Hope Revealed In The Secret Garden
The spell was broken. My uncle learned to laugh and I learned to cry. The secret garden is always
open now. If you look the right way, you can see the whole world is a garden. This quote from The
Secret Garden proves the theme there is always hope to be true. In The Secret Garden, Mary, Collin,
Lord Craven and Mrs. Medlock all seem to be in a difficult time, but they learn in the end that there is
hope. It was lonely in India, and my parents didn t want me. claims Mary as she reflects on her early
life. Mary grew up in India where, like she said, she was lonely and unwanted. When Mary thinks her
life couldn t get worse though, tragedy strikes and Mary s parents get killed in an earthquake. The
orphaned Mary is put on a ship heading to England where she is taken in by her uncle, Lord Craven.
As soon as Mary arrives at the large manor house in the isolated countryside, her life immediately
begins to change. Mary s garden begins to grow . Soon, Mary ... Show more content on

I m going to die. says Collin as he lay in bed preparing for death. Collin is Mary s cousin who was
born a premature baby after his mother fell off of a swing in the garden and went into labor. All of his
life, Collin has been kept in his room in bed, and has been told that he is ill and to be prepared to die.
After Mary arrives, Collin s whole world is tipped upside down. Collin tells Mary the story of his birth
and of how his mother died. After Mary hears the story she tries to convince Collin to try to stand and
walk and play outside. Collin refuses until one day, when Mary pulls the shutters off Collin s windows
and let the light in. After seeing how amazing the outside world is, Collin decides that it is worth the
risk and he comes outside with Mary and Dickon one day. After that one afternoon outside, Collin s
health only gets better. Soon, Collin is standing, walking and playing with Mary and Dickon in the
garden each day. Just like Mary, Collin had hope all along but, he never realized

The Crisis Of The United States
The 2008 so called Great Recession was a time that was tough on a great deal of americans as well as
people all around of the world. The shock was the popping of the housing bubble. After the great
burst, the financial situation of the country began to spiral out of control. Unemployment skyrocketed.
Millions of Americans were laid off. The inflation rate plummeted to an extremely unhealthy amount.
This was strange because the United States had recently spent decades working to lower inflation rate.
They finally received what they wanted and much more. The consumer price index also eventually
crashed as well. A big reason for these crashes were civilian reactions to the bursted housing bubbles.
The United States took several actions to recover from the crisis. They worked at lowering mortgage
interest rates and also passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They also bailed out huge
failing banks like AIG. We took many actions that eventually paid off and pulled us out of the
recession. The housing market had raising prices that economists thought was just steady growth.
However, once the prices began to drop people grew fearful and stopped buying. This totally through
the market off and it crashed. The country from there financially spiraled out of control. The cause for
this bubble and the bursting of it can be attributed to banking that was irresponsible to say the least.
Bankers were handing out to mortgage loans to people with low income jobs and poor credit

D Day Research Paper
D Day was the day when allied troops were deployed on Normandy, France to finally eliminate
german forces from the battle. D Day. Operation Overlord. The Battle of Normandy. The Longest Day.
This invasion is known by a lot names but they all mean the same thing: the invasion of the beaches
code named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. This attack happened on on June 6, 1944 and was
one of the most important battles in World War II. D Day is the military code for the day on which a
particular military operation is set to begin.During World War II, it was the day (June 6, 1944) on
which the Allied forces of Britain, Canada, and the United States invaded the Normandy coast of
German occupied France. Codenamed Operation Overlord, the invasion, and all the preparations
leading up to it, was the most massive amphibious assault in military history. Over 160,000 troops

The Success Of A Business Owner
Being an entrepreneur is about believing in something and standing for what you believe in. The
reasons entrepreneurs start businesses is to be successful as well as to make money. No one ever starts
a business with the intent to fail, however if a business does fail most entrepreneurs learn from their
mistakes and try again. The mentality of successful business owner is an I will not lose attitude that
motivates that person to not accept failure as an option.
Having what it takes to survive and succeed is a core value of entrepreneurs, making it your civil duty
to find solutions to problems people face on a daily basis. In my research I think the main objective of
an entrepreneur, is to change the world in a way that will benefit everyone in one way or another. This
is the entrepreneurs right and clear intention to make sure they are operating from a good intent and
integrity. Entrepreneurs that have achieved a pinnacle of success often ask themselves, How can I
help? or better yet you ask yourself, How can I serve? . These are the the main motivating factors an
entrepreneur needs to create a plan of action.
Any entrepreneur that is successful in business has an instinctive ability to see problems and needs
that people have as an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial capabilities to come up with solutions
and satisfy a person s problems or needs.
Another great example are social media entrepreneurs who

Pros and Cons of Landfills and Incineration
There are different ways Americans can dispose of the 200 million tons of garbage they generate each
year. In the 1930 s people started to use landfills, as opposed to open dumps, which drew insects and
vermin, causing disease. Landfills are made by digging holes in the in the ground and filling it with
waste products and then capped. The government safeguards landfills, and each landfill is exclusive to
the kind of waste it has. This method is controlled and monitored, as is the method of incineration.
Incineration is the burning of solid waste products at a temperature of 850 degrees. There are pros and
cons to each method.
One advantage to using landfills is that is that it separates the solid waste away from where the people
live. Another huge advantage is that landfills use methane extraction systems that collect gas in cells
and used for fuel. There is no shortage in waste products, so that means there will always be an
abundant supply. Landfills can be mined and waste can be reused for fuel. ... Show more content on

However, the pipes below the lined bottom that are designed to catch leachate, which is the run off of
water that passes through the waste and into the soil or underground water, doesn t always catch all of
the toxic substance. The toxins pollute lakes, streams and aquifers. The decomposition of waste also
gives off methane and carbon dioxide gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. If not properly
vented, it could result in an explosion. Another disadvantage is that the landfill will stay the same size
because of the improper mixture of elements for

Brokeback Mountain Essay
Movies can be divided in to so many categories nowadays and there are different reasons why there is
an emergence of these. One reason being that movies evolve with society and this is evident in the
way movies are presented from black and white to colored and now 3D movies. But we must also look
at how the different plots have evolved from the usual light home movies to mafia influenced movies
and now more socially relevant movies. As society evolves, so does our opinions and views on
different ideologies or concepts about life and our surroundings.
In the case of bisexuality, our cultures dictate whether or not we will accept it freely or with a little
opposition. This is most evident in the movie Brokeback Mountain which stirred the ... Show more

