The infamous pair Walt Disney and Ray Kroc have more things in common than you thought. They

Comparative Analysis Of A Few Good Men
A Comparative analysis of Red Reiner s A Few Good Men
It is interesting to see human behavior when put into a difficult situation that may force them to
harm others when they do not want to, but will anyways. It is human nature to always do what is
best for themselves and their safety, but people tend to harm others when they can shift the blame
off themselves for causing them harm. As for example the milgram experiment is a great example
showing people will cause harm under given command. This not true for everyone, but for most
people it is. People will harm others, but kept telling the instructor that they want to stop. The
instructor told them they must keep on going, the first response would be i do not want to
blamed for hurting the person, soon as instructor took the responsibility then the they would
continue to cause pain. A movie that takes a closer look into this situation is A Few Good Men
directed by Red Reiner. Some of the main actors were Tom Cruise who played Lt. Daniel Kaffee
and is a lawyer that is defending the marines in a murder case, Jack Nicholson who played Col.
Nathan R. Jessup is the leader of marines stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Demi Moore who played
LT. Cdr. Joanne Galloway is part of the team with Kaffee to defend marnie in the murder case ,
James Marshall who played Pfc. Louden Downey is the marine who is trialed for murder and
disorderly conduct, and Kevin Bacon who played Lt. Sam Weinberg is the Prosecutor . To quick

Calbuco Volcano Essay
While there was so many different volcanos to choose from I chose the Calbuco volcano because
it was erupted very recently. Calbuco is a 6,570 foot high active stratovolcano located in Los
Lagos, Chile. Its coordinates are 41°19′48″S 72°37′06″W. The closest populated
area to the volcano is Puerto Varas which is located about 23.1 miles southwest of the Calbuco
volcanoas you can see in the google image below. The last time that the Calbuco volcano erupted
was April 22, 2015 and actually erupted for a second time 7 hours later on that same day. Before
that, the volcano hadn t erupted since 1972. Both of the eruptions were about the same, releasing
lava into the air and a mushroom cloud of ash 49,000 feet into the sky. Lighting also occurred,
making it a frightening but beautiful sight to see in the night sky.
Just before the Calbulco volcano erupted, they called for an evacuation and nearly 1,500 people

In the background we see a volcano on top of a mountain, with the tops covered in snow. In the
foreground we see green grass and a couple of trees, and in the middle ground we see what looks
like a grassy hill leading up to fields and fields of trees. The key element of this photograph is the
huge volcano located in the background. This photograph brings us to the Calbuco volcano on a
sunny day. This volcano is located in Los Lagos, Chile.
Most people would seriously question on why so many people throughout the world live in the
immediate vicinity of a volcano, and although we can only see the downside of that, there are
benefits from living so close to a volcano. One of the biggest reasons are the soils close to a
volcano is full of nutrients and minerals which keep the soil very fertile. This happens because of
all of the lava and rock that a volcano releases. This helps soil stay rich with nutrients and gives
opportunities to grow fruit, rice or other

Central African Republic
You cannot have peace without security and you cannot have effective security without peace. In
August of this year, there was an estimate of 400 bodies that were collected across Bangui, the
capital of the Central African Republic. This number was acquired in just three days and it served
as a huge wake up call for the Central Africans. However, it was not long before another revolt that
left twelve people dead, thirty people wounded, and children were not spared. Meanwhile in
Denmark, reports are showing that they are stressing the protections of civil rights and humane
treatment. For this reason, the county of Denmark is at an all time low of violence and
misconducts. The Central African Republicseparated itself from Boganda in December of 1958.
However, all went wrong when Bokassa was elected president and eventually president for life in
1968. Denmark on the other hand went through a terrible slump when under German control.
Innocent Danish people were arrested during World War II. In reaction to how poorly their people
were treated, the Danish government designed a liberal system for all citizens, including inmates.
According to Dr. Robert Winslow, the final revisions were made in 2001 and today the country of
Denmark leads Europe as far as well designed security sectors. Obviously, the Central African
Republic has a very dysfunctional security sector however other countries around the globe such as
Denmark have never been better.

Fdi Of Foreign Investment Law Essay
FDI Institutional Change in Indonesia
The strong growth of total global FDI has increased the need of FDI as a source of external
financing to contribute in host country s economic development. This condition encourages many
countries to perform institutional reform in order to attract larger shares of FDI flows. From the
perspective of investors, they are more concern on the host country s institutional quality when
determining their investment location (Ali et al 2010). Therefore, institutions are essential
determinant of host country s locational advantage to entice FDI (Bevan et al 2004).
Capital account liberalization process in Indonesia started under Soeharto s New Order
presidency which was remarked by the introduction of Foreign Investment Law in 1967. Prior the
issuance of this law, under President Soekarno regime (1945 1967), the government initiated self
sufficiency policy and Indonesia was administered as a socialist economy. In Soekarno era,
investors from western countries were strictly restricted to invest in Indonesia (Fitriandi et al 2014,
p.81). As a consequence, Indonesia was not an attractive place for foreign investors (Lindblad 2015,
p.221). The absence of rule of law concerning foreign direct investment in the period of 1945 1967
has made investment environment in Indonesia became uncertain and had high business risks
which were unfavourable for businesses. The business parties were became unconfident and faced

Othello s Character Flaws
In Othello, Shakespeare had vividly portrayed the personality flaw of Othello, and how these flaws
eventually He did not allow himself to have any uncleanness on his body, so when he discovered
that his wife was white and he was When he is not white, he cannot tolerate his own mistakes and
imposes severe punishment upon himself. In self punishment, Othellos characterhas been
sublimated. In this way, as far as he himself is concerned, his character is not perfect, but in the
eyes of art appreciators, his character is beautiful, and his character is also very beautiful. There
was great love between him and Desdemona. He destroyed her because he loved her too much. He
destroyed himself. It was also evidence of love. His act of destroying his wife was evil and
good. If Othello was a hero who was clearly aware of the truth, then when Iagu married his wife,
he immediately perceived and punished the bad guys, so that Othello s character was perfect and
flawless but, this way, a single, dispositional character loses its charm, and there is no living

Although artistic beauty should be higher than the reality of beauty, it should be more idealistic
than the actual beauty, but it is still an ideal based on reality rather than an artificial ideal. The
artificially created ideal person, once born, means death. This is an irresistible artistic rule. As an
ideal person, their character is single, and the person in reality is dual and must be flawed. This
duality only manifests the beauty of art. Othello s controversial figure in the history of world
literature is so concerned that its charm lies in his flawed

Stereotypes Of Women In Beowulf
As for social issues, the stereotypes of women are fairly apparent. Women seem to have a definite
roles and expectations. In one instance, it is mentions in the book that women are often married off
in order to settle tense relations between factions. One textual example read as:
Hrothgar will give her
To Ingeld, gracious Froda s son;
She and that ripening soldier will be married,
The Danes great lord and protector has declared,
Hoping that his quarrel with the Hathobards can
Be settled. (2023 2028)
This shows how women were used as an object, but most men in the epic were personified as
warriors or kings. In addition to this, Beowulf mentions how Grendel s mother could not be as
strong as him simply because she was a women. From the poem ... Show more content on

