Assessing the Performance of Compute Unified Device...
The academic paper at hand aimed at assessing the performance of Compute Unified
Device Architecture (CUDA) programming for machining simulation. It has three
main dimensions, introducing the machining simulation algorithm parallelization,
discussing the main constraints related to the use of the CUDA architecture
proposing different solutions to the problem of parallelization with CUDA. Authors
have argued that the main purpose of machining simulations in Computer Aided
Manufacturing (CAM) software is to detect collisions between the tool and the part
on the whole part surface of manufactured goods. Such surfaces are employed to
provide sealing or friction functions, optical or aero dynamics properties. This task
requires specific geometrical deviations to be executed within a given manufacturing
process. More specifically, reducing the cycle time of developing a product will rely
on how to simulate the evolution of geometrical deviations of surfaces throughout the
manufacturing process.
The literature reveals that there are many methods to perform machining simulations.
For instance, methods based on a partition of the space by lines, by voxels or by
planes, methods based on meshes ... etc. However, simulations of the machined
surfaces in CAM software are very limited, purely geometric and don t include any
characteristic of the actual process that may damage the surface quality during
machining. Furthermore, these simulations do not provide the required accuracy

Red Project Reflection
During my second day of volunteer service I arrived to the Red Project at 9:00am.
Upon my arrival the staff members and another nursing student from Wayne State
University were in the process of moving office furniture into another adjacent room
and this was due to the installation of new carpet. With the new process change I
helped the staff members of the organization move important confidential documents
to their other affiliated location called the Atlas building. Team members working at
the Atlas building are those who work for the Red Project Organization who work
with the Lesbian Gay Bisexual transgender (LGBT) community to raise awareness
against bullying. The first part of my morning was repetitive because it consisted of

It was interesting to learn that the young lady working for the clean works
organization was formally an intravenous drug user by which she admirably
commented on how the organization has changed her life for the better and by
volunteering her time at clean works it has given her the opportunity to help
others. While, I was in charge of running the clean works mobile unit I distributed
educational brochures, contraceptives, and other items to reduce harm and
increase client safety in the community. Taking into consideration that HIV is

who is infected, I felt very productive in knowing that I was providing valuable

issue of HIV/ STD s, the company was able to benefit from this service. At the end
of the day, I met the Theoretical Base for Practice by reaching out to the community

heightened my awareness about the disease. Knowing the prevalence of HIV and
how it is spread to others, is crucial in providing education to the
Advertisement Is The Super Bowl
An advertisement is a paid notice that tells people about a product or
service(Advertisement). One of the biggest platforms on TV for an advertisement
is the Super Bowl. It is by far the most watched TV event every year. A platform
this big cost a lot of money. Super Bowl XLVII and Super Bowl XLVIII cost on
average $4 million for only thirty seconds of airtime (Schwartz). Toyota used this
platform to introduce the all new Prius 4 during Super Bowl 50 when they
broadcasted their commercial, The Longest Chase. This ninety second commercial
cost Toyota a bunch of money, but, the company believed that it was worth the
price. This advertisement presents to us that the Hybrid group, like the Prius, are
the way to go now. And the car s power and performance are enough to turn any
drive into an event worth sharing with the entire world. This Toyota commercial
uses reasoning (logos) and emotion (pathos) to show why everyone should own
the all new Prius 4. The advertisement begins with four inept friends escaping a
bank that they had just robbed. Once they get outside the building, they soon learn
that their original getaway car had been towed. They quickly slipped past the cops
and came across a Prius. With no hesitation, they take the car and leave behind a
pile of cash for the owner. They soon realize that the Prius has enough speed and
power for them to outrun the cops. Soon enough, the scary police chase turns into a
joy ride. The friends narrowly escape the cops more than

There is very little negative space, in addition, the subject is placed near the lower

uncomfortable sense of being misplaced . Furthermore, the camera angle from a

Black Death
THE BLACK DEATH
Matthew Brown

Around 1339 in northwestern Europe, the population was beginning to outgrow
the food supply and a severe economic crisis began to take place. The winters were
extremely cold and the summers were dry. Due to this extreme weather, very low
crops yielded and those that grew were dying. Inflation became a common
occurrence and as famine broke out, people began to worry. The time period of
approximately 1339 to 1346 is now known as the famine before the plague (history).
These seven bad years of weather and famine lead to the greatest plague of all times.
In 1347, endemic to Asia, The Black Death began spreading throughout Western
Europe. Over the time of three years, the plague killed one ... Show more content on

But there were others they had forgotten...the children. They were by all means
frequent receivers of the disease and it killed them almost instantly or within a few
hours . The children in plague infested towns had premature exposures which
allowed for the disease to affect them physically and mentally. Once infected, the
parents of the children would abandon them on the streets instead because many
could not bear to watch them die (Science National Geographic). The females who
contracted the plague were especially disregarded because they could not carry on
the family name for generations to come. The children could not provide for
themselves, so they suffered greatly.
As the Church lost spiritual authority, the clergy of the Church began leaving.
About sixty percent of the clergy abandoned their Christian duties and fled. The
monasteries and the clergy suffered the greatest loss (eyewitness). Many of the
Churches finest leaders were quitting and some even moved far away to avoid the
problems they were facing. Since many head officials were parting, the Church
panicked and began aggressively recruiting others to fill the ranks. As the Monks,
Nuns, and Friars continued to disappear, the standards for their replacements
lowered. This caused the monasteries to be run by less educated people, leading to a
decline of vernacular. They knew the townspeople felt that the Church had let them
down, because any blow suffered by the Church was also a direct blow
Morte d Arthur Essay
Morte d Arthur In the Medieval Period, knights dedicated their lives to following
the code of chivalry. In Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, a number of
characters performed chivalrous acts to achieve the status of an ideal knight. Their
characteristics of respect for women and courtesy for all, helpfulness to the weak,
honor, and skill in battle made the characters King Arthur, King Pellinore, and Sir
Gryfflette examples of a what knights strove to be like in Medieval society. Because
of the examples ofchivalry, Le Morted Arthur showed what a knightdesired to be, so
he could improve theworld in which he lived. Respect for women and courtesy were
two major characteristics that knights longed to develop, and King... Show more

This was considerate behavior because even though he was angry, he was polite
and allowed them to leave safely. The warning also showed his courtesy because
he could have not told them in anticipation of their return in order to kill them
because of their disagreement. These two examples of King Arthur s respect for
the Lady of the Lake and the Roman ambassadors made him a model knight since
he was obeying the code of chivalry. In addition to being courteous, being helpful to
the weak was another aspect of chivalry portrayed through characters in the story.
First, Arthur tried to be helpful to Merlin when he was being chased by ruffians.
Arthur chased them away while riding his horse. Merlin was not in real danger
because of his magical powers, but the intent of Arthur was to help someone who
needed because he thought Merlin s powers might have failed him. Another
example of this chivalrous quality was illustrated during the battle between King
Pellinore and Sir Gryfflette. Pellinore knocked Gryfflette off his horse and, swiftly
ran over to him and loosened his armor. He then, lifted him gently onto his horse
(page 74). Sir Gryfflette was weak, and he was just knighted that day, so Pellinore
did the chivalrous action and helped him. Being helpful to the weak was a quality
that all the knights were trying to develop, and King Arthur and King Pellinore
showed this attribute in their actions with Merlin and