This practice is called aretē wherein two individuals seek the excellence that the other possesses and
in the process they are led to a union, even if they are married, that society accepts. Although in the
case of the movie and our society at present, this practice isn t accepted, we can see that people who
lived during that time have an open mind which people should have at present.
The emergence of this movie also shows us that there is an initiative on the part of film directors to
shape society s view on gays. Especially since a lot of people misunderstand them because they don t
take that initiative to see that they only differ in preference and not necessarily in their genetic
makeup. With this in mind it should also be noted that as these directors and other organizations make
those initiatives, people will be more likely to understand and accept others differences and eventually
coexists without prejudice and violence.
According to Heath Ledger when asked about what he can say about the movie, he said, It transcends
a label. It s a story of two human beings that are in love; get over the fact that it s two men that s the
point. This wonderful quote summarizes what everyone should take into consideration. The
bottomline of all relationships should be love. Whether that love would be with a man or woman,
everyone should give that level of respect because no one can dictate who the right one is but

Summary Of March By Geraldine Brooks
March is a valuable novel written by Geraldine Brooks in 2005, which won the Pulitzer in 2006. The
author retells the story of the absent father, Mr. March, in the novel Little Women, written by Louisa
May Alcott. March is described like a sensitive man who leaves his family to join to the war as a
chaplain, facing atrocities which he must survive. Geraldine Brooks also introduces a new character
fiction created from her own imagination, not found in Little Women, who Mr. March haves some
love encounters.
When Geraldine was a girl, about 12 years old, her mother (who she considered as a world s cynics)
advised her to read the novel, Little Women and take it with a grain salt. The Little Women has

Large Scale Rotating Rig ( Lsrr )
UTRC Large Scale Rotating Rig (LSRR)
One of the first rotating turbine research facilities to conduct aerodynamic and heat transfer on blades
was the United Technologies Large Scale Rotating Rig (LSRR). This facility researched the rotor
blades and heat transfer measurements transfer in low speed turbine environment.
The first three rows of the test rig represented a high bypass ratio aircraft engine. The outlying
parameters of the facility are as follows;
This 1.5 stage low speed facility operated from laboratory air conditions at about 1 atm inlet total
pressure and 294 K inlet total temperature with a flow coefficient of 0.78. The experimental turbine
having a 0.8 hub/tip ratio had 22 first vanes, 28 first blades, and 28 second vanes. The model airfoil
chord lengths were about five times full scale hardware chord lengths. The rotor speed was about 410
m/s and atypical airfoil Reynolds number was approximately 560,000 that were typical of high
pressure turbine airfoils. [UTRC]
The overall effect of the turbulence and stator rotor interactions were recorded and studied for turbine
heat transfer analysis. Time averaged loads on airfoil surfaces not being influenced by unsteadiness in
the presence of temperature streaks was a result of research on this test rig.
The unsteady computations in the experiment clearly showed that pressure sides of turbine airfoils
operate at higher temperatures than the suction sides in the presence of non uniform temperature
gradients. The

Epidemiology Of Obesity
Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide and its prevalence is increasing at an
alarming rate (Barness et al, 2007). For thousands of years obesity was rarely seen, it was not until the
20th century that it became common, some much so that in 1997, the World Health Organization
(WHO) formally recognized obesity as a global epidemic (Caballero, 2007).
Overweight and obesity now affects at least 1.7 billion people. With the largest proportion in
developing countries: In 2010, almost 2 billion people of the world s population are overweight (BMI
between 25 and 29.9 kg/m2) and more than half a billion are obese (BMI 30 kg/m2). Using standard
international criteria by 2015, the figure will be nearer 2.3 billion overweight and ... Show more

The increased prevalence of obesity among high income groups in nonindusrialized countries may
have changed as non indusrialized countries become more affluent and obesity becomes more
prevalent in individuals who have low socioeconomic status (Monteiro et al., 2004).
Egypt studied the prevelance of obesity and overweight among their populations and results were
annoying. Salem et al. (2002) found that the prevalence of obesity among Egyptian children was
14.7% and 15.08% for male and female respectively.
In United States of America (USA), the prevalence of obesity was 10% among children 2 to 5 years of
age and 15% among adolescents. When children at risk for obesity (overweight) were included, the
values increased to 20% and 30%, respectively. Therefore, 1 of every 4 patients examined by
pediatricians either is obese or is considered to be at high risk for developing this challenging health
problem (Ogden et al.,

Our Town
Our Town by Thornton Wilder continues to be a timeless theatrical work performed pervasively
throughout the world. This play remains a modern classic due to Wilder s ingenuity in capturing the
quintessential expression of the life cycle. Wilder segmented his play into three acts; each act broadly
encompassing a different phase in a person s life. The play presents the audience with situations
parallel to the ones almost everyone faces during their lifetime. This, in conjunction with breaking the
fourth wall, allows for the audience to feel a part of the performance. The title of the play itself lends
to this feeling, for it is not my town or your town, but it s Our Town. This play emphasizes the idea
that in the grand scheme of things, all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What started out as an elated and upbeat play, becomes a dark and sad reflection on the human
inability to appreciate the lives they live. Emily s death is predominantly the reason the play is so
effective and affecting. The audience sees themselves the most within Emily. Her death reveals the
basic rhetorical purpose of the play, that within the most common events lie the most remarkable
meanings of our lives. In realizing the beauty of the mundane aspects of life can we fully appreciate
the gift we have. Wilder suggests that, just as youth is wasted on the young, life is also wasted on the

The results from the experiment was unexpected and they supported one of the hypothesis formed
since they failed to reject them, but it rejected the hypothesis that Armadillidium vulgares will prefer
glucose water since it is found in its environment. Both of the experiments rejected the null hypothesis
since the Armadillidium vulgares showed a preference for wet over dry habitat and glucose water over
RO water for their habitat according to the chi square and P value calculated. The preference they had
for RO water over glucose was unexpected since glucose is found in detritus (Moriarty, D.J.W., and
Pullin, R.S.V. 1987). It was thought that they would select the glucose habitat since it is closer to their
natural one; however, it might be due to the fact that the glucose in the environment usually undergoes

Sahelian Trading Routes
Sahelian Trading Routes Trade routes played an essential role when considering development in the
Sahel region, given that states in the area have thrived as a consequence of supporting these respective
routes. Slave trade with Islamic states was especially significant in the development of states in the
Sahel region. Trading across the continent facilitated the wellbeing of individuals living in Sahel and
thus created an intriguing contrast between these states and other nations living in the upper and lower
Saharan areas. Trans Saharan trade occurred as early as the Roman Empire and it was actually one of
the reasons why the Romans were able to continue to support the Empire. In large measure, the
prosperity of Carthage in Roman times was due to its control of the trans Saharan trade routes,
through which it received ivory, gold, and slaves (Anton). Even though the Muslims destroyed
Carthage and were partly responsible for the fall of the last thriving city in the Roman Empire, they
did not ignore the area s great potential. Conditions in Sahel continued to improve consequent to the
eight century Mahommedan expansion to Maghreb. Moors and Moroccans focused on taking control
of all trade routes reaching the heart of Africa and traversing the continent. This resulted in large
amounts of resources reaching the hands of Sahelian kings and thus making it possible for their
kingdoms to expand at a rapid rate. The tens of thousands of African states in pre colonial