At another level, it is also a mode of analysis and politics, committed to freeing all women of gender
based oppressions (805). This ties into the theme of downplaying and obedience of women
throughout the epic. There is no mention of men walking throughout the mead halls serving the
other men, but Hareth s daughter took them through the hall, / Carried ale to her husband s
comrades (Beowulf 1981 1982). There seems to be a de facto state of women as the lesser sex
during this time. This may be due to the warrior culture that was apparent warrior culture that the
characters of Beowulf lived by. Lee and Daly s essay proposes the concept of universal female
subordination, of man the hunter, and woman the nurturer (30). It would be logical to assume that
one explanation for the patriarchal society of Beowulf would be the warrior culture. Even in today
s culture, it is not common for women to be a soldier. Lee and Daly concede that two parts are
social inequality and militarism (30). This may suggest that the positions of power that militarism
often grants men creates social inequality. This would seem to be even more painfully apparent
during a time such as the eighth century because it was the time of nights and

behind his suspension were allegations on the grounds of domestic violence. Though the
charges were dropped due to lack of cooperation from Brown s wife and the local law
enforcement, Brown still had to sit out on the opening season game. Many fans of the Giants
were outraged by that ruling. That outrage would subside though since Brown will return for the

The Nature And Complexities Important Aspects Of B2b And...
B2B Assignment 1
INTRODUCTION
This assignment is to understand the nature and complexities included in B2B marketing. This
assignment also includes the important aspects of B2B and B2C marketing. The objective is to
discuss how B2B differs from B2C.
B2B is basically for longtime sales practice called business to business while B2C signifies business
to consumer. B2B deals with commerce transactions between businesses, not the general public, and
B2C provides products and services directly to the end user. The initial step in forming marketing
strategies for both B2B and B2C is to some extent similar.

B2C sales representatives are accustomed to a moderately short purchase cycle and a much closer
association with marketing and e business. Exchanging to the B2B world would have a tendency
to baffle most B2C salesmen because of the more extended term technique and necessities for
relationship building. Then again, moving from B2B to a retail environment may turn out to be
excessively serious for the normal B2B sales proficient, with little of the consistency or arranging
they are utilized to. In either case, while fabricating a successful sales force, you ought to consider

Harlem Renaissance Essay
HARLEM RENAISSANCE
Throughout the history of African Americans, there have been important historical figures as well
as times. Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights
Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One
such period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem
Renaissance. It changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Furthermore, the
Harlem Renaissance forever left a mark on the evolution of the black culture.
The Harlem Renaissance found its birth in the early 1920 s, in Harlem, New York. The period has

Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a
love for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African AmericanLiterature and
Folk music.
Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire!
Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace
Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most
recognized Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were
Watching God, in 1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters.
Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background,
inspiration, and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz
represented the new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle.
One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her
recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Duke Ellington, whose legendary band
played at the Cotton Club, personifies jazz. Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday would also record
jazz music form the 1930 s until the 1950 s.
Langston Hughes was one of the few poets that would combine both blues and jazz to create an
original art form. Claude McKay used the jazz atmosphere in his novel Home to Harlem. In this
novel, he presented

Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, and Polymers
Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, and Polymers An attraction between atoms that allows chemical
substances to form is commonly referred to as a chemical bond. Two of the most common types
of chemical bonds are ionic bonds and covalent bonds. Both ionic and covalent bonds can be
mixed together in order to form mixtures and compounds. While the two types of chemical bonds
have several similarities, they are also vastly different. Ionic and covalent bonds are formed when
two or more elements bond together. There are 117 elements known to date. An element is defined
as a substance that is made up of a single atom. While 94 of these elements are naturally occurring,
22 of these elements are artificial. A complete list of elements can be found on the periodic table of
the elements, arranged by atomic number and by chemical property. When substances are formed
through ionic or covalent bonding, they can be combined with other substances to form mixtures or
compounds. A compound is a pure substance that is made up of two or more substances. A
compound is a homogenous mixture that requires all elements comprising the mixture to be present
in fixed proportions. When elements are combined to make a compound, they do not retain their
individual properties. Furthermore, in order to separate a compound into its individual elemental
components, a large amount of energy must be used. Compounds form naturally and have
elemental stability; stability depends on the number of electrons that

KEURIG AT HOME CASE ANALYSIS
Main Problem:
Keurig Inc. s main concern is how to obtain the position they want in the at home coffee market
segment without losing their share of the office coffee segment (OCS) and while maintaining their
gourmet coffee quality. They have less than six months to launch the product, and very limited
budget for production costs and expenses, and for changing the curent portion packs. There are two
strong competitors in the away from home market, Filterfish, and Flavia. There are some other
competitors in the at home market. In my opinion, this is marketing mix problem and the end goal is
to maximize the at home segment and protect the established OCS business.

Premium launching at $299 to cover costs incurred in R D. Competitive positioning based
onspeed, convenience/ cleanliness of preparation, ease of usage and taste consistency. The profit
generated will help in developing a new basic model with lower cost, priced at $129 to cater to
customers who are willing to buy the brewer at a lower price. Thus, they can profit by covering
high manufacturing costs initially and bracing up for the price war against competitors by
introducing the basic model.
B) Cups Penetration strategy @ $0.50 per K cup
44% of intercept customers are willing to pay $0.55 for a K cup, 30% of interested customers were
willing to pay $0.50 or more for a K cup. By pricing the K cup for $0.50,which is similar to Kcups
in the OCS market, KADs will not lose revenue from their segment. Premium flavor cups for the at
home segment be priced at $0.60 per cup.
III) PLACE / DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY
Blend of direct marketing through Internet and traditional retail channel.
A) Short term plan: Direct marketing through website is apt for selling to the 12000customers who
are waiting for the brewer for the home market. It is also convenient at targeting Keurig aware
customers. This can be executed by taking advantage of both Keurig s and the roaster s websites.

Ethos Pathos And Logos Analysis
Before the building of architectural achievements such as the Roman Colosseum, the Taj Mahal,
and the Windsor Castle, a Greek philosopher named Aristotle had created the three pillars of
persuasive speech over 2,000 years ago. These three pillars are known as ethos, logos, and pathos.
The architectural feats mentioned above had been created to last and withstand demolition from
external forces such as the weather, aging, and cracking/erosion. Just like these buildings are
structured, an argument needs to be well put together so it cannot be torn apart. This resulted in the
creation of the three pillars. In the reading of Monstrous Beginnings, the author, W. Scott Poole,
uses Aristotle s three pillars attempting to convince the reader that among... Show more content on

Pathos involves getting an emotional response from the reader, which is something that Poole
struggles to do in this writing. Although it is truly unfortunate how certain groups of people were
treated back then, Poole struggles to make you feel any sympathy for how the minorities were
treated. He does not include many stories that invoke feelings of anger towards the treatment of the
natives or pity or sorrow towards them. Another part that made his writing hard to read or feel any
emotion over were his long winded sentences. Many sentences went on longer than they should
have, or could have been cut in half to make shorter sentences so the material would become
easier to read. Poole s writing definitely leaned more toward the educational side than the
emotional side as it seemed to read more like a textbook than his own thoughts. However, there
are a few examples in his writing that if he made an effort, he could establish pathos much better.
For example, Francisco de Chicora could have made for a great story to establish pathos as he
was a native who was kidnapped by Spanish explorers and was forced into a different religion but
was able to escape from them (179). However, the reader learns the bulk of that information in the
footnotes rather than by reading an emotional story that would help establish the pathos in his
writing. Poole is not able to evoke much, if any,