She learned a whole new way of life down in North Carolina. She liked how warm

Everyday Life Is Shaped By One Force
Everyday life is shaped by one force: music. Everyone listens to music every single
day of their lives and, whether they realize it or not, it shapes their lives. Music
affects people s moods and interactions. People interested in different genres will
also act differently because various genres have separate effects on people s minds.
Each genre has its own personality that it is generally related to, however not
everyone who enjoys a specific genre is the stereotypical audience, such as a
normally happy and quiet person listening to loud, angry metal music. This is
because of the how unique one organ is in each and every person: the brain.
Everyone s brain works differently and reacts to any given situation in a different
manner because of that. The brain takes all the information given to it by the
senses, sight, tough, taste, hearing, and smell, and decides how the body needs to
react to the stimuli. These reactions are sent out using the body s nervous system,
of which the brain is the center. Electrical impulses are sent through the body via
small nerves called synapses. These small cells all have a receiver and a
transmitter in order to get the message from the cell before it and share the message
with the next cell. These cells in turn tell the cells in whatever body part they are in
control of what to do or how to react to external stimuli, such as music. Music has
been around since before man began recording history. The earliest forms of music
included singing,
The Blade Of The Craft Guild
The Blade of the Craft Guild realized his mission would be much more difficult than
he expected when less than twenty steps into the Wretched Quarter a man in a torn
and dirty black robe confronted him. The Blade was covered in filth, had on a dirty
and torn yellow tunic, and should have looked like any other wretched Craft Guild
citizen returning from across the river. Yet the man made a beeline to him.
Name your guild, the man asked.
I am a Custodian. I clean the floors in the Warehouse District. The Blade couldn t
quite believe he was seeing a man in black. Maybe there was some roving gang that
liked to pretend they were the heir of Pietro or something. He dropped his hand to the
stiletto sheathed against his leg.
Where do you live?
The Blade nodded in some vague direction. Over that aways.
Which street?
The man in black was not backing down. The Blade couldn t quite figure out what
was going on, but he didn t want to raise any alarms either. Who wants to know?
The Blade hoped that moving to an aggressive approach might do the trick. The gang
member was probably used to people cowering in front of him.
To the Blade s shock, the man in black didn t even ask another question. He reached
out and grabbed the Blade by the arm. You re coming with me. The man s grip was
like iron, and the Blade was yanked nearly off his feet.
Looking around, he was surrounded by quite a few people, but not enough to stop
his escape, which was good as he had very few options. He
Comparing Beowulf And The 13th Warrior
The epic poem of Beowulf has been around since the 700 ce. It has been passed
down by story telling. The poem is a northern european myth. Majority of the action
takes place in Denmark, Geatland however, this location is now Southern Sweden.
Beowolf is a heroic myth. It is about a hero s journey. The film The 13th Warrior did
not do the poem much justice. It had things which were similar and things that were
different. The poem is written in third person and the movie in first person. Both have
similar names, in the poem the character s name is Beowulfand in the movie it is
Buliwyf. In the book there is much symbolism this is made especially with weapons.

In epic poem of Beowulf, he is called upon by Hrothgar to save the Danes from the
lineage of Cain: Grendel. Grendel, was a an ambiguous monster and he had a
mother who was an abomination. When Beowulf killed off Grendel, his mother
was very angry and sought out revenge of her son s death. Beowulf in his old age
went off to defeat a dragon, he did this to save his kingdom from fright,
unfortunately he then dies from the venom of the serpent s bite. In The 13th

his point of view. The Wendols were headed by a Mother. The actual character
Buliwyf was called upon by an old lady to defeat a race of Wendols. The Wendols
are considered to be a race of evil. The original evil was the race of Cain. Buliwyf
eventually defeats the mother without a weapon. The dragon in the movie turned out
to be a hoard of Wendols coming to attack Hrothgar`s land. In both in the epic poem
and film the epic hero prospers and conquers the old race that attempted to come
Homosexual Marriage Analysis
Maggie Gallagher argues that she is not in favor of homosexual marriage which is
relationship view, because it ruins the basic human value, procreation. Her strongest
argument according to her essay would be the continuation of society since at one
point in the world, there was a low population. In addition, as concluded by many
scientists, we could stop having children and still be able to survive with the people
and resources that we have. Since this is her main reason for the argument, she is
using Natural Law Theory for her explanation. She believes if there is another reason
to establish a marriage, it would ruin the reputation of a marriage.
Evan Wolfson seems to be in favor of homosexual marriage or for everyone to have

Human Form Of Prion Disease
Prion disease, also known as a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE),
was first seen in 1902 within a linguistic group in Papa New Guinea, called the
Fore. This human form of prion disease is called kuru and around the 1950 s, it
proved to be untreatable and always fatal to those infected by it. At its peak, kuru
reached epidemic levels as 200 new cases of kuru were reported annually during the
mid 1950 s, contributing to greatly to its death toll of 3000 people (Goldfarb,
2002). The Fore people were mostly affected by kuru and comprised 80% of kuru
deaths recorded (Goldfarb, 2002). Unlike neighboring tribes, the Fore linguistic
group of Papa New Guinea often conducted a cannibalistic feast of deceased loved
ones for the purpose of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be simply attributed to the fact that adult males seldom participated in the
cannibalizing of the dead. In addition to this, when adult males did participate in the
mortuary feasts, they often consumed the muscle tissues of the deceased and not the
brain, which is the most infectious organ when concerning kuru. Due to the loss of
susceptible genotypes and the decline of cannibalistic practices by the Fore people,
there were less incidences of Kuru and a decline in kuru mortality rate after the 1950
s. However, kuru related mortalities, although minute, did persist past this period due
to the long incubation time of kuru (mean incubation time в‰…12 years). In some
cases, patients weren t afflicted with kuru until 50 years after exposure to the
infection.
The active phase of the kuru disease can be differentiated into three main stages, each
with their own set of unique symptoms: ambulant stage, sedentary stage and terminal
stage. The entirety of the active phase of kuru occurs within 12 months. Before any
of these stages emerge, the patient experiences preliminary symptoms in the
prodromal period such as headaches and joint pain that starts at the knees and ankles
then proceeds to the elbows and wrists (Liberski et al., 2012). The brief prodromal
period precedes the ambulant stage, which is the longest stage (8 months) and ends
when the patient can
Case Study Of The Semco Group
icle is about the Semco Group, a manufacturer of industrial machinery, located in So
Paulo. The organization was founded by Antonio Curt Semler, an Austrian that
moved to Brazil to start the production of a vegetable oil centrifuge. By the year of
1980 the organization had already developed itself in such a way that it became a
supplier to major equipment for shipbuilders and by now it has a very diverse set of
products and services, ranging from air conditioning units to inventory managementto
environmental planning. When Antonio Semler s son, Ricardo Semler, had the age of
21 his father named him president of the Semco Group and from this moment on the
organization would change entirely. Ricardo did not agree with how the organization

Illinois Court Structure
They say justice is blind. Laws are made only to protect the interest of the wealthy.
Anyone can become a judge, one does not necessarily have to attend school to do
so. These are just a few myths about our judicial system, some of which that hold
some truth, and others that are inaccurate. In this paper, I will provide history about
the type of court structure in Illinois, the process in which judges and lawyers are
selected within the state, and how judges and lawyers are disciplined. To begin,
Illinois was admitted to statehood in 1818. In its original Constitution, the following
was outlined: Every person ought to find a certain remedy in the laws for all injuries
and wrongs which he may receive in his person, property, or reputation; he ought to
obtain by law right and justice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to become a lawyer in Illinois, as I aspire to be, one must first attend an
undergraduate institute to obtain a degree. Next, for formal legal study, one must
enter law school to obtain a secondary degree called the Juris Doctor. However,
before completing this, one must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) as
an entry exam to law school. The LSAT is offered four times throughout the year,
and consists of three sections which are: logical reasoning, analytical reasoning,
reading comprehension, and a writing sample. Hence, this test predicates how one
will perform in law school and often influences the school in which students are
accepted. However, upon graduation, one must pass the state bar exam. Even for
this examination, there are a few requirements under Rule 704 in the Supreme
Court Rules: the person must be of twenty one years of age, be of good moral
character to practice law, has satisfactorily completed exams on academic
qualifications an responsibility as prescribed by the Board of admissions, and attend
a school on the approved list of the American Bar
My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student
Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15
hours a week, I experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal
with. Two stressors I have dealt with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my
time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past two weeks I had a lot of assignments
due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor when I got assigned
our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already
thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekendto study
for my exam and quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my
classes are reviewing, and work. When we got assigned the extracredit paper, I
panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to fit all of it into my
schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from
panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted
managing my time before, when I first got my job this semester. Like I said, I am
taking 18 credits, so adding working 15 hours a week took away a lot of study time
that I had to figure out how to make up. It actually cuts into my social life a decent
amount, but I live with all of my closest friends and study with them, so I see them
a decent amount. What I typically do when I freak out about how much stuff I have
to do and how little time I have, I start to plan out my days by hour in my planner. I
Edgar Allan Poe s A Descent Into The Maelstrom
In Edgar Allan Poe s A Descent into the Maelstrom, the power of nature is
underestimated. Aspects of the natural world are depicted in an extreme,
otherworldly and almost unfathomable form, and serve as indicators for a journey
into a world that is within nature, but simultaneously borders on the supernatural.
Common elements of the natural world are intensified and serve as symbolic, rather
than everyday elements. Their exaggerated forms signify a break from a more
familiar, assumed understanding of nature, which man thought he could predict and
control, to a more powerful force. The protagonist in A Descent into the Maelstrom
attempts to use reasoning and science to prepare to map out nature s workings, which
proves to be unreliable as he encounters natural forces that surround supernatural
events. The end result is that a reliance on the principles of science and reason are
exchanged for a renewed understanding of the powerful role of nature and its relation
with the cosmic. Through the sailor s changed perspective after encountering the
maelstrom, the reader is able to see the relationship between the nature of the cosmos
and man s place in it. It is through the comparative theme of the cosmic versus the
small that Poe challenges the favored prevalence of scientific thinking that stemmed
from the Enlightenment. In a time where the complexities of religion and nature
were being overwhelmed by a preference for scientific explanation and thought, Poe
challenges that

