Preparation of cellulose micro and nanofibers from date palm leaves.
• Cellulose as an abundant biopolymer was traditionally used for clothing, construction, furniture and paper making for thousands of years. The most complex form of cellulose in nature is in the cell walls of plants. In Qatar, date palms are the largest source of cellulose. The waste from date palms (particularly the leaves) has low utilization and is usually incinerated. However, since they represent a valuable source of cellulose that can also be transformed into nanocellulose and nanocrystals, we recently initiated activities in this field.

Cellulose as an abundant biopolymer was traditionally used in clothes and furniture .the most complex form of cellulose is in the cell walls of plants. However since date palm leaves represent a valuable source of cellulose , we recently started some activities in this field.
The project is focused on the preparation of environmental friendly cellulose micro and nano-fibers by many processes from date palm waste. So that it can replace common inorganic nonreveweable fibers for material reinforcement, in medical cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, in water purification application

We are the future generations of Qatar. We are all working towards achieving qatar’s national vision 2030. And by utilizing qatar’s local raw materials (date palms) as renewable sources. Oil and Gas is not lasting forever, we should work on finding renewable sources.. and our work is a step closer in achieving this aim.
