Morton Thiokoling
Mr. Ebeling never recovered from the disaster, I ve been under terrible stress since the accident, he
told The Houston Chronicle in 1987. I have headaches. I cry. I have bad dreams. I go into a hypnotic
trance almost daily. He soon left Thiokol and the engineering profession. For the rest of his life he
faulted himself for not doing enough to prevent the launch (Grimes p.2). Robert Ebeling was one of
the Morton Thiokol engineers who knew that the Challenger space shuttle would explode. The
Challenger disaster occurred in 1986, and in the early 1980s, earlier versions of the shuttle had been
launched. There were signs of problems with the O rings, but they were never resolved, resulting in a
catastrophe. Engineers from Morton Thiokol, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two most important seals are O rings, essentially large doughnut shaped pieces of synthetic rubber
that fill the tiny gap between two cylindrical segments that are bolted together. The O rings are
themselves protected from heat and flame damage by an initial barrier of putty (Boffey p.2). O rings
are designed to be tight to ensure that gases do not leak through them, so they themselves must be
protected from heat. Robert Ebeling knew that the rubber O rings that were supposed to seal the joints
between the booster rocket s segments would not perform well in cold weather, and Florida was about
to launch the shuttle in temperatures more than 30 degrees lower than any previous launch (Grimes
p.1). This seemingly minor piece would affect the entire shuttle if there was even the slightest
malfunction. O rings that are unable to seal the joints would create leaks, eventually leading to a
disaster. The critical problem, it added, was that rotational forces generated as pressure builds up
within the rocket caused a lifting off or unseating of the secondary ring, a problem which has been
known for quite some time. One proposal for eliminating this problem, the memorandum said was a
capture feature, not otherwise described, which would prevent the seal from lifting off (Boffey p.4). A
report stated that the secondary or backup ring for the primary

Summary Of Walk Well My Brother By Farley Mowat
As a plane crashes somewhere in northern Canada, two passengers have been left to survive on their
own, but first, they must recognize and put aside their significant differences. In the short story Walk
Well My Brother by Farley Mowat, Charlie, a white, male, airplane operator, and Konala, a young,
indigenous, woman living in Yellowknife. Charlie has many differences from Konala. Charlie is
ignorant while Konala is intelligent, Charlie is selfish while Konala is selfless, and Charlie is not good
at dealing with stressful situations and Konala, on the other hand, is very good at dealing with stressful
situations.
To begin, In the short story Walk Well My Brother the characters Charlie and Konala are different
because Charlie is ignorant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point in the story, Charlie and Konala are traveling for help while at the same time looking for
food and new places to stay in the night. A bear is spotted by Konala in the field, and it is heading
towards them Konala swerved away, even though this brought her closer to the bear. [...] she was
attempting to distract the beast (Mowat 80). During this time in the story, Konala is taking care of,
feeding, and giving Charlie all the means to live. This act of courage by Konala clearly shows the
selflessness and kindness of herself to the extent that she distracted a bear to give Charlie a better
chance of surviving. Charlie s characteristic of selfishness is seen throughout the story but most of all
during the beginning of the story when Charlie was in Yellowknife. A young Eskimo touched his arm
and pointed to the tent, as he went over he said, Theses huskies might have a few white fox pelts to
trade (Mowat 171). This quote shows that the only reason Charlie went into the tent was not to see if
everything was okay but it was to see if there was anything he could get out of walking over to the
tent, in turn being very selfish. At this point in the story Charlie is asked to fly Konala to a hospital,
and at first, he says no, but one of the other men shows two walrus tusks [...] of exceptional quality
(Mowat 172).

Conflict In Inherit The Wind
People often believe teachers, friends, and parents are the ones that teach them the most in life.
Although this may be true, a work of literature can also teach a person many valuable life lessons that
no one else can. In a work of literature, all themes connect to one significant lesson. Lawrence and
Lee s Inherit The Wind has rich themes that demonstrate the world resist change. One important theme
is to always be open minded. Equally important, is the theme that differences can tear people apart.
Not to mention, freedom of thought is also a critical theme. Therefore, themes in Inherit The Wind
shows the struggle of change to occur. Firstly, to always be open minded is an influential message sent
by the writer that contributes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is revealed through Drummond s arguments for Bert throughout the trail. For instance,
Drummond s point for mentioning a sponges right to think is explained when he states, This man
wishes to be accorded the same privileges as a sponge! He wishes to think! (Lawrence and Lee 94).
Drummond is fighting on Bert s behalf to have the ability to think. Hillsboro is refusing to let Bert
think and teach what he knows because they are hesitant towards transition. Additionally. Freedom of
thought is also demonstrated through Rachel s struggling journey towards independence meanwhile
resistance is shown. For example, Rachel finally starts to think for herself when she says, You see, I
haven t really though very much. I was always afraid of what I might think so it seemed safer not to
think at all. But now I know. A thought is like a child inside our body It has to be born (Lawrence and
Lee 124). Certainly, these words Rachel expresses shows that she finally realized she has the ability to
think and explains why she was so resistant towards thinking about evolution. Due to these reasons,
Drummond s representation for Bert, and Rachel both illustrate freedom of thought and supports the
fact that people will always resist

The I Drove My Friend s Diesel Station Wagon
The first time I drove my friend s diesel station wagon, I was impressed. How it seemingly sipped
single droplets of fuel amazed me. In contrast, my father s pickup truck guzzles gasoline like a
drunkard downs alcohol. In our time of expensive petroleum and tight environmental restrictions, an
automobile that can travel farther with less fuel means everything. Today, the very word diesel is
synonymous with efficiency and reliability, and most importantly, savings for the people. But
throughout our country s history, diesel has seen storm and calm, rain and shine. To understand its
significance to us in the 21st century, we must explore the history of the word, from how it came to be,
to how it has defined hope and progress, disdain and disappointment, advancement and recognition.
Most of all, we must examine its relevance to people of the times. In the Oxford English Dictionary,
diesel is defined as a type of internal combustion engine invented by Rudolf Diesel. ( Diesel ) In 1893,
Mr. Diesel patented the first working prototype of his concept, created with the goal of overcoming
the major drawback of the gasoline engine, high fuel consumption. As Diesel collaborated with
manufactures to build upon his designs, the automotive world quickly realized the advantage of such
an engine. Diesel s engines were capable of running on a variety of fuels that were cheaper than
gasoline, including tar oil, paraffin oil, and kerosene, and using less of it. They also proved to be

Desegregation Of The United States
The education system in the United States has gone through many changes spanning all the way from
the 1800 s to today. The integration of other races and cultures into our schools have played in integral
part in the historical development of the U.S. educational system. It has also allowed more access to
all students to experience education. The desegregation of schools also started the conversation about
allowing Blacks to have equal access to the same water fountains, public transportation, restrooms,
and public spaces, as Whites. It is important to note the differences between desegregation and
integration. The distinction between these two terms are crucial because in the constitution law the
Supreme Court has never enforced integration, but does prohibit segregation. Desegregation is defined
as provisions articulated in law or practice that eliminate the isolation of members of a particular
group into separate functional units (ASHE Higher Education Report p.12). Integration is the
incorporation of individuals and groups as equals into society. Desegregation had to take place before
integration could even begin to become a proposal. During the mid to late 1800 s there were several
laws and court cases taking place which slowly led up to the gradual start of the desegregation
movement. Black education in the South was virtually nonexistent before the Civil War and very
limited in Northern states. Once the civil war ended, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed and

