ISO 9000 certification(Quality Management System)Varshid Patel
The ISO 9000 family of international quality management standards and guidelines has earned a global reputation as a basis for establishing effective and efficient quality management systems. The need for International Standards is very important as more organizations operate in the global economy by selling or buying products and services from sources outside their domestic market.
Over the last few years, the ISO-9000 has become the most popular quality standard in the food industry and Pharma industry, with practically all major companies rushing to get ISO-9000-certified. In fact, companies not ISO certified would find it difficult to do business, given that certification is a basic requirement of would-be customers. The ISO-9000 series of standards was developed by the International Organization for Standardization.
ISO 9001:2015 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to (although this is not a requirement). It can be used by any organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact, there are over one million companies and organizations in over 170 countries certified to ISO 9001.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

From the start of the project to the initial
certification audit typically takes 6 months.
The time taken depends on the resources
committed to the project and the size and
complexity of the organisation, and it can be
as fast as 4 months.
“Instant Certification” is not possible due the
requirement for records that demonstrate use
of the quality system.
After the initial certification, the external
auditor will usually revisit after 6 months for a
surveillance audit. Thereafter, external audits
are conducted at least every 12 months, and
sometimes every 6 months – depending on
the business. After 3 years, a major re-
certification audit takes place to renew
the ISO 9001 certificate.
An internal audit is often scheduled 2-3
months prior to each external audit. This gives
you a chance to correct any problems prior to

10. WHY WAS ISO 9001 REVISED?
• All ISO standards are reviewed and revised regularly to make sure they remain relevant
to the marketplace.
• ISO 9001 has been updated to take into account the different challenges that businesses
now face.
• For example, increased globalization has changed the way we do business and
organizations often operate more complex supply chains, and there are increased
expectations from customers.
• ISO 9001 needs to reflect these changes in order to remain relevant.
12. BENEFITS FROM NEW VERSION
The new version of the standard brings the user a number of benefits.
ISO 9001:2015:
• Puts greater emphasis on leadership engagement
• Helps address organizational risks and opportunities in a structured manner
• Uses simplified language and a common structure and terms, particularly helpful to
organizations using multiple management systems
• Addresses supply chain management more effectively
• Is more user-friendly for service and knowledge-based organizations
13. KEY IMPROVEMENTS
Structure
• ISO 9001:2015 now follows the same overall structure as other ISO management
system standards (High-Level Structure), making it easier for anyone using multiple
management systems.
Focus on risk-based thinking
• This has always been part of the standard, but the new version gives it increased
prominence.
14. ISO 9001:2015 -- REQUIREMENTS
• ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system
when an organization:
a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and
services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory
requirements, and
b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application
of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the
assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and
regulatory requirements.
• All the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to be
applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products
and services it provides.
15. CERTIFICATION OF ISO 9001
• With the right preparation and a good understanding of what is required for ISO
9001certification, most organisations can expect to achieve certification within 3 to 6
months depending on their size and complexity.
• At this stage it is vital to have someone (internal or external) who has experience of
implementing Quality Management Systems and who knows what is needed to achieve ISO
9001 certification.
• Once the groundwork has been done and the ISO 9001 Quality Manual has been
completed, you will be ready for your Stage 1 Audit.
• The assessor/auditor will check that your written Quality Management Systems meet the
requirements of the ISO 9001 Standard and match what you are actually doing and
highlight any areas of deficiency and potential improvement of the system.
• Once any required changes have been made, your organisation will then be ready for your
Stage 2 Certification Assessment. The assessor/auditor will check that you are working to
the requirements of Quality Management Systems and the ISO 9001 Standard. This may be
conducted by an independent 3rd party, UKAS Accredited Certification Body.
• ACS Registrars Ltd are a UKAS Accredited Certification Body.
16. The documentation will define:
• Organisation structure
• Who should record information and what information is recorded
• Responsibilities of employees
• Lines of communication throughout the company
• What actions are required
• How continuity will be maintained as staff change

Note for data in 2017: Decrease
of overall number of certificates
compared to 2016 due to a
reduction in the number of
certificates reported by some
data providers that changed
their way of reporting their data.
The decrease can be seen for
several countries and is
significant for Italy and
Germany.
