Mcdonald s Stock Symbol Or Stock Ticker
The name of the company I decided to research for my project is Mcdonalds. The Mcdonald s
stock symbol or stock ticker is MCD and this company trades in the New York Stock Exchange.
The McDonald s headquarters complex, McDonald s Plaza, is located in Oak Brook, Illinois.
The business began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by brothers Richard and Maurice
McDonald in San Bernardino, California. The present corporation dates its founding to the
opening of a franchised restaurant by businessman Ray Kroc in Des Plaines, Illinois. Ray Kroc
later purchased the McDonald brothers equity in the company and led its worldwide expansion,
and the company became listed on the public stock markets ten years later. McDonald s
restaurants are found now in 118 countries and territories around the world and serve 68 million
customers each day. McDonald s operates over 35,000 restaurants worldwide, employing more
than 1.7 million people. As you might have guessed, a company as large as Mcdonalds has a ton
of corporate level executives. The chairman of the board of directors for Mcdonald s is Andrew
J. McKenna. Andrew James McKenna was born in Chicago, Illinois on 17 September 1929.
McKenna graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS degree in Business
Administration and Marketing, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from DePaul
University College of Law. McKenna has been chairman of McDonald s since 2004. The rest of

TOK Knowledge Essay
The claim Knowledge is nothing more than the systematic organization of facts, has many flaws
in its implications. All of the knowledge that we gain as ToK knowers cannot be considered
infallible fact. The term fact implies that the statement or claim can be reinforced with substantial
evidence and can be proven, and we have learned that almost any information can be considered
knowledge, no matter how subjective or specific the information is. Given that an individual is
defined by having a specific and unique way of thinking and perceiving the world, most of the
knowledge gained in several different Areas of Knowledge are heavily dependent on the
perspectives of the individuals under examination. Both the Areas of Knowledge of Ethicsand
Human Sciences have many ambiguities when it comes to organizing and legitimizing this data.
This leads the knower to ask, What makes information factual in terms of ToK knowledge? It can be
proven through Ethics and Human Sciences that knowledge is not the systematic organization of
facts, but the systematic organization of collective data to show trends and patterns. Ethical
boundaries and impressions are subjective to every individual, and the public ethical boundary must
be based off of the accumulative average of the environment. There is not a factual This is right vs.
This is wrong because no single human being has the authority to make such a statement. In fact, it
is this basic ethical disagreement that has led to

Understanding the Motivation off Alcibiades
Alcibiades was a highly motivated individual with a drive to gain power by any means necessary.
Alcibiades upbringing conditioned him, one might say entitled him, to power and influence, and
his self serving actions had the sole objectives of surpassing his predecessors and achieving glory.
To understand the motivation of Alcibiades, we must look to his upbringing and character to
examine his sense of entitlement. Alcibiades was born into an aristocratic Athenian family so he
would have been pro oligarchy; he was the son of Cleinias (Thuc 5.43) who was slain at the battle
of Coroneia (Plut. Alcibiades 1). After the death of his father, Alcibiades was placed under the
guardianship of Pericles (Plut. Alcibiades 1), who was leader of the state and the most influential
man of his day (Thuc 1.127). The connection that Alcibiades shared with Pericles, enabled him to
enjoy the company of influential figures throughout Athens, and consequently; they desired him. It
was said, many well born men were swarming around Alcibiades and seeking his company (Plut.
Alcibiades 4), being held in such high regard by the elite would have boosted his sense of self
importance, gained him influence and bring about great personal fame (Thu. 6.16). Alcibiades was
a pleasure seeker who surrounded himself with admirers that enthralled him with flattery and favors
(Plut. Alcibiades 4), these indulgences soon lead to him rebelling against anyone who would try to
influence or admonish him (Plut.

Common Themes In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Research Harrison Bergeron In Kurt Vonnegut short story Harrison Bergeron , he shows a theme
where people are perfectly equal by normalizing everyone to the point of no freedom for the
talented. The story tells a tale that warns Americans of the dangers of creating a truly equalitarian
society in which its citizens sacrifice their individuality and freedom to the government in order to
create a place where all men are created equal. Equality is a beloved principle enshrined in
America s Declaration of Independence in the phrase All men are created equal, but Vonnegut
suggests that the ideals of egalitarianism can be dangerous if they are interpreted too literally. One
of the points that Vonnegut show is when the government is given far too much power and due to
the handicap radio the people are passive and ignorant. The... Show more content on

In the story, Harrison Bergeron is a character who is greatly restricted by the law of the
government due to his superior intelligent and strength. He tries to defy the government by
making a large display of his might by going on TV and striping off the restraint. He wanted to
show the world as to what he could have become by exclaiming that he is an emperor and making
the rest the royal and such. However after he make all that display and strip them of their handicap
and allowed them to be what they are for a moment, Diana Moon Glampers the Handicapper
General shot him to death and the main character George and his wife Hazel don t seem to recalled
that event despite watching it in front of him, which come to show the power of the government to
kill without fear of reprisal. This shows how Vonnegut story is very similar to the Cold Wars where
America was against Soviet Russia. During those time patriot and the police would hunt civilian

Present Day Climate Change
Many people think that present day climate change is similar to paleoclimate change, but this is
only true when looking at the effects of climate change, the trends in temperature, and the trends
in greenhouse gas levels, which have all stayed the same. By applying the principle of uniformity,
we know that many of the current processes, such as plate tectonics happened in the same way in
the past. In order to use climate proxy records, we have to apply this principle to be able to
compare the data about the current and past environment with equal weight. For example, we
assume that the ice cores reacted the same way to changes in air composition and temperature in
the past, such as the mid Cretaceous, as they do today, so that we can make fair statements of
whether or not the air composition and temperatures have changed or stayed relatively similar. We...

In the mid Cretaceous, coral reefs were found in abundance near 5 to 30 degrees polewards.
Today, we can find them only from 5 to 15 degrees polewards, and there are also very few of
them at those locations. In the past atmospheric aerosols had natural causes such as sulfur and
water vapor from volcanoes, but today most of the aerosols put in the air is smog. Most of this
smog is due to humans burning coal and driving vehicles everyday in such large numbers in
multiple places throughout the world. Additionally, in the mid Cretaceous volcanic activity was the
main contributor of atmospheric COв‚‚, but today the main COв‚‚ emitter is the burning of coal,
and also fossil fuels. If coral reefs, the causes of aerosols in our atmosphere, and the causes of
atmospheric CO2 have all changed, then we cannot say that paleoclimate and present day climate

Analysis Of The Novel Mister Pip
In my opinion a novel has to capture the reader s attention in the first two pages and hold that same
attention throughout the whole journey for it to be a novel that is worthwhile reading. Lloyd Jones
literary style throughout the novel Mister Pip is captivating, compelling, grotesque and
enlightening all at once. Through the various personalities and explorations of each characterand
through back stories that unfold through flashbacks and story telling, Lloyd Jones lures the reader
into the story.
When readers express their fondness for a novel it is generally because the first few pages reel
them in and intrigues them to learn more about the story to come. Lloyd Jones opens the novel
with a detailed description of one of the main characters Mr Watts. By starting the book with
Everyone called him Pop Eye. (page 1) creates a mystery about who Mr Pop Eye and Mrs Pop
Eye could be and why they are so important to be the introduction to the novel, this gives the
impression that he is a major key character to the plot of this novel. It is also the introduction to
Bougainville and the time of place that the reader is taken to. We learn that Papua New Guinea
is rich with copper and that most of the men on the island have moved away from the villages to
work at the mine and the women and children are left to look after the village with the exception

Finland And American Education System
In the 1970 s, Finland didn t have a spot at the top of the education chain; in fact they had a poor
education system (NEA). Finland has changed their education system over the past 35 years to
make it better. They have changed their education system to become successful. When looking at
the American educationsystem and the Finland education system there are obvious differences
between the testing, the paths for the students to take, the time management during school hours,
and the classroom environment.
The differences between Finland and American education systems start with the youngest students.
Finland students start school at a later age than American students. In Finland their students don t
start school until they reach the age of seven years old, where as in America the students start
school when they reach the age of five. Finland also doesn t focus on testing their younger students.
Instead, they focus on play and teaching their younger students how to understand their way of
think and learn. Finland doesn t start testing their students until they enter the fourth grade, around
the age of twelve. In America the testing starts when some students enter pre kindergarten.
In America the Bush era law requires that students in third through eighth grades take tests on their
reading and math skills, then re test again in high school. Determining the number average of tests
that an American student takes is difficult because many states and districts require their