Charles Darwin Observation
Observation: Viewing Nature through an Artistic Lens
While visual art has played an important role in many sciences, it was integral to the development
and acceptance of the theory of evolution, as it enabled Charles Darwin to more clearly express
his theories to the general public and other scientists alike. Darwin displayed a sharp eye for visual
differences, (Donald, 5) which is the quality that truly set the visionary apart from other scientists
and the careful observation that allowed him to develop his theories of evolution. Alexander von
Humboldt also exemplified this trait in his journeys that laid the framework for scientific
observation. This keen sense was invaluable in the scientific studies of these two men, as it allowed

Haeckel aimed to forge a personal connection to nature not dissimilar to the connection
Humboldt wished to instill. Though his father wished him to become a doctor, Haeckel loathed

Upon hearing of his hero Humboldt s death, Haeckel began to embrace more of a bohemian
lifestyle, and began to paint more frequently and engage less in scientific experimentation (Wulf,
303). Haeckel realized he would have to take up a position as a professor if he was to marry the
woman he loved, Anna. When he began analyzing specimens through his microscope again, he
viewed them from the perspective of not only a scientist but also an artist, and was mesmerized
by the invertebrates that looked like delicate works of art (Wulf, 304). His observation through a
microscope led to his discovery of radiolarians, single celled aquataic invertebrates that have very
impressive designs and patterns. Much like Darwin and Humboldt, Haeckel displayed incredible
powers of observation as well as extraordinary skill in portraying his observations through
masterful sketches and paintings. Haeckel could observe specimens with one eye down the
microscope and one eye on his drawing board at the same time (Wulf, 304), allowing him to
perfectly translate what he was seeing through his microscope into drawing. This process of

author Michael Pollan hypothesizes that tulips have developed an evolutionary design to enhance
beauty, making them constantly desirable and reproducible. Although tulips serve no practical
purpose, they are still yearned for by humans and billions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We are instinctively drawn to gorgeous flowers, much like the way bees are. One theory could
have to do with flowers being the precursor to fruits, which serve as a food source for humans.
Since the creation of mankind, humans have been built to be foragers, evolving to spy flowers in
an abundant landscape of colors. The humans that were successful foragers were the first to find
sweet fruit to sustain them and the ones to survive. This could have resulted in natural selection
favoring good foragers that could find fruits, remember their location, and differentiate them. This
proposes the thought that maybe all humans recognize floral beauty in the same way because we
are products of our ancestors, who evolved to be meticulous

Tipping In Restaurants
Tipping is an expected behavior from individuals after a meal in a restaurant. However, not every
individual will leave a tip or will leave a tip that is smaller than what is expected. This is one thing
that restaurants want to change. Behaviors on tipping vary across cultures, it is a voluntary choice
in the United Statesbut a service charge is almost always included in a bill in Europe (Hessler,
1999). Restaurants have tried changing the tipping behavior of customers in many ways. One
method that has been implemented is including gratuity guidelines on the bill. These guidelines
provide the customer a variety of tips usually 15, 18 and 20 percent calculated from the bill and
imply to tip within the given range (Hessler, 1999). There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to reactance theory, in order to earn the most amount in tips, the customer should not be
pressured to leave a tip. If a customer is pressured to leave a tip, either through guidelines or a

freedom to tip. Anchoring and adjustment heuristic can also predict tipping behavior and what can
be done so customers tip more. Providing the customer with gratuity guidelines will increase tipping
behavior because this offers a convenience to the customer. The anchoring and adjustment heuristic
can get people to tip more because customers are able to use the gratuity guidelines as suggestions

Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book Essay
Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book The classic novel, Of Mice and Men,
written by John Steinbeck was made into a Hollywood Blockbuster in 1992. Directed and acted
by Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, Hollywood took a stab at trying to recreate this literary
success. The novel, which takes place in the 1930 s, follows the lives of two men, George and
Lennie, as they try to attain their dream of owning a farm. George is a smart man who always
seems to have things figured out. Lennie is massive, but has the mind of a young child. George
looks after him, but it is not easy since Lennie always seems to get himself in some kind of trouble.

Moreover, in the book George is shown to really hate Curley, whereas in the movie, George
doesn t seem to like Curley too much but he definitely doesn t hate him. Apart from these
characters, all the others are pretty much very similar in both the book and the movie. As well
as the movie having some character differences, some of the scenes were either cut out or added.
One of the major differences in the movie is that Candy never comes into the room when Lennie
and Crooks are talking to each other. This is an important part in the novel because when Candy
comes in, Crooks finds about their future plan wants to get in on the deal. Except this scene is cut
short in the movie and Candy never shows up at Crooks house. Another important part that is
changed in the movie is the ending. The movie never shows Lennie have the illusions of his Aunt
Carla and the rabbits lecturing him while he is waiting by the pond. Also, is seems as though in
the movie George doesn t hesitate to shoot Lennie, and it is all over very quickly. Furthermore, the
important scene when Slim tells George, You hadda, George (107), never happens in the movie,
but instead it ends with an image coming from within George s imagination, a memory of the
many happy times that he and Lennie had shared. There are also some scenes that are added into
the movie, but only because the novel is so short, they needed to add things to make the

The Mental Health Counseling Is A Field Of Great...
Clinical Mental Health counseling is a field of great opportunity and great responsibility. When
counselees walk into the therapist s office, they are often at one of the lowest points of their lives,
bringing with them a lifetime of hurts, questions, and crises. The counselor s view of the Gospel
must be full enough to encompass the life of the hurting person. In those moments, a counselor
will rely on years of hard work and discipline to make decisions that impact a person for life. A
counselor must be prepared to do everything right yet still have the client walk away gaining
nothing. Biblical counselingrequires excellence in mind, personal discipline, and compassion,
driven by a desire to glorify God and faith in His grace and sovereignty. There is nothing like
Biblical counseling to see the Gospel work.

The Importance Of The Necessary And Proper Clause
The Necessary and Proper Clause is part of Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. Americans love
the Constitution but little do they actually know about its powers. Powers, established in
statements, which come along with bills from the House of Representatives, are tried by the
Necessary and Proper Clause and determined Constitutional or unconstitutional.
The Necessary and Proper Clause and its role in modern federal law, along with the questions that
come from applying the clause.
The Constitutional is centered around power and where that power comes from. The enumerated
powers established in Article 1, Section 8 have also given Congress the power to carry out laws in
order to follow previously established powers. Governments stretch and bend problems in such a
way that they will fit under the enumerated powers of the Constitution. All the enumerated powers
have a list of adjunct statute not stated in the strict interpretation of the power. The Necessary and
Proper Clause authorizes Congress to pass laws and the adoption of theses laws prompt
questions. Examples of questions would be: How strong must the means end connection between
the primary policy and the secondary rule be? or What are the side effects of this law and how
does it impact society? Laws passed under the clause are placed under judicial review which
determines if it applies under the Constitution.
The main points made in the book The Origins of the Necessary and Proper Clause by Gary Lawson,