Jefferson. Jefferson s professional French legislative issues and trepidation of a solid,
business concentrated government drove him to differ with the Federalists in the
legislature. Madison wedded the youthful dowager Dolley Payne Todd on September
15, 1794.
With Thomas Jefferson s decision in 1800, Madison moved from Congress to the
official branch as Secretary of State. In this office, he administered the obtaining from
France of the goliath domain known as the Louisiana Purchase, which for all intents
and purposes multiplied the span of the United States. Madison was chosen president

Sexual Harassment Papers
Sexual harassment is something that is happening daily. Trying to cope with the
emotional damage can be a lot worse than the harassment itself. It can have an affect
on your job, or personal life.
Employees who are harassed report lower levels of job satisfaction, organizational
commitment, and job performance. Employees experience higher levels of
psychological distress and physical problems than those who are not harassed.
Victims of workplace sexual harassment experience a range of ill effects, such as job
dissatisfaction and absenteeism.
Victims also exhibit nervousness, anger and irritability, low self esteem and elevated
stress.
Ignoring sexual harassment is also relatively common.
Responses appear to vary depending on the severity ... Show more content on

There are four types of support that are included in the interactive coping. One
approach recommends both pity and determined behaviors that attend to the victim s
needs, such as helping students deal with internal reactions, providing information,
and assisting as students decide what to do. A second approach indicates the use of
strategies, such as providing information or advice. A third approach supports the
rights and concerns of accused perpetrators above all others, indicating the need to
ask pointed questions to prove students who make false complaints. Women rarely
use complaint procedures to help with coping of sexual harassment. They usually try
to avoid the perpetrator or talk to a friend and react with rejection and anxiety.
Women who are sexually harassed seek help from a friend or family member. Even
though women may have difficulty coping with sexual harassment, they might find
themselves in a dangerous situation because of the lack of support they get and a
sense of separation.

Sea World Essay
Ever since Sea World opened it s gates in 1959 it has been mistreating aquatic sea
life and endangering employees. In the next few months there should be a petition
emailed to everyone who is subscribed to any wildlife protection groups encouraging
everyone to voice their concern. As of today there are a large number of citizens of
the United States and several other countries spreading the word of the awful conduct
of Sea World and their mistreatment of endangered wildlife.
I have already engaged in one of these petitions to shut down the aquatic circus for
good. Just recently in 2013 a Sea World documentary named Blackfish was released
an it told the story of an Orca whale named Tilikum killed several people while in
captivity stemming from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have often been spoon fed incorrect information about Killer Whales. They
simply regurgitation false information so long they believe it. For example, they
have been convinced that all male Killer whales have a collapsed dorsal fin, but In
fact less than 1% of male Orcas in the wild have this mutation. The collapsed dorsal
fin is caused because they have a lack of swimming space and a diet of thawed dead
fish.
Many of the Orcas held captive there die very young. The life expectancy of a captive
Killer Whale is thirty years, but out in the wild they can live up to eighty to ninety
years. The average age of deaths for Orcas at Sea World is a stunning thirteen years
old. Sea World supervisors emphasized that all Orcas die that young when questioned
about the short life expectancy of Orcas.
I propose that all captive marine animals in possession of Sea World be released to
their respective habitats immediately. The evidence of their unethical facilities are
abundant on many anti Sea World campaigns. Over the years there have been
approximately seventy incidents between captive Orcas and trainers or even Sea
World guests. All of them stock piling into a giant reason why Sea World does not

How To Write A Letter From A Professor Faden
My defendant, Professor Faden has been brought to court today by the Disney Studio.
The plaintiff claims that Mr. Faden is guilty of copyright infringement, from the

T he majority of democratic societies recognise the right to vote as an essential
human right. Despite this, there are a number of countries where leaders believe that
the disenfranchisement of prisoners, merely as a result of their imprisonment, is a
justified and prerequisite manifestation of punishment. The United Kingdom is one
these countries but the case of Hirst in 2005 has forced the UK to revaluate its
position, and has seen the debate of prisoners right to vote resurface in light of this

This creates the core notion that, regardless of the severity of the crime, a person
who is sentenced to prison does not cease to be a human being, which is heralded by
the principle that offenders are sent to prison as punishment rather than for
punishment.
Noting the compelling nature of this issue, and considering that the right to vote is
one of the hallmarks of citizenship and an established human right, there are still
thirteen countries in Europe in which prisoners cannot vote at all. A further thirteen
which only allow conditional voting and there are sixteen countries which permit
complete prisoner suffrage. Offenders in Belgium whom are sentenced to five
years or more lose the right to vote for life. On a global context, Japan and Russia
also enforce blanket bans on prisoner votingas do 48 states in America where the
states of Kentucky and Virginia impose life long bans on all citizens with a criminal
record. This makes it a difficult claim to prove that prisoners still remain citizens
upon incarceration in countries which prohibit prisoner suffrage.

Analysis Of Water By Robert Lowell
It s okay to look back on the past. Just don t stare. Benjamin Dover once said. The
quote is significant to the true meaning of the poem. Reflecting on the past may be a
good thing, but one shouldn t emerge themselves too deep. Throughout the poem,
Lowell writes with explicit detail. The speaker reflects on their past experiences
with someone whilst living in a small town in Maine. The duo would sit on a rock
and watch the sea flow onto them at times. At first itIn Water , written by the poet
Robert Lowell, the theme of reflecting on the past is illustrated through Lowell s use
of imagery.
The organization of the poem is interesting. Each line is either an incomplete sentence
or it finishes a sentence. The stanzas are each about three or four lines long which
contain some arduous words. An example is the word weir . Lowell writes, ...the sea
lapped/ the raw little match stick/ mazes of a weir (ll. 9 11). After research on it,
the word means, a fence or enclosure set in a waterway for taking fish (Merriam
Webster). This word is important to know because of the imagery it represents. The
raw little match sticks mean that it s burnt out and so is their love for eachother.
The weir is where the rock would be next to. They d see the fish being trapped. This
shows how the speaker the was fish. They were emotionally trapped in the town and
the relationship.
At first he describes the town using imagery as peaceful and put together. He says

