic Theory Object Relations Theory Object relations theory is a psychodynamic theory that observes our capability to form long lasting attachments, and is based on our early experiences of disconnection from and connections with out primary caregivers. We internalize our initial relationship examples, which means that our first relationships make lasting impressions on us, determining how we approach future relationships. Also, object relations theory studies how people form various attitudes towards others and how those attitudes affect their view of themselves as well as social relationships. There is a central notion of object relation s theory, which is that all people naturally search for relationships with others, what this theory looks at is how well an individual can form the interpersonal relationship and what, if any, deficiencies in social functioning may have occurred. For social workers, this theory is helpful in seeing an individual in the framework of the relationship rather than an individual being. According to object relations theory, the ultimate situation is to be raised by caregivers who in turn help us to progressively and appropriately move away from their physical and emotional direct care while they continue to convey their availability for support (Hutchison, 2013). These early associations are a major determinant of our personalities and the quality of our interpersonal performance (Hutchison, 2013; Dorfman, Meyer, Morgan, 1998). Essentially, an ... Federal Government And The Internal Revenue Service David Schleis Tax Rates Understanding the Many Different Tax Rates Each Year David Schleis, and his fellow Tax Preparers at DS Financial Advisors, are waiting to explain the current and past tax rates to you. These rates, which are applicable to every tax payer, can be confusing for some. Seeking the help of a qualified accountant and finding a tax professional who is knowledgeable is the key to prompt and efficient income tax return filing. What are Tax Rates? The federal government and the Internal Revenue Service dictates that each dollar of certain income you earn is subject to taxation. The percentage taxed on that dollar is determined by your individual tax rate. Tax rates are different for everyone, and will change yearly, depending upon your total annual income and filing status. For tax payers who are unsure of their unique tax liability, it is important to find a tax professional for tax rates. Tax Brackets Explained There is much confusion between the terms tax rate and tax bracket. Many believe that they are interchangeable, though they are not. Your tax bracket is determined based upon a formulaic spreadsheet that uses your filing status and total annual income. When this information is added to the tax bracket system, the resulting number is the tax rate that some or all of your income will be taxed at. Using the tax bracket guidelines, you can figure out your own individual tax rate. Keep in mind that the tax rates change each year. If you are filing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When having a diversity of people working for a company, different types of personalities intermingle with each other on a day to day basis. Even though having a diverse group of people coexist in the workforce can serve a huge benefit to the company, it can also lead to problems amongst coworkers. Flaws In Othello Essay Research Essay: Othello by William Shakespeare Was Othello a victim of circumstances or his own flaws? by Alijaeh Go 9B4 First performed in the court of King James I on November 1 1604, The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice was written by William Shakespeare between 1601 and 1604. The basic premise of the play is the protagonist s (Othello s) marriage with the daughter of the senator, Desdemona: Their marriage, unfortunately, is sabotaged by the envious Iago, insinuating to Othello of his wife s alleged infidelity. The play reaches its climactic peak when the general s jealousy vows to exact bloody revenge on the perpetrators (Desdemona and Cassio) that caused him to be a cuckold . All of Iago s schemes come into fruition when the noble Moor smothers his wife to death: The play spirals further downhill with most of the cast either dead, severely injured or in Iago s case, on the process to be tortured. Based from this summary, a mere observer would conclude that the reason for Othello s downfall is his hamartia his incessant jealousy that caused for his rash actions. Challenging Gender Expectations in Pat Barker s Regeneration Siegfried Sassoon and Sarah Lumb in Pat Barker s Regeneration (1991) exemplify the bravery of those fighting against gender norms during the First World War. Sassoon proves his bravery by writing to protest the war to his military superiors and the broader public. Sarah courageously goes against her society s and her mother s gender norms by taking on a more masculine role. Sarah is sexually independent in her relationship with Billy Prior by behaving as an equal as opposed to playing the passive feminine role. She does not wait for her mother s approval of Prior, and is eager to enjoy the independence women s war work offers. Sarah worked at a munition factory being paid for manual labor. She is not intimidated by those trying to control her, but instead courageously takes on a more masculine role. Sassoon also challenges gender expectations by writing about the emotional traumas of war, as well as by discreetly exploring his own sexuality, opening himself up to criticisms of feminine weakness. Though his unconventional acts led to accusations of mental illness, Sassoon courageously refuses the opportunity to retain his reputation for a more conventional masculinity and openly demonstrates his weakness and emotions to the public. Introduction: In 1910 mexicans fled from Mexico to work in agriculture in America, they labored in inhumane conditions and the people they worked for ignored state laws on working conditions (Tavaana). This is how the farm workers would work before the United Farm Workers Union came along. They didn t have the rights they deserved, they were treated however the growers would like to treat them because they would go around the law and do what they wanted. Farm workers didn t have unions and the rights that they do now back in 1910. Research has been done on this topic on how them migrating started, on how they were treated, and how it has gotten better over the years. This topic is important because it discusses some of the history of Mexican immigrants. It also demonstrates some challenges they went through when they came to the United States to find work. • 16. The Chemical Compounds Of Synthetic Fertilizer Once soil is intoxicated, the chemical compounds in synthetic fertilizer create a harmful environment for microbial life and are later dispersed to surrounding areas through the process of hydrology. In naturally fertile soil, microbial life is diverse and