Analysis Of The Great Dictator Charlie Chaplin
The Great Dictator written and directed by Charlie Chaplin is a film that circles around two
characters, which are both played by Chaplin. The movie begins in a time and place similar to
one where Hitler had risen to power, and started his annihilation of the Jews. Chaplin plays both
the amnesiac Jewish barber and Hynkel (Hitler), the dictator of Tomainia. Hynkel though a
powerful and ruthless dictator is often shown to be comically dwarfed both in height and
intelligence. His right hand commander, or trash guy, seems to be the one behind some of his
plans. He compliments Hynkel with words of praise then proceeds to hint at ways to destroy the
Jews, and take over the neighboring states. But as the film progresses, we see how Chaplin portrays
Hynkel as being utterly ridiculous; the man cannot seem to do anything without growing angry at
his own incompetence.
Movies like this, and a similar film, Inglorious Bastards , portray Hitler as a man who in the face
of death or immediate anger will quiver and blubber nonsense or the next second muster enough
anger to rant as loud as possible (ex: Cheese and Crackers!) I think Chaplin did good capturing the
Fuhrer s mannerisms in such an ironic way. Some of his mannerisms include the feeble, affected
hand salute; Inclination for striking ludicrous attitudes; The fabulous fits of rage and violent facial
contortions.
There were many themes I noticed in the film, and one of the most prevalent themes was the use of
satire. The use of humor and exaggeration provided a constant comic relief from the actual reality
of what was going on during this time. Although he did state at one point that he was unaware, or
not fully aware of Adolf s actions and intentions. According to an article, Chaplin wrote in his
biography that he regretted making the The Great Dictator: Had I known of the actual horrors of the
German concentration camps, I could not have made the Great Dictator; I could not have made fun

My friend Crystal is a person of significance in my life. She showed me that there are friends out
there who will go further and beyond for you. I first met Crystal at this festival called Sakura
Matsuri. Sakura Matsuri is a Japanese festival that takes place at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

Influential philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, stated that the human body is the best picture of the
human soul. A great example of the human body portraying the soul is through the art of ballet.

controlled movements of the body are designed to express the beauty of physical motion, often
while telling a story, or a piece of music for such dancing. With ballet s long history, it has shifted
through various eras of time, including Ballet de Cour, Opera Ballet, Romanticism, Classical,
Russian Imperialism, and the current modern era. All of which are characterized by particular
ballets, prominent people, and various other theatrical elements. However, as the art of ballet

furniture was the same and the sofa was yellow which suggests that it was very old and had aged
since his last visit. This is significant to the entire novel because aged items are only described with
the lower class and people in poverty don t have the ability to buy new things, they have to live with

Many themes ran fluently through this book but as far as the style of writing goes Morrison
does the job well by incorporating them all. Even though the setting take place in the north in
Ohio (1940s) the color of your skin is still a factor. Morrison uses the black community as
example to expose how racial conflict occurred without the evolvement of white people. Her
characters believed the lighter you are the closer you are to being white and accepted. Morrison s
style also uses the theme ideals opposed to reality that Hawthorne, Melville, Cather, Fitzgerald, and
Twin use. The young girls want to be white but hate that who they are isn t adored. The way she
doesn t sugarcoat her writingis similar to Wright and the bluntness they both use.... Show more

Along with the ability to connect stations by wire came cultural issues. Americans feared
monopolies. AT T already controlled the telephone business and also had control over the radio
wires. AT T feared that they would lose their telephone monopoly if they did not withdraw from
the radio monopoly. At the same time RCA, GE, and Westinghouse worried about government
interference. These companies were interested in achieving national radio with maximum profit
and minimum public fuss over monopoly (Smulyan 58). In 1926 they solved the problem by
creating a separate broadcast organization that would lease telephone lines from AT T. The new
company was NBC (National Broadcasting System). Now there were two NBC stations that were
operated independently that had coast to coast connections to local stations. The arrangement
pleased the government, the companies, and the public (Vivian 177). Radio was still lacking in
regulations. There were too many stations broadcasting at the same frequencies interrupting each
others broadcasts. This was frustrating for the listeners and the broadcasters. The solution was
the Radio Act of 1927 (Keith 6). This act created the Federal Radio Commission (FRC). The
FRC s responsibility was to license radio stations В‘if public convenience, interest or necessity is