The Legend Of King Arthur
King Arthur King Arthur was one of Britain s and Wale s most influential literary figures from the
early 800 s. Through the ages more caught on to these Arthurian Legends, and they began to
embrace them as part of their culture. Some believe that he is only a legend, yet others believe that
there is even an Arthur living among us today. While growing up, Arthur was oblivious to his
heritage. From becoming a King at the age of 16, Arthur showed courage and strength in the
darkest of times. This is why King Arthur, a mythological legend, was a brave warrior and man at
heart whose betrayal and death influenced today s society through literature, art, and even on screen
productions.
There are many legends of King Arthur s life, yet there is little knowledge of his childhood.
Although Arthur was a king, he did not have the same upbringing as most noblemen and women.
His father,
A warrior King named Uther Pendragon the ruler of Britain. With magical help from his advisor,
Merlin the Enchanter, King Uther tricked his rival s wife Igraine and conceived Arthur at Tintagel
Castle. As part of the bargain with Uther, Merlin then took the infant Arthur away from Tintagel, to
the house of Sir Ector, where he was brought up as a foster son, ignorant of his heritage. ( Legend
of King Arthur )
When he was about 16, a sword appeared in a stone. Hearing the news, Arthur went along with his
Foster brother, Kay, to England to see this magnificent sword and try to remove it. This

Pascal s Wager Rhetorical Analysis
Pascal acknowledges that a belief in God s existence cannot be supported by argument or
evidence, but claims that religious belief is a rational necessity. This essay will address how
Pascal presents his argument, and how it is in our interest to believe in god. I will argue that
Pascal s Wager has weaknesses due to its reliance on an overly simplistic judgement, and will
contemplate how Pascal may reply to such criticisms. I will conclude with an evaluation that
questions why a believer is superior to a disbeliever, and whether one can truly coerce themselves
to believe in gods existence.
Pascal s Wager is the attempt to justify belief in the Christian God not with an appeal to evidence
for his existence but rather with an appeal to self interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pascal s Wager exclusively addresses the Christian God out of an infinite number of possible
Gods. With no further information, the laws of probability mean that inadvertently worshiping
the wrong God is a practical certainty. Only when the probability of a particular God existing
increases does Pascal s Wager become viable, that is, if one God could be proven to have higher
likelihood of existing than any other God, Pascal s Wager would represent a clear benefit.
Seeing as no god is empirically provable, the most rational decision would be to choose the
religion that rewards believers with the best heaven, and disbelievers with the worse hell. In that
case we should chose to worship the Invisible Pink Unicorns (IPU) because they have an infinite
bad hell and an infinitely wonderful heaven. Considering that this theory cannot be disproven, if
the probability is only close to zero we still have infinite gain/loss since infinity times any positive
value is still infinity. Hence for anyone constrained by a bias towards a particular God, the Wager
will suit their belief. However rationality suggests that wagering solely for the Christian God is not

Essay Chopin Sonata NO. 3

Piano Sonata No. 3 in b minor, Op. 58 by FrГ©dГ©ric Chopin
Chopin s third sonata is a masterwork filled with pianistic elements, daring harmonies,
experimental form, and a wealth of expressivity. In this four movement work, references to other
Chopin compositions and influences from fellow composers are found. At the same time, there is a
progressive element; it looks forward to the heights which would be achieved by Chopin and later
composers.
Background
Chopin wrote the Sonata, Op. 58 in 1844, several months after the Berceuse, Op. 57. The Berceuse
provides inspiration for the slow movement (Samson, Chopin 23). These works were written at a
time when Chopin s relationship with George Sand was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was an uninspired composition, a failure, and largely forgotten (Huneker 166).
Movement 1: Allegro maestoso
The first movement of the third sonata is the most experimental, the one which deviates most from
Classical form and harmonies. The exposition, in particular, is more like a fantasy than a sonata.
The sonata opens quite promisingly. A descending broken chord followed by ascending march like
chords creates the primary theme (mm. 1 4). As soon as this theme is established, it is lost by a
transition. The transition (mm. 12 16) is derived from the opening theme. Traditionally, the
transition should segue way into the second theme. However, this transition leads to another idea,
which is characterized by majestic chords (mm. 17 18). This melodic idea is equally promising; it
has the potential to serve as the primary theme which had been cut short. Unfortunately, it only
holds for two measures before it is swept away by a descending chromatic scale in sixths.
The listener would perceive the slow moving idea (mm. 23 29) which follows as the second theme,
if it were not for its fleeting mysteriousness. It provides a contrast to the majestic themes which
opened the movement. The harmonic ambiguities, created by the chromaticism, are very
progressive for the Romantic era. This chromatic section is only the beginning of a lengthy
transition (mm. 23 40), composed of at least

One of the first Decepticons shown is unidentified, and the air force base is trying to contact

Peter Pan And Anne Of Green Gables Comparison
In today s society, there is a persistent belief that children and adults are fundamentally different.
Society has placed a gap between these generations that is evident throughout movies and
children s literature. In J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan and L.M. Montgomery s Anne of Green Gables,
binary oppositions come into play regarding childhood and adulthood, specifically the difference
in imagination and reality. This binary opposition is expressed greatly among the characters in
both novels. The children were introduced as possessing a wide range of imagination, however
as the novel progressed, as do their age, their imagination gradually diminished to a more
realistic view of life. The adults are focused on the reality of life, so much so, that they do not
have any room for imagination. These adults always conform to social standards in which they
live a basic life from work to home and back. They don t have any time to ponder their imagination

The Conflicts Of Deadly Conflict In Shakespeare s Macbeth
Judd Murphy
Brenda Polk
EN 101
16 October 2017
Deadly Conflicts Poets have always written in their own unique ways that are different from
others. All poets have their own style of writing that sets them apart and allows them to appeal to
different audiences. William Shakespeare was especially well known and still is because of this
amazing ability to write such good plays. Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Macbeth displays
several characters who struggle with indecision and internal conflict. The characters who face these
struggles are also faced with making tough decisions that have a lasting affect on how the play is
developed. The indecision and internal conflict in this play causes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
commit irrational actions and enter an intense state of paranoia. This emotional and physical state
that the two characters struggle with is what eventually leads to their downfall. Macbeth s main
struggle is his indecision on weather or not he should kill the king. Macbeth s main reason for
wanting to kill Duncan was because he wanted to become king himself. In Laila Abdalla s article
about the roles of power in Macbeth she says, Macbeth, I contend, illustrates that the kings
competing notions of power are a formula for calamity. Macbeth has several things to consider
when thinking about killing Duncan such as thoughts of it coming back to haunt him, Macbeth is
his host, and since he is noble many people would miss him. These three thoughts replay over and
over in Macbeth s head causing him to become a little crazy and have irrational thoughts. The
Tragedy of Macbeth has three major internal conflicts that consist of Lady Macbeth pressuring
Macbeth into murdering Duncan, Macbeth s feeling guilt after he murders Duncan, and Macbeth
losing his sanity after Banquo is murdered. Lady Macbeth encourages Macbeth to harm Dunkan in
the play, yet Macbeth procrastinates because he doesn t believe it s the best idea at the time. As
time goes on and Macbeth decides this is what he shall do, he kills Dunkan where he can become
king. Seth Clark s article about Macbeth says, Macbeth s actions become unjustifiable after the
murder of Duncan, the struggle of Macbeth before and immediately after he

Analysis Of The Point Of View Of A Woman
When choosing to lead readers through a novel in the point of view of a woman that is described
as so impetuous, yet self contained! Incapable of insincerity, devoid of affection and courageously
naturally beautiful. . . . So unlike most women, (Stoddard) Stoddard knows exactly what she is
doing. The Morgesons resists the conventionally domestic, passive 19th century feminine ideal and
Stoddard purposefully chooses to ignore the previously set paths for a female writer. Instead she
chooses to present readers with a narrative that is rich with emotional intensity, physicality, and
sexuality. She does this, in order to present us with a character that is on a journey of sexual
awakening. Cassandra s varying degrees of hunger in the novel... Show more content on

