This document discusses the role of buses in achieving the UITP's goal of doubling the market share of public transportation by 2025. It recommends that cities prioritize public transportation over private vehicles by dedicating more road space to buses. Ensuring stable funding, rationalizing bus routes, and converting some bus lanes to BRT systems can help improve bus performance. Private sector involvement through PPPs and competitive tendering can attract new passengers if regulations ensure service quality. Fares must adjust to changing conditions, and social policies should not burden public transit operators. Environmentally friendly technologies and effective use of monitoring technologies can also make buses more attractive.