Impact of War and Violence on Children in A Long Way Gone...
Children exposed to violence within their communities are left with emotions of hopelessness,
insecurity, and doubt. Historical events such as the war on terrorism, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,
and the tragic events of September 11th have had a detrimental effect on the entire nation, including
the children. Although every child is not directly affected by the aspects of war, it somehow has an
emotional effect on all. The involvement of a nation with war affects every individual differently,
whether it is out of fear, anger, doubt, hope, or love. In the short novel A Long Way Gone by Ishmael

The circumstances surrounding September 11th 2001 seem to be too much for a young child to grasp.
At the age of eleven, I remember this day so vividly, but at such a young age I was unable to
understand everything that was taking place before me. Although this day did not affect me directly,
with time I have come to understand that situations as this one affects a nation as a whole. It seemed to
be my first exposure to war in which I could remember. Beforehand, I knew nothing about what
terrorist were and my country fighting in war seemed to be the least of my worries. Over time, I would
learn more about the two. Today, as I grow into an adult I see the effects of current wars on children. I
work in an environment where I come in close contact with children whose parents serve in the
military. Although many of these children have no idea about the purpose of war or the outcome it
may bring, they do know it as the single thing that takes their parents away for months at a time. I am
mindful of the different reactions of these children. The stability in their life is altered with the
absence of one parent being gone for long periods of time. The stability is what helps to build a strong

The Trans Pacific Partnership Is An Asia Pacific Regional...

(Weddle, 2013). It s a giant free trade deal that has been in the process of negotiation for about a
decade. The ultimate goal of the deal is to join countries together through a unified agreement and
make free trade among these counties smooth and painless. The trade agreement covers everything
from tariffs to standards for food safety. If signed, this deal would affect many aspects of the economy.

Since over 95% of American s manufacturing companies are considered to be small, with less than
100 workers, the trade agreement could be a crippling blow to the industry. American jobs will be lost
and American workers will be laid off. Consumers will suffer, business will suffer, and ultimately
America will suffer. Many argue that free trade will be beneficial for the economy, but exactly who is
benefiting? America won t benefit from this deal unless its export is greater than its import. Reports
from 2014 show that the U.S. imported $2.34 trillion in goods compared to exporting $1.62 trillion
(Nash Hoff, 2015). This imbalance created a huge deficit over $720 billion, which is not even close to
being beneficial for the economy or the nation as a whole. The Peterson Institute for International
Economics estimates that the TPP would add $77.5 billion of income to the U.S. economy by 2025
(Miller, 2015). Although this seems like quite a large amount of money, it actually only represents a
gain of about 0.38% over the next decade. Some people believe this trade agreement will cause new
jobs to spring up but, in truth, a trade agreement does not on balance, create, or destroy jobs, it alters
the composition of the workforce (Miller, 2015). The income from the trade agreement wouldn t even
be a benefit to the workforce. A Center for Economic and Policy Research report looked into the
matter and estimated that only the top 10% of workers in

Trotsky Vs Stalin
After Lenin s death in January of 1924, it became apparent that a power struggle between Trotsky and
Stalin had already long been brewing and would soon become far greater. Stalin had quite a different
background than both Trotsky and Lenin. Lyons had explained that Stalin had come from a different
background than Trotsky and Lenin, one where he had never even left Russia. His background largely
contributed to his varying perceptions of Russia and its regime, along with his approach as to how he
would come to power. Lyons wrote, He believed that the Communists had enough to do in Russia
itself. Stalin not only headed the the Secretariat as general secretary but led the Organizational Bureau
as well, which gave him control over the party machinery and personnel (Lyons, 2016, pg. 31). As the

that would allow for him to gain control of the state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

transform Russia into a first class industrial power as quickly as possible. He decided to bring the

instead in crowded shelters, parks, bus stations, and other places not meant for human
accommodation. Many who are unfamiliar with this stigmatizing situation presume there is a simple
solution to this social crisis. Get a job! they say, attributing the homeless wretched situation to
laziness. However, overcoming homelessness is not that simple. Contrary to popular belief, the vast
majority of vagrants do work or try to find work, but due to factors in the economy beyond their
control, they find homelessness nearly insurmountable. [economic aspects?] For many in America,
homelessness is nigh inescapable due to economic impediments such as the availability/affordability
of housing, the discrepancy between the cost of living and low income, and the difficulty in securing a
stable income. One major obstacle in overcoming homelessness is obtaining a home itself. The decline
in the availability and affordability of housing makes living in a secure home a dream for many.
Although there are homeless shelters, public housing, and subsidized housing available, they are
rather limited in space, not to mention typically ranging from substandard to outright terrible
conditions. Many who have tried living in shelters avoid it because there are more problems living in
one than on the street; there are often many problems living in a shelter they report of, such as
overcrowding,

Disparity In Healthcare
As an oncologist at Grady Memorial, an inner city hospital located in Atlanta, Dr. Brawley witnesses
the disastrous effects of healthcare disparity first hand. Healthcare disparities are vast differences in
quality and access to care between socioeconomic classes. health care disparities refer to differences
in health and health care between population groups. Disparities occur across many dimensions,
including race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability status, and sexual
orientation (KFF, 2016). As Brawley describes to us, Grady is a hospital that demonstrates health
disparity at its worst. Brawley describes Grady as a monument to racism, Racism is built into it, as is
poverty, as is despair. (Brawley, 2011).

Why People Should Not Go To Mars
Imagine going on a six billion dollar rocket ship and never seeing your family or friends again. The
astronauts will risk their lives because it is a dangerous expedition and could easily fail if the people

The trip is about eight months long and there is no natural source of water on Mars. There could be a
disease on Mars that s not on Earth and if someone gets it there are no doctors or medicine on Mars.
One of the people could get hurt, for example, someone can receive a huge cut and die from loss of
blood since there are no doctors on Mars. No one knows what will happen if you get a cut on mars the
dust could infect the cut. Therefore people should not go to mars if they don t know how dangerous it
is. The astronauts that go might get dehydrated from not having a natural source of water. They could
extract water from the ground, but the water could have harmful chemicals mars one says they will
store 1500 liters of water in each life support unit . The participants will have to live on what they
brought with them. The mission to Mars is already estimated to cost 6 billion dollars. They would
have to bring their own food and water. To conclude people may die from the lack of supplies.
In conclusion, colonizing Mars is a terrible idea There is no known natural source of water, Once you

Analysis Of There Will Come Soft Rains
The text, There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a robotically controlled
house left standing in a post apocalyptic world. Every day, life continues as normal for the house until
it meets the same fate of death as it catches on fire and burns to the ground, leaving only one voice
behind.
This story made me think about how, even though you may not be there, time still passes on and does
not stop for anybody. Throughout the text, it continues to refer to the time of day it is, and elaborates
on how the day is progressing, like one of the first lines, Tick tock, seven o clock, time to get up, time
to get up, seven o clock! Everything, apart from the fact there is nobody around, seems completely
normal, and a routine is still kept in place. The house continues on as if what s going on is completely
normal, as it knows no different from what it has been programmed to do. The writer makes me think
about how we need to make the most of our time on our Earth. We never know when our last day will
be, and our lives are honestly quite fleeting. I personally know that I don t like or enjoy coming out of
the routine I have set for myself on a day to day basis, although this makes a lot of my days feel the
same in an overall sense. The message about how time won t, and can t, stop for anybody, and how
life is so fragile, makes me think about how, maybe, I am not living to my fullest potential. This is the
case for a lot of other people as well, and is a wide