abundant. In fact, as soil microbiologist David Zuber has stated in his Soil Microbiology FAQ article, there can be hundreds of millions to billions of microbes in a single gram (about the size of a navy bean in volume) of soil. These microbes range from bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, cyanobacteria, protozoa, and microarthropods, all of which play very specialized roles in maintaining the integrity of soil. Innately, microbes ward off pathogens, provide root protection, and maintain oxygen and moisture levels. (Hermary). For example, microbes consume a naturally abundant and potent form of nitrogen (NH4+), along with other compounds, and excrete preferred forms of nitrogen (NO2 N and NO3 N). This process, fixation, allow microbes to maintain a fixed levels of essential chemicals. Likewise, through the process of denitrification, anaerobic bacteria provides oxygen to soil by removing excess nitrate (NO3 N), while other microbes aerate and disperse the supplied oxygen. While microbes execute an assortment of other tasks, it is apparent that these organisms create a balance. However, with the introduction of synthetic fertilizer, this natural balance is ravaged. My dad did not see it was important for us to attend church until his parents returned home from missionary work in Guadalajara, Mexico when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. I was in third grade when they returned home and we did not start attending regularly until a few years after. We still lived in a Christian home but as I have grown up, looking back, I see that it was not much of a Christian home. We only prayed on holidays before we would eat our meal and that was when we were surrounded by my grandparents of either side. Eventually we started attending church regularly at a United Methodist church up the road from our house. I still do not believe we are that dedicated to the church and to God, as we only pray before we eat on Sundays and holidays as well. We do not speak much of God or ways we could work on being better Christians, we still go about the same ways of life we had before, except now on Sundays we attend a sermon. Because of this mix of confusion, lack of effective cross agency communication, and incentives brought about by a lack of viable alternate educational resources other than special education, studies have found both underidentification and overidentification problems with foster youth and special education services. Moreover, even those who are appropriately diagnosed often receive poorly written individualized education plans (IEPs) that are often dropped or ignored when the student moves to a different district (Vacca, 2008). One study found that in Oregon, although 39 percent of foster youth had received IEPs, only 16 percent actually received services (White, Carrington, amp; Freeman, as cited in Ayasse, 1995). Clearly, special education is a point of particular importance and contention for students in foster care. Studies have quantified the negative impact on foster youth through other means beyond academic performance and placement. Due to traumatic past experiences with family, prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol, neglect, abuse, or a combination of these and other factors, foster youth display a high incidence of emotional or behavioral problems. In order to decide whether the letter was written by Paul or not you must look at history during the time of Paul s letters and compare letters ascribed to Paul with letters written by others of the same time. According to our class lecture, The Jewish War happened just as the letters of Paul were beginning to circulate and the gospels were being written down. Therefore, an understanding of the Jewish war is essential to understanding the New Testament. Scholars as well as Iliff students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author of Colossians has experienced the resurrection of Christ. How can this be since the undisputed letters indicate believers have not experienced the resurrection of Christ. Colossians was written after the resurrection of Christ, therefore Paul did not write it (Ehrman, 444). According to Ehrman, even more scholars are convinced that Ephesians was not written by Paul just as Second Thessalonians and Colossians were not written by Paul. The primary issue with Ephesians is the letter is written to the Saints in Ephesus (Eph1:1). When reviewing the best Greek manuscripts of the letter it appears that scribes added this later. The original was to the saints who are faithful. The change was so that those in Ephesus would think the letter was written directly to them (Ehrman, 445). Undisputed One key characteristic of Paul s letters was they were written to deal with different situations. On example is the disputes at Corinth. If you look at the undisputed epistles, Paul is addressing issues in those churches. Those issues are wide ranging. Some of the issues are theological issues and others of practical problems encountered during that day and time in the church. Paul appears to write with an urgent need to address each one of ... Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice, oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is important to the scientific community because ... Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B) through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost, causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. • 28. John R Searle Can Computers Think Summary In Can Computers Think?, John R. Searle argues that strong artificial intelligence is false and therefore machines cannot think or exhibit understanding like a human mind. Strong AI claims that a correctly written program running on a machine functions as a mind and there are essentially no differences between the software exactly emulating the actions of the brain and the mental contents of a human. Searle uses a thought experiment called the Chinese Room Argument to argue against strong AI. Various objections, such as the Robot Reply, challenge Searle s argument by further testing the potential of a machine to possess understanding, intentionality, and subjectivity. In this essay, I will argue that Searle s argument against strong AI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will explain two objections to Searle but conclude that the Robot Reply is a stronger objection. First, the System s Reply claims that the person in the Chinese Room does not implement the computer software. Rather, the person is only part of the machinery and the system as a whole implements the software. The System s Reply claims the larger system understands Chinese even if the person running the program does not. I assert that the person running the program can internalize the larger system and still cannot understand Chinese, that is, gain semantics from syntax. In comparison to the Systems Reply, the Robot Reply adds the capacity for casual