Dear Professor and class,
When thinking about “revolutions”, and the true meaning of the word, I feel that it represents desire, and a driving force to achieve a goal. With this in mind, we can easily use the example of America battling for freedom against British rule. America was upset over the taxes that Britain was forcing on them, and many of the laws that benefited Britain and made life harder for Americans. In the reading, Peter Gay describes this period of revolution as “freedom from arbitrary power, freedom of speech, freedom of trade, freedom to realize one’s talents, freedom of aesthetic response, freedom, in a word, of moral man to make his way in the world.” (Sayre, 2013). What all revolutions have in common, contemporary ones and those in the past, is resistance to a perceived tyranny. It makes a big difference if the tyranny is seen as an imposition from outside, as it was in America in 1776, and in this century, in India and elsewhere, or if the tyranny is seen to reside in an internal structure, as in France in the 18th century and Russia and China in the 20th. The purpose of all revolutionaries, nevertheless, is to achieve power. According to Sayre., H. M. (2013). The American Declaration of Independence is one of the Enlightenment’s boldest assertions of freedom. In some instances, it may suffice simply to shift power to local hands and leave the social order essentially unchanged. This is what happened in the American Revolution. In others - as was the case in France and Russia - power is redistributed and the society is turned upside down. The more familiar kind of Latin American upheaval, the palace coup where a leader is removed from power by the people who have worked with him or her.

“Objectification and Dismemberment of Women
in Advertising and Magazines”
“The Objectification and Dismemberment of Women in the Media”
“The Sexual Objectification of Women in Advertising: A Contemporary Cultural Perspective”
Does the media have a negative influence on society in the way it advertises women?
Objectifying women basically means treating a person in a certain was that disregards their dignity, treating them like objects. In advertising specifically in television and magazines the majority of women are used as objects. When certain body parts are being focused on and enhanced it may send a message that women must look a certain way in order to be attractive.
Overtime, more females are falling into the trap of eating disorders as a quick method to shed weight in order to look like the girls they see in commercials. Most ads only contain women who are extremely thin or underweight, and if they do not meet a certain image they are photo shopped to look a certain way. Female viewers then begin to believe that in order to be beautiful and accepted by society they must look like the models in the photo-shopped ads. Some advertisements that portray the way females should look like are causing women to go under the knife to change their looks.
Furthermore, in some commercials women are portrayed as housewives which leads societies to believe that a woman’s sole purpose in life is looking after her husband and children which will then lead to the amount of working women to decrease. Moreover, when women are dressed in little to no clothing this represents them as sex objects, with a main aim of attracting male attention. One negative effect is that women’s main concern is their physical appearance and how to dress in a certain way to attract men.Watching these commercials have encouraged women to engage sexually with men and pregnancy levels increased immensely. Some females are aware of the problem with using women as sex objects in advertisements and completely disagree that they are showing women for what they truly are.
Unfortunately women nowadays tend to be forgiving of advertising companies who are portraying them so negatively. .

Listening Skills - Types, Barriers and Strategy to Overcome BarriersParveen Kumar Sharma
‘Listening’ as the ‘Master Art’. It is more challenging than reading as I previously said here. I cannot think of underlining or highlighting the spoken words or the sound waves. They are ‘virtually visible to my ears’ and once articulated and once missed by me is a ‘gone word’. Everything in life doesn’t have a ‘Play Again’ button. Unlike reading, listening is not visibly documented. The book in your possession won’t mind if you missed two-three sentences and you can read them again- all at your convenience. Listening- if you don’t listen to me, I can see that and will mind the negligence-even to a single word.
IFS Vocabulary - Homophones, Homonyms, One Word SubstitutionParveen Kumar Sharma
Our vocabulary can be divided into TWO Types: Active Vocabulary and Passive Vocabulary. We need constant practice with words to make a strong vocabulary. There are some confusing words in English that challenge us sometimes. This topic of Vocabulary - Synonyms, Antonyms, Homophones, Homonyms, Homographs, One Word Substitution is going to introduce you to the same task of knowing more words.
Parts of Speech in English - IFS English Amity Tashkent
Each language has its own alphabet, it also has its own Grammar.