An Open Campus is a Bad Idea Essay
Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students
have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be
allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb
local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
Truancy can occur among students if an open campus is accepted. If students have the privilege to
leave school for fifty whole minutes on their own, then they have the freedom to not come back. It
would break the trust between students and educators, and harsher rules would have to be enforced on
the open campus rule. Numerous students who decide to ditch the remaining periods would ... Show

Quietness is important to many people doing work in their homes and offices, and this can be
disrupted by groups of students walking around creating a stir. Lunch is possibly one of the most
praised recesses in a day because it is the longest break between work. Students who drive often go to
their favorite restaurants and diners for lunch. They can lead to an increase in traffic in the school and
neighborhood and mostly in the street with other student drivers. These recently inexperienced and
immature drivers are ordinarily involved in acts such as road rage and drag racing. Accidents can
occur with innocent motorists trying to get through the day. Disturbances can also consist of littering.
Students who usually roam the neighborhood and eat lunch do not properly dispose of their trash and
can simply through it anywhere. This waste becomes a displeasing mess and site for others to see what
an open campus can cause.
Numerous types of crimes can be committed if a school allows an open campus during the lunch hour.
Felonies usually occur during times when people are not at home. At lunch, students can have illegal
access to vulnerable houses if they choose to do so when they are wondering around in the streets.
This could lead to a crime increase among a neighborhood, and cause disputes and problems. Citizens
feel safe in their neighborhoods, but crime and robberies can make them feel uneasy. They would need

Thermal Energy Conversion Essay
The demand for an efficient renewable energy source is a driving force in ongoing research. Thermal
energy conversion is one such potential source that is under constant investigation and has endless
avenues of possibility. The two requirements of energy production are efficiency and renewability.
Many possibilities exist for energy production including: Fossil Fuels (natural gas, oil, coal, oilshale),
nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and wastes, hydroelectric. Efficiency of the use of these
resource are directly related to the location and the demand in that location. For example Hawaii is a

There are three types of energy converters producing electricity: closed cycle, open cycle, and a
hybrid system combining the previous two systems. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm surface
water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by the expanding
vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce electricity. Cold
water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open
cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created
is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the
condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture.
Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce
electricity through the use of solar warmed water.
Steam Powered Turbine Engine
Capturing the power of steam is not a new idea but one that has been used for hundreds of years. A jet
of steam can readily do work on an object by the jet propolsion effect of steam escaping through a
small guided hole or by a stream colliding with a system of paddle wheels. Most early steam powered
machines used the principles of the latter. The system of paddles, or turbine, was used to drive a shaft
which in turn could drive any number of gear or belt driven mechanisms. The

Essay On Native American Healing
Native American views on medicine and healing are largely based on the idea that all living things are
interconnected and that the mind, body, and spirit of humans are not to be treated separately. In
essence, spirituality is at the core of the human and must be treated along with any physical ailments
that may arise. Traditional views are based on cultural practices, rituals, and myths from their own
beliefs and customs within the culture. In contrast, Western medicine is highly mechanistic, focusing
on the scientific model to heal and cure diseases in the physical body. These highly differing views on
healing can result in humiliation, disrespect, and embarrassment to Native American people while in a
healthcare environment. Therefore, it is important for medical professionals that work with the Native
American community to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that spirituality has been a long time key component of healing throughout history,
modern medicine refrains from it instead choosing to embrace a more mechanistic view of the body
whereas, in contrast, Native American healing practices embrace spirituality. In fact indigenous
practices consider the spirit an inseparable element of healing, placing importance on the spirit of the
patient, healer, patient s family, community, environment, and even the medicine itself. More
specifically, the healing must take in account the dynamics between all of these spiritual forces as a
part of the universal spirit. In contrast to Western medical view s that focus on fixing unique body
parts in distinct individuals that are separate from each other and their environment, Native Americans
believe that we are all part of a whole that is greater than the sum of parts, and therefore, healing must
be considered within this context (Johnston 131). This sense of connection can be observed by the

High Dopamine Research Paper
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that is extremely important in the functions of movement,
memory, pleasurable reward, behavior and cognition, attention, inhibition of prolactin production,
sleep, mood, and learning (Mandal, 2015). There are consequences of having too much or too little of
dopamine in the body; it can cause several disease conditions such as Parkinson s disease and drug
addiction. According to Dr Anaya Mandal, dopamine is produced in the dopaminergic neurons in the
ventral tegmental area (VTA) of the midbrain, the substantia nigra pars compacta, and the arcuate

It is said to be what makes us human because it makes us smart, able to plan ahead, and resist
impulses (Deans, 2011). Since dopamine is a neurotransmitter, it means that it controls communication
in the brain. Chemically dopamine, is able to tell a neuron to fire off a signal or not, and it can also
modify the signals. Dopamine is extremely old it was found in lizards brains and most all animals
reaching the homo sapiens. Dopamine has elevated levels in the left hemisphere of the brain which is
supposedly because of prenatal neurochemical environment. When a women is pregnant her being
upright helps expose the fetal brain to different elements than other primates, which explains the
higher levels of dopamine in the left side of human s brain than other primates. Over time dopamine
has evolved more and more as we have evolved (Deans, 2011).
We get dopamine through eating amino acid. The amino acid is called tyrosine, and through a
chemical reaction it becomes dopamine. If people don t have dopamine or inefficient dopamine it can
cause mental retardation. Too much dopamine in the wrong place can make you psychotic. Drugs such
as cocaine and methamphetamines can cause euphoria, aggression, and intense sexual feelings

Balloon Angioplasty Essay
1. Introduction Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world accounting for 17.5
million people, or more than 30% of all deaths. Atherosclerosis leads to coronary artery disease, which
is a manifestation of ischemic heart disease [1,2]. When an artery narrows, or becomes blocked,
intervention is required to restore normal blood flow. In patients with multi vessel coronary artery
disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery in generally accepted as a better method due to the
greater risk of developing recurrent ischemic events. However, in those with a single vessel
obstruction, the non surgical procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been
shown to be as effective in treating stenosis [2]. PCI is achieved using balloon angioplasty, which was
first introduced in 1977 [1]. 1.1 Bare Metal Stents (BMS) By the mid 1980 s, bare metal stents (BMS)
were developed to overcome the limitations of balloon angioplasty [1]. Coronary stents are metal
lattices that hold the vessel open, which prevents recoil following angioplasty [2]. They are delivered
using a catheter mounted balloon inserted either in the brachial or femoral artery, which is then
threaded to the site of blockage in the coronary artery. The balloon is inflated, and the stent is released

burnout is, can alter the study by not having a preliminary set of defined terms, and the subjectivity

controlling for work hours made a difference. Self report can also hinder results from participants