Pokemon and the Steel Industry
The steel industry is something that has been evolving and changing for the past 3 centuries in
which the braced metal has been around. As we come into the modern age of mining and metal
production we can find that there have been difficulties in the way of our resources are beginning
to run low, mining is dangerous, we may not have enough fuel to smelt ironin the next century, and
abrasive water cutters are not innovating since their introduction. In the recent wake of these events
an unlikely source has been uncovered to help aid these problems and that source is the math and
physics of pokemon. Pokemon is a franchise of turn based RPG games in which creatures with
many crazy features fight each other for glory. Over the years pokemon has been getting crazy with
what these creatures are based on and some designs and descriptions hold the key to remedying
these problems with the metal industry. Currently, the metal industry, while strong, has many
problems due to the shrinking of natural resources and lack of innovation. the mathematics of
pokemon could lead a revolution in steelproduction because Excadrill design could lead to a more
efficient drill, the heat given off by magmortar is enough to create a new smeltingand improve

George Orwell s A Hanging Essay
In any account written by an author, real or fake, there is always a deeper goal whether it is to
persuade, inform, or just simply entertain. There is always some meaning at its heart. Sometimes,
however, messages become swayed and it becomes difficult to recognize the author s intentions in
writing. Sometimes his or her stance is unclear, however though one side could be strongly argued.
A Hangingby George Orwell is a prime example of this type of work, as the 1931 essay provokes
thought on the issue of capital punishment. The story details an experience Orwell had during his
work in Burma in which he was present for one prisoner s execution. There is certainly conflict
within Orwell for taking part in this event, and for being in relation to the functionaries
responsible for carrying out the sentence. While Orwell does not make his belief on capital
punishment clear, there is fair reason to argue that he is, in fact, an abolitionist. This is due to his
possible usage of the prisoner to represent the inhumanity of the death sentence, an excitable dog
portraying the event through the eyes of an innocent creature, and the irony of the workers
humorous words in contrast to the stark sobriety of the day however, Orwell s supposed objective,
though strong, also comes under scrutiny in its effectiveness. In order to address this piece and
analyze its methods of intention, it is preferable to first provide a summary of its events so that a
fluent discussion is allowed. The

American superpower, it all began with introduction of something that would change the

Corvettes on and off the racetrack, led other competitors such as Ford Motor Companywonder why

The Long Run Consequences Of Slow Economic Recovery After...
Abstract This research examined and listed some of the evidence demonstrating the long run
consequences of slow economic recovery after periods of recessions in the U.S. economy on wage
earners of a four person family. Economy shifts were examined and its effect on the four member
family, two adult wage earners, and two children was analyzed. This trend and shift of and within
the economy contributed to the overall wholeness and well being of the family. As a rising
economy produced family stability and productive home environments, a declining economy
produced insecurity and a negative home environment. Whether negative or positive, the economy
attributed to various differences within the context of a stable, healthy family structure. Keywords:
economy, family, healthy, home, negative, positive, productive, recovery shift, stability. Effects of
a Slow U.S. Economic Recovery on Wage Earners of a Four Person Family Typically, households
experiences differences in its wholesomeness and vitality as society experiences changes in our
nation s overall economy. Therefore, it is extremely important for the heads of the family to have a
plan in place at all times so that the family will experience the least amount of overall change as the
state of the economy fluctuates. The state of the U.S. economy, undoubtedly, shapes the family
infrastructure. This economic state creates either a balance or unbalance with the family. Whenever

Output hardware is components of or devices linked to a computer, which allow the computer to
transfer information to another computer system or the user of a computer system (Kroenke

tangible imagery usually, to some form of input hardware on another system. It is not designed
to receive data only to send. The most familiar of these devices is the visual display or computer
monitor. These monitors are usually synonymous with a computer and every system is equipped
with or able to connect to a Visual Display Unit. Projectors, audio systems, printers, and faxes are
all examples of output hardware. Microsoft Corporation in their endeavors to enhance everyone s
life with the aid of computing software has developed output hardware for the blind or visually

Essay about Evil Villains in Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
Evil Villains in Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
In Jane Austen s, Northanger Abbey, John Thorpe and General Tilney are portrayed as unpleasant
villains. Villains are defined as, a wicked or evil person; a scoundrel (The American Heritage
Dictionary http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=VILLAIN). Austendescription of both men as
power hungry, easily upset, and manipulative follows this definition. She introduces both characters
in separate parts of the book, however simultaneously she delivers a stunning example of their
identical villainous personalities. Through the portrayal of John Thorpe and General Tilney as
villains, Austen comments on the male supremacy that permeates through her time. In the first half

Much to Catherine s pleasure, she has a walk scheduled with her sweetheart, Henry Tilney, and
her dearest friend, Eleanor Tilney. However, on the morning of the walk, it rains. Austen uses the
rain to foreshadow the upcoming unpleasant events. In the afternoon, the rain subsides leaving a
muddy mess. Unexpectedly, Isabella Thorpe, John Thorpe, and James Morland arrive at her
house. They request that Catherine go along on their trip to neighboring cites. However,
Catherine feels obligated to stay in the house and await Henry Tilney and Eleanor Tilney. In his
typical self centered manner, John Thorpe declares that he saw Tilney engaging in other activities,
I saw him at that moment turn up the Lansdown Road, driving a smart looking girl (Austen 53).
Although perplexed as to why the Tilneys did not send word that their engagement should be
broken, she consents to the proposed carriage ride. While riding out of her neighborhood,
Catherine spots Eleanor and Henry Tilney walking towards her house. Catherine, exclaims, Pray,
pray stop, Mr. Thorpe. I cannot go on. I will not go on. I must go back to Miss Tilney. (Austen 54).
John Thorpe disregarding Catherine s plea, laughed, smacked his whip, encouraged his horse, made
odd noises, and drove on (Austen 54). During this scene, Austen magnifies the villainy of John
Thorpe by whisking away with innocent Catherine. After developing John

When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them
into fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure
survival. This is greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when
the main character Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and
when she volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the
world was on Katniss s shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family

Lastly, Katniss volunteered to take her sisters place in the hunger games when Prim s name was
pulled at the reaping. She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an
awful situation and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when
they were too weak to fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated
throughout the novel. This was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed
was when Katniss immediately without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself
in the hunger games in order to ensure Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the
despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I
volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how Katniss stood up for her sister and fought
for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and she risked it all for her. Katniss also
took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As soon as it was announced that
two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same district Katniss immediately
made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her power to assure his survival.
When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much time and effort in making
him better. At one point she even risked her own life to obtain medicine that would

Gibbons also explains that an ischemic stroke also consist of transient ischemic attacks (TIA). A
TIA is known as a mini stroke that is only a brief period of symptoms similar to those of an

The Pros And Cons Of Psychoanalysis
In psychology, a psychodynamic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious
and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th century, Sigmund
Freud proposed a psychodynamic theory according to which personality consists of the id, the
superego, and the ego. The id is responsible for a person s instincts and pleasure seeking, the
superego attempts to obey the rules of authority and society, and the ego mediates between the two
to meet the demands of reality and what a person needs. Psychodynamic theories commonly hold
that childhood experiences shape personality. Such theories are associated with psychoanalysis, a
type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires. The aim of psychoanalysis
therapy is to release represses emotions and experiences and to help the patient develop insight into
his or her unconscious. Patients may suppress their vulnerabilities, motives, tensions, impulses,
guilt, fantasies, and urges. Freud believed that individuals must unravel, experience, and understand
their true, unconscious feelings to understand them. Classical psychoanalysis has become the least
commonly practices form of psychodynamic therapy because of its intense demands on the patients
time and emotions. It is, however, the oldest form of psychodynamic therapy. Psychoanalysis is not
usually considered useful for patients suffering from severe depression or psychotic disorders such

