The prestigious Y-Combinator accelerator program is known for being the launchpad for countless billion-dollar "unicorn" startups over the last decade, such as Airbnb, Dropbox, Instacart, Twitch, & many more.
A few years ago, the YC team released an (extremely) simple pitch deck template to help guide founders, based on what worked for decades of YC startups.
While not every founder can present their pitch deck in as simple terms as the likes of Airbnb & other YC stand-outs, their template is nevertheless a fantastic starting point for framing a winning investor presentation.
This adapted version of the YC Pitch Deck template was crafted for founders seeking to win funding &/or investment for their early-stage startups. Our team of experts added a professional design touch to the YC pitch deck formula, while preserving their focus on simplicity — something we have first-hand experience with, having consulted for several YC alums over the last 5+ years.

Accenture: Commercial analytics insights CPG Companies 27-7-12 Brian Crotty
A fully integrated analytics operating model can help consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies focus commercial analytics resources on high-value processes to grow market share and sustain profit margins.
Market and economic uncertainty is making it difficult for CPG companies to achieve sustainable growth. Value-driven consumers are more demanding than ever before, and retailers are increasingly pushing private labels and looking for ways to control the consumer relationship. Additionally, “big data” has left many marketing and sales organizations with an information overload, yielding little insight into how to win consumer loyalty. This uncertain environment requires CPG companies to make faster, better-informed commercial decisions and take concrete action to improve market performance.
In this point of view, Accenture outlines an approach that can help CPG companies improve their commercial analytics capability to generate significant value.

KeyedIn is a project portfolio management provider that aims to help organizations transition from spreadsheets.
Analytics in Action: Project Analytics: Visibility that Aids Risk ManagementHannah Flynn
Product Managers face changes that put delivery at risk. Just as you use data from the customer to inform your solutions, transparency during the building of those solutions is critical for making better risk mitigation decisions. Whether your solution has fixed scope, fixed scheduling, fixed resources or fixed level of quality, the earlier you can know when these are at risk (and how) the better. The more clear the picture, the better you can understand the impacts of changes, and the more effectively you can deliver the solution the customer needs, when they need it, at a reasonable cost.
This session will focus on the use of a One-Dimensional Product Backlog from a risk management point of view. We will show how this tool can be used to monitor and evaluate how your solution is getting built, and a clear view of any cascading impacts risks have as they surface.

A company called Taglab had accumulated significant technical debt over several years as their codebase and infrastructure aged. This led to problems with notifications, juggling new projects and support work, estimating tasks, and deployments. The founder took over as CTO to address these issues. His solutions included using a "canary" to reduce alert fatigue, adopting Kanban over Scrum to better handle unpredictable work, planning poker for estimation, automating deployments, and using hats to share responsibility for production issues. These approaches helped reduce problems and allowed the team to successfully complete an important last-minute project, demonstrating how they had turned the situation around.

Can you process 10 trillion logs per day software architecture conference 2015Sumo Logic
Built on AWS, Sumo Logic’s multitenant machine data analytics service has scaled to query over 10 trillion logs per day. Christian Beedgen, Sumo Logic’s cofounder and CTO, will walk you through the planning and execution of a massive SaaS architecture and key insights he had along the way.
Topics include:
- a short history of scale
how we have needed to scale incrementally by several orders of magnitude since 2010
- how to recover from being an enterprise software engineer the realization that arguing with customers about Solaris vs Linux, and RAID 6 vs RAID 10 when selling them software is a waste of time; nobody wants to know how to run your system, users want to actually use your system; how building services is a way out of the enterprise software conundrum of having to manage increasingly complex systems is dragging users down; how the cloud turns every programmer into a datacenter architect
- herding microservices
a look at Sumo Logic’s microservices architecture; why we went this way; what we had to build to manage the herd 4 years ago; what we could today take off the shelf; how any real system service architecture diagram looks like spaghetti; how we deal with this at scale in operations
- factoring and refactoring on a new level, or how everything old is new again
maybe our OO skills are still useful; programmable infrastructure is still a program; any program benefits from factoring; any program benefits from refactoring; any system should be highly cohesive and loosely coupled; guess what, this still applies, but at a +1 higher layer of abstraction
- when not to scale
scaling out is great; scaling out in light of state is a bad idea; data and locality fragmentation; fractal horizontal scaling using partitioning and affinity; how to manage this operationally at runtime; musings on copy and paste scaling
Cloud architects – if you’re looking to improve scalability and performance, this session will share successes (and failures!) applicable to your own infrastructure.

1. Gamifying Activity Logging and
Opportunity Management
Salesforce Buffalo User Group Meeting / October 9, 2012
Presented by: Tom Engelhardt, Salesforce Solution Architect, Lawley
2. Our Problem
• Inaccurate forecasts due to “messy” pipelines
– Expired Close Dates
– Lack of proper staging
• Lack of activity logging
– Who is doing what, when?
– Stewardship reporting, which should be easy, was
practically impossible
3. The BIGGER Problem?
• Nicely asking them wasn’t producing results.
• Their “praise” of the system proved to be lip service, and we
began to question whether they saw the value of the system.
• Instead of jumping on board when a data request could not be
fulfilled, some jumped to the conclusion that the system is
flawed and Salesforce isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
We needed a new strategy to convince them of
the value.
4. Our Approach
• At the end of the day, we’re talking about
good, clean data entry
• Make data entry for our worst system
adopters fun!
5. Gamification
• Hot topic in CRM adoption and ROI
• 10+ sessions at this year’s Dreamforce
– Informatica and Comcast two case studies for
gamifying sales
6. LevelEleven’s Compete
• Native app
• Point-and-click setup
• Gamify practically any system behavior using
advanced filtering capabilities
• Affordable
7. Our 2-week Pilot Program
Behaviors we wanted to motivate:
1. Clean Up the Pipeline!
a. Move the Stage of your Opportunities to
anything but “Nurture” (even Closed Lost), and
you get 50 points
b. Update the Close Date to 9/1/2012 or greater
and get 50 points
c. Log Prospect phone calls for 25 points
d. Log Prospect meetings for a big 75!
8. Activity Logging Results
• Between 1/1/2012 and 8/17/2012, these users
created a total of 1,259 activities.
– This time span represents roughly 33 weeks. 1259 / 33 =
approx. 38 activities created/week.
• In the 2-week period of the contest, they created
196.
– 196 / 2 = 98 activities created/week
• During the 2-week contest, these users created the
equivalent of 257% of the average weekly activities
created in the prior 7.5 months.
9. Close Date Update Results
• Between 1/1/2012 and 8/17/2012, the Close
Date was updated 202 times.
• During the 2-week contest, it was updated
307 times.
• This represents 152% of the Close Date
updates that occurred in the prior 7.5
months in a 2-week period.
10. Stage Update Results
• Between 1/1/2012 and 8/17/2012, Stage
updates occurred 171 times.
• During the 2-week contest, 188 updates
occurred.
• This represents 110% of the Stage updates
that occurred in the prior 7.5 months in a 2-
week period.
11. Today?
• Still a struggle, but they’re starting to get it.
– Pipelines and their use in closing gaps
– Activity reporting in the click of a button
• Never-ending process
• Use the app whenever possible to encourage
adoption.