To explain this problematic issue the media entities have come up with some questions like; What do
consumers need? Is it a real or false need? Can we come up with a common and definitive set of
universal human needs? What is it that consumers really need? Is it perhaps in order to stay alive?
These questions can lead to different answers that in essence come down to particular human
behaviors. (Colin Campbell 282). One example of human behavior with regards to the food we eat is
that most of the world s population eats more that they really need to maintain proper nutrition and
healthy lives. Another is shown in the types of vehicles we drive. Is it really necessary to drive a huge
4 wheel drive, fuel inefficient SUV around the city or on a commute to work? Furthermore, is it really
necessary to have 50 pairs of shoes? In order to specify some one s needs it is essential to have a
comprehensive knowledge of that person s background and ambitions and their needs and desires. The
media is creating desires that we confuse with needs. (Colin Campbell 280 283). The most effective
ads are ones that we don t even recognize as advertisements. Like ads we see in television series,
news, movies and even on clothing. We are manipulated quickly by common objects, characters, or
ideas that are transformed into things that all Americans desire, hope for, fear, believe the most. (Jack

The Crusades and The Latin Roman Catholic Abbey

through the character s age that Sylvia has a certain innocence that only a young child early in life can

Sylvia thought of all the treasures that she could buy with that wealth. This paragraph contains the
third step in the cycle because of the range of emotions that she experienced and the choices she made.
The third step is all about experiences, trial an error and temptations. Sylvia was no longer

develop certain feelings for the man. The man stayed the night again at the house and all that Sylvia
could think about was climbing the pine tree to find the white heron so she could gain the man s
approval of her. This paragraph is the fourth step in the cycle because of the internal emotions that she
had created. The fourth step is death, psychologically or internally (what you believed about your

Overview of LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK EYE SURGERY Introduction Laser assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is a
popular form of elective out patient surgery that enables individuals with poor eyesight to recover
improved vision, ideally, so that they can discard their glasses and contact lenses altogether
(Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In principle, LASIK consists of a procedure in which a laser is used to
reshape the lens of the eye. It works because the majority of cases of poor vision result from refractive
problems, meaning that the corneal lens of the eye fails to focus light properly onto the retina to
enable clear vision. Generally, this is caused by advancing age because the cornea becomes less
elastic, or by misshapen eyeballs that do not allow the cornea to form the correct shape for optimal
light refraction and vision (Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In most cases, LASIK provides dramatically
improved vision for the patient with a minimum of discomfort. However, there are potential side
effects and complications, some of which can leave patients worse off than before they sought
refractive eye surgery (Sutton Kim, 2010). Critics of the procedure argue that the rate of failure and
complication, despite being low in relation to the total number of patients treated, nevertheless amount
to a large number of patients (Solomon, Fernández de Castro, Sandoval, 2009). Most importantly, they
argue that the failure rate of LASIK would not be considered acceptable in other forms of surgery

All the systems in the human body are vital to our survival and well being. If you take away the

skeletal, muscular, and the reproductive systems. They all work together in harmony and unison to
keep us alive. The nervous and endocrine systems are what control most of the body. The nervous

Without the respiratory system our body would just be an airless lump. The circulatory and immune
systems are two very closely related systems. The circulatory is composed out of blood vessels, the
heart, and blood. The immune system is made up of white blood cells and various lymph nodes.
Basically, most of the immune system is found inside the blood of the circulatory system. The
circulatory system provides the body with blood. It gives the kidneys of the digestive system
something to filter and picks up nutrients from the small intestines. It also picks up air from the lungs
of the respiratory system and provides the brain of the nervous system with blood, along with the rests
of the body. Protection from wounds in the integumentary system is also provided by the circulatory
system which has platelets that aid in blood clotting and forming scabs. The immune system protects
all the other systems from disease and helps them from being attacked by viruses and bacteria. It also
aids the ears of the nervous system with some very protective earwax. The circulatory system provides
us with life fluid while the immune system protects that fluid and the rest of our body. The digestive

Milk, The Main Character Harvey Milk
Adam Locke
COMM 1819: Fall 2016
In the movie Milk, the main character Harvey Milk is shown to be a leader who, while imperfect,
gains a large amount of support in his local community before meeting his tragic end. An ethnographic
approach to the film provides additional understanding of the tragic situation, as well as an objective
analysis of how leadership overcame huge challenges in that period of time.
In the film, Harvey Milk is portrayed as having many leaderful qualities. This is because although he
becomes a voice for the community and speaks on behalf of others, he is also an effective listener. The
concurrent tenet of leaderful practice is the most revolutionary. It suggests that in any community,
more than one leader can operate at the same time, so leaders willingly and naturally share power with
others (Raelin, 2003, p.1). Thus, a true leader inspires others to act, as within the transformational
leadership ideal (Judge Piccolo, 2004), and sees him or herself as working within a situation that
furthers a specific goal and in which they are a servant who furthers a greater cause (Greenleaf, 2002).
For Harvey Milk in the movie, this is especially true. ...servant leadership is an approach focusing on
leadership from the point of view the leader and his or her behaviors. Servant leadership emphasizes

Islamic Women s Roles
Women in the harem were considerably different than the low and middle class women (common
people). The women in the harem included the valide sultan (the mother of the sultan), the hasekis (the
sultan s favorite), the sultanas (the daughters of the sultan), and the rest of his concubines, mistresses,
servants. The role of the mistresses was to entertain the Sultan in the bedchamber, and if any of these
women did not attract the sultan s attention, their role was to serve the valide sultan, the daughters of
the sultan, or they manage the harem and work in any other position in the harem. Unfortunately
during the Ottoman Empire the act of selling and buying women was very common similarly to the
times before Islam. These women brought to the

Essay On We Real Cool
Strong Connection in We Real Cool
As well all know, connections are not easy to come by. Connections are made for resembling one
thing to another. In addition to the resemblance, the poem, We Real Cool , has a strong connection that
is shown by the author that help illustrate the meaning of the poem. In the poem of, We Real Cool , by
Gwendolyn Brooks, there is a satisfyingly strong connection involving the poem, title, and author.
Firstly, to show the satisfyingly strong connection from Gwendolyn Brooks, is the poem. In the poem,
We Real Cool , Gwendolyn brooks uses a part of her background in the stanza. The poem, we real
cool , illustrates a gang of people that like to play pool at late hours. The poems stanza begins with the
word, We , to represent the group of people. Gwendolyn writes, We lurk late, we strike straight. We
sing sin, we thin gin , in the second and third stanza, pointing out the attributes of these people back in
the 1960 s. Furthermore, the second and third stanza also commemorates their life and what they did
to consider themselves real cool, with the help of vivid words that were used to show visual imagery
in the poem, such as left school, lurk late, strike straight, sing sin, thin gin, jazz June, and die soon,
henceforth illustrating the connection between the poem and title. ... Show more content on

