This document discusses how changes in the Arctic are affecting weather patterns in New England through impacts on the jet stream. Polar amplification, where the Arctic is warming faster than other regions, is causing sea ice and snow cover loss. This decrease in the temperature gradient between the Equator and Pole is weakening the jet stream and making it more prone to north-south movements. As a result, winters in New England are expected to be warmer and wetter overall with more extreme and longer-lasting weather events.