Also most well respected physicians of the time were in agreement that true women felt little or
no sexual desire, and that only abnormal or pathological women felt strong sexual desire
(Source #2). In fact, being sexually forward in the presence of a man suggested a worrying
sexual appetite and is directly in conflict with the notion that a woman only wanted sex in order
to procreate and become a mother (Source #1). Being aware of these 19th century conventions,
Stoddard would have had a hard time when writing, had she come out and explicitly stated that
Cassandra is hungry for acceptance of her sexuality. Thus, it would then have been the question
of how could a female writer of that time period cloak the meaning of her writing in a manner
that would be accepted while still fighting conventional standards. The obvious choice that is
made, is to use hunger as a metaphor for Cassandra s sexual satisfaction and dissatisfaction. This
may seem like an odd pairing, however, regardless of if Stoddard is aware of it, hunger and sex
and a lot in common. As researchers have suggested, Both feeding and sex are goal oriented
behaviors, both produce an advantageous outcome, both are triggered by a similar chemical in the

Quite often Death is portrayed and perceived as dark, ominous, dangerous, and foreboding just to
name a few. In this particular drama, death does play a serious role and does possess some of the
above mentioned characteristics, but not the stereotypical role associated by many with death; here
Death is cast as an obvious servant of God, not the typical servant of evil. Certain uncommon
qualities are given to Death in this play as well; Death clearly demonstrates fairness and mercy in
his allowance of Everyman to take a companion with him to the grave. Ron Tanner, writing in the
Philological Quarterly, illustrates another, borderline, humorous quality in Everyman, specifically
Everyman s negotiation with Death:
What makes the exchange between Death and Everyman humorous is Everyman s attempts at
negotiation. First he asks for an extension of time, then he tries to bribe Death...it is ridiculous to
attempt such bargains. This is the end, after all. Now, gentle Death, says Everyman, still hoping to
slip away, spare me till tomorrow. The humor here is that Death is anything but gentle or noble:
one has only to imagine the ghastly figure of death looming over the now flattering Everyman to
appreciate the irony. Everyman s words are doubly ironic since his request for respite has dwindled
from twelve years to only one day. (Tanner 1991)

Moana Film Analysis
There are some concepts that I want to explain that were in the movie. First is how the Social
Class works for the Polynesian people. Moana is the direct bloodline of the chief for her tribe.
She is next in line to rule after her dad passes it on to her. The Social class for her people is the
Gods, Tribal Chief, Princess, and the people. Their people are very humbled and honored to have
a great tradition of chiefs and history throughout time, and Moana is next in line. Her father tries to
lead by example and guides her through the process. But Moana wants to travel the seas and
become a way finder. Like in most Polynesian culture, traveling the seas was exploring other far
away islands near their islands. In the Pacific Ocean there are over... Show more content on

My second concept is Power and the direct connection it has with the ancestors of Moana s
people. For generations her family has had the power to control what goes on in the reef.
Thousands of years ago, Polynesian people were architects at traveling the seas. Finding new
land and providing new voyages for their people. Over time they found New Zealand, Tonga,
Samoa, and many other small islands. In Moana she is the direct bloodline and a leader of her
people, so voyaging is part of their culture. But her father oppressed her not to travel the seas,
and never leave the reef. No one went past the barrier reef, not even the chief himself. In
Polynesian culture they travel by boat. Over time many Polynesians were scattered throughout
the Pacific Ocean. In Polynesian culture they take pride in traveling the seas and following their
ancestors footsteps. Because of an unfortunate event that happened to the chief he uses his
power to oppress his daughter from leaving. Or at least he tried. Another character that uses his
power and is the direct cause for the islands to die is Maui. Who is a demi god blessed by the
Sea Gods to bring happiness to the world? Since he is Immortal and can t die, Maui has the
power to fix anything. But he does something daring which caused Te fiti the God of Creation to
be angry and destroys beautiful islands like Moana s. Teka the Lava god which is Te fiti s
alternate personality uses her power to vanquish anything in her path. She is mostly upset at
Maui for using his powers and being selfish. He loses his magic staff and become useless. As the
story moves on, Moana was chosen by the sea gods as a little girl to save her home and land.
Even though she needed every bit of help from Maui and others, but she accomplished them with
little to no power at all. She did trust her instincts and believing in herself even when things weren t
going right. The gods are shown in the

The Problem Of Providing Coverage Using A Group Of Mobile...
The problem of providing coverage using a group of mobile agents is investigated, where it is
desired to minimize the overall coverage metric (service cost) while achieving maximum
coverage with minimum actuator energy required by each agent. In addition, a distributed multi
agent area coverage control (MAACC) law is then provided which guarantees the convergence
of agents to the optimal configuration with respect to the cost (coverage metric) function. A
common assumption in all of the coverage control results is that the distribution of sensory
information in the environment is known apriori by all agents. The proposed cooperative area
coverage control framework is based on two interdependent tasks: (i) online learning of the
coverage area and storing of the data in the form of a probability map ; and (ii) utilization of the
probability map (which is used as a search map) and other data collected to compute online a
positional error trajectory (e(t)) for the agents to follow at specified sampling time steps. The group
of agents is considered as being a group of autonomous agents which exchange data but ultimately
make their own decisions based on the received data collected during an area coverage mission. In
addition to the probability map, each agent in a multi agent system transmits its position
information to its neighbours and receives the same information from them. The agents possess the
probability maps (made possible via time varying density function) of targets

Paleolithic Vs Neolithic Research Paper
I would prefer living in the Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era.
One main reason is that the Paleolithic men were much healthier than the Neolithic men in the
ways that, Paleolithic men were foragers and they moved their food which led them to not staying
in one spot permanently. This means that sickness and diseases were not easily passed on. Unlike
the Neolithic men who did have permanent settlements and had illness passed around quite easily.
Also it says in the passage Old Stone Age vs. New Stone Age that The adoption of grains in the
Neolithic era coincided with a shortening of stature, thinner bones and crooked, cavity ridden teeth.
Since Paleolithic Era did not domesticated grains they only ate wild grains they were taller, ... Show

They created created language by using symbolic language (using symbols or sounds to
communicate) and collective learning (telling other people about your discoveries so they can use
it and the information does not die). Although the Neolithic man did create some very important
discoveries too (the wheel, calendars, time keeping etc.) they would not have able to make these
discoveries without language.
Another reason is that the Paleolithic people had a healthy balanced diet. The Paleolithic people
had a main diet of meat, fruits, vegetables, and wild grains. Whereto the Neolithic people had a
main diet of wheat, yams, corn, rice, and maze. As we ve seen in paragraph one grains make your
bones thinner, decrease your height, and make you have crooked teeth. Therefore the Paleolithic
people had a better balanced diet which allowed them to be healthier.
My fourth reason is that you are a farmer (Neolithic) and one year you have bad weather and
your crops don t grow. Now you have very little if any food. That doesn t just effect a couple of
people though. That effect your whole clan or colony which can be a lot of people. Whereto if
your a forager (Paleolithic) and you don t have a permanent settlement then if one year you have
bad weather you don t need to stress about it because you can move like you do anyway for your

Arabella Fight Club Essay
he Fountain of Youth s story has been told many a time throughout the years. This however, is
the very best of them all, full of romance and royalty, peasants and friendships. It is said to have
taken place during the year of King Gilbert s reign. Prince Alexander was the King s only son,
and from a very young age, he was very good at all he did, with very little help from tutors or
private instructors. Though he had only one friend, his nursemaid, Clemence s, only daughter, and
her name was Arabella. Arabella was born just after the princeno longer needed her mothers
services, so he never saw the two together. Arabella was just about 6 years younger than the
Prince, and certainly much farther down on the social pyramid, but no one cared how close they
were, maybe because very few people knew.
Arabella was a parlor maid for many years. The job of a parlor maid was a simple one, she was
expected to spend her time and attention to the drawing room and dining room, helping the
waitress in the pantry, or keeping the library and drawing room in order, and of course she had to
be easy on the eyes for the male guests pleasure and the female guests disdain. As a parlor maid for
the royal family, she didn t have much to do unless guests were over, and Queen Joyce, didn t like

How Did Ashoka Spread
As a leader of his people, Ashoka used the teachings of the Buddha to create a basis of social
behavior that focused on interactions and relationships between people of the time, which helped
Ashoka become a respected leader in ancient India. Buddhism, in its origins was spread by the
Buddha himself, and it was created on a sense of self reliance and discipline that is not apparent in
the teachings of Ashoka. This isn t to say, however, that Buddha wouldn t approve of Ashoka s
teachings. Ashoka wanted to spread the ideas of Buddhismto the people of India, but he simply did
not have the ability to spread these ideas with so many people for it to be efficient, so he created
his own interpretation of the beliefs of Buddhism called the Dhamma that was then spread around