The title, We Real Cool , has a deeper in text meaning than just being 3 simple words. Throughout the
poem, the phrase We Real Cool and it s identity, is described thoroughly. The name in essence, tells of
what was to be considered cool back in the 1960 s. The pool players, were the people that most

Compare And Contrast Karl Marx And Adam Smith
Sugandha Shukla
Foundations of Modern Social Thought
Professor Elizabeth Anderson
GAF: Cierra Strawder
Assignment: Response Paper 3
Adam Smith, an advocate of capitalism, believed that all individuals are selfish and by performing to
the best of their capabilities towards their own selfish interests they contribute towards the nation s
collective growth. Karl Marx, on the other hand criticized capitalism and believed that socialism and
communism are society s best chance of maximizing individual happiness. In this paper, I will
compare and contrast the economics theories of Adam Smith and Karl Marx on the lines of labor
theory of value, division of labor, alienation of workers from labor and human happiness and surplus
profit and its social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Marx, division of labor under leads to the alienation of humans from the product of their
labor, from the process of production, from their own identity and their true human nature and from
each other. This is because when distribution of labor happens, each man has a particular, exclusive
sphere of activity which is forced upon him and from which he cannot escape (Marx 185).The first
kind of alienations occurs because the worker puts his life into the object and this means that it no
longer belongs to him but to the object (Marx 87). Marx says that the alienation of the worker from
the product implies not only that his labor becomes an object, an exterior existence but also that it
exists outside of him (Marx 87) because the worker is not producing this object for his own personal
need, but for the wages he will get from its production. The second form of alienation occurs as the
labor performed by the worker is not voluntary but compulsory, forced labor (Marx 88). Marx says
that this can be proved by the fact that when there is no physical or other compulsion, labor is avoided
like the plague (Marx 88). Marx explains the third kind of alienation by saying that labor is one of the
main purposes of life for human beings and the true source of

Compare And Contrast Mcveigh And Rudolph
When it comes to Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski, and Eric Rudolph they have many similarities.
First, they were all survivalist in some way. McVeigh was looking for a lifestyle that was a survivalist
type. Kaczynski lived in a small cabin that had no electricity or running water. His yearly cost of
survival was around $400. Rudolph using his survivalist skills stayed on the run for five years before
he was caught. These three bombers also shared anti governmental views. These three terrorists also
messed up in some way that got them eventually caught. After the explosion, the rear axle was found
in the rumble and on it was an identification number. This identification number lead them to

McVeigh s failing his training made him even more resentful of the government. As his frustration
grew, he wrote news outlets and congressman. Not being heard, he felt the government was too
powerful after their use of force at the Branch Davidian compound. Why do you believe he felt
compelled to act out violently against his country and citizens? McVeigh out out violently against the
government because he felt that they were too controlling and he wanted to weaken it. He wanted to
start a revolution. His clothing was what explained his motives the most. McVeigh viewed the
government as tyrants and the people like himself as patriots. The government being the tyrants had to
die and the patriots had to sacrifice in order to win. What could authorities have done to either predict
or prevent some or all of these attacks? The letters were very revealing when it came to him intentions
and how far he was willing to go. Somebody should have turned in these letters and this could have
been prevented. Ted Kaczynski What may have led him to make his choice? When Kaczynski tried to
love autonomously he wasn t able because industries would destroy the land around him. He finally

Compare And Contrast Medieval Art And Renaissance Art
When we look at the history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, we always like to use the
confinement of thinking and the liberation of ideas to sum up the two, especially in the art, the
medieval paintings are often used in dark colors, deformed three dimensional concept Showing the
real world, and often less a bit human nature. And after the Renaissance, the painting masters are the
opposite of it. I am not here to comment on their good or bad, but from the artistic point of view, to
explore whether a good form of art needs to reflect the community and a wide range of civilizations
The two paintings I exhibited came from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The first is a medieval painting, created by the Italian painter Duccio creation, we can see that his
paintings are characterized by a typical dark tones, because it is the early Virgin image, painting skills

Scandinavian Bronze Man
Although the Scandinavian Bronze Age man was a seaman, the extensive use of navigator features on
the panels is also related to the artists intrinsic curiosity on death. Both the sun cross and the sun
chariot can be seed transporting the people to the sun. This is an extension of the allusion that when
life ended, the individuals were transported to the other world that was far from the current world.
These might also be the initial allusion to the idea that man believed in life after death. Death is taken
to be an even where a man travels to a faraway priest. From other archeological works, the burial sites
for the Scandinavian Bronze Age man have been seen to be made in a ship s shape. It is highly likely
that the extensive representation of ships in the petroglyphs is also denoting the journey of men who
have already died. The earlier section had already identified the ax as a religious tool rather than an
economic activity one. In fact, the religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For every ship, one side, there is the drummer. A drumming man has been denoted in the panels as a
chief for the ritualistic ceremonies. Most of the ships have on the other hand the sun cross. These
ships, therefore, present the entirety of the three realities that were present for the human being in a
funeral ceremony. The drummer on one side represents the community that is remaining on earth. This
person is depicted as reclining from the ship. While he mourns the death of the departed people, he
acknowledges that he is part of that journey. He will, therefore, rejoin the departed ones later. Inside
the ship are those who are already dead. These are the people who are in the journey. They are
traveling towards the sun. The other side of the boat, therefore, represents the afterlife through the sun
cross. The ship this presents a funeral as a connection between the death and the living, all in transit to

Child Abuse And Neglect
When you re a kid you should still have so much hope because you have not seen the tragedies in the
world. Imagine just for a second that before you were even five, you had to take care of yourself. As a
toddler you felt unloved and neglected. Each year 5.5 million children experience this feeling, not just
for a second, but throughout their childhood. Neglect is child abuse, as well as physical abuse, sexual
abuse, and emotional abuse. Child abuse is awful because it causes the child to feel worthless, to lose
trust, and to have serious psychological problems early on in life. Neglect is the most common form of
child abuse. The parent or caregiver fails to provide basic needs for the child. Neglected children are

Sexually abused kids are plagued by feelings of shame and guilt. The child usually feels responsible
which makes it particularly hard for them to come forward. Sexual abuse can lead to self hate and
feelings of worthlessness. This can lead to troubles with future relationships, especially intimate ones.
They easily pull away from touch and are very self conscious. Self hate can lead to a lot of different
psychological problems. Sexual abuse can also lead to PTSD, panic attacks, and even eating disorders.
More than ten percent of adults reported being emotionally abused as a child. They are constantly told
they are no good, worthless, and a mistake. They start to believe it and it hurts them a lot mentally.
Yelling at the child is not an uncommon occurrence. The child gets an earful of all the reasons they are
worthless. They don t know who won t hurt them or who will. The kids don t know if they can trust
anyone to be a positive influence in their life. Emotional abuse can lead to depression and self hate.
Like all abuse, it destroys people mentally. Some kids have already lost hope because of abuse. They
have seen bad in the world, usually coming from someone who is supposed to be one of the most
supportive and loving
Schichtel 3 people in their lives. When talking to an abused child remain calm and avoid denial. Make