Frederick Douglass And The Fight For Women s Suffrage
Frederick Douglass was a major black male voice in the fight for women s suffrage. Douglass unlike
many men believed that women too were people and deserved all of the rights a man was given. He
believed this because black men were previously apart from the equality of all men, and they too
should be apart in gaining this equality for all. Douglass, along with other strong willed women,
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, among others, they
became the forefront of Women s Suffrage in the 1848 Convention on Woman s Rights at Seneca
Falls.
After the Civil War granting African Americans their freedom, Frederick Douglass became a political
activist against the institution of slavery. He combined his efforts with John Brown, an abolitionist,
engaging in strong minded debates in figuring out whether the U.S Constitution was proslavery,
antislavery, created for the well being of all men or only white men. Douglass gained the knowledge
of political reform and how to go about movements, in his case, abolition movements, and later on
assisting in women rights movements. He learned that being looked upon in politics, as an intelligent
and well respected individual without pursuing force would be the best way to gain his victory. His
goal was to persuade the American public opinion against slavery, while praising democratic freedom
and progression of American principles, reaching audiences of all sexes and races. He also pointed out

Autogenics Research Paper
Currently we live in a society where our Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) is overworked and
consistently stressed. There are some solutions to help us reverse the stress and get our Para
Sympathetic Nervous System (PSNS) activated when we need to recover. Two such methods are
autogenics and biogenics. These methods are very similar but biogenics uses devices and technology
to achieve the goal of relaxation. Autogenic Therapy, was initially created by the German Neuro
Psychiatrist Dr. Johannes Schultz in the 1920 s and it was subsequently shared with the medical
establishment. Over the next few decades Schultz and his associate, Dr. Wolfgang Luther dedicated
their combined energy over the next few decades, to fine tune Autogenics into the useful ... Show

I used the CD provide by our textbook to try out the Augenics sequence a few times to begin to get a
feel of how I could benefit from the practice. Furthermore, I used our stress management workbook
questions to evaluate my responses: What were your first impressions when completing the audio
session of Autogenic training? Did this exercise make you more aware of slight changes in warmth
and heaviness in the body? I found the CD relaxing initially I didn t feel any changes in the warmth or
heaviness in my body. However, by the third session I was able to distinguish a subtle difference in
my limbs that was like a bit a tingling. I am still working at trying to apply the method to everyday
situations. The workbook questions asks me to compare autogenics to other forms of relaxation I have
tried. In another class I learned about meditation and I have been trying to use it fairly often. The
difference between the meditation I used and autogenics is the guidance that the sequence gives you.
Autogenics makes you more aware of your body and it s functions. My mediation is done to music

Differences Of The Computer System
c) The output I received from dir /O was the same I received when I used the dir /L command. One of
the differences between the two commands is that one returned the subfolders in lowercase (L) and the
other in uppercase (O). The dir /O command returns the subdirectories inside my work directory in
sorted order, but in this case there wasn t much difference because Windows sorted out this specific
subfolder by default. As I looked deeper into the output, I found another difference between one
command and the other. When I used the L command, the return displayed the document 57 untitled
1.py before the videos directory, as opposed to the O command that displayed the .py file in the end of
the list. The reason behind this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example the command dir /s /w /p would list all the files and folders in the current directory and
the subfolders after that, one page at a time. Since my current directory is Chris the output to this
command displayed more information than I can share. I will share just a sample of the entire output.
d) dir (No file or subfolder was found during the execution of the command. I believe the reason to
this is that the OS blocks any access to that folder. If files or subfolders are modified the OS could
stop functioning.) After multiple tries I have realized that none of the nine commands work. One of
the reasons why is that absolute path and relative path are invalid commands. There has to be another
way to navigate through absolute and relative paths than with the commands used in this exercise.
Also, this exercise is misleading because the result of a command depends of the location of the
current directory and the directory to begin from is not specified in the instructions. Also, I don t need
a command to know what the absolute and relative paths are in any case given. In number 1 for
example, the entire address constitutes the absolute path: C:WINDOWSWeb . In this case since I am
working in the Web directory, the relative path would be WindowsWeb . The absence of the slash
makes a difference when determining whether the path is absolute or relative. Below is a screenshot
that justifies my way of thinking. 1 Functions of the

Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And The Poisonwood...
Imagine a man suddenly cast into a world he could never have dreamed of. He would be shocked by
the unfamiliarity all around him, from the people to the plants, and confused of what to do. A man cut
off from what he knows is only left with two options either to reject his new circumstances or find a
way to assimilate to his new society. This man will either try to find a way to return back to his world,
or find a way to adjust his life to his surroundings. Throughout history, separate cultures have collided,
and with each collision they have either melded together or rejected each other. The novels Heart of
Darkness and The Poisonwood Bible both portray how every individual reacts differently when their
ways of life collide with foreign ones,by either rejecting the foreign society, or accepting it and
creating a merger of cultures. Although both novels describe characters finding themselves at these
crossroads, the differences between the novels portray the effects of an individual s wants and needs
when deciding how to react to new cultures. Although individuals may share the same beliefs and
customs, their reactions to changes in their surroundings can differ greatly. Based on the views of
those around her, Ruth May initially views the Congolese as cannibal natives [that] would boil [her]
and eat [her] up (Kingsolver 21). Similarly, Marlow exhibits racist behavior to the natives as he
describes them animalistically by stating that they had tails that waggled to and

Moral Education In School Education
In contemporary American society, the most important purpose of schooling is improving the lives of
students by attempting to improve equality through equality of opportunity and equal treatment. The
youth of America face many hardships, and these hardships are often characterized by intersectionality
in the increase of difficulty when multiple factors play a role. In many instances educators and the
schools are often the first if not only advocate for a student therefore recognizing issues in the student
s lives is of the highest priority. Examples of hardships faced by students are low socioeconomic status
and its effect on educational achievement (Spring, 2016), the personal development of the child
including the effects by prejudices and racism on the ability of a child to progress, home issues
leading to difficulty in an out of the school system (Spring, 2016), and the level of preparation
achieved by students for a successful career whether that be vocational or academic. In addition to
reducing hardships faced by students, schools are tasked with giving students moral education to
create unity and reduce crime. Therefore, schooling should help to address these hardships and meet
the demands of the public to ultimately improve students lives and promote equality of education.
The socioeconomic status of a child greatly affects their school performance. Therefore, the ever
growing poverty among children of all races in our country is an important contemporary issue to

Title: Global warming, a natural interglacial change on temperature.
Abstract:
Global warming has been widely discussed all around the world as it is an issue that affects the living
of all mankind in the world. It is argued that the anthropogenic changes posse more influence on the
climate change to the Earth, compared to the naturally driven glacial and interglacial changes in
temperature. This report is based on the Vostok Core by faculty at Columbia University as an example
for us to investigate global climate change. Author of this report believes global warming is just part
of the long term temperature fluctuation during the interglacial period as there is no convincing and
valid evidence that shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CO2, dust and CH4 are the main source of greenhouses gases, which are produced mainly by human
activities. If that is the case, the composition of CO2, dust and CH4 should be coherent to the change
of temperature of the Earth. Yet, it is not shown from the data.
Moreover, there are lots of different factors that keep affecting the temperature of the Earth. The
energy of the sun, the albedo effect, Milakovitch Cycles, plate tectonics are the examples of the
factors that affect the temperature.
Conclusion
To conclude, based the given data, it is difficult to prove that anthropogentic changes are stronger than
the glacial and interglacial changes in temperature, as there are not enough valid evidence from the
lab. Studying climate change is not a short term issue. However, due to the limited technology level
and the knowledge of the Earth, we could not obtain concise data to investigate the climate change.
The ice core could be one of the proxies that help us to understand the climatic condition in the past. It
is suggested to compare more other proxies, in order to draw conclusion of the main reason and the
trend of climate change.

