A learning plateau is a flat, horizontal stretch in a learning curve that represents a stationary stage where no progress in learning is being made, even with repeated practice. Causes of a learning plateau include a complex task, loss of attention, lack of motivation, lack of previous practice, illness, fatigue, an unfavorable environment, defective teaching methods, poor physical condition, lack of maturity or interest in the learner. To eliminate a learning plateau, teachers should adopt efficient teaching methods, arrange activities by increasing difficulty, provide incentives to arouse interest, use appropriate aids, avoid fatigue by providing proper rest.