The Most Loyal Opposition
The Member of Parliament for Eltham, Peter Harrington, said that after the most recent scandals
concerning the Labour leadership the Opposition has totally lost its way Their role is to be in
Parliament, to discuss Bills, to announce policies, to scrutinize the government, but in reality Labour
MPs occupy their time with leaks to the Press and internal battles . The most unfortunate things of all,
however, is that this absolute absence of the Most Loyal Opposition comes at a time of great
constitutional changes such as the Scotland and Wales Bills, the newly established committee
considering a written constitution. A time shaking Europe and the Middle East. Unfortunately, the
Party in a position often explained as the Alternative Government,

Ifrs Adoption Affects Taxes, The Mergence Or Adoption Of...
IFRS Adoption Affects Taxes The mergence or adoption of the International Financial Reporting
Standards (IFRS) in the United States will affect the taxes a company will pay due to the differences
in IFRS and U. S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). One major hurdle to this
happening is to get the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International
Accounting Standards Board (IASB) to agree on exactly how this will happen. For most U.S.
companies, a major concern is how this adoption of IFRS will ultimately affect the way they do
business, how it changes reporting, and how it will affect the company financially. A real concern is
changing from a rules based standard (GAAP) into a principles based standard (IFRS) used
throughout the rest of the world. From a tax perspective, the focus of this research is to show how
some of the required changes in Last In First Out (LIFO), inventory evaluation (LCM), and revenue
recognition be changed using IFRS.
Last in first out The use of LIFO as an inventory management system is recognized as one of three
management systems and has been accepted by GAAP. However, IFRS does not recognized LIFO as
an acceptable management system. Many advocates of LIFO argue that it provides an accurate
revenue match with expenses since sales reveal the most recent selling prices, then the cost of goods
sold should also reflect the most recent inventory purchasing costs. However, the ending inventory
balances shown on the