Reflection On Swimming
Introduction
At the beginning of the semester, the health behaviour change I started pursuing is to swim
regularly. My goal of engage in this exercise is to acquire and grasp at least one swimming style
by the end of this semester, and the outcome I expect to obtain from it is the improvement of
physical fitness. Swimming is a strength consuming aerobic exercise that brings a variety benefits
to one s physiological and psychological states. Scholarly research has indicated that swimming
contributes to weight loss and acceleration of illness recovery (Yuan et al., 2016). Also, it can
improve emotional state, physical mobility and functional capacity, all of which can lead to a better
quality of life (Karapolat et al., 2009). Leg arm coordination and neural plasticity were both found
to be correlated with long term swimming behaviour. For aerobic exercises in general, it enhances
pulmonary functions and cognitive functions.
Methods
Dosage. After referring to my school and work schedule, I decided to swim at least two times a
week. Since I was a novice of swimming, I registered a swimming lesson for beginners at Hart
House fitness centre. The sessions took place every Monday and each took 50 minutes. My
attendance of the lesson each week was counted towards the dosage, which means that apart from
the lesson, I intend to swim by myself at least once a week to practice and strengthen what I had
learned in the lesson. For each practice session, I aimed on swimming 40 to 50

Review Of The Movie Contemporary Japanese Cinema
In contemporary Japanese cinema, a common theme that is portrayed is that of the failing family.
Films with this theme show families that do not fit the ideal family image and are instead riddled
with issues and problems that conflict that prevent the families from being whole and can lead to
the separation and breakage of them. One film that has aspects of the failing familytheme is Ringu
(1998) directed by Hideo Nakata; a film about a tape that curses and kills the viewer in seven days
after watching which prompts the lead character, Reiko Asakawa, to stop the curse. The failing
family theme is expressed through two different families, Reiko s family and Sadako s family,
which both show, in different ways, the failings of their respective families and what those themes
convey in their depiction. These families show together how the failings and problems they have
impact the family members in negative ways.
Reiko s family is one example of the failing family theme in Ringu. Reiko is a single mother,
divorced from her ex husband Ryuji, who lives with her son Yoichi on their own. She is
independent, and able to financially provide for the both of them as a journalist. This separates
her from the traditional domestic Japanese woman ideal as she lives independently from any
patriarchal figure (Wee, p. 157). However, the film implies that Reiko is not home as often as she
should as she mentions to Ryuji that Yoichi is fine on his own because he is used to it (Nakata,
1998).

Pop Culture In Japan
The throbbing crowd of Japanese business men all dressed in a suit holding a briefcase in a
crowded train station is a common image associated with the culture in Japan. Japan s culture has
promoted a lifestyle where work is prioritized over everything else and consumes the time of most
adults. In Response to this stressful work culture, Pop Culture has emerged in Japan as a way of
providing various mediums for escapism. For many Japanese adults, the time to create new
relationships in the form of romance or friendship has had to be given up due to the high
expectations of work. Fred Schumann who wrote Changing Trends in Japan s Employment and
Leisure Activities: Implications for Tourism Management, wrote about trends in Japanese leisure
activities and wrote: Today s consumers in Japan appears to be less materialistic and more
experience focused. (Schumann 2017, 51). With the decline of human connection, the rise of
artificial and paid for services has increased. I will be discussing the significance of these leisurely
outlets to the Japanese peopleand why there has been a rise of these outlets in Japan. Affective
labour is a term that can be used to describe work and positions that invoke emotions onto its

Unfortunately, the death of Esperanza s father forces her to flee to California and she is forced
leave everything behind and live amongst those who are below her. Esperanza travels to California
with her mother and previous servants Hortensia, Miguel, and Alfonso. The first main encounter
Esperanza experiences of growth is an encounter with a poor girl who wants her doll. Her reaction
was to hide her doll instantly because this doll was her last gift from her father and the little girl
... is poor and dirty (pg. 70). She is surprised that her mother apologizes to the child s mother.
Therefore, the author creates this scene to be the first lesson of kindness Esperanza experiences
because her mother makes a yarn doll for the crying child. Although, she is relieved that they get
off at the next stop because she doesn t want to be reminded of her selfish behavior (pg. 72). The
reader becomes aware of just how rich and spoiled Esperanza was because she sees an innocent
poor child to be so repulsive to her. The author writes about the character s relief when the child
is gone because it proves that she has not changed and is still entitled. However, this event is the
first step in Esperanza s realization and awareness of her selfish ways because she acknowledges
that her behavior was selfish. Moreover, they begin their new life in Arvin, California in a farm

Case Analysis Of Swisscom Hospitality
Introduction
Swisscom Hospitality is certainly one of the big players on the field of managed service provider
for the hospitality industry. It has developed its dominant position on the market of HSIA (high
Speed Internet Access) services throughout the last 16 years in EMEA and 5 years in the United
States. At its apogee in 2006, Swisscom Hospitality was serving HSIA services to more than 400
000 rooms throughout the different markets and proudly counted amongst its customers, chains
such as Hilton, Marriott or IHG. At the day of today, Swisscom Hospitality only counts 250 000
rooms which represent a nearly 38% reduction. A few factors can explain this loss of customer.

In Swisscom Hospitality case, innovation is necessary to improve a long time recurring issue,
which penalize the company s results and bring an overall unpleasant working environment. This
process requires the involvement of several business units as well as senior managers. As per Slack

The Good Girl Character Analysis
In the book, The Good Girl, by Mary Kubica, one of the main characters, Colin Thatcher, shows a
two very distinct personalities in the book. He changes throughout the book due to connections
with others. Before he bonds with Mia Dennett, Colin is selfish and hostile, and manipulative. A
good example of this is when the two first meet at the bar and Colin stops Mia from driving
herself home while drunk, She smiles and says that s sweet. She thinks I care about her. Little
does she know. I couldn t care less. (Kubica 48) Thatcher doesn t get much better for a long
while. He just continues to manipulate Mia with empty promises and half truths. Just after this,
Colin kidnaps Mia and takes her to a cabin in northern Michigan. A few months later, while they
re holed up in the cabin, Colin threatens Mia to keep her quiet after she tries to run away. I push
her up the steps, into the cabin. I slam the door shut, but it bounces back open. I kick it shut and
throw the table down to keep it closed. I yank her into the bedroom and tell her that if I hear her
so much as breathe she will never again see the light of day. (Kubica 87) While he never really
does anything to physically hurt Mia besides this and tripping her a couple of times here and
there, Colin throws his weight around a lot in the book and uses fear to keep Mia in line. His
actions and behavior start to get better throughout the book, but towards the middle, Colin reaches a
kind of purgatory between scum of the earth

Thesis For Nosferatu
Rhetorical Outline
Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire
as an icon of horror.
Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically
vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important
milestone in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the vampire icon and its use
of cutting edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would
find this book appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to
study Nosferatu, and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have
otherwise had.