Persuasive Essay On Athletes
Somewhere at this very moment someone is arguing and complaining about the
unfair and unequal society. One of those unfair situations is the salaries among
professional athletes and how their bank accounts are filling up with enormous
paychecks. Athletes are active workers just like others, they go to work and they
perform. What happens if they do not perform? They will get fired. So just
because athletes work with what they are meant to do does not give the right to
complain about how unfair life is. Almost everyone has the opportunity to choose
their own path, whether it is to be a professional athlete, salesman or a plumber.
Athletes choose their way of life, and just because of individual failures or
different careers the blame is put on athletes and their work. Now that is unfair
and unequal Everyone can throw a ball into a basket, kick a ball into the net, or
shoot a puck into a goal. How is it that athletes run around on a field and earn
millions of dollars, while a doctor that saves lives earn hundreds of thousands of
dollars less? That s easy, they do not have that talent. The best basketball player in

technology which perhaps has caused video games to become more and more
realistic over time. Although they often are entertaining, the contents have become
more violent and disturbing as computing technology has become much more

increase in controversy. Many parents and researchers say the video games are
now becoming too violent. The violent video games are violent and should be

there can be a connection. People are arguing that the first person shooting games are
truly promoting violence which making it more likely to become. First person
shooter games are when the player experiences the action through the eyes of the

lower levels of substance abuse. The students that didn t participate in the

Arguments concerning social media s affect on children often being with
television. Experts on the other side of the argument claim that television leaves a
negative effect on children that leads to obesity and violent behaviors. Manfred
Spitzer writes After 6 months, children in the intervention school had a lower BMI
and behaved less violently during break times... (pg. 1388). Not only are the
effects written by Spitzer possible but experts also argue that children may become
less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others. Children may be more fearful of
the world around them and they may be more likely to behave in aggressive or
harmful ways towards others. The violence exposed to children through media
doesn t cease to exist with only television. Video games are often blamed for
violence crimes in children and youth as well. Craig A. Anderson, a psychologist

factor for increased aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, and aggressive affect
and for decreased empathy and prosocial behavior. Lotte Bailyn, author of Mass

Benefits Of Payroll Outsourcing
Payroll outsourcing can save companies time and money. It allows the business to
not waste man hours handling a function that doesn t bring in any revenue. The cost
of payroll processing is greatly reduced by using a payroll service company. It
usually costs more to pay an employee to handle the payroll than it would cost to
outsource to a professional company.
Another cost savings of outsourcing is avoiding penalties and fees from the IRS and
state if a tax filing or payment is submitted late or incorrectly. In the event that an
error does occur most payroll service companies will pay the penalties and interest
that are accrued.
Payroll companies [http://www.apluspayrollservice.com] stay up to date on the

companies stay on top of the new changes to keep the business out of trouble. Payroll

Ethical Use Of Drones Essay
Drones have recently increased greatly in popularity within the last couple of years.
Previously, drones have been used in the military to launch air attacks that do not
result in fatalities to their own people. Recently, drones with cameras have become
more common and even affordable enough to be used recreationally. The uses of
drones can be very controversial and have raised different ethical and privacy issues
as their popularity has increased with both the military and recreational uses.
What exactly is a drone? According to BBC news, a drone is an unmanned aerial
vehicle (UAV). The most widespread, practical use of the drone is for military
purposes. In the United States, drones allow the military to fly into risky areas
without risking human lives and still getting the information needed and
occasionally attacking others without risking U.S. casualties. The drones can vary
in size as well as vary in features such as cameras, radar, infrared imaging, lasers, and
even weapons like missiles. There are two main types of medium sized drones the
military currently uses: the MQ 1B Predator and the MQ 9 Reaper. These styles are

Proteins control all processes within the cell. Though some proteins work
individually, most work in groups to participate in some biochemical event. Examples
of these processes include protein protein interaction networks, metabolome,
correlation/co expression values, synthetic lethality, and signal transduction (Cooper,
lecture). The study of proteins that work together can allow a greater understanding
of cellular processes. New pathways, proteins, or systems can be identified via
network analysis. In order to recognize groups of proteins that work together, a
biological network, called a graph, is formed.
The study of graphs has a prominent history in mathematics and statistics. Graph

Qualities Of A Great Leader
Leadership. There are many who find themselves in the position of leadership
within their place of work, but that doesn t always mean that they are effective as a
leader. The success of a company can rely on whether or not those in management
know how to instruct and direct others on their team. What are the true
characteristics of a great leader? Great leaders have the ability to empower others,
which will influence other people (Maxwell, 1997). Being a mentor is one very
important quality of being a successful leader. In his book Developing the Leaders
Around You (1995), John C. Maxwell states Great leaders share themselves and
what they have learned (Maxwell, 1995, p 34). These leaders help others grow in

That was over 10 years ago, and that former manager left a lasting impression
which has inspired me to come alongside others as he did for me. Another great
quality of a leader is to be a mentor. This is not a new concept, but it is new to the
company that I work for where they have now instituted a new mentorship
program. Currently, I am being mentored by an Accounting Manager whom I chose
for the following reasons. First, he has been with the company for over 25 years
and understands the business, which includes the politics of the corporation and
how to handle certain situations. Second, my knowledge of accounting is limited
and he takes time to explain the company s financials. He has been an asset in
guiding me in my professional career. Because of these managers and mentors, past
and present as mentioned above, I have developed skills to help me lead others both
personally and professionally. Leaders also have the ability to motivate others to
achieve greatness. Often, lofty goals are set that are difficult for one person to
accomplish alone. A true leader understands that they cannot take on the task alone.
Therefore they need other like minded individuals on their team in order to obtain the
goal. According to Glick Smith (2015), leaders are able to instill significance in
others because they know they cannot tackle their obstacle without help.

With the advertisement showing several different fragrances it gives it a more of a

With both beauty products advertisements targeting their audience, sex appeal
continues to grab the attention of the audience and that s what sells the product.
Advertisers have to be careful not to put too much sex appeal into their
advertisements or their message on their product will be overlooked. By using sex
appeal appropriated and not over doing it will easily benefited the manufacture. Axe
has commercials showing women who are running after men wearing Axe Body

advertisements aren t showing muscular men or sexy lingerie wearing women, but
just by their presentation layout and their worldwide brand name gives the audience a
very good idea what the manufacture is trying to sell and gets to the point consumers
are looking for.
In conclusion, we all can make the argument that Victoria s Secret is a worldwide

The Cretaceous Er The Last And Longest Segment Of The...
According to a live science, an article written by Mary Bagley, The Cretaceous
Period was the last and longest segment of the Mesozoic Era. It lasted approximately
79 million years, from the minor extinction event that closed the Jurassic Period
about 145.5 million years ago to the Cretaceous Paleogene extinction event dated at
65.5 million years ago (Mary Bagley, LS). In the cretaceousperiod, the continent of
Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know as the
seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was
responsible for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to
some who were able to live both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous
dinosaurs. This era had produced some of the dinosaurs that maybe us non
paleontologist are more familiar with like the all mighty tyrannosaurusrex or the long
neck. Well let me tell you, there were a lot more dinosaurs than just those two.
Although the tyrannosaurs rex was an enormous dinosaur, a bigger dinosaur was
discovered in 1912, the Spinosaurus. This discovery would change peoples, kids, and
paleontologists view on which dinosaur was bigger than the other. This semi aquatic
dinosaur, Spinosaurus, was much larger than the T rex due to its sail like backbones

Cert Disaster Response Paper
CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may
impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire
safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
(2016). There are ten regions for all the states. Tennessee being in region four, along
with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North and South Carolina. The goal
and priorities for CERT is to be able to assist the general public, and the first
responders with any type of disasteror hazard. Whether it be domestic, or terror.