The Need For Intravascular Catheters Are Evidently Clear
The need for intravascular catheters are evidently clear in modern day medical practices especially
in the intensive care setting (ICU). Despite the necessity of such catheters, their use places patients
at risk of developing complications such as infections, thrombophlebitis, endocarditis and a variety
of other metastatic infections. In the hospital setting an estimated 250,000 bloodstream infections
(BSI) associated to CVC occur annually, thus the need for proper aseptic skin care. The widely
used antisepticfor cleansing CVC sites in the United States was iodine. However several studies
have shown that cleansing CVC sites with 2% aqueous chlorhexidine gluconate lowered BSI when

According to the CDC an approximate 80,000 BSI cases occur in ICUs annually in the United
States, with an estimated 250,000 cases in hospitals as a whole. The mortality rate associated in
this case is around 12 25% per infection, causing a cost of $25,000 per episode for the health care
system. In this writers facility aseptic techniques are emphasized, including the use of chlorhexidine
instead of iodine. The impact of BSI via CVC are not only patient centered but cost the healthcare
system an approximate $34,508 $56,000 per case to treat each infection.
Stakeholders
Members that would be included on the team to prevent CVC associated BSI are the physician
whose responsibility is to ensure proper procedures and practices are carried out during insertion,
such as aseptic techniques. After insertion of the CVC then it is the job of the radiologist to ensure
proper placement of the tube using X Ray imaging. After insertion and confirmation of placement

Computer Network Management
The Basics of Network Management
In the computer world, networks are the primary means of inter computer communications. The
building and maintenance of a network is the responsibility of the network manager. The network
manager must have the expertise to design and implement an appropriate network for his client.
The proper design of a network is based on more than a few principles. However, the job of the
network manager encompasses more than simply building a useable network, although that is the
end result. The network manager must have many characteristics in order to fulfill his job. After
years of training, a network manager will know how to select the proper network topology for the
client. After some investigation into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Useful information includes: which departments need data storage and how much, which
departments communicate with one another, how much data is exchanged, are there any special
periods of high data transmission, such as peak periods and large batch transmissions. After
evaluating what each department needs, a design can be drawn. The throughput must also be
compared with the physical distance in order to determine the proper transmission media. The ever
popular copper wire is best for short inter office communications. For cross country communications
a better choice would be fiber optics. Another candidate for cross property communications is free
space light or radio. After building the network, a series of objective tests must be conducted. The
client needs to be certain that the network design will fulfill the company s needs. If there were any
mistakes in the plan for the network, they may not surface yet. Sophisticated tests of the network
will help the network manager to troubleshoot any problems. Once all glitches have been corrected
and the client is satisfied, the network is complete. At this point the network is ready to be
managed. The elements of the network are the equipment, databases, and connections. Insuring that
these components work seamlessly together is the function of network management. Proactive

The One Child Policy Restricted Citizens Of China
The one child policy restricted citizens of China to one child per family. This family planning
policy was created in 1980 to help a growing population. The effects of this policy included millions
of forced abortions and sterilizations (Wong 2). In 2013, the policy was relaxed because the drop in
population created an age gap in China. Also the ratio of males to females became unequal. There
were up to 116.9 boys for every 100 girls in China (Luo 2). The old continuity was a one child

How to avoid the spread of the disease
A vaccine containing a weakened version of the bacterium has been produced, called Bacille
Calmet Guerin (BCG) to prevent the spread of TB. This is often given to people aged 16 35 and
those more likely to catch the disease, i.e. people travelling to, and staying in, countries where the
infection is more likely to occur, healthcare practitioners, homeless shelter workers and immigrant

Whilst working with an active TB patient, the spread of this disease can be easily avoided by
washing hands, before and after a task is completed, wearing the appropriate P.P.E. (personal
protective equipment), and making sure it is clean, never using needles more than once, and
correctly disposing of them. Surfaces should be wiped down with disinfectant, before and after

Description of Ambulatory Care and Hospitalization Care Essay
As early as the 1990 s, outpatient care only made up for 10 to 15% of a hospital s total profits,
compared to inpatient care. Since the start of the twenty first century, this figure has increased to
approximately 60%. This shift in healthcare has been occurring in different medical organizations
such as university medical centers, local hospitals, for profit chains, and not for profit suppliers.
The increase in outpatient services compared to inpatient has been showing no indication of
slowing down. The main reason for the development in outpatient care is because of all the medical
advancements in techniques and technology that allow for patients to be treated less invasively.

The development of walk in clinics at the local CVS Pharmacy or Wal Mart are part of the
freestanding facilities that provide people in communities easier access to treatment without going
to a hospital ED. Additionally, the evident convenience aspect of bringing full emergency services
to communities, freestanding centers may be less likely to resort to hospital admissions as an outlet
to drive throughput. The incentive for ASCs is to emphasize volume and higher rates, while
hospitals are considered to regulate utilization. Looking closely, the main purpose originates from
ASCs lower cost profile compared to hospitals with the additional benefit of the likely to evade
inpatient expenditure. Within ambulatory clinics, there are three levels of service that are
preformed based on the type of diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Level one ambulatory
service is considered an option to inpatient care with both patient and service parts that corresponds
with the point of intensity. The role of this level is to offer alleviation from acute symptom
reducing mechanisms such as less severe residential constituents such as the family treatment home

A Long Way Gone Argument Essay examples
Eddie Salcedo Mr. Stone December 5, 2012 7th period A Long Way Until The End of This
Essay The author of A Long Way Gone argues against boy soldiers but also against the loss of
innocence. Beah s parents are burned alive by the rebels; this is the first step towards his
animosity towards them. In his story he talks about snorting brown brown, shooting men and how
he was slowly corrupted by the men around him, turning him into a machine. It tells the story of a
world as horrendous as any imagined by the darkest of fiction writers. However, upon completion
of the book, I have realized that I have made a journey from darkness to redemption along with the
author. Look in the book where the UNICEF officials are dehumanizing the... Show more content

Despite the violence caused by the children, one of the staffers, Nurse Esther, becomes interested
in Ishmael, learning about his childhood love of rap music. As a gift Esther gets him a rap
cassette and Walkman, when she takes Ishmael and his friend Alhaji to the city. It is through
this connection and his numerous counseling experiences with Esther that Ishmael eventually
turns away from his violent self and starts to heal from his mental wounds. The second part of
the book takes an uncompromising look at the difficulties this entailed for the boy soldier and
his peers, who for a long time resist the most determined efforts to restore their humanity, their
anger at having been taken from their family. Children are meant to be protected from violence
and war. They are extremely vulnerable both physically and psychologically, to abuse and
misguidance. They are easily influenced by those around them because they are young and
incapable of forming independent opinions. Adult soldiers at Ishmael s base were snorting
brown brown and smoking marijuana, Ishmael, as naive as any child would be, was influenced
by these people and looked up to the adults as role model and leader and so he began to do it as
well. I took turns at the guarding posts around the village, smoking marijuana and sniffing brown

How Did Steam Engines Change People s Lives
Steam engines were invented on February 21, 1804 by Richard Trevithick. The locomotives use
steam as a power source. These locomotives use combustible material such as coal, wood, and oil
as fuel. Water and fuel supplies are usually on the locomotive or in a trailer behind it. Steam
engines were first invented in great britain in the 19th century. It was mostly used for railroad
transport until about halfway through the 20th century. In this paper I will explain the history of
steam locomotives and how they changed people s lives and America as a whole. One great
completion of the 19th century was the transcontinental railroad. There are two railroads that make
up the railroad, the Central Pacific and San Francisco, California and the

A Direct Link Between Carbon Dioxide And Global Warming
Damon Matthews, a professor in Concordia University s Department of Geography, found a direct
connection between carbon dioxide and global warming. Matthew s studies show that same global
temperature increase, regardless of when or over what period of time the emission occurs. The
effect of adding more carbon dioxideis predicted in the theory of greenhouse gases. Swedish
scientist, Syante Arrhenius, first proposed the theory in 1896, based on earlier work by Fourier
and Tyndall. At the same time, many scientists have reached the same conclusion. If we increase
the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth s temperature will increase. Energy
is absorbed from the sun in the form of visible light and ultraviolet radiation. The earth then
releases some of this energy as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere captures
some of this heat, then re emit it in all directions. During this process, carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases keep the Earth s surface 33 degree Celsius warmer than it would be without
them. According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by a scientist at NASA s
Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the average global temperature on Earth has
increased by about 0.8 degree Celsius. Since 1975, two thirds of the warming has occurred at a
rate of roughly 0.15 0.20 degree Celsius per decade. Our lives involve the emission of theses
dangerous greenhouse gases (Bushnell 25). Carbon dioxide has increased to