Nelson Mandela Analysis
The relationship that develops between Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar in the movie Invictus
suggests how crucial of a role they play as leaders to the people of South Africa. Even though, Pienaar
is white and Mandela is black, they both work towards uniting a divided nation despite their
differences. Regarding Nelson Mandela, he uses his voice and presidential power to find a way in
which he can unite the whites and blacks of South Africa. When he discovers that sports, particularly
rugby, can be used as a method to unite the people of South Africa to cheer for one team despite how
divided its people may be, it signifies how influential and wise of a leader he is to the people of South
Africa. This is so inspiring for me because he found an interest that both the whites and blacks of
South Africa have in common that will help bridge the gap between them despite their troubled history
with each other. Some characteristics of Mandela that indicate how influential of a leader he became
for the people of South Africa is because of his transparence, empathy, courtesy, and humility.
Mandela served as such a vital figure as a leader in uniting South Africa through his devotion to the
rugby team. He understood how influential this team was to the entire nation, and he made every
effort to establish a close relationship with the team by frequently meeting and speaking with the
players and attending their games. Due to his valiant efforts, he did everything he could to help inspire
the team by investing so much time into their success as a leader to the point where they felt that they
would have failed the entire nation had they not won the World Cup. Now, this surge of success
among the rugby team was ignited by the captain of the team himself, Francois Pienaar. Francois
Pienaar developed into a very crucial leader for not only the South African rugby team, but for the
people of South Africa. He not only led the rugby team to success on the field, but due to his close
relationship with Mandela he was able to inspire and motivate his teammates towards winning the
World Cup. For Pienaar, winning the World Cup meant so much more to him than simply having the
opportunity to hold up a trophy, but rather to provoke

Analytical Essay On Night By Elie Wiesel
I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We
must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the
tormentor, never the tormented. (Elie Wiesel) The book Night by Elie Wiesel tells his story of trying to
survive in a concentration camp during the holocaust. Family is an important part of the story because
it shows us that family can be what keeps some people alive, family becomes important when things
get rough, and that once you lose your humanity family means nothing.
First and foremost, family is important when things get rough. In the beginning of the book the Nazis
were rounding up Jews in the Ghettos. The families in the Ghettos did their best to stick together but
some families were broken apart. When Elie and his father get to the concentration camp they do their
best to stay together. Elie says he s 18 and his dad says that he is 40. It keeps them alive and together.

Effective Communication Analysis
One powerful component of constructive communication is the capability to be an effective listener.
Our conversations will continue to reach dead ends if we do not realize where we may lack in our
listening skills, decide to make improvements, and follow through. Therefore, we are left with two
options when we learn we do not listen well, continue to listen the way we have been or make the
conscious effort to improve and become sharpened listeners. This is one area of my life that I was
made aware of over a year ago. I do not listen! I used to listen to respond, which was an unhealthy
way to communicate. In listening to respond we are putting a higher value to our thoughts then that of
the speaker. As discussed in our text some of warnings that one may not be a good listener is having
the speaker repeat information already given, criticizing the speakers form of giving information,
breaking the conversation to give your input, either orally or mentally, and giving the speaker the false
gratification that you are listening (Hamilton. C. pp. 119, 120). I used to be the breaker in the ... Show

The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic...
Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is one
of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with
the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible
mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes
as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors
that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low
fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon cancer as well. The purpose of this
study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer.
Methods:
A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of 183
patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having
colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding
demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period between
endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records.
Results:
Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had adenomas
while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. The mean age was 61.1+/ 11 years and 80 +/ 12.2 years

A Critique Of Dr. Jay E. Adams
A Critique of Dr. Jay E. Adams, Dr. William Backus Marie Chapian Counseling Theories
Belinda Jeanette Prescott
Liberty University A Critique of Dr. Jay E. Adams, Dr. William Backus Marie Chapian Counseling
Theories Concise Summary of Theory Adams (1986), has developed a four step process in which he
lines up and bases off of II Timothy 3:14 17, the four steps include, teaching, conviction, correction,
and disciplined training in righteousness. Adams says just as evangelism always must precede
edification, these four steps must always occur in the same order (p. 13). Adams bases his counseling
concept on these four steps and II Timothy 3:14 17. Adams (1986) is not one to integrate psychology
into the Christian counseling process. Adams (1986) teaches in this book that Scripture is the only way
to counsel people and that integrating psychology into the counseling practice goes against scripture.
Backus (2000) gives a three step process to becoming a happy person, they include realizing your
misbeliefs, removing your misbeliefs, and replacing those misbeliefs with truth. He references
Proverbs 23:7a which reads For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he (KJV). This is telling us that
however we think of ourselves in our hearts, we will believe those thoughts as truths even if they are
lies. Satan has a way of creeping into our thought lives and altering the thought pattern of those who
will let him, when a person is weak, and not strong in the Scriptures, this

Youth Center and Club has given me so many amazing opportunities to interact with other kids my
own age, as well as being a mentor to the younger kids. We moved to Grand Forks, ND from Naples,
Italy in 2011. This was a really difficult time for me as we had been living overseas for 11 years. I had
only known Guam and Italy, so moving to the States was a huge adjustment.
I began to attend Thompson Middle School which did not go very well in the beginning. I was very
depressed as I was being bullied every day. I was different; I was a military brat with a disability and
had never attended anything but military schools on a base. Coming from overseas ... Show more

Zoos And The Conservation Of Animals
A family is enjoying a trip to their local zoo when they stop to look at the tigers. The child sprints over
to exhibit with excitement; he notices a red sign stuck the glass of the enclosure which reads,
Endangered. Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they let
them back into the wild to live free? Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the
unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding Never. It has become noticeably evident that zoos
are not a current resource for the protection of rare and endangered species. Animals should not be
kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no education
about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally.
Primarily, zoos fail at the conservation of animal species. Zoos claim that certain species would
become extinct if places like zoos did not exist, but they ultimately fail at the conservation of animal
species. Animals who are endangered will likely never be released back into natural habitats ( Zoos:
Pitiful Prisons par. 9). The Author of Captive Animal Protection Society states, Many zoos have no
contact of any kind with any reintroduction program, meaning that once the animals are introduced to
zoos, they are likely to remain there. One U.S. study found no compelling evidence for zoos and
aquariums to make the claim that they promote interest of conservation upon conversing with

Turritopsis Dohrnii
People in western culture fear death. Which when you start to think about it is kind of odd. But
throughout history there have been many ways to improve our life spans from medicine to surgery,
But so far there have only been legends of ways to make yourself live for ever. How ever one really
real way of doing this is in the Mediterranean sea and it s a blob of jelly. The Turritopsis Dohrnii is a
jellyfish that can live forever. Other than the ability to live for ever it s really not that special. Having
up to 90 tentacles only 4.5mm in width it s smaller than your fingernail. It was discovered in the
Mediterranean Sea, but has been in areas as far away as japan. It s mostly transparent, except for it s
red stomach. Which they fill with small mollusks, fish eggs and planton. Which they catch like any
other jellyfish, with a stinging cell. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because it changes its entire body structure. What it does is when it s injured, hungry or stressed it
brings its tentacle up into itself and turns its cells to that of a sexualy imature polyp. Whose DNA is
identical to the adults, because of this scientist have found nearly genetically identical jellies across