By these members going through training, that gives me some type of relief.
Something that was spoken daily in our police academy that I find to be fitting for
this is, when you least expect it, expect it. Natural disasters are something know
really expects to happen until happens. By having these contingency plans in
place, and being able to have a group of people ready to go at a phone call should
make their communities feel better. Something that I did not think about was the
size of the communities. Bigger cities will have more first responders, but also
more area cover. What about smaller communities? The amount of first responders
will be lower, and with that comes training for some unlikely candidates.
Teenagers. High Schools now are beginning to show high schoolers what to do
during certain situations, while waiting for first responders. Once again, I find
this to be a great thing. The great thing about involving the youth is that it teaches
something that can use for the rest of their lives and continue to improve on using.
For those that decide to go to the military, become a first responder, or even a cadet
in a police department, will give them a little bit of an idea what is expected to
happen in that line of work. Being prepared always is the plus side. Which is was
CERT is for. Always ready to go, and they do so swiftly and smoothly. The
response out here for the train derailment was quick, not to mention they worked
along side the first responders, police officers, and the military. So they are always
continuing to improve and gain more and more experience. I know that for a fact
that the military has a lot to offer when it comes to training for disasters, and

The Teleological Argument For The Existence Of God
It is not uncommon for humans to find themselves with the intuition that
random, unplanned, unexplained accident just could not produce the order, beauty,
elegance, and seeming purpose that we experience in the natural world around us.
As Hume s interlocutor Cleanthes put it, we seem to see the image of mind
reflected on us from innumerable objects in nature. (Hume 1998).
This paper will prove the existence of God using the teleological argument.
There are various arguments that support teleology and the existence of God on
different grounds. The arguments to follow examine these grounds, proving
emphatically that God does exist.
Teleology is the study of a thing s purpose or design. This argument
predates Christianity; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The
reasoning is, seeing that it is more perfect to exist than not to exist, God would not
be the most perfect being to conceive unless he existed, so in truth and in fact God
does exist.
The Moral Argument
The moral argument as it relates to God s existence is to prove His existence
based on the premise of moral laws. Moral laws comes in the form of command,
thus commands are only as authoritative as the one who commands them. A
command of a ruler carries more authority than that of a citizen, this why they are
to be obeyed under all circumstances (Holt 2004). We can also refer to Genesis
chapter 1 which highlights God s varying commands. The statement Let there be
in the chapter was an indication of God s of authority as He designed the earth and
creatures thereof.
In concluding the argument for the existence of God, Allen Sandage s words
seem fitting: The world is too complicated in all its parts and interconnections to
be due to chance alone. I am convinced that the existence of life with all its order
in each of its organisms is simply too well put together. Each part of a living

Nothing beats a great guitar solo. The world s greatest guitarists are at their best
when they get to showcase talent and pour their heart and soul into the solo.
Here are ten of our favourite guitar solos.
All Along the Watchtower Jimmy Hendrix
The well deserving king of guitar solos has to be Jimmy Hendrix. The legendary
player has done some amazing tricks with the guitar and All Along the Watchtower
has a superb solo to listen to.

Free Bird Allen Collins, Gary Rossington
The Lynyrd Skynyrd classic features a stunning guitar solo by Allen Collins and
Gary Rossington. Quite surprisingly, the song is the first song the band wrote
together, despite the solo sounding like something only seasoned pros would be able
to do.
Crossroads Eric Clapton
Clapton is a massive guitar virtuoso with tons of amazing solos to pick from. But
Crossroads is definitely one of the bests, especially as the guitar solo is reportedly

Causes Of Murder Rates
This map clearly connects with the information i have gathered of the rate of
homicides in different places of Chicago. As for the places i nominated to have a
concentrated pattern, we can see that there is also a high number of gang
activities. This gives us the idea that the gang activities causing the homicides may be
because of fighting to own many large hoods. The other reason for the increase in
homicides in some places is because after the gentrification ganggroups were forced
into one place and became squashed. This caused war as to which gang shall rule the
neighbourhoods. This causes high murder rates in south and west of Chicago. The
gangs which are in the south include the BlackGangster disciples which own the

If you think about who s doing the shootings, they re spur of the moment. They are
indicative of poor affect regulation, poor impulse control. And when you look at who
does those kinds of things, it s children who were exposed to fetal alcohol.
If you go into these poor communities, you see a plethora of liquor stores. And what
s happening is that women in this case, African American women don t know they
re pregnant for the first month or two. They re engaging in social drinking causing
fetal alcohol spectrum disorders in children. And so when you fast forward 17, 18
years later, look in the juvenile detention center, three fourths of the children in those
facilities can read have something that looks like ADHD, have speech and language
disorders, have poor impulse control, have poor social judgment. That s all fetal

The other reasons i think is because of lower education esteem in those areas and
poorness, gang activities and drugs unlike other cities. As they said, violence in
Chicago goes way back,Gangster life has already ruined many things and most of the
people there say that nothing can change them. Some people say that they have
Difference Of Initial Treatment Options For Anorexia
Nervosa
Comparison of initial treatment options for anorexia nervosa Word Count: 1,619
Anna Davidson Abstract: Anorexia Nervosa is a DSM 5 psychological disorder
characterized by energy restriction, weight loss and psychological comorbidities.
The treatment of anorexia nervosa involves mainly medical and psychological
interventions, and new treatments are being researched every day. Re feeding is
known to be the cornerstone, initial treatment. However, the specifics of treatment
are not currently defined. Most therapeutic programs resort to a multidisciplinary
treatment approach based off of clinical judgment and expertise. Treatment for
anorexia nervosa is an ongoing challenge due to feeding complications and
extremely high relapse rates. Future research is necessary to establish a gold
standard initial treatment plan for anorexia nervosa and to continue finding new,
more effective treatments. Anorexia Nervosa, a DSM 5 diagnosis, is characterized
by energy restriction leading to a significantly low body weight, in addition to
psychological comorbidities involving anxiety, depression, fear of weight gain,
body image disturbances, and lack of recognition of the seriousness of the disease
and low body weight. Even though this disease has a lifetime prevalence of 1 2.3%,
with an average mortality rate of 5 10%, current research on an initial, gold standard
anorexia nervosa treatment is scarce (2 4,7). Treatment choice is currently based on
Fine Balance Essay
During the mid 1970 s in India, it was a time of democracy where people were not
treated according to the justice. The people in lower classes were being mistreated
and taken advantage of due to their lack of power to stand up for themselves.
However, people who had the power were controlling the government for their own
advantage to cover up their ruthless actions. This chaotic situation in their society is
addressed in the novel A Fine Balance, by Rohinton Mistry through the quote
Government problems games played by people in power. It doesn t affect the
ordinary people like us , which illustrates how the law is being bent in the society
and how it is breaking the balance of justice bringing misfortune to the people in
lower classes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Mistry uses the Prime minister as an example to illustrate that in their
nation, anything is possible with wealth and power. Although the prime minister is
known to be guilty of election malpractice , she used the power that she possesses to
defend herself from the crimes that she has committed (76). This illustrates that
when one has enough power and wealth, it is only a simple task to manipulate and
control the people with less power. This is similar to how she started attacking the
poor and powerless beggars and sending them to the Sterilization camp to sterilize
them, in order for her to protect India from over population. This shows how using
the power, she was able to change the laws and protect her position as the prime
minister. However, she only manipulates the laws against the poor because if she
tried to control the rich, that would ruin her reputation as people would protest
against the inhumanity that she is causing against the law. Therefore, it is clear how
the serving of justice is being imbalanced between the poor and the rich as more
poor people are being served with injustice. Furthermore, Mistry uses the Emergency
to illustrate the consequences that the poor people have to endure due to the actions
of the people in power . Om and Ishvar were victims of the
The Transformation Of The Mali Empire
There are many myths that are often told about the origins of African civilization that
make the civilization seen in a negative light; however, the empire of Mali is an
excellent example of a positive light and demonstrates how African civilization
helped influence the modern civilizations of the future. The Mali empirewas founded
by Sundiata Keita; it later became well known for the wealth of the rulers of this
empire. Thus, this empire became so great that it was a model to the rest of the
African civilizations. However, the success of the Mali empire was always
connected to how great the leader was. This stresses the importance of leadership and
ambition in order to achieve success in African civilization. During the Middle Ages,