The Theme Of Inequality In Chloe Neill s Veil
As humans, our natural instincts for categorization give us a sense of safety a sense of being in
control. Even from the beginning, children are trained to understand which blocks fit into which
slots, and where things are supposed to be put away. We find satisfaction in categorizing things
even when we don t realize we are doing it, such as with people. Thus creating the recent raging
topic of inequality. Not to say inequality has not been present since the beginning. However, it is
only in relatively recent times that people have started to stand up and fight for their well
deserved rights. These people are enervated by the lines drawn between themselves and others.
Most of life consists of stereotyping others to understand them with a simple and formative
ideal, but people are much more complex than a single idea. We should not be afraid of the
differences that stand between one and another, but rather recognize it and use it for mutual
growth. By understanding why we are different, we will no longer live in fear. In Chloe Neill s
book, Veil, she combines the perpetual workings of this fear and how the people affected by it
react to its power. Akin to the inner workings of America, we all follow the same universal ideal.
Freedom. However, there is a percentage of us that are blindly content with their own freedoms
while forcing the repression of another. In spite of my enjoyment of the moral message the further

DBQ 2: The Reasons for Declaring Independence in 1776 From previous instruction in American
history at earlier grade levels, students often have in mind the idea that unfair taxation and trade
restrictions caused English colonists to declare their independence. This DBQ asks them to
consider such economic factors and weigh them against an array of other possibilities, some of
which are suggested in the question. Students must consider factors and provide a rationale for
which of these sets of ideas is of greater importance. Once again, the results of students analyses
will differ, but a convincing rationale must be provided in each essay. Some good background

Incarnational Apologetics Essay
In reaction to the article on Incarnational Apologetics, how does this approach impact the way
evangelism is taught and acted out in daily life? How do you balance incarnational and
informational approaches to evangelism? Is there a connection? In addition, based on McRaney
Chapter 8, how would the distinction between Informational and Incarnational approaches to
evangelism relate to the barriers you have in witnessing? For instance, do your struggle relating
to people on an incarnational level; or are you afraid on an informational level that people might
ask a question that you cannot answer? What barriers need to be removed in your life in order for
you to balance these approaches? Respond in 225 words. Be VERY thorough,... Show more content

The approach of this article with today evangelism deals with the counterfeit faith of some people
proclaiming Jesus as their savior. However, if this faith does not show evidence by transforming
their lives, then does not deserved to be called saving faith. Such transformation has to show a
change on their behaviors. This does not stop there. A true Christian need to perform daily self
examination of its own testimony. Another false gospel is to separate incarnational from
informational apologetic. They go hand in hand as an absolute truth of Jesus Christ in
evangelism. Some would have us believe that incarnational apologetic is not necessary in our
society. But, they stand very far from the truth. Both incarnational and informational apologetic
are interlaced and important tools for our daily life. The practical application is to be able to
balance both terms in our daily life. What I m trying to say is that we should view it as a daily
self examination to authentically show the love of Christ in once life. In fact, the will of God
has never been that his children live under a colossal failure day by day due to this counterfeit
incarnational apologetic way of leaving. On the contrary, John said, for He who is in you is
greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). So, the connection between the two terms is very
clear. Therefore, God s message to us has not changed a bit. It remains

The Arabian Nights; Its Influence on Western Society
There is no one particularly known the writer for The Arabian Nights. The story has made itself
appeared since anyone can ever remember. Historian said that The Arabian Nights is a collection of
stories from whole lot different countries. It was stated that originally the stories came from India
and Persia, however then the story was translated into Arabic language. Ever since then, Arab s
culture and their own stories were added to make stories in the Nights become an enjoyable,
beneficial and culturally based folktales.

what Heather Glen said about the Nights inclination in Bronte s works, maturing conception of

German for instance, during late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, there were massive

of the Nights, Burton s English Arabian nights and many more. They were distributed in a lot of
ways in German at time particular time. Because technologies were started to be introduced,
images and colour illustrated Nights targeted for juvenile were published. They were printed out
with fancy cover that would attract not only juvenile but all sorts of readers since those types of
publications were new at that time. Readers were also turned into spectators in the early 1920s
when cinema started to operate in German. Stories, settings and narratives taken from The Arabian
Nights were huge at that time as it has influenced the society . Sicily in Italy was also included in
the culture that was inclined towards the influence of the Arabian Nights. According to Novellino,

Drying Is A Mass And Heat Transfer Process Essay
Chapter 1 : Introduction
Drying is a simultaneous mass and heat transfer process that converts a liquid, solid or semi
solid feedstock into a solid product having lower moisture content. This is usually done by
applying heat to evaporate the liquid into a vapor phase. Sometimes drying takes place below the
triple point of the liquid to be removed and the solid phase is directly converted to vapor phase via
sublimation as in case of freeze drying. [1]
As drying must involve a phase change of the liquid to be removed, it is considered as one of the
most energy intensive unit operations. This is due to the high latent heat of vaporization, as well as,
the inefficiency of using hot air as the most common drying medium. Hence, the operating cost of
dryers represents their major cost item.
Drying is an important process in many fields such as chemical, agricultural, ceramics and
pharmaceutical industries. It may be done to have free flowing solids that are easy to handle, to
facilitate the preservation and storage of different materials, to reduce the transportation costs or to
achieve desired quality of products. [2]
Regeneration of adsorptive beds is an important drying application. The operation of such beds
includes three periods. During the first period adsorption takes place till breakthrough. This is
followed by steaming period where live steam is blown through the bed to remove the adsorbate
from the solid desiccant. In the third period; regeneration period, the hot, moist

Heterophile Isolation Lab Report
Heterophile isolation
Polymorphonuclear heterophils were isolated from normal chicken using a modification of
previously described procedures(Andreasen et al., 1991; Brooks et al., 1996). In brife ,whole
venous blood was collected in sodium citrate (0.129 M; pH 6.5; 9:1,v/v). The blood was diluted
in RPMI 1640 (1:1) on a Ficoll Hypaq gradient . After centrifugation at 400 g for 30 minutes, the
plasma and the mononuclear cell layer were removed, and contaminant erythrocytes were removed
by hypotonic lysis. Hetrophils were counted in a Neuber chamber, and the viability of the cells
was determined by Trypan blue dye exclusion. Purity of live neutrophils was 94% following this
procedure. Phagocytosis and killing of opsonized bacteria by heterophils
Phagocytosis and killing of opsonized bacteri were checked by a colorimetric assay according to
previously described procedures with some modifications (Fijalkowski et al., 2012; Mehrzad et

The leopard seal is one of six species of seals in the Antarctic. They can get up to 1230 pounds and
fall anywhere between eight and twelve feet long. These large muscular animals have dark grey
backs, and spots scattered among their light grey stomachs and throat. They get their name, leopard
seal , from their impressively long sharp carnivore like teeth. Although their front teeth are sharp,
their back teeth lock together to help them catch krill. Their appetite mainly consists of penguins,
fish, squid, and krill, though they will prey on other seals. Although the leopard seal is considered
the most ferocious seal in Antarctica, they will play with the penguins in a friendly manner. When
they are not playing with the penguin they will grab