She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto
the introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally
describes the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From
there, she discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how
their expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how
they presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker s
lawsuit against the Prana film company damaged the movie s reputation and popularity. From
there she describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in
Philosophy of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a
confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses, Massaccesi s description of the plot includes
lengthy and in depth analyses of each character in terms of their interactions with each other and
with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance of various aspects of the film in
relation to the film s events and characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also
discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in
Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or
the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork.
Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very
informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a
very clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via

Crucial to cell phones are applications, conversationally known as Apps. To secure touchy assets in
the smart phones, consent based permissions are utilized by cutting edge cell phone frameworks to
keep untrusted applications away from the smartphone user. In Android, an application needs to
expressly ask for an arrangement of authorizations when it is introduced. On the other hand, after
consents are allowed to an application, there is no real way to assess and limit how these
authorizations are utilized by the application to use delicate assets. Obviously, Android has pulled
in an enormous number of assaults.
While these malware applications are clear samples containing undesirable practices, sadly indeed,
even in evidently generous applications, there could likewise be numerous concealed undesirable
practices, for example, protection intrusion. A vital part in the battle against these undesirable
practices is the examination of delicate practices in Android applications. Customary investigation

On account of Android gadgets, the establishment process for another application approaches the

Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve...
12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to
inspire poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of
man s capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a
place no longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but
rather the privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always
will be beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueenallows us to
breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not
create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this
beauty affects and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and
abjection inspires psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from
subjective points of view (it is presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and
the scene in which Solomon rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection
create when presented simultaneously. Both enforce a separation between man and nature and
emphasize the heinous through means of polar comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the
retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a
wide far shot and captures the blinding white

Cyrano Plays Deceit to Win Love
In Edmond Rostand s play Cyrano De Bergerac, characters discuss about poetry, writings,
eloquence, war, bravery and love. The main character, Cyrano is a noble man. People love him
because he fearlessly shows his eloquence at the Hotel de Bourgogne Theatre one day. Since that
day, everyone loves to hear his poetry and words he has to say. He is excellent in words and
admired by many people. Throughout the play, Cyrano struggles with his large nose that became a
stumbling block to embrace true love. Although he is homely, he should have taken the risk in
telling Roxane about his love so she will not fall in love with Christian. Cyrano is an intelligent
man but so overwhelm with his large nose. Other people talk and laugh about his nose. Hence,
he does not have confidence pursuing Roxane. When Roxane admits that she is in love with
Christian, he is upset and yet found a light knowing that Christian is not eloquent in expressing
his feelings for her. Cyrano proposes that Christian will use his charm and he will use his
eloquence to win Roxane s heart. As Cyrano says In Roxane s eyes you shall not be disgraced.
Together, if you will, we can gain her love...(97) . Cyrano s proposal indicates his desperation
and wanted to love Roxane even in a secret way in which helps Christian to win Roxane. With
positive view for deception despite Christians doubt, Cyrano says It will fit her like a glove!

Self Portrait In A Straw Hat Essay
The two paintings which will be compared and contrasted are entitled Woman with a hat by
Henri Matisse and Self portrait in a Straw Hat by Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun. Both of these artists
have used the portraiture as a subject and have chosen painting as their art form and oils on
canvas as their medium. However, each of these artist s interpretation of their artwork is very
different. Matisse has concentrated on colours as he has applied a mixture of brilliant colour all
across his subjects face, hat, dress and even the background, whereas Vigee Le Brun has focused on
showing extreme reality in order to demonstrate her paintingskills which will be explored further.
Each artist has used a different style in their painting. Vigee Le Brun ... Show more content on

Both portraits are paintings that include a woman and a hat. Though Matisses art is a portrait of his
wife while Le Brun is painting portrait of herself. In each of these portraits the artists have
approached it differently and have different intentions and meanings. Matisses use of bright
colours communicate his painting subjectively and the loose brush strokes made the painting look
almost unfinished which was essentially the artist s move towards an expressive individual style.
Matisse is communicating subjectively as he has used colours not to imitate nature but to produce
a reaction in the viewer. The hat is being used to show that she is an upper class woman. In
Matisse s portrait Amelia is holding a fan which is seemingly important as it s used to show mood,
while in Le Brun s self portrait she is holding a paint palette. The hat is important to the painting
as in fact it is the main purpose of his painting. As the painting is entitled, Woman with a Hat . Le
Brun s self portrait represents how she s painting it in the first place straight up. Hence, she is
trying to communicate and put things in the painting to give clues about what she s about and what
she does for a living subjectively. It is also a means of representing her physical attributes, self
portraiture, her place in society and her style. And therefore she is subjectively communicating
herself. As she was

In A Day Imagery
An Image Is Worth A Thousand Meanings Sam Shepard once said that, Words are tools of
imagery in motion . In the short story entitled All Summer in a Day which describes the tale of a
young girl missing out on the appearance of the sun (an event occurring every 7 years) due to her
classmates believing that she is different because she is not a native to the planet, Ray Bradbury
utilizes imagery in the story similarly to how it is described by Sam Shepard in the quote. Ray
Bradbury s All Summer In a Day manipulates imagery by choosing contradicting pieces of imagery
linked by their familiarity to children to create a conflict between reactions to what is unknown and
what is known and Bradbury uses the clash to express that the unknown... Show more content on

This is able to convey meaning by creating a contradiction. While the rain is sweet, beautiful, and
crystal, it is simultaneously repetitive and tiresome. The rain connects to the roses Bradbury used
as well because the beauty of the roses disguises the negative aspects of it, similarly the seemingly
beautiful exterior of the rain does not show how its constant fall can be irritating. Here Bradbury
manages to form a connection between the children and the rain through his imagery. The children
have known rain all of their lives, causing them to become closely associated with one another. The
more they experienced rain, the less they liked it. Contrastingly, they did not know Margot very
well but still did not favor her. It is this contradiction between disliking what is known and what is
not known that connects back to the same major conflict appearing throughout the story as to how
one reacts to something that is foreign to them in contrast to if they recognized it

Descriptive Essay On Sculptures
As the sun started to settling down, you walked into a wonderful museum full of figure sculptures
to which the natural spot light shines from the sun hit the wonderful master pieces. Then you walk
more deeply inside an exhibition room, suddenly, you notice that you are surrendered by medium
size to large sculptures. One sculpturethat is space equally to one an another, but they all have no
cloth on. As you tend to get closer and closer and the story of the sculptures reveal more details
of what is the sculpture tell you like a story telling. Even the details of the bodies tend to give of
a more muscle structures. When looking at a stone sign above, you notice that you are in a
theme of nude figure sculptures. In the center were the four main sculptures which is in order
from finest pick from the museum and three from the class room lecture. They are The
Lansdown Athlete, the Roman copy of the Lysippos, and Roman copy after a Greek original by
Praxiteles, Hermes and the Infant Dionysos. From my opinion is that the sculptures are in nude
because they tell us that the sculptures are goddesses or a recreation of a person that is not real.
The nude sculpture is one who is not wearing cloth or less who which it shows our body parts.
Most of the sculptures are made out of stone, marble, and bronze. They are shown in large structure
or a human size. All figures are mostly made in Greek Late Classical to Hellenistic, thus the artist

The Effect Of Cisplatin On Cell Division Of Escherichia...
Introduction
Cisplatin (figure 1a) is a platinum derived alkylating like, anti proliferative compound and is
also known as cis diammine dichloro platinum (II) (CDDP). It is one of the most effective anti
neoplastic drug that is used in the treatment of several neoplasias such as lung, ovarian, bladder
and testicular cancers 1. It was synthesised in 1844 by M. Peyrone (figure 1b). However, it did
not attain any scientific importance until 1965, when Rosenberg, Vancamp et al at Michigan State
University discovered that platinum electrodes were able to inhibit cell division of Escherichia
Coli bacteria. This discovery led to a further investigation of cisplatin effects on cell division in
different tumor cells. It was shown to have anticancer activity and was the first platinum cytotoxic
drug approved by food and administration authority (FDA) in 1978 2.