The Temperance Movement Essay
In the early parts of the 20th Century, Canada experimented with banning alcohol consumption. There
were some exceptions to this, but most of Canada s Provincial governments issued some sort of
prohibitory laws. The exception being Québec who only prohibited hard liquor, meaning that they
allowed the production and consumption of beverages, such as, beer. This drive towards prohibition
started during the mid 19th Century. It all started during the Temperance Movement, when proponents
voluntarily abstained from alcohol. This abstention was due to alcohol s, perceived, moral downfalls.
However, slowly, the various provinces reversed their restrictions on alcohol and moved from
prohibition to system of coordination. There were several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They thought that ridding the world of alcohol was necessary for their saviors return. They used the
Temperance Movement as a means to achieve their ultimate goal social salvation. The Temperance
Movement was not just about abstaining, or riding the world from alcohol, but it was all about
religion. In fact, the movement had a positive correlation with religion; which, meaning that when
religious fever increases so does the popularity of the Temperance Movement . In essence, the
temperance was a religious, moral, crusade to prepare society for the second coming of the one true
savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, this shows that the Temperance Movement was a religious movement
as well.
The movement went further than just trying to cleanse society from the grips of alcohol. It centered on
the health and well being of the family unit. The movement consisted of various different
organizations. Two examples of numerous temperance groups are The Bands of Hope of the Sons of
Temperance (BHST) and the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The BHST for instance
encouraged children to abstain from liquor, tobacco, and bad language. This shows that the
Temperance Movement wanted to go beyond alcohol reform. It could be argued that all fore
mentioned things are immoral, thus they must be abstained from. The reformers also tried to change,
or create, a new definition of what it is to be a real man. The proponents of temperance said that real

Operation Desert Storm Case Study
Near the end of the gulf war in 1991, Saddam Hussein was fighting a losing battle. Operation Desert
Storm, a joint effort to liberate Kuwait, was in it s final stretches. While retreating out of Kuwait, the
Iraqi troops set around 700 oil wells on fire as well as damaging another 100 that were left flowing oil.
Saddam targeted Kuwait s petroleum because he felt that Iraq bordered all of Kuwait and therefore
was entitled to its oil and could easily take control of it. Kuwait s petroleum industry also makes up
95% of Kuwait s export earnings which targets their biggest industry by far and weakened the country.

Explain Why I Want To Be An Obstetrician
Have you thought about your career in the future? Most people in my school know what they want
their career for them to be. For example, my cousin who is now a senior, decided that he wanted to go
to the military, like many other young men. Even I, a twelve year old girl, knows and planned what
she wants to do in the future. I will try really hard to become obstetrician, a type a doctor who delivers
babies. The reason for my choice is because of many things about them except the money. That is why
I always try really hard in school and it pays off. I chose my career, now it is your turn.
One of the reasons I want to be an obstetrician is because I, as any other person, admire there work. I
do not care how much money I will get paid because the only reason I want to be an obstetrician is
because I have always admired them because they are the people who help bring new life into our
world. They also delivered me, and my whole family so I should be thankful for that. If it was not for
them I would not have been on this world and neither would other people and that would not be a

The Chemical Element Calcium
What is Calcium? The chemical element Calcium (Ca) is a malleable, ductile, soft metal. It s located
in period four and group two of the periodic table. Calcium atoms have 20 electrons and 20 protons,
there are two valence electrons in the outer shells. Its mass number is approximately 40.08. Calcium
has four stable isotopes including 40Ca, 42Ca, 43Ca, and 44Ca; 97% of naturally occurring calcium is
in the isotope 40Ca. Isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons and electrons, but a
different number of neutrons. In nature, calcium does not appear as a metal itself instead it appears in
the form of rocks and minerals such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. Calcium can be found in
countries such as Russia, China, USA, and France.

A Short Story Of Lady Eruanna

outside of the king apos;s Main Hall.
He hesitated, but decided not to go in to see the king. The news of his companions may not have been
decided yet.
Wandering the place, he headed into the stables to check on Andrin. The stable was quite big in
architecture, housing about 20 magnificent horses.
Fleeter immediately spotted Andrin, for he stood out with his pure black body and mane, for horses
like him were only owned by Rangers.
He walked up to his stall, and stroked his black mane. Andrin neighed, sending mixed signals that

Fleeter didn apos;t want to bring down her light hearted spirit, but he could not help himself.
quot; They apos;re fine. But I fear some might end up being hunted down. quot; He said with a solemn

quot;The Humans have started the Huntings again. I ran into some on my way here. quot;
Eruanna looked apon him with sympathy. quot;I apos;m sorry, quot; she whispered.
He turned to face her, and realized how sad she suddenly looked.
quot;It is not your fault, nor would I ever blame you for my own troubles, quot; he whispered to her

this he would sometimes do stuff wrong and he would get mad. Before his hand got injured he would

Never Let Me Go Annotation
Biologically, a human is a homo sapien. However, when we begin to analyze the acts that constitute
human behavior, the criteria of being human becomes difficult to characterize. The definition of
humanness becomes not what holds us together, but what makes us different. Kazuo Ishiguro s novel,
Never Let Me Go, narrates the life of Kathy H, a clone that is raised in isolation with her fellow clones
at Hailsham, an academy that prepares its students to complete their lives as organ donors. Because
Kathy lives an expedited life filled with the human emotions of love, pain, and jealousy, the audience
is convinced of the humanness shared by each student until Ishiguro critically reveals the process of
donations. The discussion is redirected from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The regulations by the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) define human subjects as
those whom the researcher can obtain consent and identifiable private information (10). Ishiguro
highlights Kathy s cognitive ability and childhood history to classify the clones as human research
subjects. In addition, the OHRP mandates that every scientific experiment provides the opportunity to
consider whether or not to participate and that minimize the possibility of coercion or undue influence
(19). Though Kathy and her fellow clones believe an illusion of consent with the gossip of delaying
donations, they are indoctrinated from an early age to subdue any resistance against the system. As a
result, the enforcement of donations becomes unethical because the clones are stripped of any
opportunity to consent with minimal influences or withdraw from the process. Paralleling the
malpractice of donations, the Tuskegee experiment provides a historical and racial perspective. The
Ad Hoc Advisory Panel judged the study to be unethical for the lack of informed consent amongst the
African American participants. The Panel argues, people who may be selected for human
experimentation, and who, because of their station in life, may not have an equal chance to withhold
consent (11). As a result, the scope of humanness is expanded to include those targeted in the

The Importance And Cons Of The Nicene Creed
Christians overwhelmingly attest that monotheism is key to the Christian confidence, as the Nicene
Creed (and others), which gives the customary Christian meaning of the Trinity, starts: I have faith in
one God . From sooner than the seasons of the Nicene Creed, 325 CE, different Christian figures
pushed the triune secret nature of God as a standardizing calling of confidence. As per Roger E. Olson
and Christopher Hall, through supplication, contemplation, study and practice, the Christian people
group finished up that God must exist as both a solidarity and trinity , arranging this in ecumenical
chamber toward the finish of the fourth century.
Most current Christians trust the Godhead is triune, implying that the three people of the Trinity are in
one union in which every individual is additionally completely God. They additionally hold to the
precept of a man god Christ Jesus as God incarnate. These Christians additionally don t trust that one
of the three heavenly figures is God alone and the other two are not but rather that each of the three
are strangely God and one. Some Christian religions, for example, Mormonism, contend that the
Godhead is in reality three separate people which incorporate God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ,
and the Holy Ghost. Every individual having an unmistakable reason in the fantastic presence of
mankind. Besides, Mormons trust that before the Council of Nicaea, the dominating conviction among
numerous early Christians was that the