For English, all the words we see are divided into nine classes or categories. These classes are called Parts of Speech.
We speak words. We speak names, actions, qualities, connectors, and exclamatory words as well. We speak and that is what we call a SPEECH. Every Word belongs to a Parts of Speech category.
They are Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Verb, Adverb, Preposition, Conjunction, Interjections and Article Determiners.
Remember that the same word can be a Noun and in the next sentence it can be USED as a VERB.
Understanding what is being said is an important aspect of Listening Skills. One who can Comprehend the meaning and message of what is being heard can return the communication with more accuracy. In the 21st century skills, listening leads the race as this has become a rare thing to see in people.
The Lost Child by Mulk Raj Anand - Notes_Grade 9 - Parveen2022.pdfParveen Kumar Sharma
It was the season of spring. The people of the village came out of their houses, in colourful attire and walked towards the fair. A child along with his parents was going to the fair and was very excited and happy. He was attracted to the stalls of toys and sweets. Though his father got angry, his mother pacified him and diverted his attention toward other things. The child moved forward but once again lagged because his eyes were caught by one thing or the other, every now and then.
As they moved forward, the child wanted the various things on the stalls. His mouth watered seeing sweets decorated with gold and silver leaves.
He wanted his favourite burfi but knowing that his parents would refuse on the ground that he was greedy, he walked ahead. Then he saw the beautiful garlands of Gulmohar but didn’t ask for them, then he saw balloons, but he knew very well that his parents would deny it because he was too old to play with balloons, so he walked away.
Then he saw a snake charmer and a roundabout swing. As he stopped to ask his parents for permission to enjoy the swing, to his astonishment, there was no reply. Neither his father nor his mother was there. Now the child realized that he was lost. He ran here and there but could not find them. The place was overcrowded. He got terrified but suddenly a kind-hearted man took him up in his arms and consoled the bitterly weeping child. He asked if he would like to have a joyride, but the child sobbed “I want my father, I want my mother.” The man offered him sweets, balloons, and garland but the child kept sobbing “I want my father, I want my mother.”
Life is full of such situations where we need to make a choice. While we resolve a complex dilemma, there remains a fear that the other choice might be favourable too. But we need to choose one and leave the other option. Frost takes us to encounter one such experience and brings home a metaphorical take away.
The narrator comes upon a fork in the road while walking through a yellow wood. He considers both paths and concludes that each one is equally well-travelled and appealing. After choosing one of the roads, the narrator tells himself that he will come back to this fork one day to try the other road. However, he realizes that it is unlikely that he will ever have the opportunity to come back to this specific point in time because his choice of path will simply lead to other forks in the road (and other decisions).
The narrator ends on a nostalgic note, wondering how different things would have been, had he chosen the other path.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Notes on various types of letters
Letter to Editor – LTE
Tips to help you get your letter to the editor published
Why write a letter to the editor?
Even politicians, businesses and organisations can find it difficult to get
their stories reported and published, so it can be even trickier for
individuals to make their mark in the media.
The purpose of letters to the editor pages in newspapers is to give
everyday people an opportunity to publish their views, comment on a
recent article and respond to the issues of the day. This makes writing a
letter to the editor one of the easiest ways to get your message across to
thousands of readers.
As we are to write Formal Letters as per the CBSE Formats, we need to
ensure that we do follow the rules and compose the letter in exams, as
expected by the examiners. The purpose for us initially is to get good
marks and then use this SKILL in our life.
A letter to the editor may well be one of the trickiest few paragraphs you
will ever write. You must capture the readers’ attention in the first sentence
and win them over within a few sentences. Here are some tips:
Be timely and topical
If you are responding to something that appeared in the newspaper, you
need to send your letter to the editor that very day or, at the latest, the
next day. Sending a letter on Thursday about an issue that appeared in
Monday’s paper is a waste of time because it will not be published. Media
moves quickly and if you wait a day or two, the news outlet may have
already moved on to another topic.
If you raise a problem, it must be done timely and the letter should relate
to the topic, not to random expressions.