During the beginning of fourteenth century, Mali, which means where the king
lives was one of the greatest states in the world due to its discovery of trade and
ways to achieve economic growth (Shallal 3). Mali was a very wealthy country in
salt and gold trades across the Sahara. In addition, much of Mali s wealth came as a
result of its significant mineral beyond the east. Although the process of the gold
trade was seen as the main economic source, the actual main course of the economy
was agricultural production in the rural areas (Hall 62). Therefore, Mali was much
more advanced than Ghana because Ghana did not have this agricultural
advantage (Hall 62). Agricultural production was such a great asset because the
capital of Mali, Niani, was centered in the heart of some of the most productive and
fertile land (Hall 64). Mali stretched across the southern savannah; this caused
rainfall to be adequate enough for there to be a surplus of food which allowed for
trade (Hall 64). People in different areas of the Mali empire specialized in different
crops. The main crops produced were sorghum and millet, and rice was produced
in the Gambia valley and the Niger floodplain (Hall 65). Surplus food like the
crops listed above were then traded from one district to another. However, other
crops were traded as well. Some specific examples include the trade of sorghum and
millet from the savannah to the trading town of Sahel (Hall 66). Most of this
Short Story On Minotaurbulls
Shaddrack, who had left his armor behind, and Derek entered Minos at dusk, they
walked right past one of the minotaur bulls, who gave them only a passing glance.
The bull s job was to keep people from leaving Minos, not prevent them from
entering. The streets were nearly deserted, except for patrols of human males who
Shaddrack assumed were the newly drafted enforcers. They traveled in pairs, and so
far they had looked the other way when they saw the two big men walking down the
streets as though they had every right to be there. They came to the citadel and
walked around the courtyard, it was large, very large.
Derek said, This is the place, it s the perfect setting for a battle. The minotaurs will

There was no time to argue, Derek took off towards the nearest intersection.
Shaddrack was surprised at the speed Derek was able to manage with his artificial
leg. They hit the intersection and turned right. They had just turned out of sight of
the citadel, when they heard the bull bellow from the direction they had just come
from. He sounded angry, soon the whole city was in an uproar. Men were shouting
and bulls were bellowing from every direction. They saw a group of four men
running in their direction and when they got close Derek shouted to them.
Take the street to your left, the spies just ran down it! We ll take the next street and
try to cut them off.
The men hesitated for a moment, then the one apparently in charge said, Vic, you go
with those two. The rest of you come with me.
Derek and Shaddrack turned right at the next street and Vic followed right along with
them without comment when they went the wrong way. Derek looked sideways at
him and the man gave him the thumbs up
Music s Influence On Western Music
As far as I m concerned, music has magical power, as the saying goes, music makes
a qualities of race higher and expensive, where have music, where enjoy to melt . I
think western music is the most fashionable music in the world.Even in classical
western music, it was also very modern.Western music has very long history,
experienced lots of difficulties and changes. Until now, there are still many
researchers studying western musics history. As I know, early western music mostly
were light music which didn t have lyrics. Only some folk songs have lyrics , but
they were not composed by composers, it was sang randomly by people and then it
became more and more popular. With the development of culture, music developed
fast. There appeared
some song writers, they wrote lyrics and matched light music. This form can express
people s feelings more easily and directly. So most modern western music are songs
which both have rhythm and lyrics.
1. A brief introduction about western music s characteristics.
Western has three typical characteristics. Firstly, it often refers to the origin of
Christian civilization. Secondly, composers have their own personal creation and
personal styles. Thirdly, it has scientific tradition and the pursue of science..Through
books and Internet, we can know some western musicians such as, Mozart, Bach,
Beethoven and so on, they are all very creative musicians. According to these
musicians, we can learn some western music s development. A person

Hard Times and Charles Dickens
The novel Hard Times by Charles Dickens is a fictitious glimpse into the lives of
various classes of English people that live in a town named Coketown during the
Industrial Revolution. The general culture of Coketown is one of utilitarianism. The
school there is run by a man ready to weigh and measure any parcel of human nature
. This man, known as Thomas Gradgrind, is responsible for the extermination of
anything fanciful and integration of everything pertinent and factual into the young,
pliable minds of Coketown s children. The older characters in the book, and
especially Mr. Bounderby, are examples of how years of leading a utilitarian life can
mold someone into an arrogantly bland and ignorant individual, which I think is one

Starting from the bottom to become a successful owner of multiple businesses
filled this man with pride and conceit. He definitely lived by the mantra; if I can do
it then anyone can. Which of course is false, because not everyone can be the
owner of the factory, someone has to man the machinery. Charles Dickens
obviously created this character with a purpose in mind. He wanted to portray the
greedy business owner that exploits his employees and that is oblivious to any
moral obligation that could be present in an employee/employer relationship.
Dickens wanted to show that for capitalism to work most efficiently there must be
exploitation on the part of decision makers towards employees. In this book,
capitalism is portrayed as the enemy of equality. Miss Louisa, I said I didn t know.
I thought I couldn t know whether it was a prosperous nation or not, unless I knew
who had got the money, and whether any of it was mine. But that had nothing to do
with it. It was not in the figures at all. This quote from Sissy Jupe demonstrates the
prevalent ideology in Coketown of the rationalization of exploitation as sound means
for acquiring wealth. Where I find flaw in this book, is in the character of Mr.
Bounderby. He illustrates a great contradiction. That is, that he believes everyone has
the opportunity to make themselves wealthy, but his success was made possible, or at
least

A Comparison of the Prince and the Analects
The Prince or The Analects
By Rory Steuart
Comparing the The Analects (confucious) with the Prince (Machiavelli) is something
like comparing George bush and Elizabeth May of the green party. Basically the
wrtitings of The Analects totally disagrees with the writings of The Prince. Confucius
believes people are easily improved and taught through self promotion and
development, Machaveli however sees humanity in a much different light.
Machiavelli was an innovator of realism politics and believed that people of power
should conduct themselves as tyrants. Machiavelli and Confucius are from totally
different time periods and different places in the world. Which could possibly be the

A prince has plenty to worry about during times of war and everyone is out to get
you so you must be greedy and heinous in times of war. The prince declares that the
nation state comes first before individuals. A strong prince can encounter any
enemy in war. The prince proclaims a ruler must not depend on fortifications. A
ruler who can t create a fearsome army and relies only on defense is not a strong
ruler. Machiavelli does focus a lot on the importance of having a city that is unable
to be taken by siege, but if you must be able to raise your own army to go on the
attack. Therefore a Prince must have a heavily fortified city and be able to deploy
an army of his own. Machiavelli believes that the foundation of a strong Nation
State is a strong army. According to The prince the most important part of being a
leader is studying the art of war. Staying in power is a main point in the prince and
to stay in power a Prince must conduct a strong army. The Prince proclaims not
only do you need a strong army but also you need to be in total control of that army.
Prince ought to have no other aim or thought, nor select anything else for his study,
than war and its rules and discipline; for this is the sole art that belongs to him who
rules, and it is of such force that it not only upholds those who are born princes, but it
often enables

  • 2. Assessing the Performance of Compute Unified Device... The academic paper at hand aimed at assessing the performance of Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) programming for machining simulation. It has three main dimensions, introducing the machining simulation algorithm parallelization, discussing the main constraints related to the use of the CUDA architecture proposing different solutions to the problem of parallelization with CUDA. Authors have argued that the main purpose of machining simulations in Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software is to detect collisions between the tool and the part on the whole part surface of manufactured goods. Such surfaces are employed to provide sealing or friction functions, optical or aero dynamics properties. This task requires specific geometrical deviations to be executed within a given manufacturing process. More specifically, reducing the cycle time of developing a product will rely on how to simulate the evolution of geometrical deviations of surfaces throughout the manufacturing process. The literature reveals that there are many methods to perform machining simulations. For instance, methods based on a partition of the space by lines, by voxels or by planes, methods based on meshes ... etc. However, simulations of the machined surfaces in CAM software are very limited, purely geometric and don t include any characteristic of the actual process that may damage the surface quality during machining. Furthermore, these simulations do not provide the required accuracy within a