Analysis Of Mccloskey s On Being An Atheist
In McCloskey s (1968) article On Being an Atheist , the arguments for the existence of God are
rebutted and some compelling reasons are given in order to enlighten some other atheists who might
be struggling to defend their beliefs. Firstly, McCloskey (1968) opens his discussion by asserting that
the three main proofs (teleological, cosmological, and argument from design) of God s existence are
not the basic nor the right proofs with which to arrive at a vague (p.51) conclusion that states the
existence of a necessary being. These proofs have not been considered by the serious theologians, but
instead, they have been the excuse of the parson (McCloskey, 1968). However, McCloskey misses the
point made by such arguments by assuming that such defenses are a definite proof of the existence of
God. To regard something as a proof, one must know that the argument being made is certain and
incorrigible, but the arguments made by the theist are said to be defeasible, not incorrigible or certain
(Foreman, 2012). This mean that the arguments can be regarded as true unless a defeater, which if it
were true, would defeat the argument (Foreman, 2012). Then, if the classical arguments used by the
theist to advocate for God s existence are defeasible and not proofs as McCloskey claims, and no
defeater has been shown to be true, there is no need to abandon such arguments.
Secondly, McCloskey discusses the cosmological argument and states that there is no reason for
believing that the

Why I Want For My Live Negotiation Paper
When it comes to conflicts and negotiations I have always been the type of person to avoid them. The
reasons I avoided them was because I did not know how to handle these situations properly. When it
came to conflicts or negotiations, I would have no medium. Either I would be calm during those
conflicts or I would get really mad. Those two options were not good for me or good for the people I
was trying to resolve conflicts with. After taking this course I learned that I have the avoiding style in
the TKI assessment. This assessment has helped me with strategies I could use in the avoiding style,
and has also taught me how to use different strategies from various different styles. For my live
negotiation paper I choose to negotiate a topic with my boyfriend that is very true and dear to my
heart. He is a lawyer and it is really hard to negotiate with him. We have had various conversations
about having a baby. However, we continue to argue about whether I should lose twenty pounds or
not. I have tried to express different reasons as to why I shouldn t have to lose the weight, but my
ideas and concerns got pushed aside all the time. I would eventually go into my avoiding style and just
stop talking or give up on the topic. I d get angry because I felt like I wasn t being heard. I had even
tried some tactics in the competing style, although I had not known what that was until I took this
course, but in the end I think that I was using them wrong. The conflict that I have is

that the share of fixed costs in the overall transportation cost is much high in Europe versus North

There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade.
Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these
challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs. Freight
and air transportation both depend on petroleum. Typically, the times of higher energy prices creates a
rationalization in the international trade market and the underlying supply chains.
Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state. Due
to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member states to
adopt the policy. One of the greatest outcomes of the European Union applying and sticking to their

The Heating Phases That Occurred During The Experiment Essay
1. Figure 1 shows the heating phases that occurred during the experiment. There is an exponential
decrease in temperature as the depth of the water increases. Water has a high specific heat capacity
which means that it can resist changes in temperature. This is coupled with the fact that solar radiation
progressively loses its penetrative ability as the depth of the water increases. The light attenuation in
lakes describes the decrease in actual light that can penetrate a water column as well as the fact that
most of the energy that the light has is absorbed by the surface of the water.
2. The end of step 4 during the experiment creates the tripartite thermal structure within the lake
substitute. This is composed of three parts called the epilimnion, the thermocline and the hypolimnion.
The epilimnion represents the surface of the lake which experiences the most heat during the summer
and has the highest temperature compared to the other parts of the thermal structure. The thermocline
is the section of water that has the large exponential decrease in temperature. This is shown in figure 1
at the end of the heating phase, the temperature decreases by a large amount as the depth increases
from 1cm to 9cm. Finally there is the hypolimnion which is shown in figure 1 in all phases as the cold
part of the water column. This is the most unaffected part, as the solar radiation does not effectively
penetrate that deep into the water hence the temperature stays almost constant. The

Sicily is too far away and too numerous to be ruled even if conquered . Nicias recognized the complex
nature of the expedition. In order to succeed, the expedition had to assemble a huge armada and army
that required support from the entire Athenian empire (food, money, forces, etc). The logistical
difficulties to support the expedition alone may be enough to cause it to fail. Additionally, the far
distance between Athens and Sicily would complicate their ability to provide reinforcement. One of
Nicias s main objections to the Sicily Expedition was its Ambiguity. The decision to invade Sicily
fundamentally violated their grand strategy for war with Sparta. The supporters for the expedition had
presented no clearly defined objective, or displayed just intent for the expedition, this he feared would
lead to mission creep. The pretenses of the expedition were to assist an ally that grew to an offensive
operation against Syracuse. In reality, it was a scheme by avarice individuals who saw an opportunity
to expand the empire, while enriching themselves. The conquest of Sicily posed no vital interest to
Athens. The Egestaenas seek help, from their alliance with Athens, for their war against Selinus; they
warned of potential Syracusan domination of Sicily and aid to Sparta. Nicias argued that Syracuse, as
is, posed no threat to the Athenians interest, and even if it took over

Cinematic Techniques In American Beauty
I utilize two scenes from the movie American Beauty, the two office scenes including Lester (Kevin

which is the term used to portray everything put into the scene . I concentrate on decor, lighting and
props, costumes, body language (e.g., posture, gestures and facial expressions) and composition. I
additionally take a gander at how these components are confined as far as camera stature, camera
point and camera separate, all of which fall under the class of cinematography. The scene seems right

the room itself is monstrous, utilitarian, faintly lit, ineffectively enhanced and is terribly dull and dim.
Behind Lester, there is only a diminishing plant stuck in a corner and a work of art that is too little for
the divider. The stylistic layout uncovers what sort of association Lester works for, one that sucks the
life and light out of its representatives. As far as sythesis, the surrounding of the shot is terrible too.
Lester is situated in the middle base of the casing, which is a bizarre place to put the primary subject.
There is to an extreme degree a lot of headroom above him, his feet appear to be removed, a roof light
bulges down into the highest point of the casing. It is an appalling shot in a dim, revolting room; it
serves as a visual appearance of Lester s discontent and unease. Here the shot is a mid shot, and Brad

when compared with the high point wide shot of Lester that we just took a gander at. At the point
when Brad stands up, the low edge shot is further stressed. Outwardly, Brad is displayed as being
prevailing. His stance his straight, he is more youthful, he is dressed all the more stylishly and his
outward appearances uncover pomposity and disdain. Behind him, the vertical Venetian blinds make a