2. Page 2 of 12
Keep it brief
The best thing is to keep it concise and compact. Keep the word limits or
the explanation limits as discussed with the educator, as per the exam
patterns.
Keep it simple
There simply isn’t space in a letter to the editor to cover more than one
topic. If the issue is complex, select a couple of key points and write about
those.
Tailor your letter (this is a tip for future use of LTE)
If you write the same letter and send it to five newspapers, with five
different types of readers, you risk it being published in none. Editors look
for particular things in the letters they publish. They also don’t want to
publish a letter that may be published somewhere else. Choose a paper
and read the letters to the editor section for a couple of weeks to see if
you can pick up at the style and tone of the letters that get published.
Clean and Clear handwriting
The handwriting shall be the key to make the reader see the goodness in
your letter. When we type, we follow the format the same way, but less
bothered about handwriting. In the exam, keep it clean and clear for the
reader.
Be logical
Your letter needs an opening, middle and end (Body of the Letter). Begin
your letter by briefly stating the argument you are making. The middle part
of your letter is where you can set out the points you want to make and
provide any evidence to back up your case. Close your letter by restating
your position, making a succinct comment and state the Action Required.
Refer to the original article
If you are responding to an article or letter published in the newspaper,
make sure you refer to it at the outset. The correct way to do this for
articles is to cite the title of the article and the date on which it was
published.
3. Page 3 of 12
Get to the point
Remember that if the information isn’t essential, you don’t need it. You
aren’t writing an essay, so you don’t need to cover every angle, rather,
you are crafting a clever and concise couple of sentences which must
inform and have an impact.
Advance the argument
Ask yourself whether you are saying something new, or simply re-hashing
arguments that have been made before. A letter with nothing to add to a
debate is unlikely to be published or impress the reader.
Back it up with facts, when needed
Your statements, justifications and data need to be logical as well as fact-
based. Do not beat around the bush or share fictional information.
Don’t get personal
Don’t attack the editor, the newspaper, or the authors of previous letters.
Venomous letters rarely get published. You can express anger in your
letter, but try to focus that anger on the issue rather than a particular
person and don’t write anything which could get you sued!
Edit and proofread
In exams, ensure that you avoid Spelling or Grammatical Errors.
In real life - Finish your letter and put it aside for an hour. Look at it with
fresh eyes. Do the arguments make sense? Is it written logically? If you
are worried about your expression, spelling or grammar, get a friend to
look over it for you.

Sir
Subject: Water crisis in Kavi Nagar
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the
concerned authorities towards the problem of water scarcity in our locality.
It is still early summer and the residents are already facing acute water shortage in the area.
The supply is cut off at 8.30 a.m. and is restored only for half an hour in the evening between
6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Since the timings are erratic, many people, especially, the working couples
are unable to store water. Frequent complaints to the Jal Board haven’t yielded any result as
the authorities express their helplessness saying that one of the tanks of the Hyderpur Water
Treatment Plant is under repair and has been shut down for a month or so thereby affecting
the water supply in the area. But it is nearly one and a half months since the problem began,
yet there is no respite to the residents.
The Jal Board should, in the meantime, make provisions for water tankers at different horns
of the day. Also, measures must be taken to expedite the repair work.
Yours sincerely

Subject: Regarding the poor condition of roads in the residential areas of sector 4,
Kurukshetra
Respected Sir
I am a resident of Sector 4, Kurukshetra. This communication is about the poor conditions of
roads in our area.
We wish to bring it to the notice of authorities through your esteemed daily. Despite repeated
requests and representations, the concerned departments have not done any corrective
actions. The roads, that were made 05 years ago, are in a poor condition. The contractors
were expected to repair it every year. However, nothing has happened to solve the issue.
To add to the troubles for the residents, during the rains, the situation becomes really
challenging. People driving two-wheelers often get hurt badly. Children are at the worst end
of this issue. They do not have safety while they walk or even try to play. The matter has been
brought to the notice of the concerned officials multiple times and the copies of the letter
sent to them are attached with this letter.
We request you to carry our concern in the editorial or as a piece of news so that this matter
comes to light for the…
Thanking you.
Yours sincerely