Upon my arrival the staff members and another nursing student from Wayne State University were in the process of moving office furniture into another adjacent room and this was due to the installation of new carpet. With the new process change I helped the staff members of the organization move important confidential documents to their other affiliated location called the Atlas building. One of the biggest platforms on TV for an advertisement is the Super Bowl. It is by far the most watched TV event every year. A platform this big cost a lot of money. Super Bowl XLVII and Super Bowl XLVIII cost on average $4 million for only thirty seconds of airtime (Schwartz). Toyota used this platform to introduce the all new Prius 4 during Super Bowl 50 when they broadcasted their commercial, The Longest Chase. This ninety second commercial cost Toyota a bunch of money, but, the company believed that it was worth the price. This advertisement presents to us that the Hybrid group, like the Prius, are the way to go now. And the car s power and performance are enough to turn any drive into an event worth sharing with the entire world. This Toyota commercial uses reasoning (logos) and emotion (pathos) to show why everyone should own the all new Prius 4. The advertisement begins with four inept friends escaping a bank that they had just robbed. Once they get outside the building, they soon learn that their original getaway car had been towed. They quickly slipped past the cops and came across a Prius. With no hesitation, they take the car and leave behind a pile of cash for the owner. They soon realize that the Prius has enough speed and power for them to outrun the cops. Soon enough, the scary police chase turns into a joy ride. The friends narrowly escape the cops more than

  • 7. Black Death THE BLACK DEATH Matthew Brown P.1 April 17, y Around 1339 in northwestern Europe, the population was beginning to outgrow the food supply and a severe economic crisis began to take place. The winters were extremely cold and the summers were dry. Due to this extreme weather, very low crops yielded and those that grew were dying. Inflation became a common occurrence and as famine broke out, people began to worry. The time period of approximately 1339 to 1346 is now known as the famine before the plague (history). They were by all means frequent receivers of the disease and it killed them almost instantly or within a few hours . The children in plague infested towns had premature exposures which allowed for the disease to affect them physically and mentally. Once infected, the parents of the children would abandon them on the streets instead because many could not bear to watch them die (Science National Geographic). The females who contracted the plague were especially disregarded because they could not carry on the family name for generations to come. The children could not provide for themselves, so they suffered greatly. As the Church lost spiritual authority, the clergy of the Church began leaving. About sixty percent of the clergy abandoned their Christian duties and fled. The monasteries and the clergy suffered the greatest loss (eyewitness). Many of the Churches finest leaders were quitting and some even moved far away to avoid the problems they were facing. Since many head officials were parting, the Church panicked and began aggressively recruiting others to fill the ranks. As the Monks, Nuns, and Friars continued to disappear, the standards for their replacements lowered. This caused the monasteries to be run by less educated people, leading to a decline of vernacular. They knew the townspeople felt that the Church had let them down, because any blow suffered by the Church was also a direct blow
  • 8. Morte d Arthur Essay Morte d Arthur In the Medieval Period, knights dedicated their lives to following the code of chivalry. In Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, a number of characters performed chivalrous acts to achieve the status of an ideal knight. Their characteristics of respect for women and courtesy for all, helpfulness to the weak, honor, and skill in battle made the characters King Arthur, King Pellinore, and Sir Gryfflette examples of a what knights strove to be like in Medieval society. This was considerate behavior because even though he was angry, he was polite and allowed them to leave safely. The warning also showed his courtesy because he could have not told them in anticipation of their return in order to kill them because of their disagreement. These two examples of King Arthur s respect for the Lady of the Lake and the Roman ambassadors made him a model knight since he was obeying the code of chivalry. In addition to being courteous, being helpful to the weak was another aspect of chivalry portrayed through characters in the story. First, Arthur tried to be helpful to Merlin when he was being chased by ruffians. Arthur chased them away while riding his horse. Merlin was not in real danger because of his magical powers, but the intent of Arthur was to help someone who needed because he thought Merlin s powers might have failed him. Another example of this chivalrous quality was illustrated during the battle between King Pellinore and Sir Gryfflette. Pellinore knocked Gryfflette off his horse and, swiftly ran over to him and loosened his armor. He then, lifted him gently onto his horse (page 74). Sir Gryfflette was weak, and he was just knighted that day, so Pellinore did the chivalrous action and helped him. Being helpful to the weak was a quality that all the knights were trying to develop, and King Arthur and King Pellinore showed this attribute in their actions with Merlin and

  • 10. Everyday Life Is Shaped By One Force Everyday life is shaped by one force: music. Everyone listens to music every single day of their lives and, whether they realize it or not, it shapes their lives. Music affects people s moods and interactions. People interested in different genres will also act differently because various genres have separate effects on people s minds. Each genre has its own personality that it is generally related to, however not everyone who enjoys a specific genre is the stereotypical audience, such as a normally happy and quiet person listening to loud, angry metal music. This is because of the how unique one organ is in each and every person: the brain. Everyone s brain works differently and reacts to any given situation in a different manner because of that. The brain takes all the information given to it by the senses, sight, tough, taste, hearing, and smell, and decides how the body needs to react to the stimuli. These reactions are sent out using the body s nervous system, of which the brain is the center. Electrical impulses are sent through the body via small nerves called synapses. These small cells all have a receiver and a transmitter in order to get the message from the cell before it and share the message with the next cell. These cells in turn tell the cells in whatever body part they are in control of what to do or how to react to external stimuli, such as music. Music has been around since before man began recording history. The earliest forms of music included singing,

Yet the man made a beeline to him. Name your guild, the man asked. I am a Custodian. I clean the floors in the Warehouse District. The Blade couldn t quite believe he was seeing a man in black. In addition to this, when adult males did participate in the mortuary feasts, they often consumed the muscle tissues of the deceased and not the brain, which is the most infectious organ when concerning kuru. Due to the loss of susceptible genotypes and the decline of cannibalistic practices by the Fore people, there were less incidences of Kuru and a decline in kuru mortality rate after the 1950 s. Before any of these stages emerge, the patient experiences preliminary symptoms in the prodromal period such as headaches and joint pain that starts at the knees and ankles then proceeds to the elbows and wrists (Liberski et al., 2012). Anyone can become a judge, one does not necessarily have to attend school to do so. These are just a few myths about our judicial system, some of which that hold some truth, and others that are inaccurate. In this paper, I will provide history about the type of court structure in Illinois, the process in which judges and lawyers are selected within the state, and how judges and lawyers are disciplined. To begin, Illinois was admitted to statehood in 1818. In its original Constitution, the following was outlined: Every person ought to find a certain remedy in the laws for all injuries and wrongs which he may receive in his person, property, or reputation; he ought to obtain by law right and justice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to become a lawyer in Illinois, as I aspire to be, one must first attend an undergraduate institute to obtain a degree. Next, for formal legal study, one must enter law school to obtain a secondary degree called the Juris Doctor. However, before completing this, one must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) as an entry exam to law school. The LSAT is offered four times throughout the year, and consists of three sections which are: logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, reading comprehension, and a writing sample. Hence, this test predicates how one will perform in law school and often influences the school in which students are accepted. However, upon graduation, one must pass the state bar exam. Even for this examination, there are a few requirements under Rule 704 in the Supreme Court Rules: the person must be of twenty one years of age, be of good moral character to practice law, has satisfactorily completed exams on academic qualifications an responsibility as prescribed by the Board of admissions, and attend a school on the approved list of the American Bar