  • 3. The Crisis Of The United States The 2008 so called Great Recession was a time that was tough on a great deal of americans as well as people all around of the world. The shock was the popping of the housing bubble. After the great burst, the financial situation of the country began to spiral out of control. Unemployment skyrocketed. Millions of Americans were laid off. The inflation rate plummeted to an extremely unhealthy amount. This was strange because the United States had recently spent decades working to lower inflation rate. They finally received what they wanted and much more. The consumer price index also eventually crashed as well. A big reason for these crashes were civilian reactions to the bursted housing bubbles. The United States took several actions to recover from the crisis. They worked at lowering mortgage interest rates and also passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They also bailed out huge failing banks like AIG. We took many actions that eventually paid off and pulled us out of the recession. The housing market had raising prices that economists thought was just steady growth. However, once the prices began to drop people grew fearful and stopped buying. This totally through the market off and it crashed. The country from there financially spiraled out of control. The cause for this bubble and the bursting of it can be attributed to banking that was irresponsible to say the least. • 5. The Success Of A Business Owner Being an entrepreneur is about believing in something and standing for what you believe in. The reasons entrepreneurs start businesses is to be successful as well as to make money. No one ever starts a business with the intent to fail, however if a business does fail most entrepreneurs learn from their mistakes and try again. The mentality of successful business owner is an I will not lose attitude that motivates that person to not accept failure as an option. Having what it takes to survive and succeed is a core value of entrepreneurs, making it your civil duty to find solutions to problems people face on a daily basis. In my research I think the main objective of an entrepreneur, is to change the world in a way that will benefit everyone in one way or another. This is the entrepreneurs right and clear intention to make sure they are operating from a good intent and integrity. Entrepreneurs that have achieved a pinnacle of success often ask themselves, How can I help? or better yet you ask yourself, How can I serve? . These are the the main motivating factors an entrepreneur needs to create a plan of action. Any entrepreneur that is successful in business has an instinctive ability to see problems and needs that people have as an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial capabilities to come up with solutions and satisfy a person s problems or needs. Another great example are social media entrepreneurs who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Pros Cons Of Landfills And Incineration Dana Merola Professor Muhammad Rehan ENVR1009 16 July 2009 Pros and Cons of Landfills and Incineration There are different ways Americans can dispose of the 200 million tons of garbage they generate each year. In the 1930 s people started to use landfills, as opposed to open dumps, which drew insects and vermin, causing disease. Landfills are made by digging holes in the in the ground and filling it with waste products and then capped. The government safeguards landfills, and each landfill is exclusive to the kind of waste it has. This method is controlled and monitored, as is the method of incineration. Incineration is the burning of solid waste products at a temperature of 850 degrees. There are pros and cons to each method. One advantage to using landfills is that is that it separates the solid waste away from where the people live. Another huge advantage is that landfills use methane extraction systems that collect gas in cells and used for fuel. There is no shortage in waste products, so that means there will always be an abundant supply. Landfills can be mined and waste can be reused for fuel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason being that movies evolve with society and this is evident in the way movies are presented from black and white to colored and now 3D movies. But we must also look at how the different plots have evolved from the usual light home movies to mafia influenced movies and now more socially relevant movies. As society evolves, so does our opinions and views on different ideologies or concepts about life and our surroundings. The emergence of this movie also shows us that there is an initiative on the part of film directors to shape society s view on gays. Especially since a lot of people misunderstand them because they don t take that initiative to see that they only differ in preference and not necessarily in their genetic makeup. With this in mind it should also be noted that as these directors and other organizations make those initiatives, people will be more likely to understand and accept others differences and eventually coexists without prejudice and violence. According to Heath Ledger when asked about what he can say about the movie, he said, It transcends a label. It s a story of two human beings that are in love; get over the fact that it s two men that s the point. This wonderful quote summarizes what everyone should take into consideration. Sahelian Trading Routes Sahelian Trading Routes Trade routes played an essential role when considering development in the Sahel region, given that states in the area have thrived as a consequence of supporting these respective routes. Slave trade with Islamic states was especially significant in the development of states in the Sahel region. Trading across the continent facilitated the wellbeing of individuals living in Sahel and thus created an intriguing contrast between these states and other nations living in the upper and lower Saharan areas. Trans Saharan trade occurred as early as the Roman Empire and it was actually one of the reasons why the Romans were able to continue to support the Empire. In large measure, the prosperity of Carthage in Roman times was due to its control of the trans Saharan trade routes, through which it received ivory, gold, and slaves (Anton). Even though the Muslims destroyed Carthage and were partly responsible for the fall of the last thriving city in the Roman Empire, they did not ignore the area s great potential. Conditions in Sahel continued to improve consequent to the eight century Mahommedan expansion to Maghreb. • 24. Analysis Of There Will Come Soft Rains The text, There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a robotically controlled house left standing in a post apocalyptic world. Every day, life continues as normal for the house until it meets the same fate of death as it catches on fire and burns to the ground, leaving only one voice behind. This story made me think about how, even though you may not be there, time still passes on and does not stop for anybody. Throughout the text, it continues to refer to the time of day it is, and elaborates on how the day is progressing, like one of the first lines, Tick tock, seven o clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o clock! Everything, apart from the fact there is nobody around, seems completely normal, and a routine is still kept in place. The house continues on as if what s going on is completely normal, as it knows no different from what it has been programmed to do. The writer makes me think about how we need to make the most of our time on our Earth. We never know when our last day will be, and our lives are honestly quite fleeting. I personally know that I don t like or enjoy coming out of the routine I have set for myself on a day to day basis, although this makes a lot of my days feel the same in an overall sense. The message about how time won t, and can t, stop for anybody, and how life is so fragile, makes me think about how, maybe, I am not living to my fullest potential. This is the case for a lot of other people as well, and is a wide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. Lunch is possibly one of the most praised recesses in a day because it is the longest break between work. Students who drive often go to their favorite restaurants and diners for lunch. They can lead to an increase in traffic in the school and neighborhood and mostly in the street with other student drivers. These recently inexperienced and immature drivers are ordinarily involved in acts such as road rage and drag racing. Accidents can occur with innocent motorists trying to get through the day. Disturbances can also consist of littering. Students who usually roam the neighborhood and eat lunch do not properly dispose of their trash and can simply through it anywhere. This waste becomes a displeasing mess and site for others to see what an open campus can cause. Numerous types of crimes can be committed if a school allows an open campus during the lunch hour. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three types of energy converters producing electricity: closed cycle, open cycle, and a hybrid system combining the previous two systems. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm surface water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by the expanding vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce electricity. Cold water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture. Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce electricity through the use of solar warmed water. Steam Powered Turbine Engine Capturing the power of steam is not a new idea but one that has been used for hundreds of years. A jet of steam can readily do work on an object by the jet propolsion effect of steam escaping through a small guided hole or by a stream colliding with a system of paddle wheels. Essay On Native American Healing Native American views on medicine and healing are largely based on the idea that all living things are interconnected and that the mind, body, and spirit of humans are not to be treated separately. In essence, spirituality is at the core of the human and must be treated along with any physical ailments that may arise. Traditional views are based on cultural practices, rituals, and myths from their own beliefs and customs within the culture. In contrast, Western medicine is highly mechanistic, focusing on the scientific model to heal and cure diseases in the physical body. Atherosclerosis leads to coronary artery disease, which is a manifestation of ischemic heart disease [1,2]. When an artery narrows, or becomes blocked, intervention is required to restore normal blood flow. In patients with multi vessel coronary artery disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery in generally accepted as a better method due to the greater risk of developing recurrent ischemic events. However, in those with a single vessel obstruction, the non surgical procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been shown to be as effective in treating stenosis [2]. PCI is achieved using balloon angioplasty, which was first introduced in 1977 [1]. 1.1 Bare Metal Stents (BMS) By the mid 1980 s, bare metal stents (BMS) were developed to overcome the limitations of balloon angioplasty [1]. Coronary stents are metal lattices that hold the vessel open, which prevents recoil following angioplasty [2]. • 38. Overview of LASIK Eye Surgery LASIK EYE SURGERY Introduction Laser assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is a popular form of elective out patient surgery that enables individuals with poor eyesight to recover improved vision, ideally, so that they can discard their glasses and contact lenses altogether (Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In principle, LASIK consists of a procedure in which a laser is used to reshape the lens of the eye. It works because the majority of cases of poor vision result from refractive problems, meaning that the corneal lens of the eye fails to focus light properly onto the retina to enable clear vision. Generally, this is caused by advancing age because the cornea becomes less elastic, or by misshapen eyeballs that do not allow the cornea to form the correct shape for optimal light refraction and vision (Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In most cases, LASIK provides dramatically improved vision for the patient with a minimum of discomfort. However, there are potential side effects and complications, some of which can leave patients worse off than before they sought refractive eye surgery (Sutton Kim, 2010). Critics of the procedure argue that the rate of failure and complication, despite being low in relation to the total number of patients treated, nevertheless amount to a large number of patients (Solomon, Fernández de Castro, Sandoval, 2009). Most importantly, they argue that the failure rate of LASIK would not be considered acceptable in other forms of surgery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Milk, The Main Character Harvey Milk Adam Locke COMM 1819: Fall 2016 In the movie Milk, the main character Harvey Milk is shown to be a leader who, while imperfect, gains a large amount of support in his local community before meeting his tragic end. An ethnographic approach to the film provides additional understanding of the tragic situation, as well as an objective analysis of how leadership overcame huge challenges in that period of time. In the film, Harvey Milk is portrayed as having many leaderful qualities. This is because although he becomes a voice for the community and speaks on behalf of others, he is also an effective listener. The concurrent tenet of leaderful practice is the most revolutionary. It suggests that in any community, more than one leader can operate at the same time, so leaders willingly and naturally share power with others (Raelin, 2003, p.1). Thus, a true leader inspires others to act, as within the transformational leadership ideal (Judge Piccolo, 2004), and sees him or herself as working within a situation that furthers a specific goal and in which they are a servant who furthers a greater cause (Greenleaf, 2002). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Marx, division of labor under leads to the alienation of humans from the product of their labor, from the process of production, from their own identity and their true human nature and from each other. This is because when distribution of labor happens, each man has a particular, exclusive sphere of activity which is forced upon him and from which he cannot escape (Marx 185).The first kind of alienations occurs because the worker puts his life into the object and this means that it no longer belongs to him but to the object (Marx 87). Marx says that the alienation of the worker from the product implies not only that his labor becomes an object, an exterior existence but also that it exists outside of him (Marx 87) because the worker is not producing this object for his own personal need, but for the wages he will get from its production. The second form of alienation occurs as the labor performed by the worker is not voluntary but compulsory, forced labor (Marx 88). Marx says that this can be proved by the fact that when there is no physical or other compulsion, labor is avoided like the plague (Marx 88). • 51. Ifrs Adoption Affects Taxes, The Mergence Or Adoption Of... IFRS Adoption Affects Taxes The mergence or adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the United States will affect the taxes a company will pay due to the differences in IFRS and U. S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). One major hurdle to this happening is to get the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) to agree on exactly how this will happen. For most U.S. companies, a major concern is how this adoption of IFRS will ultimately affect the way they do business, how it changes reporting, and how it will affect the company financially. From a tax perspective, the focus of this research is to show how some of the required changes in Last In First Out (LIFO), inventory evaluation (LCM), and revenue recognition be changed using IFRS. However, the ending inventory balances shown on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