  • 2. Mcdonald s Stock Symbol Or Stock Ticker The name of the company I decided to research for my project is Mcdonalds. The Mcdonald s stock symbol or stock ticker is MCD and this company trades in the New York Stock Exchange. The McDonald s headquarters complex, McDonald s Plaza, is located in Oak Brook, Illinois. The business began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. The present corporation dates its founding to the opening of a franchised restaurant by businessman Ray Kroc in Des Plaines, Illinois. Ray Kroc later purchased the McDonald brothers equity in the company and led its worldwide expansion, and the company became listed on the public stock markets ten years later. McDonald s restaurants are found now in 118 countries and territories around the world and serve 68 million customers each day. McDonald s operates over 35,000 restaurants worldwide, employing more than 1.7 million people. As you might have guessed, a company as large as Mcdonalds has a ton of corporate level executives. The chairman of the board of directors for Mcdonald s is Andrew J. McKenna. Andrew James McKenna was born in Chicago, Illinois on 17 September 1929. McKenna graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS degree in Business Administration and Marketing, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from DePaul University College of Law. • 3. TOK Knowledge Essay The claim Knowledge is nothing more than the systematic organization of facts, has many flaws in its implications. All of the knowledge that we gain as ToK knowers cannot be considered infallible fact. The term fact implies that the statement or claim can be reinforced with substantial evidence and can be proven, and we have learned that almost any information can be considered knowledge, no matter how subjective or specific the information is. Given that an individual is defined by having a specific and unique way of thinking and perceiving the world, most of the knowledge gained in several different Areas of Knowledge are heavily dependent on the perspectives of the individuals under examination. Both the Areas of Knowledge of Ethicsand Human Sciences have many ambiguities when it comes to organizing and legitimizing this data. This leads the knower to ask, What makes information factual in terms of ToK knowledge? It can be proven through Ethics and Human Sciences that knowledge is not the systematic organization of facts, but the systematic organization of collective data to show trends and patterns. Ethical boundaries and impressions are subjective to every individual, and the public ethical boundary must be based off of the accumulative average of the environment. There is not a factual This is right vs. This is wrong because no single human being has the authority to make such a statement. In fact, it is this basic ethical disagreement that has led to ... • 4. Understanding the Motivation off Alcibiades Alcibiades was a highly motivated individual with a drive to gain power by any means necessary. Alcibiades upbringing conditioned him, one might say entitled him, to power and influence, and his self serving actions had the sole objectives of surpassing his predecessors and achieving glory. To understand the motivation of Alcibiades, we must look to his upbringing and character to examine his sense of entitlement. Alcibiades was born into an aristocratic Athenian family so he would have been pro oligarchy; he was the son of Cleinias (Thuc 5.43) who was slain at the battle of Coroneia (Plut. Alcibiades 1). After the death of his father, Alcibiades was placed under the guardianship of Pericles (Plut. Alcibiades 1), who was leader of the state and the most influential man of his day (Thuc 1.127). The connection that Alcibiades shared with Pericles, enabled him to enjoy the company of influential figures throughout Athens, and consequently; they desired him. It was said, many well born men were swarming around Alcibiades and seeking his company (Plut. Alcibiades 4), being held in such high regard by the elite would have boosted his sense of self importance, gained him influence and bring about great personal fame (Thu. 6.16). Alcibiades was a pleasure seeker who surrounded himself with admirers that enthralled him with flattery and favors (Plut. Alcibiades 4), these indulgences soon lead to him rebelling against anyone who would try to influence or admonish him (Plut. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Common Themes In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron Research Harrison Bergeron In Kurt Vonnegut short story Harrison Bergeron , he shows a theme where people are perfectly equal by normalizing everyone to the point of no freedom for the talented. The story tells a tale that warns Americans of the dangers of creating a truly equalitarian society in which its citizens sacrifice their individuality and freedom to the government in order to create a place where all men are created equal. Equality is a beloved principle enshrined in America s Declaration of Independence in the phrase All men are created equal, but Vonnegut suggests that the ideals of egalitarianism can be dangerous if they are interpreted too literally. One of the points that Vonnegut show is when the government is given far too much power and due to the handicap radio the people are passive and ignorant. The... • 6. Present Day Climate Change Many people think that present day climate change is similar to paleoclimate change, but this is only true when looking at the effects of climate change, the trends in temperature, and the trends in greenhouse gas levels, which have all stayed the same. By applying the principle of uniformity, we know that many of the current processes, such as plate tectonics happened in the same way in the past. In order to use climate proxy records, we have to apply this principle to be able to compare the data about the current and past environment with equal weight. For example, we assume that the ice cores reacted the same way to changes in air composition and temperature in the past, such as the mid Cretaceous, as they do today, so that we can make fair statements of whether or not the air composition and temperatures have changed or stayed relatively similar. We... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the mid Cretaceous, coral reefs were found in abundance near 5 to 30 degrees polewards. Today, we can find them only from 5 to 15 degrees polewards, and there are also very few of them at those locations. In the past atmospheric aerosols had natural causes such as sulfur and water vapor from volcanoes, but today most of the aerosols put in the air is smog. Most of this smog is due to humans burning coal and driving vehicles everyday in such large numbers in multiple places throughout the world. Additionally, in the mid Cretaceous volcanic activity was the main contributor of atmospheric COв‚‚, but today the main COв‚‚ emitter is the burning of coal, and also fossil fuels. • 7. Analysis Of The Novel Mister Pip In my opinion a novel has to capture the reader s attention in the first two pages and hold that same attention throughout the whole journey for it to be a novel that is worthwhile reading. Lloyd Jones literary style throughout the novel Mister Pip is captivating, compelling, grotesque and enlightening all at once. Through the various personalities and explorations of each characterand through back stories that unfold through flashbacks and story telling, Lloyd Jones lures the reader into the story. When readers express their fondness for a novel it is generally because the first few pages reel them in and intrigues them to learn more about the story to come. Lloyd Jones opens the novel with a detailed description of one of the main characters Mr Watts. By starting the book with Everyone called him Pop Eye. (page 1) creates a mystery about who Mr Pop Eye and Mrs Pop Eye could be and why they are so important to be the introduction to the novel, this gives the impression that he is a major key character to the plot of this novel. It is also the introduction to Bougainville and the time of place that the reader is taken to. We learn that Papua New Guinea is rich with copper and that most of the men on the island have moved away from the villages to work at the mine and the women and children are left to look after the village with the exception of a couple of older men that would be able to do the more difficult jobs that women couldn t do such as, Gilbert s father ... • 10. Finland And American Education System In the 1970 s, Finland didn t have a spot at the top of the education chain; in fact they had a poor education system (NEA). Finland has changed their education system over the past 35 years to make it better. They have changed their education system to become successful. When looking at the American educationsystem and the Finland education system there are obvious differences between the testing, the paths for the students to take, the time management during school hours, and the classroom environment. The differences between Finland and American education systems start with the youngest students. Finland students start school at a later age than American students. In Finland their students don t start school until they reach the age of seven years old, where as in America the students start school when they reach the age of five. Finland also doesn t focus on testing their younger students. Instead, they focus on play and teaching their younger students how to understand their way of think and learn. Finland doesn t start testing their students until they enter the fourth grade, around the age of twelve. In America the testing starts when some students enter pre kindergarten. In America the Bush era law requires that students in third through eighth grades take tests on their reading and math skills, then re test again in high school. • 11. The Legend Of King Arthur King Arthur King Arthur was one of Britain s and Wale s most influential literary figures from the early 800 s. Through the ages more caught on to these Arthurian Legends, and they began to embrace them as part of their culture. Some believe that he is only a legend, yet others believe that there is even an Arthur living among us today. While growing up, Arthur was oblivious to his heritage. From becoming a King at the age of 16, Arthur showed courage and strength in the darkest of times. This is why King Arthur, a mythological legend, was a brave warrior and man at heart whose betrayal and death influenced today s society through literature, art, and even on screen productions. There are many legends of King Arthur s life, yet there is little knowledge of his childhood. Although Arthur was a king, he did not have the same upbringing as most noblemen and women. His father, A warrior King named Uther Pendragon the ruler of Britain. With magical help from his advisor, Merlin the Enchanter, King Uther tricked his rival s wife Igraine and conceived Arthur at Tintagel Castle. As part of the bargain with Uther, Merlin then took the infant Arthur away from Tintagel, to the house of Sir Ector, where he was brought up as a foster son, ignorant of his heritage. ( Legend of King Arthur ) When he was about 16, a sword appeared in a stone. Hearing the news, Arthur went along with his Foster brother, Kay, to England to see this magnificent sword and try to remove it. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Pascal s Wager Rhetorical Analysis Pascal acknowledges that a belief in God s existence cannot be supported by argument or evidence, but claims that religious belief is a rational necessity. This essay will address how Pascal presents his argument, and how it is in our interest to believe in god. I will argue that Pascal s Wager has weaknesses due to its reliance on an overly simplistic judgement, and will contemplate how Pascal may reply to such criticisms. I will conclude with an evaluation that questions why a believer is superior to a disbeliever, and whether one can truly coerce themselves to believe in gods existence. Pascal s Wager is the attempt to justify belief in the Christian God not with an appeal to evidence for his existence but rather with an appeal to self interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pascal s Wager exclusively addresses the Christian God out of an infinite number of possible Gods. With no further information, the laws of probability mean that inadvertently worshiping the wrong God is a practical certainty. Only when the probability of a particular God existing increases does Pascal s Wager become viable, that is, if one God could be proven to have higher likelihood of existing than any other God, Pascal s Wager would represent a clear benefit. Seeing as no god is empirically provable, the most rational decision would be to choose the religion that rewards believers with the best heaven, and disbelievers with the worse hell. In that case we should chose to worship the Invisible Pink Unicorns (IPU) because they have an infinite bad hell and an infinitely wonderful heaven. Considering that this theory cannot be disproven, if the probability is only close to zero we still have infinite gain/loss since infinity times any positive value is still infinity. Hence for anyone constrained by a bias towards a particular God, the Wager will suit their belief. However rationality suggests that wagering solely for the Christian God is not your best ... • 14. Essay Chopin Sonata NO. 3 MUS 404: Keyboard Literature June 22, 2010 Piano Sonata No. 3 in b minor, Op. 58 by FrГ©dГ©ric Chopin Chopin s third sonata is a masterwork filled with pianistic elements, daring harmonies, experimental form, and a wealth of expressivity. In this four movement work, references to other Chopin compositions and influences from fellow composers are found. At the same time, there is a progressive element; it looks forward to the heights which would be achieved by Chopin and later composers. Background Chopin wrote the Sonata, Op. 58 in 1844, several months after the Berceuse, Op. 57. The Berceuse provides inspiration for the slow movement (Samson, Chopin 23). These works were written at a time when Chopin s relationship with George Sand was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was an uninspired composition, a failure, and largely forgotten (Huneker 166). Movement 1: Allegro maestoso The first movement of the third sonata is the most experimental, the one which deviates most from Classical form and harmonies. The exposition, in particular, is more like a fantasy than a sonata. The sonata opens quite promisingly. A descending broken chord followed by ascending march like chords creates the primary theme (mm. 1 4). As soon as this theme is established, it is lost by a transition. The transition (mm. 12 16) is derived from the opening theme. Traditionally, the transition should segue way into the second theme. However, this transition leads to another idea, which is characterized by majestic chords (mm. 17 18). This melodic idea is equally promising; it has the potential to serve as the primary theme which had been cut short. Unfortunately, it only holds for two measures before it is swept away by a descending chromatic scale in sixths. The listener would perceive the slow moving idea (mm. 23 29) which follows as the second theme, if it were not for its fleeting mysteriousness. It provides a contrast to the majestic themes which opened the movement. The harmonic ambiguities, created by the chromaticism, are very progressive for the Romantic era. This chromatic section is only the beginning of a lengthy transition (mm. 23 40), composed of at least ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Peter Pan And Anne Of Green Gables Comparison In today s society, there is a persistent belief that children and adults are fundamentally different. Society has placed a gap between these generations that is evident throughout movies and children s literature. In J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan and L.M. Montgomery s Anne of Green Gables, binary oppositions come into play regarding childhood and adulthood, specifically the difference in imagination and reality. This binary opposition is expressed greatly among the characters in both novels. The children were introduced as possessing a wide range of imagination, however as the novel progressed, as do their age, their imagination gradually diminished to a more realistic view of life. The adults are focused on the reality of life, so much so, that they do not have any room for imagination. • 18. The Conflicts Of Deadly Conflict In Shakespeare s Macbeth Judd Murphy Brenda Polk EN 101 16 October 2017 Deadly Conflicts Poets have always written in their own unique ways that are different from others. All poets have their own style of writing that sets them apart and allows them to appeal to different audiences. William Shakespeare was especially well known and still is because of this amazing ability to write such good plays. Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Macbeth displays several characters who struggle with indecision and internal conflict. The characters who face these struggles are also faced with making tough decisions that have a lasting affect on how the play is developed. The indecision and internal conflict in this play causes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth commit irrational actions and enter an intense state of paranoia. This emotional and physical state that the two characters struggle with is what eventually leads to their downfall. Macbeth s main struggle is his indecision on weather or not he should kill the king. Macbeth s main reason for wanting to kill Duncan was because he wanted to become king himself. In Laila Abdalla s article about the roles of power in Macbeth she says, Macbeth, I contend, illustrates that the kings competing notions of power are a formula for calamity. Macbeth has several things to consider when thinking about killing Duncan such as thoughts of it coming back to haunt him, Macbeth is his host, and since he is noble many people would miss him. These three thoughts replay over and over in Macbeth s head causing him to become a little crazy and have irrational thoughts. The Tragedy of Macbeth has three major internal conflicts that consist of Lady Macbeth pressuring Macbeth into murdering Duncan, Macbeth s feeling guilt after he murders Duncan, and Macbeth losing his sanity after Banquo is murdered. Lady Macbeth encourages Macbeth to harm Dunkan in the play, yet Macbeth procrastinates because he doesn t believe it s the best idea at the time. As time goes on and Macbeth decides this is what he shall do, he kills Dunkan where he can become king. Traveling to Manresa after his recovery, Ignatius created the Spiritual Exercises to help others grow closer to God setting the stage for a new religious order. Pursuing this path, Ignatius received a well rounded education from the University of Paris, attracting new followers, such as Peter Favre and Francis Xavier, and making plans to travel to the Holy Land. However, these plans were curtailed in the shadow of conflict at the Holy Land. Instead, the companions decided it was time to place themselves at the service of the Holy Father by means of the Society of Jesus with Ignatius delivering his first mass on Christmas Eve, 1538 in the Chapel of the Manger in Rome s Basilica of St. Mary Major, 18 months after his ordination into priesthood. Incapable of insincerity, devoid of affection and courageously naturally beautiful. . . . So unlike most women, (Stoddard) Stoddard knows exactly what she is doing. The Morgesons resists the conventionally domestic, passive 19th century feminine ideal and Stoddard purposefully chooses to ignore the previously set paths for a female writer. Instead she chooses to present readers with a narrative that is rich with emotional intensity, physicality, and sexuality. She does this, in order to present us with a character that is on a journey of sexual awakening. Cassandra s varying degrees of hunger in the novel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also most well respected physicians of the time were in agreement that true women felt little or no sexual desire, and that only abnormal or pathological women felt strong sexual desire (Source #2). In fact, being sexually forward in the presence of a man suggested a worrying sexual appetite and is directly in conflict with the notion that a woman only wanted sex in order to procreate and become a mother (Source #1). Being aware of these 19th century conventions, Stoddard would have had a hard time when writing, had she come out and explicitly stated that Cassandra is hungry for acceptance of her sexuality. Thus, it would then have been the question of how could a female writer of that time period cloak the meaning of her writing in a manner that would be accepted while still fighting conventional standards. The obvious choice that is made, is to use hunger as a metaphor for Cassandra s sexual satisfaction and dissatisfaction. This may seem like an odd pairing, however, regardless of if Stoddard is aware of it, hunger and sex and a lot in common. As researchers have suggested, Both feeding and sex are goal oriented behaviors, both produce an advantageous outcome, both are triggered by a similar chemical in the brain and both are something that humans in general struggle to satisfy while remaining in line with society s current standards (Source #6). In this particular drama, death does play a serious role and does possess some of the above mentioned characteristics, but not the stereotypical role associated by many with death; here Death is cast as an obvious servant of God, not the typical servant of evil. Certain uncommon qualities are given to Death in this play as well; Death clearly demonstrates fairness and mercy in his allowance of Everyman to take a companion with him to the grave. Ron Tanner, writing in the Philological Quarterly, illustrates another, borderline, humorous quality in Everyman, specifically Everyman s negotiation with Death: What makes the exchange between Death and Everyman humorous is Everyman s attempts at negotiation. First he asks for an extension of time, then he tries to bribe Death...it is ridiculous to attempt such bargains. This is the end, after all. Now, gentle Death, says Everyman, still hoping to slip away, spare me till tomorrow. The humor here is that Death is anything but gentle or noble: one has only to imagine the ghastly figure of death looming over the now flattering Everyman to appreciate the irony. Everyman s words are doubly ironic since his request for respite has dwindled from twelve years to only one day. (Tanner 1991) While the scene described by Tanner is not intended to be a ... My second concept is Power and the direct connection it has with the ancestors of Moana s people. For generations her family has had the power to control what goes on in the reef. Thousands of years ago, Polynesian people were architects at traveling the seas. Finding new land and providing new voyages for their people. Over time they found New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, and many other small islands. In Moana she is the direct bloodline and a leader of her people, so voyaging is part of their culture. But her father oppressed her not to travel the seas, and never leave the reef. No one went past the barrier reef, not even the chief