A normal cell replicates and divides into two cells which in turn divide into four daughter cells and
so on by DNA replication in mitosis. As the cell grows old, it dies because of the programmed
cell death known as apoptosis. The dead cells are then replaced with new cells. However when the
DNA of the cell is damaged, for example when there is a genetic change such as DNA mutation or
defective protein synthesis, the cell becomes abnormal. It begins to divide uncontrollably and forms
a growth (cancerous tumour), in contrast to the normal cell in which

  • 3. Comparative Analysis Of A Few Good Men A Comparative analysis of Red Reiner s A Few Good Men It is interesting to see human behavior when put into a difficult situation that may force them to harm others when they do not want to, but will anyways. It is human nature to always do what is best for themselves and their safety, but people tend to harm others when they can shift the blame off themselves for causing them harm. As for example the milgram experiment is a great example showing people will cause harm under given command. This not true for everyone, but for most people it is. People will harm others, but kept telling the instructor that they want to stop. The instructor told them they must keep on going, the first response would be i do not want to blamed for hurting the person, soon as instructor took the responsibility then the they would continue to cause pain. A movie that takes a closer look into this situation is A Few Good Men directed by Red Reiner. Some of the main actors were Tom Cruise who played Lt. Daniel Kaffee and is a lawyer that is defending the marines in a murder case, Jack Nicholson who played Col. Nathan R. Jessup is the leader of marines stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Demi Moore who played LT. Cdr. Joanne Galloway is part of the team with Kaffee to defend marnie in the murder case , James Marshall who played Pfc. Louden Downey is the marine who is trialed for murder and disorderly conduct, and Kevin Bacon who played Lt. Sam Weinberg is the Prosecutor . To quick run over the movie, it ... The last time that the Calbuco volcano erupted was April 22, 2015 and actually erupted for a second time 7 hours later on that same day. Before that, the volcano hadn t erupted since 1972. Both of the eruptions were about the same, releasing lava into the air and a mushroom cloud of ash 49,000 feet into the sky. Lighting also occurred, making it a frightening but beautiful sight to see in the night sky. Just before the Calbulco volcano erupted, they called for an evacuation and nearly 1,500 people were evacuated from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the background we see a volcano on top of a mountain, with the tops covered in snow. In the foreground we see green grass and a couple of trees, and in the middle ground we see what looks like a grassy hill leading up to fields and fields of trees. The key element of this photograph is the huge volcano located in the background. This photograph brings us to the Calbuco volcano on a sunny day. This volcano is located in Los Lagos, Chile. Most people would seriously question on why so many people throughout the world live in the immediate vicinity of a volcano, and although we can only see the downside of that, there are benefits from living so close to a volcano. One of the biggest reasons are the soils close to a volcano is full of nutrients and minerals which keep the soil very fertile. This happens because of all of the lava and rock that a volcano releases. This helps soil stay rich with nutrients and gives opportunities to grow fruit, rice or other ... • 5. Central African Republic You cannot have peace without security and you cannot have effective security without peace. In August of this year, there was an estimate of 400 bodies that were collected across Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic. This number was acquired in just three days and it served as a huge wake up call for the Central Africans. However, it was not long before another revolt that left twelve people dead, thirty people wounded, and children were not spared. Meanwhile in Denmark, reports are showing that they are stressing the protections of civil rights and humane treatment. For this reason, the county of Denmark is at an all time low of violence and misconducts. The Central African Republicseparated itself from Boganda in December of 1958. However, all went wrong when Bokassa was elected president and eventually president for life in 1968. Denmark on the other hand went through a terrible slump when under German control. Innocent Danish people were arrested during World War II. In reaction to how poorly their people were treated, the Danish government designed a liberal system for all citizens, including inmates. According to Dr. Robert Winslow, the final revisions were made in 2001 and today the country of Denmark leads Europe as far as well designed security sectors. Obviously, the Central African Republic has a very dysfunctional security sector however other countries around the globe such as Denmark have never been better. The members of the ... • 6. Fdi Of Foreign Investment Law Essay FDI Institutional Change in Indonesia The strong growth of total global FDI has increased the need of FDI as a source of external financing to contribute in host country s economic development. This condition encourages many countries to perform institutional reform in order to attract larger shares of FDI flows. From the perspective of investors, they are more concern on the host country s institutional quality when determining their investment location (Ali et al 2010). Therefore, institutions are essential determinant of host country s locational advantage to entice FDI (Bevan et al 2004). Capital account liberalization process in Indonesia started under Soeharto s New Order presidency which was remarked by the introduction of Foreign Investment Law in 1967. Prior the issuance of this law, under President Soekarno regime (1945 1967), the government initiated self sufficiency policy and Indonesia was administered as a socialist economy. In Soekarno era, investors from western countries were strictly restricted to invest in Indonesia (Fitriandi et al 2014, p.81). As a consequence, Indonesia was not an attractive place for foreign investors (Lindblad 2015, p.221). The absence of rule of law concerning foreign direct investment in the period of 1945 1967 has made investment environment in Indonesia became uncertain and had high business risks which were unfavourable for businesses. • 8. Othello s Character Flaws In Othello, Shakespeare had vividly portrayed the personality flaw of Othello, and how these flaws eventually He did not allow himself to have any uncleanness on his body, so when he discovered that his wife was white and he was When he is not white, he cannot tolerate his own mistakes and imposes severe punishment upon himself. In self punishment, Othellos characterhas been sublimated. In this way, as far as he himself is concerned, his character is not perfect, but in the eyes of art appreciators, his character is beautiful, and his character is also very beautiful. There was great love between him and Desdemona. He destroyed her because he loved her too much. He destroyed himself. It was also evidence of love. His act of destroying his wife was evil and good. If Othello was a hero who was clearly aware of the truth, then when Iagu married his wife, he immediately perceived and punished the bad guys, so that Othello s character was perfect and flawless but, this way, a single, dispositional character loses its charm, and there is no living Othello full of human nature.... Although artistic beauty should be higher than the reality of beauty, it should be more idealistic than the actual beauty, but it is still an ideal based on reality rather than an artificial ideal. The artificially created ideal person, once born, means death. This is an irresistible artistic rule. As an ideal person, their character is single, and the person in reality is dual and must be flawed. This duality only manifests the beauty of art. • 9. Stereotypes Of Women In Beowulf As for social issues, the stereotypes of women are fairly apparent. Women seem to have a definite roles and expectations. In one instance, it is mentions in the book that women are often married off in order to settle tense relations between factions. One textual example read as: Hrothgar will give her To Ingeld, gracious Froda s son; She and that ripening soldier will be married, The Danes great lord and protector has declared, Hoping that his quarrel with the Hathobards can Be settled. (2023 2028) This shows how women were used as an object, but most men in the epic were personified as warriors or kings. In addition to this, Beowulf mentions how Grendel s mother could not be as strong as him simply because she was a women. From the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At another level, it is also a mode of analysis and politics, committed to freeing all women of gender based oppressions (805). This ties into the theme of downplaying and obedience of women throughout the epic. There is no mention of men walking throughout the mead halls serving the other men, but Hareth s daughter took them through the hall, / Carried ale to her husband s comrades (Beowulf 1981 1982). There seems to be a de facto state of women as the lesser sex during this time. This may be due to the warrior culture that was apparent warrior culture that the characters of Beowulf lived by. Lee and Daly s essay proposes the concept of universal female subordination, of man the hunter, and woman the nurturer (30). It would be logical to assume that one explanation for the patriarchal society of Beowulf would be the warrior culture. Even in today s culture, it is not common for women to be a soldier. Lee and Daly concede that two parts are social inequality and militarism (30). This may suggest that the positions of power that militarism often grants men creates social inequality. This would seem to be even more painfully apparent during a time such as the eighth century because it was the time of nights and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One such period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem Renaissance. It changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a love for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African AmericanLiterature and Folk music. Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire! Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most recognized Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were Watching God, in 1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters. Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background, inspiration, and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz represented the new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle. One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, and Polymers Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, and Polymers An attraction between atoms that allows chemical substances to form is commonly referred to as a chemical bond. Two of the most common types of chemical bonds are ionic bonds and covalent bonds. Both ionic and covalent bonds can be mixed together in order to form mixtures and compounds. While the two types of chemical bonds have several similarities, they are also vastly different. Ionic and covalent bonds are formed when two or more elements bond together. There are 117 elements known to date. An element is defined as a substance that is made up of a single atom. While 94 of these elements are naturally occurring, 22 of these elements are artificial. A complete list of elements can be found on the periodic table of the elements, arranged by atomic number and by chemical property. When substances are formed through ionic or covalent bonding, they can be combined with other substances to form mixtures or compounds. A compound is a pure substance that is made up of two or more substances. A compound is a homogenous mixture that requires all elements comprising the mixture to be present in fixed proportions. When elements are combined to make a compound, they do not retain their individual properties. Furthermore, in order to separate a compound into its individual elemental components, a large amount of energy must be used. Compounds form naturally and have elemental stability; stability depends on the number of electrons that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethos Pathos And Logos Analysis Before the building of architectural achievements such as the Roman Colosseum, the Taj Mahal, and the Windsor Castle, a Greek philosopher named Aristotle had created the three pillars of persuasive speech over 2,000 years ago. These three pillars are known as ethos, logos, and pathos. The architectural feats mentioned above had been created to last and withstand demolition from external forces such as the weather, aging, and cracking/erosion. Just like these buildings are structured, an argument needs to be well put together so it cannot be torn apart. This resulted in the creation of the three pillars. Another part that made his writing hard to read or feel any emotion over were his long winded sentences. Many sentences went on longer than they should have, or could have been cut in half to make shorter sentences so the material would become easier to read. Poole s writing definitely leaned more toward the educational side than the emotional side as it seemed to read more like a textbook than his own thoughts. However, there are a few examples in his writing that if he made an effort, he could establish pathos much better. For example, Francisco de Chicora could have made for a great story to establish pathos as he was a native who was kidnapped by Spanish explorers and was forced into a different religion but was able to escape from them (179). The humans that were successful foragers were the first to find sweet fruit to sustain them and the ones to survive. Sometimes his or her stance is unclear, however though one side could be strongly argued. A Hangingby George Orwell is a prime example of this type of work, as the 1931 essay provokes thought on the issue of capital punishment. The story details an experience Orwell had during his work in Burma in which he was present for one prisoner s execution. There is certainly conflict within Orwell for taking part in this event, and for being in relation to the functionaries responsible for carrying out the sentence. While Orwell does not make his belief on capital punishment clear, there is fair reason to argue that he is, in fact, an abolitionist. This is due to his possible usage of the prisoner to represent the inhumanity of the death sentence, an excitable dog portraying the event through the eyes of an innocent creature, and the irony of the workers humorous words in contrast to the stark sobriety of the day however, Orwell s supposed objective, though strong, also comes under scrutiny in its effectiveness. Hunger Games Essay When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an awful situation and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when they were too weak to fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated throughout the novel. This was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how Katniss stood up for her sister and fought for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and she risked it all for her. Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her power to assure his survival. When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much time and effort in making him better. Films with this theme show families that do not fit the ideal family image and are instead riddled with issues and problems that conflict that prevent the families from being whole and can lead to the separation and breakage of them. One film that has aspects of the failing familytheme is Ringu (1998) directed by Hideo Nakata; a film about a tape that curses and kills the viewer in seven days after watching which prompts the lead character, Reiko Asakawa, to stop the curse. The failing family theme is expressed through two different families, Reiko s family and Sadako s family, which both show, in different ways, the failings of their respective families and what those themes convey in their depiction. These families show together how the failings and problems they have impact the family members in negative ways. Reiko s family is one example of the failing family theme in Ringu. Reiko is a single mother, divorced from her ex husband Ryuji, who lives with her son Yoichi on their own. She is independent, and able to financially provide for the both of them as a journalist. This separates her from the traditional domestic Japanese woman ideal as she lives independently from any patriarchal figure (Wee, p. 157). However, the film implies that Reiko is not home as often as she should as she mentions to Ryuji that Yoichi is fine on his own because he is used to it (Nakata, 1998). ... Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueenallows us to breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously. Introduction Cisplatin (figure 1a) is a platinum derived alkylating like, anti proliferative compound and is also known as cis diammine dichloro platinum (II) (CDDP). It is one of the most effective anti neoplastic drug that is used in the treatment of several neoplasias such as lung, ovarian, bladder and testicular cancers 1. It was synthesised in 1844 by M. Peyrone (figure 1b). However, it did not attain any scientific importance until 1965, when Rosenberg, Vancamp et al at Michigan State University discovered that platinum electrodes were able to inhibit cell division of Escherichia Coli bacteria. This discovery led to a further investigation of cisplatin effects on cell division in different tumor cells. It was shown to have anticancer activity and was the first platinum cytotoxic drug approved by food and administration authority (FDA) in 1978 2. Figure 1a: cisplatin structure 1. Figure 1b: synthesis of cisplatin 3. A normal cell replicates and divides into two cells which in turn divide into four daughter cells and so on by DNA replication in mitosis. As the cell grows old, it dies because of the programmed cell death known as apoptosis. The dead cells are then replaced with new cells. However when the DNA of the cell is damaged, for example when there is a genetic change such as DNA mutation or defective protein synthesis, the cell becomes abnormal. It begins to divide uncontrollably and forms a growth (cancerous tumour), in contrast to the normal cell in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
