In creating a presentation it is important to have credibility so that the
audience will find that you are an authority on a topic.
You get to be an authority by learning about a topic through research. A
student learning objective for this course is to demonstrate the ability to use
search and the Internet to find excellent resources on a particular topic. A
portion of your presentation grade will depend on what you can show you
used for research on your topic and how you discuss what was learned
from the research citations.
A good presenter needs to entertain and inform the audience.
The way the presentation is crafted, how much is revealed in bullets versus
how much the author discusses, often determines how captive the
audience will be. Placing text in a slide and then reading the slide is not
entertaining to most audiences. So find a good summary for each slide,
then have the speaker notes to provide the details you plan to cover. DO
NOT READ your speaker notes!
In order to inform your audience you need to have credible information.
Reciting common topic knowledge will fail to entertain and certainly not be
informative. Try to find a twist on the topic. Find some angle of thinking
about it. For example, did an event occur that has something to do with
the topic. Why is the event important? What does it show about the topic?
As you work to build up the information for your topic, ask yourself some
questions as you do the research.
Who/what explained the topic well? What did it contribute?
Was the citation more of an introduction to the topic or detail?
What details stood out in the citation?
What did you learn from the citation?
What subtopic did I discover as a result of the search?

accurate the conclusions, a weak presentation can undermine an argument. A presentation is a tool to assist in making an argument. When creating
presentations, students develop skills in researching an issue, synthesizing the information, organizing data logically, and presenting findings in an effective
manner.
“Business intelligence (BI) is a term used by hardware and software vendors and information technology consultants to describe the infrastructure for
warehousing, integrating, reporting, and analyzing data that comes from the business environment, including big data. The foundation infrastructure collects,
stores, cleans, and makes relevant information available to managers” (Laudon & Laudon, 2014).
For this assignment, you will develop a presentation to propose a new business intelligence (BI) application for either your organization or an organization of
your choosing, or to address a real-world problem. Your presentation should be 5–7 slides in length and needs to include the following elements:

Organizational profile and/or problem statement
Description and purpose of BI solution

Principles of an Effective Presentation:
You may utilize a product such as Microsoft’s PowerPoint, Adobe Captivate, Prezi, or Google Slides to create your presentations.
There are various template designs that you can find on the web for your presentation. However, first consider your presentation from the perspective
of your audience prior to selecting a specific style. Distracting backgrounds, large blocks of text, all uppercase fonts, elaborate font styles, grammatical
errors, and misspellings are distracting. Be consistent with the style of text, bullets, and sub-points in order to support a powerful presentation that
allows your content to be the focus.
Each slide should include your key point(s). Do not place large blocks of text on the visual. Your presentation is not a means of presenting a short paper.
In an actual presentation, you would not “read” from your slides but rather use them as prompts.

portion of your presentation grade will depend on what you can show you
used for research on your topic and how you discuss what was learned
from the research citations.
A good presenter needs to entertain and inform the audience.
The way the presentation is crafted, how much is revealed in bullets versus
how much the author discusses, often determines how captive the
audience will be. Placing text in a slide and then reading the slide is not
entertaining to most audiences. So find a good summary for each slide,
then have the speaker notes to provide the details you plan to cover. DO
NOT READ your speaker notes!
In order to inform your audience you need to have credible information.
Reciting common topic knowledge will fail to entertain and certainly not be
informative. Try to find a twist on the topic. Find some angle of thinking
about it. For example, did an event occur that has something to do with
the topic. Why is the event important? What does it show about the topic?
As you work to build up the information for your topic, ask yourself some
questions as you do the research.
Who/what explained the topic well? What did it contribute?
Was the citation more of an introduction to the topic or detail?
What details stood out in the citation?
What did you learn from the citation?
What subtopic did I discover as a result of the search?

You may utilize a product such as Microsoft’s PowerPoint, Adobe Captivate, Prezi, or Google Slides to create your presentations.
There are various template designs that you can find on the web for your presentation. However, first consider your presentation from the perspective
of your audience prior to selecting a specific style. Distracting backgrounds, large blocks of text, all uppercase fonts, elaborate font styles, grammatical
errors, and misspellings are distracting. Be consistent with the style of text, bullets, and sub-points in order to support a powerful presentation that
allows your content to be the focus.
Each slide should include your key point(s). Do not place large blocks of text on the visual. Your presentation is not a means of presenting a short paper.
In an actual presentation, you would not “read” from your slides but rather use them as prompts.

- 5. Before BEFORE. The problem with the slide on the left is that the clip-art used does not reinforce the statistic, nor does it even fit the theme of women in the Japanese labor market. The background is a tired, overused PowerPoint template. The text is difficult to read. And as one trainee commented: "it's ugly." The slide on the right was an effort to display the same information in a pie chart. Besides using an overused template, the visual displays the pie chart in a distorted and inelegant fashion. For the sake of clarity, it is usually best to avoid 3-D effects. Also, rather than giving the slide a title, a declarative sentence that states the point directly may be more appropriate.
- 6. After All the slides were redesigned to match the theme above. The slide on the left was the one used for the presentations. But the one on the right could also be used effectively. Notice that either slide (especially the slide without any text) would be virtually meaningless without the presenter's narration. The handout that followed the presentation expanded on the relevance of the statistic and gave it context. The five-page handout proved to be a good reference for those who attended the presentation and for those who did not.

- 9. Slideshare Free! Slideshare is a site where you can host your presentations and share them with others. Presentations can be linked to at the site itself or else embedded in a web page. You can also synchronise an MP3 audio file (podcast) with the slideset to create a slidecast – a more powerful way of distributing presentations/tutorials. Slideshare is also a tremendous resource site of presentations.
- 10. Practise Look at the paper you brought in today What is the significance (intro slide) What is the structure (body slides) Final conclusions/next steps (end slides) Think about visuals with impact (Flickr creative commons or your own)
