Introduction
• Polymers are giant chain molecules made of
small repeating units called monomers.

Soil moist (polyacrylamide) is
a synthetic polymer when
placed in water can absorb
over 200 times of its
weight .
We used internet to search
about natural and synthetic
polymers and their properties,
also the meaning of the
recycling codes.

Comparing the
Viscosity of Liquids
In this activity we explore
the effect of polymer
molecular weight and
concentration on the
viscosity of polymer
solutions.
Activity 4 :
Testing the Strength of different
polymer films
In this activity we test and compare the
stretch ability and tensile strength of
polymer films having different
molecular weight.
Design project
Design project: Designing a humidity sensor
In this activity, we applied the knowledge gained
about polymers to design a humidity sensor made
from a polymer film which change colors according to
the humidity level.
Anti-microbial medical gown
Anti-microbial medical gown
Introduction and Rationale:
• Medical gowns are examples of personal protective
equipment used in health care settings.
• They are used to protect the wearer from the spread of
infections when he comes in contact with potentially
infectious liquid or solid material.
• They may also be used to help prevent the gown wearer from
contaminating vulnerable patients, such as those with
weakened immune systems.
• Gowns are one part of an infection-control strategy.
Aim of the project
• Our objective is to improve the medical gowns
and make them more resistant to microbes.
• By this we protect the healthcare staff from
infections.
• We also aim to protect the patients and
devices from contamination.
• This will be a major step in infection control
sysytem.
Anti-microbial medical gown
Hypothesis
• Our assumption is to introduce an antimicrobial polymer in
the manufacturing of medical gowns to provide extra
protection from microbes.

Methods and Materials
• We will use an antimicrobial polymer called Poly(sulfobetaine
methacrylate) which is characterized by resisting protein adsorption, cell
attachment, and bacterial adhesion.
• we will add a layer of the antimicrobial polymer in the areas with the most
contact to the patients.
Anti-microbial medical gown
Results
• Using antimicrobial polymer improved the properties
of the medical gowns and will make it more resistant
to the infectious microbes .
• This will reduce the contamination and transmission
of microbes by the gowns.

Recommendations
• Further studies & testing could be done to measure
the difference between the traditional gowns and
the antimicrobial ones.
• Different polymers could be used and compare their
abilities to decrease microbial contamination.
• To use this idea for covering the medical devices.
Conclusions
(Overall of the whole module)
• We discussed different types of polymers and
their properties.
• We proved the importance of team work.
• We did some scientific experiments.
• We managed to do a scientific research.
• We explored some university activities.

  • 10. Anti-microbial medical gown Hypothesis • Our assumption is to introduce an antimicrobial polymer in the manufacturing of medical gowns to provide extra protection from microbes.

Anti-microbial medical gown Methods and Materials • We will use an antimicrobial polymer called Poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) which is characterized by resisting protein adsorption, cell attachment, and bacterial adhesion. • we will add a layer of the antimicrobial polymer in the areas with the most contact to the patients.
  • 12. Anti-microbial medical gown Results • Using antimicrobial polymer improved the properties of the medical gowns and will make it more resistant to the infectious microbes . • This will reduce the contamination and transmission of microbes by the gowns.

Anti-microbial medical gown Recommendations • Further studies & testing could be done to measure the difference between the traditional gowns and the antimicrobial ones. • Different polymers could be used and compare their abilities to decrease microbial contamination. • To use this idea for covering the medical devices.