  • 2. Morton Thiokoling Mr. Ebeling never recovered from the disaster, I ve been under terrible stress since the accident, he told The Houston Chronicle in 1987. I have headaches. I cry. I have bad dreams. I go into a hypnotic trance almost daily. He soon left Thiokol and the engineering profession. For the rest of his life he faulted himself for not doing enough to prevent the launch (Grimes p.2). Robert Ebeling was one of the Morton Thiokol engineers who knew that the Challenger space shuttle would explode. The Challenger disaster occurred in 1986, and in the early 1980s, earlier versions of the shuttle had been launched. There were signs of problems with the O rings, but they were never resolved, resulting in a catastrophe. Engineers from Morton Thiokol, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two most important seals are O rings, essentially large doughnut shaped pieces of synthetic rubber that fill the tiny gap between two cylindrical segments that are bolted together. The O rings are themselves protected from heat and flame damage by an initial barrier of putty (Boffey p.2). O rings are designed to be tight to ensure that gases do not leak through them, so they themselves must be protected from heat. Robert Ebeling knew that the rubber O rings that were supposed to seal the joints between the booster rocket s segments would not perform well in cold weather, and Florida was about to launch the shuttle in temperatures more than 30 degrees lower than any previous launch (Grimes p.1). This seemingly minor piece would affect the entire shuttle if there was even the slightest malfunction. O rings that are unable to seal the joints would create leaks, eventually leading to a disaster. The critical problem, it added, was that rotational forces generated as pressure builds up within the rocket caused a lifting off or unseating of the secondary ring, a problem which has been known for quite some time. One proposal for eliminating this problem, the memorandum said was a capture feature, not otherwise described, which would prevent the seal from lifting off (Boffey p.4). A report stated that the secondary or backup ring for the primary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Walk Well My Brother By Farley Mowat As a plane crashes somewhere in northern Canada, two passengers have been left to survive on their own, but first, they must recognize and put aside their significant differences. In the short story Walk Well My Brother by Farley Mowat, Charlie, a white, male, airplane operator, and Konala, a young, indigenous, woman living in Yellowknife. Charlie has many differences from Konala. Charlie is ignorant while Konala is intelligent, Charlie is selfish while Konala is selfless, and Charlie is not good at dealing with stressful situations and Konala, on the other hand, is very good at dealing with stressful situations. To begin, In the short story Walk Well My Brother the characters Charlie and Konala are different because Charlie is ignorant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point in the story, Charlie and Konala are traveling for help while at the same time looking for food and new places to stay in the night. A bear is spotted by Konala in the field, and it is heading towards them Konala swerved away, even though this brought her closer to the bear. [...] she was attempting to distract the beast (Mowat 80). During this time in the story, Konala is taking care of, feeding, and giving Charlie all the means to live. This act of courage by Konala clearly shows the selflessness and kindness of herself to the extent that she distracted a bear to give Charlie a better chance of surviving. Charlie s characteristic of selfishness is seen throughout the story but most of all during the beginning of the story when Charlie was in Yellowknife. A young Eskimo touched his arm and pointed to the tent, as he went over he said, Theses huskies might have a few white fox pelts to trade (Mowat 171). This quote shows that the only reason Charlie went into the tent was not to see if everything was okay but it was to see if there was anything he could get out of walking over to the tent, in turn being very selfish. At this point in the story Charlie is asked to fly Konala to a hospital, and at first, he says no, but one of the other men shows two walrus tusks [...] of exceptional quality (Mowat 172). ... • 4. Conflict In Inherit The Wind People often believe teachers, friends, and parents are the ones that teach them the most in life. Although this may be true, a work of literature can also teach a person many valuable life lessons that no one else can. In a work of literature, all themes connect to one significant lesson. Lawrence and Lee s Inherit The Wind has rich themes that demonstrate the world resist change. One important theme is to always be open minded. Equally important, is the theme that differences can tear people apart. Not to mention, freedom of thought is also a critical theme. Therefore, themes in Inherit The Wind shows the struggle of change to occur. Firstly, to always be open minded is an influential message sent by the writer that contributes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is revealed through Drummond s arguments for Bert throughout the trail. For instance, Drummond s point for mentioning a sponges right to think is explained when he states, This man wishes to be accorded the same privileges as a sponge! He wishes to think! (Lawrence and Lee 94). Drummond is fighting on Bert s behalf to have the ability to think. Hillsboro is refusing to let Bert think and teach what he knows because they are hesitant towards transition. Additionally. Freedom of thought is also demonstrated through Rachel s struggling journey towards independence meanwhile resistance is shown. For example, Rachel finally starts to think for herself when she says, You see, I haven t really though very much. I was always afraid of what I might think so it seemed safer not to think at all. But now I know. A thought is like a child inside our body It has to be born (Lawrence and Lee 124). Certainly, these words Rachel expresses shows that she finally realized she has the ability to think and explains why she was so resistant towards thinking about evolution. Due to these reasons, Drummond s representation for Bert, and Rachel both illustrate freedom of thought and supports the fact that people will always resist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The I Drove My Friend s Diesel Station Wagon The first time I drove my friend s diesel station wagon, I was impressed. How it seemingly sipped single droplets of fuel amazed me. In contrast, my father s pickup truck guzzles gasoline like a drunkard downs alcohol. In our time of expensive petroleum and tight environmental restrictions, an automobile that can travel farther with less fuel means everything. Today, the very word diesel is synonymous with efficiency and reliability, and most importantly, savings for the people. But throughout our country s history, diesel has seen storm and calm, rain and shine. To understand its significance to us in the 21st century, we must explore the history of the word, from how it came to be, to how it has defined hope and progress, disdain and disappointment, advancement and recognition. Most of all, we must examine its relevance to people of the times. In the Oxford English Dictionary, diesel is defined as a type of internal combustion engine invented by Rudolf Diesel. ( Diesel ) In 1893, Mr. Diesel patented the first working prototype of his concept, created with the goal of overcoming the major drawback of the gasoline engine, high fuel consumption. As Diesel collaborated with manufactures to build upon his designs, the automotive world quickly realized the advantage of such an engine. Diesel s engines were capable of running on a variety of fuels that were cheaper than gasoline, including tar oil, paraffin oil, and kerosene, and using less of it. They also proved to be ... • 6. Desegregation Of The United States The education system in the United States has gone through many changes spanning all the way from the 1800 s to today. The integration of other races and cultures into our schools have played in integral part in the historical development of the U.S. educational system. It has also allowed more access to all students to experience education. The desegregation of schools also started the conversation about allowing Blacks to have equal access to the same water fountains, public transportation, restrooms, and public spaces, as Whites. It is important to note the differences between desegregation and integration. The distinction between these two terms are crucial because in the constitution law the Supreme Court has never enforced integration, but does prohibit segregation. Desegregation is defined as provisions articulated in law or practice that eliminate the isolation of members of a particular group into separate functional units (ASHE Higher Education Report p.12). Integration is the incorporation of individuals and groups as equals into society. Desegregation had to take place before integration could even begin to become a proposal. During the mid to late 1800 s there were several laws and court cases taking place which slowly led up to the gradual start of the desegregation movement. Black education in the South was virtually nonexistent before the Civil War and very limited in Northern states. Once the civil war ended, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed and ... • 8. Frederick Douglass And The Fight For Women s Suffrage Frederick Douglass was a major black male voice in the fight for women s suffrage. Douglass unlike many men believed that women too were people and deserved all of the rights a man was given. He believed this because black men were previously apart from the equality of all men, and they too should be apart in gaining this equality for all. Douglass, along with other strong willed women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. • 9. Autogenics Research Paper Currently we live in a society where our Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) is overworked and consistently stressed. There are some solutions to help us reverse the stress and get our Para Sympathetic Nervous System (PSNS) activated when we need to recover. Two such methods are autogenics and biogenics. These methods are very similar but biogenics uses devices and technology to achieve the goal of relaxation. Autogenic Therapy, was initially created by the German Neuro Psychiatrist Dr. Johannes Schultz in the 1920 s and it was subsequently shared with the medical establishment. Over the next few decades Schultz and his associate, Dr. Wolfgang Luther dedicated their combined energy over the next few decades, to fine tune Autogenics into the useful ... The dir /O command returns the subdirectories inside my work directory in sorted order, but in this case there wasn t much difference because Windows sorted out this specific subfolder by default. As I looked deeper into the output, I found another difference between one command and the other. • 11. Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And The Poisonwood... Imagine a man suddenly cast into a world he could never have dreamed of. He would be shocked by the unfamiliarity all around him, from the people to the plants, and confused of what to do. A man cut off from what he knows is only left with two options either to reject his new circumstances or find a way to assimilate to his new society. This man will either try to find a way to return back to his world, or find a way to adjust his life to his surroundings. Throughout history, separate cultures have collided, and with each collision they have either melded together or rejected each other. The novels Heart of Darkness and The Poisonwood Bible both portray how every individual reacts differently when their ways of life collide with foreign ones,by either rejecting the foreign society, or accepting it and creating a merger of cultures. Although both novels describe characters finding themselves at these crossroads, the differences between the novels portray the effects of an individual s wants and needs when deciding how to react to new cultures. Although individuals may share the same beliefs and customs, their reactions to changes in their surroundings can differ greatly. Based on the views of those around her, Ruth May initially views the Congolese as cannibal natives [that] would boil [her] and eat [her] up (Kingsolver 21). • 13. Moral Education In School Education In contemporary American society, the most important purpose of schooling is improving the lives of students by attempting to improve equality through equality of opportunity and equal treatment. The youth of America face many hardships, and these hardships are often characterized by intersectionality in the increase of difficulty when multiple factors play a role. In many instances educators and the schools are often the first if not only advocate for a student therefore recognizing issues in the student s lives is of the highest priority. Examples of hardships faced by students are low socioeconomic status and its effect on educational achievement (Spring, 2016), the personal development of the child including the effects by prejudices and racism on the ability of a child to progress, home issues leading to difficulty in an out of the school system (Spring, 2016), and the level of preparation achieved by students for a successful career whether that be vocational or academic. In addition to reducing hardships faced by students, schools are tasked with giving students moral education to create unity and reduce crime. Therefore, schooling should help to address these hardships and meet the demands of the public to ultimately improve students lives and promote equality of education. If that is the case, the composition of CO2, dust and CH4 should be coherent to the change of temperature of the Earth. Yet, it is not shown from the data. Moreover, there are lots of different factors that keep affecting the temperature of the Earth. The energy of the sun, the albedo effect, Milakovitch Cycles, plate tectonics are the examples of the factors that affect the temperature. Conclusion To conclude, based the given data, it is difficult to prove that anthropogentic changes are stronger than the glacial and interglacial changes in temperature, as there are not enough valid evidence from the lab. • 15. Nelson Mandela Analysis The relationship that develops between Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar in the movie Invictus suggests how crucial of a role they play as leaders to the people of South Africa. Even though, Pienaar is white and Mandela is black, they both work towards uniting a divided nation despite their differences. Regarding Nelson Mandela, he uses his voice and presidential power to find a way in which he can unite the whites and blacks of South Africa. When he discovers that sports, particularly rugby, can be used as a method to unite the people of South Africa to cheer for one team despite how divided its people may be, it signifies how influential and wise of a leader he is to the people of South Africa. This is so inspiring for me because he found an interest that both the whites and blacks of South Africa have in common that will help bridge the gap between them despite their troubled history with each other. Some characteristics of Mandela that indicate how influential of a leader he became for the people of South Africa is because of his transparence, empathy, courtesy, and humility. Mandela served as such a vital figure as a leader in uniting South Africa through his devotion to the rugby team. He understood how influential this team was to the entire nation, and he made every effort to establish a close relationship with the team by frequently meeting and speaking with the players and attending their games. Due to his valiant efforts, he did everything he could to help inspire the team by investing so much time into their success as a leader to the point where they felt that they would have failed the entire nation had they not won the World Cup. Now, this surge of success among the rugby team was ignited by the captain of the team himself, Francois Pienaar. Francois Pienaar developed into a very crucial leader for not only the South African rugby team, but for the people of South Africa. He not only led the rugby team to success on the field, but due to his close relationship with Mandela he was able to inspire and motivate his teammates towards winning the World Cup. This is one area of my life that I was made aware of over a year ago. I do not listen! I used to listen to respond, which was an unhealthy way to communicate. In listening to respond we are putting a higher value to our thoughts then that of the speaker. As discussed in our text some of warnings that one may not be a good listener is having the speaker repeat information already given, criticizing the speakers form of giving information, breaking the conversation to give your input, either orally or mentally, and giving the speaker the false gratification that you are listening (Hamilton. It is one of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon cancer as well. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer. Methods: A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of 183 patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Adams, Dr. William Backus Marie Chapian Counseling Theories Concise Summary of Theory Adams (1986), has developed a four step process in which he lines up and bases off of II Timothy 3:14 17, the four steps include, teaching, conviction, correction, and disciplined training in righteousness. Adams says just as evangelism always must precede edification, these four steps must always occur in the same order (p. 13). Adams bases his counseling concept on these four steps and II Timothy 3:14 17. Adams (1986) is not one to integrate psychology into the Christian counseling process. Adams (1986) teaches in this book that Scripture is the only way to counsel people and that integrating psychology into the counseling practice goes against scripture. Backus (2000) gives a three step process to becoming a happy person, they include realizing your misbeliefs, removing your misbeliefs, and replacing those misbeliefs with truth. He references Proverbs 23:7a which reads For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he (KJV). This is telling us that however we think of ourselves in our hearts, we will believe those thoughts as truths even if they are lies. Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they let them back into the wild to live free? Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding Never. Animals should not be kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no education about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally. In essence, the temperance was a religious, moral, crusade to prepare society for the second coming of the one true savior Jesus Christ. • 32. Never Let Me Go Annotation Biologically, a human is a homo sapien. However, when we begin to analyze the acts that constitute human behavior, the criteria of being human becomes difficult to characterize. The definition of humanness becomes not what holds us together, but what makes us different. Kazuo Ishiguro s novel, Never Let Me Go, narrates the life of Kathy H, a clone that is raised in isolation with her fellow clones at Hailsham, an academy that prepares its students to complete their lives as organ donors. Because Kathy lives an expedited life filled with the human emotions of love, pain, and jealousy, the audience is convinced of the humanness shared by each student until Ishiguro critically reveals the process of donations. The discussion is redirected from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The regulations by the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) define human subjects as those whom the researcher can obtain consent and identifiable private information (10). Ishiguro highlights Kathy s cognitive ability and childhood history to classify the clones as human research subjects. In addition, the OHRP mandates that every scientific experiment provides the opportunity to consider whether or not to participate and that minimize the possibility of coercion or undue influence (19). Though Kathy and her fellow clones believe an illusion of consent with the gossip of delaying donations, they are indoctrinated from an early age to subdue any resistance against the system. As a result, the enforcement of donations becomes unethical because the clones are stripped of any opportunity to consent