himself. In Polynesian culture they travel by boat. Over time many Polynesians were scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. In Polynesian culture they take pride in traveling the seas and following their ancestors footsteps. Because of an unfortunate event that happened to the chief he uses his power to oppress his daughter from leaving. Or at least he tried. Another character that uses his power and is the direct cause for the islands to die is Maui. Who is a demi god blessed by the Sea Gods to bring happiness to the world? Since he is Immortal and can t die, Maui has the power to fix anything. But he does something daring which caused Te fiti the God of Creation to be angry and destroys beautiful islands like Moana s. Teka the Lava god which is Te fiti s alternate personality uses her power to vanquish anything in her path. She is mostly upset at Maui for using his powers and being selfish. He loses his magic staff and become useless. As the story moves on, Moana was chosen by the sea gods as a little girl to save her home and land. • 23. The Problem Of Providing Coverage Using A Group Of Mobile... The problem of providing coverage using a group of mobile agents is investigated, where it is desired to minimize the overall coverage metric (service cost) while achieving maximum coverage with minimum actuator energy required by each agent. In addition, a distributed multi agent area coverage control (MAACC) law is then provided which guarantees the convergence of agents to the optimal configuration with respect to the cost (coverage metric) function. A common assumption in all of the coverage control results is that the distribution of sensory information in the environment is known apriori by all agents. The proposed cooperative area coverage control framework is based on two interdependent tasks: (i) online learning of the coverage area and storing of the data in the form of a probability map ; and (ii) utilization of the probability map (which is used as a search map) and other data collected to compute online a positional error trajectory (e(t)) for the agents to follow at specified sampling time steps. The group of agents is considered as being a group of autonomous agents which exchange data but ultimately make their own decisions based on the received data collected during an area coverage mission. In addition to the probability map, each agent in a multi agent system transmits its position information to its neighbours and receives the same information from them. One main reason is that the Paleolithic men were much healthier than the Neolithic men in the ways that, Paleolithic men were foragers and they moved their food which led them to not staying in one spot permanently. This means that sickness and diseases were not easily passed on. Unlike the Neolithic men who did have permanent settlements and had illness passed around quite easily. O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Findand Good Country People illustrate that the inability to see the flaws in one s self lead to substantial consequences, where an appeal to faith... This machine was improved in 1764 by James Watt, a British inventor, allowing it to generate more electricity. Although when the Industrial Revolution started around 1760, farming machines were highly important such as the cotton gin. The steam enginebridged the gap between the north and the south, allowing great technological advancements. In this instance, the steam engine was used in steam boats, allowing people to travel with goods to the northern or southern states. This allowed the southern states to become more agricultural with farming machines, and the northern states to have more organic materials. In addition, until the steamboat was invented, ... • 38. Description of Ambulatory Care and Hospitalization Care Essay As early as the 1990 s, outpatient care only made up for 10 to 15% of a hospital s total profits, compared to inpatient care. Since the start of the twenty first century, this figure has increased to approximately 60%. This shift in healthcare has been occurring in different medical organizations such as university medical centers, local hospitals, for profit chains, and not for profit suppliers. The increase in outpatient services compared to inpatient has been showing no indication of slowing down. The main reason for the development in outpatient care is because of all the medical advancements in techniques and technology that allow for patients to be treated less invasively. Health care organizations are now being compensated in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the evident convenience aspect of bringing full emergency services to communities, freestanding centers may be less likely to resort to hospital admissions as an outlet to drive throughput. The incentive for ASCs is to emphasize volume and higher rates, while hospitals are considered to regulate utilization. Looking closely, the main purpose originates from ASCs lower cost profile compared to hospitals with the additional benefit of the likely to evade inpatient expenditure. Within ambulatory clinics, there are three levels of service that are preformed based on the type of diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Level one ambulatory service is considered an option to inpatient care with both patient and service parts that corresponds with the point of intensity. The role of this level is to offer alleviation from acute symptom reducing mechanisms such as less severe residential constituents such as the family treatment home for children. Level two ambulatory services are set apart by effective treatment; regularly with a rehab or transitional process that is built in to the care plan. The second part of the book takes an uncompromising look at the difficulties this entailed for the boy soldier and his peers, who for a long time resist the most determined efforts to restore their humanity, their anger at having been taken from their family. • 41. A Direct Link Between Carbon Dioxide And Global Warming Damon Matthews, a professor in Concordia University s Department of Geography, found a direct connection between carbon dioxide and global warming. Matthew s studies show that same global temperature increase, regardless of when or over what period of time the emission occurs. The effect of adding more carbon dioxideis predicted in the theory of greenhouse gases. Swedish scientist, Syante Arrhenius, first proposed the theory in 1896, based on earlier work by Fourier and Tyndall. At the same time, many scientists have reached the same conclusion. If we increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth s temperature will increase. Energy is absorbed from the sun in the form of visible light and ultraviolet radiation. The earth then releases some of this energy as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere captures some of this heat, then re emit it in all directions. During this process, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases keep the Earth s surface 33 degree Celsius warmer than it would be without them. According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by a scientist at NASA s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8 degree Celsius. Since 1975, two thirds of the warming has occurred at a rate of roughly 0.15 0.20 degree Celsius per decade. Our lives involve the emission of theses dangerous greenhouse gases (Bushnell 25). • 42. The Theme Of Inequality In Chloe Neill s Veil As humans, our natural instincts for categorization give us a sense of safety a sense of being in control. Even from the beginning, children are trained to understand which blocks fit into which slots, and where things are supposed to be put away. We find satisfaction in categorizing things even when we don t realize we are doing it, such as with people. Thus creating the recent raging topic of inequality. Not to say inequality has not been present since the beginning. However, it is only in relatively recent times that people have started to stand up and fight for their well deserved rights. These people are enervated by the lines drawn between themselves and others. Most of life consists of stereotyping others to understand them with a simple and formative ideal, but people are much more complex than a single idea. We should not be afraid of the differences that stand between one and another, but rather recognize it and use it for mutual growth. By understanding why we are different, we will no longer live in fear. In Chloe Neill s book, Veil, she combines the perpetual workings of this fear and how the people affected by it react to its power. Akin to the inner workings of America, we all follow the same universal ideal. Freedom. However, there is a percentage of us that are blindly content with their own freedoms while forcing the repression of another. The approach of this article with today evangelism deals with the counterfeit faith of some people proclaiming Jesus as their savior. However, if this faith does not show evidence by transforming their lives, then does not deserved to be called saving faith. Such transformation has to show a change on their behaviors. This does not stop there. A true Christian need to perform daily self examination of its own testimony. Another false gospel is to separate incarnational from informational apologetic. They go hand in hand as an absolute truth of Jesus Christ in evangelism. Some would have us believe that incarnational apologetic is not necessary in our society. But, they stand very far from the truth. Both incarnational and informational apologetic are interlaced and important tools for our daily life. The practical application is to be able to balance both terms in our daily life. What I m trying to say is that we should view it as a daily self examination to authentically show the love of Christ in once life. In fact, the will of God has never been that his children live under a colossal failure day by day due to this counterfeit incarnational apologetic way of leaving. On the contrary, John said, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). So, the connection between the two terms is very clear. • 46. Drying Is A Mass And Heat Transfer Process Essay Chapter 1 : Introduction Drying is a simultaneous mass and heat transfer process that converts a liquid, solid or semi solid feedstock into a solid product having lower moisture content. This is usually done by applying heat to evaporate the liquid into a vapor phase. Sometimes drying takes place below the triple point of the liquid to be removed and the solid phase is directly converted to vapor phase via sublimation as in case of freeze drying. [1] As drying must involve a phase change of the liquid to be removed, it is considered as one of the most energy intensive unit operations. This is due to the high latent heat of vaporization, as well as, the inefficiency of using hot air as the most common drying medium. Hence, the operating cost of dryers represents their major cost item. Drying is an important process in many fields such as chemical, agricultural, ceramics and pharmaceutical industries. It may be done to have free flowing solids that are easy to handle, to facilitate the preservation and storage of different materials, to reduce the transportation costs or to achieve desired quality of products. [2] Regeneration of adsorptive beds is an important drying application. The operation of such beds includes three periods. During the first period adsorption takes place till breakthrough. This is followed by steaming period where live steam is blown through the bed to remove the adsorbate from the solid desiccant. In the third period; regeneration period, the hot, moist ...