interaction with the world. The Robot Reply concedes that Searle is correct that a computer trapped in a computer room could not understand the meaning of the language whose symbols it is manipulating. However, the Robot reply further claims that such a computer in a robot body, with the ability to move and interact with the world through sensors, could attach meaning to symbols and actually understand the language. While the Robot Reply is the strongest objection to the Chinese Room Argument, I oppose this objection to Searle s argument because the robot system continues to follow a computational set of rules that are established through its ... A Byronic Hero Of Our Time By Mikhail Lermontov Pechorin A Byronic Hero A Hero of Our Time, written by Mikhail Lermontov, consists of 5 stories that reflect the life, the idea and the personality of the main character named Pechorin. Pechorin is not a typical hero in romantic literature perspective; instead, he is a great representation of a pathetic Byronic hero that more commonly appears in the time of Lermontov. Different from a traditional hero and as a typical Byronic hero, Pechorin is reflected to be self centered and manipulative in many parts of the story. His selfishness is shown through his indifference to others and through the despicable methods of getting the things he wants. Pechorin is sexually appealing, and could won the love of many beauties easily. However, he never really cherished his charming and tried to manipulate the girls in the way he wants. When he flirts with a girl, mostly it is because he is temporarily enjoying their beauty and the pleasure he can get from them. Both essays cover two very different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep as the focus point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist events that happens throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right away you can tell that young David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His essay starts out with his teacher scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and he doesn t understand why he gets in trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism and David Sedaris on mental illness but David Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that happens every single day, and A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad childhood plagued by uncomfortable moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and covers it up with humor. That is why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay even though Turkeys in the Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood exactly what he was trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and left me slightly confused. They are handed more political, economic and social power. Specifically in the Indian, Byzantine and Aztec empires, elites were allowed to have almost complete control over the people of the land. They are allowed to make, break and enforce rules to their discretion. The aristocrats were given respect, land, food, and care far superior to anyone else in the region. The Axum kingdom illustrated the potential of trade to boost economic development and support political development. Axum was originally a small kingdom whose merchants traded from the port of Adulis on the Red Sea. While Axumite merchants traded with Muslim merchants on a regular basis, they were challenged by Muslim forces. However, they were able to maintain independence and prosperity because of its large participation in trading routes of the Indian Ocean. It feeds on the phloem of trees, leaving them mutilated, their bark eviscerated and leaking sawdust. Victims of choice include lodgepoles, western white pines, and ponderosa, but any gymnosperm will do. For the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae, the invasion means reproductive success. For the tree, it means slow death. Though the beetle chooses the victim, it is the fungus it carries, Grosmannia clavigera, that delivers the fatal blow (Safranyik and Carroll 2006). Working in tandem with the insect, the fungus spreads across the surface of the trunk, dismantling all defenses. So refined is this relationship that the beetles store the fungus in specialized containers. Sap, which trees use to wash out offending beetles, crystallizes, forming a pitch cap characteristic of infected trees. Cut off from nutrients, the host begins to wither away. If The Nose was only told from Kovalyov s point of view, for example, it may have been possible he hallucinated or dreamed the entire thing. By initially making the perspective that of the barber, Gogol makes his story much more surreal; either Kovalyov s nose is literally walking about St. Petersburg, or St. Petersberg is experiencing some kind of surreal, shared phantasm. This surrealism allows Gogol to highlight the absurdity of the situation: At first, the barber is afraid that he has found Kovalyov s nose, but after the nose is masquerading about the streets with certain clothes and minor embellishments, it is treated with such reverence that even Kovalyov treats his own nose as an official of higher rank. It is only when Kovalyov files a report with the police that his nose is finally returned to him, and even then the police officer had trouble recognizing the nose as not being a high ranking official. It has been said that technology will preserve the human race, and we will survive longer in the future due to technology breakthroughs. Recently, teachers and professors have struggled with their students with being distracted by current technological devices during lectures. Teachers should use technology in the classroom because it improves student s achievements, keeps student s involved, and promotes higher thinking. For example, US News journalist Ryan Lytle wrote an article stating an Advanced Placement Calculus teacher named Stacey Roshan, an instructor at Bullis; a private school for students in grades three through twelve in Potomac, Maryland. According to Lytle, the students in her class faced the problem of trying to keep her engaged as she walked them through the difficult mathematics curriculum. During her previous three years at the school, Roshan notes, students were routinely stupefied by the traditional classroom lecture and often left class with more questions than answers (Lytle). In the society we live in today, however, people never question the pressure this quantitative form of education imposes upon students. You will want to accommodate all these into your design. 50% may seem like too much now, but realistically, 200 or 300% might be more acurate. Then make 10.1.8.0/21 for your access. This can be carved up as above, 10.1.8.0/24 for pc s, 10.1.9.0/24 for voip and so on. You can also go with smaller chunks if you are planning multiple data closets. 10.1.8.0 /22 would give 10.1.8.0 10.1.11.254 with a/24 network for pc,s voip, other then floor 2 10.1.12.0/22 10.1.12.0 10.1.14.254.