My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15 hours a week, I experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal with. Two stressors I have dealt with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past two weeks I had a lot of assignments due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor when I got assigned our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekendto study for my exam and quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my classes are reviewing, and work. When we got assigned the extracredit paper, I panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to fit all of it into my schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted managing my time before, when I first got my job this semester. • 19. Edgar Allan Poe s A Descent Into The Maelstrom In Edgar Allan Poe s A Descent into the Maelstrom, the power of nature is underestimated. Aspects of the natural world are depicted in an extreme, otherworldly and almost unfathomable form, and serve as indicators for a journey into a world that is within nature, but simultaneously borders on the supernatural. Common elements of the natural world are intensified and serve as symbolic, rather than everyday elements. Their exaggerated forms signify a break from a more familiar, assumed understanding of nature, which man thought he could predict and control, to a more powerful force. The protagonist in A Descent into the Maelstrom attempts to use reasoning and science to prepare to map out nature s workings, which proves to be unreliable as he encounters natural forces that surround supernatural events. The end result is that a reliance on the principles of science and reason are exchanged for a renewed understanding of the powerful role of nature and its relation with the cosmic. Through the sailor s changed perspective after encountering the maelstrom, the reader is able to see the relationship between the nature of the cosmos and man s place in it. It is through the comparative theme of the cosmic versus the small that Poe challenges the favored prevalence of scientific thinking that stemmed from the Enlightenment. In a time where the complexities of religion and nature were being overwhelmed by a preference for scientific explanation and thought, Poe challenges that

A third approach supports the rights and concerns of accused perpetrators above all others, indicating the need to ask pointed questions to prove students who make false complaints. The life expectancy of a captive Killer Whale is thirty years, but out in the wild they can live up to eighty to ninety years. The average age of deaths for Orcas at Sea World is a stunning thirteen years old. It lasted approximately 79 million years, from the minor extinction event that closed the Jurassic Period about 145.5 million years ago to the Cretaceous Paleogene extinction event dated at 65.5 million years ago (Mary Bagley, LS). In the cretaceousperiod, the continent of Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know as the seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was responsible for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to some who were able to live both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous dinosaurs. This era had produced some of the dinosaurs that maybe us non paleontologist are more familiar with like the all mighty tyrannosaurusrex or the long neck. Well let me tell you, there were a lot more dinosaurs than just those two. Although the tyrannosaurs rex was an enormous dinosaur, a bigger dinosaur was discovered in 1912, the Spinosaurus. This discovery would change peoples, kids, and paleontologists view on which dinosaur was bigger than the other. This semi aquatic dinosaur, Spinosaurus, was much larger than the T rex due to its sail like backbones that stuck out of its back. Furthermore, spinosaurus had a huge advantage that the tyrannosaurus rex did not. A Paleontologists job is to study their dinosaur discovery, and to tell us

Something that was spoken daily in our police academy that I find to be fitting for this is, when you least expect it, expect it. Natural disasters are something know really expects to happen until happens. By having these contingency plans in place, and being able to have a group of people ready to go at a phone call should make their communities feel better. Something that I did not think about was the size of the communities. Bigger cities will have more first responders, but also more area cover. What about smaller communities? The amount of first responders will be lower, and with that comes training for some unlikely candidates. Teenagers. High Schools now are beginning to show high schoolers what to do during certain situations, while waiting for first responders. Once again, I find this to be a great thing. The great thing about involving the youth is that it teaches something that can use for the rest of their lives and continue to improve on using. For those that decide to go to the military, become a first responder, or even a cadet in a police department, will give them a little bit of an idea what is expected to happen in that line of work. Being prepared always is the plus side. Which is was CERT is for. Always ready to go, and they do so swiftly and smoothly. The response out here for the train derailment was quick, not to mention they worked along side the first responders, police officers, and the military. So they are always continuing to improve and gain more and more experience. I know that for a fact that the military has a lot to offer when it comes to training for disasters, and hazardous

The Teleological Argument For The Existence Of God It is not uncommon for humans to find themselves with the intuition that random, unplanned, unexplained accident just could not produce the order, beauty, elegance, and seeming purpose that we experience in the natural world around us. As Hume s interlocutor Cleanthes put it, we seem to see the image of mind reflected on us from innumerable objects in nature. (Hume 1998). This paper will prove the existence of God using the teleological argument. There are various arguments that support teleology and the existence of God on different grounds. The arguments to follow examine these grounds, proving emphatically that God does exist. Teleology is the study of a thing s purpose or design. This argument predates Christianity; ... The reasoning is, seeing that it is more perfect to exist than not to exist, God would not be the most perfect being to conceive unless he existed, so in truth and in fact God does exist. The Moral Argument The moral argument as it relates to God s existence is to prove His existence based on the premise of moral laws. Moral laws comes in the form of command, thus commands are only as authoritative as the one who commands them. A command of a ruler carries more authority than that of a citizen, this why they are to be obeyed under all circumstances (Holt 2004). We can also refer to Genesis chapter 1 which highlights God s varying commands. The statement Let there be in the chapter was an indication of God s of authority as He designed the earth and

The people in lower classes were being mistreated and taken advantage of due to their lack of power to stand up for themselves. However, people who had the power were controlling the government for their own advantage to cover up their ruthless actions. This chaotic situation in their society is addressed in the novel A Fine Balance, by Rohinton Mistry through the quote Government problems games played by people in power. It doesn t affect the ordinary people like us , which illustrates how the law is being bent in the society and how it is breaking the balance of justice bringing misfortune to the people in lower classes.... Although the prime minister is known to be guilty of election malpractice , she used the power that she possesses to defend herself from the crimes that she has committed (76). This illustrates that when one has enough power and wealth, it is only a simple task to manipulate and control the people with less power. This is similar to how she started attacking the poor and powerless beggars and sending them to the Sterilization camp to sterilize them, in order for her to protect India from over population. This shows how using the power, she was able to change the laws and protect her position as the prime minister. However, she only manipulates the laws against the poor because if she tried to control the rich, that would ruin her reputation as people would protest against the inhumanity that she is causing against the law. Therefore, it is clear how the serving of justice is being imbalanced between the poor and the rich as more poor people are being served with injustice. Furthermore, Mistry uses the Emergency to illustrate the consequences that the poor people have to endure due to the actions of the people in power . Om and Ishvar were victims of the

During the beginning of fourteenth century, Mali, which means where the king lives was one of the greatest states in the world due to its discovery of trade and ways to achieve economic growth (Shallal 3). Mali was a very wealthy country in salt and gold trades across the Sahara. In addition, much of Mali s wealth came as a result of its significant mineral beyond the east. Although the process of the gold trade was seen as the main economic source, the actual main course of the economy was agricultural production in the rural areas (Hall 62). Therefore, Mali was much more advanced than Ghana because Ghana did not have this agricultural advantage (Hall 62). Agricultural production was such a great asset because the capital of Mali, Niani, was centered in the heart of some of the most productive and fertile land (Hall 64). Mali stretched across the southern savannah; this caused rainfall to be adequate enough for there to be a surplus of food which allowed for trade (Hall 64). People in different areas of the Mali empire specialized in different crops. The main crops produced were sorghum and millet, and rice was produced in the Gambia valley and the Niger floodplain (Hall 65). Surplus food like the crops listed above were then traded from one district to another. However, other crops were traded as well. Some specific examples include the trade of sorghum and millet from the savannah to the trading town of Sahel (Hall 66). Most of this

The general culture of Coketown is one of utilitarianism. The school there is run by a man ready to weigh and measure any parcel of human nature . This man, known as Thomas Gradgrind, is responsible for the extermination of anything fanciful and integration of everything pertinent and factual into the young, pliable minds of Coketown s children. He definitely lived by the mantra; if I can do it then anyone can. Which of course is false, because not everyone can be the owner of the factory, someone has to man the machinery. Charles Dickens obviously created this character with a purpose in mind. He wanted to portray the greedy business owner that exploits his employees and that is oblivious to any moral obligation that could be present in an employee/employer relationship. Dickens wanted to show that for capitalism to work most efficiently there must be exploitation on the part of decision makers towards employees. In this book, capitalism is portrayed as the enemy of equality. Miss Louisa, I said I didn t know. I thought I couldn t know whether it was a prosperous nation or not, unless I knew who had got the money, and whether any of it was mine. But that had nothing to do with it. It was not in the figures at all. This quote from Sissy Jupe demonstrates the prevalent ideology in Coketown of the rationalization of exploitation as sound means for acquiring wealth. Where I find flaw in this book, is in the character of Mr. Bounderby. He illustrates a great contradiction. That is, that he believes everyone has the opportunity to make themselves wealthy, but his success was made possible, or at least