with minimal influences or withdraw from the process. Paralleling the malpractice of donations, the Tuskegee experiment provides a historical and racial perspective. The Ad Hoc Advisory Panel judged the study to be unethical for the lack of informed consent amongst the African American participants. The Panel argues, people who may be selected for human experimentation, and who, because of their station in life, may not have an equal chance to withhold consent (11). As a result, the scope of humanness is expanded to include those targeted in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance And Cons Of The Nicene Creed Christians overwhelmingly attest that monotheism is key to the Christian confidence, as the Nicene Creed (and others), which gives the customary Christian meaning of the Trinity, starts: I have faith in one God . From sooner than the seasons of the Nicene Creed, 325 CE, different Christian figures pushed the triune secret nature of God as a standardizing calling of confidence. As per Roger E. Olson and Christopher Hall, through supplication, contemplation, study and practice, the Christian people group finished up that God must exist as both a solidarity and trinity , arranging this in ecumenical chamber toward the finish of the fourth century. Most current Christians trust the Godhead is triune, implying that the three people of the Trinity are in one union in which every individual is additionally completely God. They additionally hold to the precept of a man god Christ Jesus as God incarnate. These Christians additionally don t trust that one of the three heavenly figures is God alone and the other two are not but rather that each of the three are strangely God and one. Some Christian religions, for example, Mormonism, contend that the Godhead is in reality three separate people which incorporate God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. • 35. Analysis Of Mccloskey s On Being An Atheist In McCloskey s (1968) article On Being an Atheist , the arguments for the existence of God are rebutted and some compelling reasons are given in order to enlighten some other atheists who might be struggling to defend their beliefs. Firstly, McCloskey (1968) opens his discussion by asserting that the three main proofs (teleological, cosmological, and argument from design) of God s existence are not the basic nor the right proofs with which to arrive at a vague (p.51) conclusion that states the existence of a necessary being. These proofs have not been considered by the serious theologians, but instead, they have been the excuse of the parson (McCloskey, 1968). However, McCloskey misses the point made by such arguments by assuming that such defenses are a definite proof of the existence of God. To regard something as a proof, one must know that the argument being made is certain and incorrigible, but the arguments made by the theist are said to be defeasible, not incorrigible or certain (Foreman, 2012). This mean that the arguments can be regarded as true unless a defeater, which if it were true, would defeat the argument (Foreman, 2012). Then, if the classical arguments used by the theist to advocate for God s existence are defeasible and not proofs as McCloskey claims, and no defeater has been shown to be true, there is no need to abandon such arguments. Secondly, McCloskey discusses the cosmological argument and states that there is no reason for believing that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reasons I avoided them was because I did not know how to handle these situations properly. When it came to conflicts or negotiations, I would have no medium. Either I would be calm during those conflicts or I would get really mad. Those two options were not good for me or good for the people I was trying to resolve conflicts with. After taking this course I learned that I have the avoiding style in the TKI assessment. This assessment has helped me with strategies I could use in the avoiding style, and has also taught me how to use different strategies from various different styles. For my live negotiation paper I choose to negotiate a topic with my boyfriend that is very true and dear to my heart. He is a lawyer and it is really hard to negotiate with him. We have had various conversations about having a baby. However, we continue to argue about whether I should lose twenty pounds or not. I have tried to express different reasons as to why I shouldn t have to lose the weight, but my ideas and concerns got pushed aside all the time. I would eventually go into my avoiding style and just stop talking or give up on the topic. I d get angry because I felt like I wasn t being heard. I had even tried some tactics in the competing style, although I had not known what that was until I took this course, but in the end I think that I was using them wrong. When analyzing the cost structures between the two systems, the results show that the share of fixed costs in the overall transportation cost is much high in Europe versus North America. When transporting freight by railway in North America, rail companies look for the shortest route for each train car while European rail companies devote their focus to the high utilization and consolidation in each train car. The capacity of each train and how the cost is structured differs from North America to Europe due to infrastructural and institutional reason. There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade. Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs. Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state. Due to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member states to adopt the policy. • 38. The Heating Phases That Occurred During The Experiment Essay 1. Figure 1 shows the heating phases that occurred during the experiment. There is an exponential decrease in temperature as the depth of the water increases. Water has a high specific heat capacity which means that it can resist changes in temperature. This is coupled with the fact that solar radiation progressively loses its penetrative ability as the depth of the water increases. The light attenuation in lakes describes the decrease in actual light that can penetrate a water column as well as the fact that most of the energy that the light has is absorbed by the surface of the water. 2. The end of step 4 during the experiment creates the tripartite thermal structure within the lake substitute. This is composed of three parts called the epilimnion, the thermocline and the hypolimnion. The epilimnion represents the surface of the lake which experiences the most heat during the summer and has the highest temperature compared to the other parts of the thermal structure. The thermocline is the section of water that has the large exponential decrease in temperature. This is shown in figure 1 at the end of the heating phase, the temperature decreases by a large amount as the depth increases from 1cm to 9cm. Finally there is the hypolimnion which is shown in figure 1 in all phases as the cold part of the water column. This is the most unaffected part, as the solar radiation does not effectively penetrate that deep into the water hence the temperature stays almost constant. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sicily is too far away and too numerous to be ruled even if conquered . Nicias recognized the complex nature of the expedition. In order to succeed, the expedition had to assemble a huge armada and army that required support from the entire Athenian empire (food, money, forces, etc). The logistical difficulties to support the expedition alone may be enough to cause it to fail. Additionally, the far distance between Athens and Sicily would complicate their ability to provide reinforcement. One of Nicias s main objections to the Sicily Expedition was its Ambiguity. The decision to invade Sicily fundamentally violated their grand strategy for war with Sparta. The supporters for the expedition had presented no clearly defined objective, or displayed just intent for the expedition, this he feared would lead to mission creep. The pretenses of the expedition were to assist an ally that grew to an offensive operation against Syracuse. In reality, it was a scheme by avarice individuals who saw an opportunity to expand the empire, while enriching themselves. The conquest of Sicily posed no vital interest to Athens. The Egestaenas seek help, from their alliance with Athens, for their war against Selinus; they warned of potential Syracusan domination of Sicily and aid to Sparta. • 40. Cinematic Techniques In American Beauty I utilize two scenes from the movie American Beauty, the two office scenes including Lester (Kevin Spacey) and Brad (Barry Del Sherman). The cinematic techniques are identified with mise en scene, which is the term used to portray everything put into the scene . I concentrate on decor, lighting and props, costumes, body language (e.g., posture, gestures and facial expressions) and composition. I additionally take a gander at how these components are confined as far as camera stature, camera point and camera separate, all of which fall under the class of cinematography. The scene seems right off the bat the movie. Toward the start of American Beauty, the hero, Lester Burnham is disappointed with his life. At home he and his materialistic, aspiring ... Behind Lester, there is only a diminishing plant stuck in a corner and a work of art that is too little for the divider. The stylistic layout uncovers what sort of association Lester works for, one that sucks the life and light out of its representatives. As far as sythesis, the surrounding of the shot is terrible too. Lester is situated in the middle base of the casing, which is a bizarre place to put the primary subject. There is to an extreme degree a lot of headroom above him, his feet appear to be removed, a roof light bulges down into the highest point of the casing. It is an appalling shot in a dim, revolting room; it serves as a visual appearance of Lester s discontent and unease. Here the shot is a mid shot, and Brad possesses an expansive bit of the edge. The low edge mid shot accentuates his energy, particularly when compared with the high point wide shot of Lester that we just took a gander at. At the point when Brad stands up, the low edge shot is further stressed. Outwardly, Brad is displayed as being prevailing.
